Uncle Tom's Cabin: A SummaryUncle Tom's Cabin is a renowned novel written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Published in 1852, the book is known for its profound influence on the abolitionist movement in the United States. In this article, we will explore the main themes and significant events of Uncle Tom's Cabin.Set in the early to mid-19th century, the story revolves around the lives of various characters, ultimately revealing the harsh realities of slavery. The central character, Tom, is a kind-hearted and devout slave who serves on the Shelby plantation. Shelby, Tom's owner, is forced to sell him due to financial troubles, leading Tom to be purchased by the cruel Simon Legree.Throughout the novel, Stowe intertwines the lives and experiences of several characters to expose the inhumanity and brutality of the institution of slavery. One of the key elements of the narrative is the stark contrast between the virtuous and compassionate slaves, such as Tom, and the merciless and abusive slave owners, such as Legree.Stowe also presents various subplots that shed light on other disturbing aspects of slavery. One such subplot involves Eliza, a young slave who escapes with her son after learning that he is to be sold. Eliza's journey to freedom, crossing the treacherous Ohio River, highlights the desperation and determination of slaves seeking liberty.Another significant subplot revolves around the characters of George Harris and his wife, Eliza's future husband. George, who is intelligent and skilled, manages to escape from his owner and reunites with his family inCanada. Their story emphasizes the importance of education and personal growth in the fight against oppression. In addition to these individual narratives, Stowe weaves in historical events and documents, further strengthening her arguments against slavery. For instance, she references the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, which allowed slave owners to reclaim escaped slaves in free states. This inclusion serves to inform readers of the legal framework that perpetuated the injustices faced by slaves. In Uncle Tom's Cabin, Stowe contrasts the beliefs and actions of various religious characters to highlight the hypocrisy of those who support slavery. She challenges the notion that Christianity can coexist with the ownership and mistreatment of fellow human beings. Through characters like Tom, who maintains his faith despite his circumstances, Stowe underscores the resilience and strength of those oppressed by slavery. The novel concludes with Tom's death, a powerful and heartbreaking moment. Tom's unwavering faith in God and his forgiveness towards his oppressors leave a lasting impact on the readers, inspiring them to question and challenge the deeply ingrained prejudices of their society.Uncle Tom's Cabin played a significant role in shaping public opinion about slavery. It raised awareness of the grim realities faced by enslaved individuals, inciting both empathy and outrage among its readers. The novel's immense popularity sparked widespread debate and contributed to the movement towards abolition. In conclusion, Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe vividly portrays the experiences of slaves and the evils of slavery in the UnitedStates. Through its well-developed characters and thought-provoking narrative, the novel continues to be a poignant reminder of the importance of equality and justice for all.。

Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Told to the Children)ByHarriet Beecher StoweH. E. Marshall ed.Chapter 1Uncle Tom and Little Harry are SoldVery many years ago, instead of having servants to wait upon them and work for them, people used to have slaves. These slaves were paid no wages. Their masters gave them only food and clothes in return for their work. When any one wanted servants he went to market to buy them, just as nowadays we buy horses and cows, or even tables and chairs. If the poor slaves were bought by kind people they would be quite happy. Then they would work willingly for their masters and mistresses, and even love them. But very often cruel people bought slaves. These cruel people used to beat them and be unkind to them in many other ways.It was very wicked to buy and sell human beings as if they were cattle. Yet Christian people did it, and many who were good and kind otherwise thought there was no wrong in being cruel to their poor slaves. 'They are only black people,' they said to themselves. 