Look at the following paragraph: (pay attention to the words underlined) My hometown and my college town have several things in common. First, both are small rural communities. For example, my hometown, Gridlock, has a population of only about 10,000 people. Similarly, my college town, Subnormal, consists of about 11,000 local residents. This population swells to 15,000 people when the college students are attending classes. A second way in which these two towns are similar is that they are both located in rural areas. Gridlock is surrounded by many acres of farmland which is devoted mainly to growing corn and soybeans. In the same way, Subnormal lies in the center of farmland which is used to raise hogs and cattle . . . . This is a comparison paragraph. It is organized by similar points

The Daffodils
William Wordsworth

The Daffodils
I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o‘er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the Milky Way, They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay: Ten thousand saw I at a glance, Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The Daffodils
The waves beside them danced; but they Outdid the sparkling waves in glee: A poet could not but be gay, In such a jocund company: I gazed - and gazed - but little thought What wealth the show to me had brought: For it, when on my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood, They flash upon that inward eye Which is the bliss of solitude; And then my heart with pleasure fills, And dances with the daffodils.

The cloud wandered, the waves danced,但其重点还是放在水仙花上。他把它们写成“a crowd”,“a host”,“a company”,“They dance and toss their heads”,它们还会表达欢乐愉快(“glee”,“jocund”) 的心情呢! 他告诉我们当他处于空 虚黯然的心情(in vacant or pensive mood),这一簇簇美丽的水 仙花就会出现在他的回忆中(flash upon that inward eye),诗歌 中的“inward eye”就是指他的回忆。

The speaker is wandering as if among the clouds, viewing a belt of daffodils, next to a lake whose beauty is overshadowed. Personification is used within the poem, particularly with regards to the flowers themselves, and the whole passage consists of images appearing within the mind of the poet.