'Black people do not feel things as we do.' That was not kind, as black people suffer pain just in the same way as white people do.One of the saddest things for the poor slaves was that they could never long be a happy family all together—father, mother, and little brothers and sisters—because at any time the master might sell the father or the mother or one of the children to some one else. When this happened those who were left behind were very sad indeed—more sad than if their dear one had died.Uncle Tom was a slave. He was a very faithful and honest servant, and his master, Mr. Shelby, was kind to him. Uncle Tom's wife was called Aunt Chloe. She was Mr. Shelby's head cook, and a very good one too she was. Nobody in all the country round could make such delicious pies and cakes as Aunt Chloe.Uncle Tom and Aunt Chloe lived together in a pretty little cottage built of wood, quite close to Mr. Shelby's big house. The little cottage was covered with climbing roses, and the garden was full of beautiful bright flowers and lovely fruit trees.Uncle Tom and Aunt Chloe lived happily for many years in their little cottage, or cabin, as it was called. All day Uncle Tom used to work in the fields, while Aunt Chloe was busy in the kitchen at Mr. Shelby's house. When evening came they both went home to their cottage and their children, and were merry together.Mr. Shelby was a good man, and kind to his slaves, but he was not very careful of his money. When he had spent all he had, he did not know what to do to get more. At last he borrowed money from a man called Haley, hoping to be able to pay it back again some day.But that day never came. Haley grew impatient, and said, 'If you don't pay what you owe me, I will take your house and lands, and sell them to pay myself back all the money I have lent to you.'So Mr. Shelby sold everything he could spare and gathered money together in every way he could think of, but still there was not enough. Then Haley said, 'Give me that slave of yours called Tom—he is worth a lot of money.'But Mr. Shelby knew that Haley was not a nice man. He knew he did not want Tom for a servant, but only wanted to sell him again, to make more money. So Mr. Shelby said, 'No, I can't do that. I never mean to sell any of my slaves, least of all Tom. He has been with me since he was a little boy.''Oh very well,' said Haley, 'I shall sell your house and lands, as I said I should.'Mr. Shelby could not bear to think of that, so he agreed to let Haley have Tom. He made him promise, however, not to sell Tom again except to a kind master.'Very well,' said Haley, 'but Tom isn't enough. I must have another slave.'Just at this moment a little boy came dancing into the room where Mr. Shelby and Haley were talking. He was a pretty, merry little fellow, the son of a slave called Eliza, who was Mrs. Shelby's maid.'There now,' said Haley, 'give me that little chap, as well as Tom, and we will say no more about the money you owe me.''I can't,' said Mr. Shelby. 'My wife is very fond of Eliza, and would never hear of having Harry sold.''Oh, very well,' said Haley once more, 'I must just sell your house.'So again Mr. Shelby gave in, and Haley went away with the promise that next morning Uncle Tom and little Harry should be given to him, to be his slaves.Below is given annual work summary, do not need friends can download after editor deleted Welcome to visit againXXXX annual work summaryDear every leader, colleagues:Look back end of XXXX, XXXX years of work, have the joy of success in your work, have a collaboration with colleagues, working hard, also have disappointed when encountered difficulties and setbacks. Uncle Tom's Cabin.(汤姆叔叔的小屋)
Uncle Tom's Cabin.Introduction of the authorHarriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896), American writer and philanthropist, best-known for the anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom's Cabin (1851-52). The book was quickly translated into 37 languages and it sold in five years over half a million copies in the United States.Harriet Beecher Stowe was born on June 14, 1811, in Litchfield, Connecticut, and brought up with puritanical strictness. She had one sister and six brothers. Her father, Lyman Beecher, was a controversial Calvinist preacher. Stowe's mother died when she was four. When she was eleven years old, she entered the seminary at Hartford, Connecticut, kept by her elder sister. Four years later she was employed as assistant teacher. In 1834 Stowe began her literary career when she won a prize contest of the Western Monthly Magazine, and soon she was a regular contributor of stories and essays. Her first book, The Mayflower, appeared in 1843.In 1836 Stowe married Calvin E. Stowe, a professor at her father's theological seminary. The early years of their marriage were marked by poverty. Over the next 14 years Stowe had 7 children. In 1850 Calvin Stowe was offered a professorship at Bowdoin, and they moved to Brunswick, Maine. In Cincinnati Stowe had come in contact with fugitive slaves. She learned about life in the South from her own visits there and saw how cruel slavery was. These experiences led Stowe to compose her famous novel, which was first published in the anti-slavery newspaper The National Era and later in book form.Stowe started to publish her writings in The Atlantic Monthly and later in the Independent and in Christian Union. In 1853, 1856, and 1859 Stowe made journeys to Europe and became friends with George Eliot, Elisabeth Barrett Browning, and Lady Byron. However, British public opinion turned against her when she charged Lord Byron with incestuous relations with his half-sister in Lady Byron Vindicated (1870).Attacks on the veracity of her portrayal of the South led Stowe to publish The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin (1853), in which she presented her source material. A second anti-slavery novel A Tale of the Great Dismal Swamp (1856), told the story of a dramatic attempt at slave rebellion. Stowe's later works did not gain the same popularity as Uncle Tom's Cabin. She published novels, studies of social life, essays, and a small volume of religious poems. Pearl of Orr's Island (1862), Old-Town Folks (1869) and her last novel Poganuc People (1878) were partly based on her husband's childhood reminiscences and are among the first examples of local color writing in New England.Stowe's mental faculties failed in 1888, two years after the death of her husband. When the secondary theme of Harriet Beecher Stowe to write her text - such as the mother's moral authority, and the possibility of rescue by the Christian - she will emphasize the link between these topics and the horrors of slavery. Almost every page of the novel, Stowe actively promote the theme of "slavery immoral", sometimes she will even change the tone of the story describes, to the destruction of slavery to the people "sermon" nature (For example, in ships to the southern states carrying Tom, a white woman said: "slavery is the most scary is trampling on the feelings and affection - for example, break up other people's flesh.") by the black the slave system dismantled and characterization of the families of others, the Stowe words to show the evils of slavery. This is the Uncle Tom’s Cabin Stowe that motherhood is a” model of morality and ethics in all of American life, “and believes that only women have the moral authority to rescue from the hands of the demon of slavery; in the expression of another theme: the moral strength of women and holiness. In the book, examples of such roles Eliza - A runaway nigger with her son (and eventually reunited with their family), or small Eva - she is regarded as an "ideal Christ Acts "; it is through this role, Stowe shows that this view: women are able to save the people around them, even if it is the most moral people. But later comments also mentioned Stowe described the role of women in general to the old-fashioned image of the housewife, but not the reality of women. In addition, Stowe's novel, "reiterated the importance of the women played, and the feminist movement in the subsequent decades the road paved to make a contribution.Stowe novel, Puritan religious disclose all an extension of the theme she explored Christianity and Christian theology and the nature of the slavery irreconcilable contradictions. When Eva's death, Tom begged her St. Clair's love "to see Jesus come back; Tom's death, George Shelby," a Christian is more than good "to praise him; this topic has been a definite highlight of Tom uncle.”part of, the Christian account of the themes in the novel Stowe and religious sentiment are issued frequently, this novel is also often used to" preach the form of books. "This book describes the many different forms, the different character of slaves, and also the variety of the slaveholders face. Efforts description, portray slaveholders instilled Christian spirit, submissive type slave Tom shaped reluctant to allow slaveholders decision the rebel slaves such as Eliza and her husband. Slave, Tom, andEliza and her husband the book are two completely different character, to tell readers: submissive and slave owners at the mercy of the slaves, can not escape the fate of death, he served as listening, only the courage to resist the fate of the courage to struggle and the fate of the slaves, before they get a new life.ConclusionThis book tells the reader two different personalities, Tom and George Harris and his wife: submissive, to obey the slave owners at the mercy of Tom can not escape the fate of death; the courage to resist courage to fight George couple is reborn.
Uncle Tom s cabin is the American writer Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a reflection of slavery of the giant, is a great anti slavery declaration. It set off the climax of the American abolition movement, and had a profound impact on the people of the world against racial discrimination and freedom and democracy. This novel mainly tells the slave owner Hilby to repay the debt, decided to sell loyal Tom and harry. Allie is not a check, at the mercy of the hell-bent to be docile and obedient slaves, when she happened to know to sell the news of his son, Harry overnight with a successful escape. Submissive and obedient to the master he is another kind of experience. He was willing to be sold to slave traders by his owners. After being self saved by the girl s father Mr. San Claire bought, when their father died, Tom was finally cruel Marie San Claire sold to slave Legre a murderous there was severely killed with a whip.At the end of nineteenth Century, the United States there is a devastating dignity of the slave system, this system is the backward area of black Africa, and forced to the new world, when the sale of livestock, suffered the sale of slaves began their life. After the slave of career. Uncle Tom s cabin is a tragic story that happened duringthat period. After reading this story, I feel sympathy for the poor uncle Tom, sympathy for his poor identity, sympathy for his miserable fate; I hate cruel slave and a slave merchant, hate their brutal fierce and hated them indifferent; I also feel this kind of injustice of slavery, is the system the dark is uneven, uneven system is not equal; but I felt great admiration for president Lincoln, admire his determination to abolish slavery, abolition of slavery to admire his real action. When I saw Legree ordered Tom to say two escaped slave whereabouts, uncle Tom would rather die than say, heavy whip mercilessly fell upon Tom, was finally beaten to death, I could not help heart startled, excited, I move for uncle Tom s upright! My master legrip brutal anger! I feel indignant for the oppressed slave! But those who do bad things, sucked dry meat slaves blood slaves slaves and even more outrageous. In the slave society at that time, black people belonged to the lowest class. They were not free, abused, beaten, bought and sold at will. The good uncle Tom helped so many people, but finally he was tortured to death. If he dared to run away like Ellie, he might not have that tragic fate. Therefore, I think that my life should be themselves, can not be submissive, listening at the mercy of others. In this book, the person I admire most is Eva, Eva is not only a beautiful angel face, pure heart, can share everything, treat everyone equally, regardless of is the humble people, if they have difficulties or need help, she will do whatever they can to to help them. However, her own fate can not be changed - she has a selfish mother, she never felt the selfless and great maternal love, but she still love her mother, because she was born with a lover s heart. Although her life was not happy, she thought she had at least one home and had a shelter. Although she was tortured by pain all the time, although she could only survive the last moment of her life, she felt love. Her kind heart made her free at the last moment of her life.Uncle Tom s cabin after reading this book, I understand that behind the polite capitalism, is ruthless exploitation of slaves and qiaoguxisui; on the day of the American prosperity, is tightly contact and evil of slavery together. But so far, there are still some Americans who discriminate against blacks. How to expect every country in the world to protect the weak, so that people do not hunger, cold, no bullying oppression, how to expect every corner of the world can be equal, no hierarchical concept, I hope this kind of crime and discrimination will always disappear in this beautiful earth!。

英文短剧剧本--Three visits to the cottage(三顾茅庐)
Three visits to the cottage(中文名三顾茅庐)Three visits to the cottage(中文名三顾茅庐)is a story from one of the Four Great classical Chinese novels——the Three Kindoms. ZhuGeliang is one of the main characters in the original. Also, he is an outstanding militarist(军事家), politician and the symbol of the wisdom(智慧)in Chinese history. Finally, ZhuGeliang was moved by sincerity, helped the three brothers——Liubei, Guanyu and Zhangfei to establish the Shu Kindom. He devoted his whole life to the cause and died in harness. In this play, we add many modern and funny elements. For example, there are some spoken lines and actions which were copied from some classical movies like Infernal Affairs(中文名无间道), My Own Swordsman(中文名武林外传),The Flirting Scholar(中文名唐伯虎点秋香)were combined in our play.
Tom lay in the shed for three days. A stranger came to the Legree ’ s farm. The stranger was a young white man. He was Johnny Shelby. He resolved to find out and re-purchase his old friend.
(约翰尼·谢尔比在客厅里与勒格雷会面,勒格雷态度十分傲慢无礼)Johnny Shelby: I understand, that you bought, in New Orleans, a boy, named Tom. He used to be on my father’s place, and I came to see if I couldn’t buy him back.”“据我了解,你在新奥尔良买了一个名叫汤姆的黑奴,他从前是我父亲家的奴隶,我来看看是不是能把他买回去。
”Legree(very angry): Yes, I did buy such a fellow,The most rebellious, saucy, impudent dog!Set up my niggers to run away!when I bid him tell me where they was, he up and said he knew, but he wouldn’t tell; I gave him the cussedest flogg ing I ever gave nigger yet. I be lieve he’s trying to die; but I don’t know as he’l l make it out.
Johnny Shelby(impetuously):Where is he?Let me see him.“他在哪儿?”
”little fellow : He’s in the shed“在那边棚子里。
.Legree : Out ! Shit!(kicked the boy, and swore at him)勒格雷踢了孩子一脚,咒骂着他。
Tom had been lying two days since the fatal night, not suffering, for every nerve of suffering was blunted and destroyed. He lay, for the most part, in a quiet stupor; for the laws of a powerful and well-knit frame would not at once release the imprisoned spirit.
Johnny Shelby(painfully):Is it possible, is it possible?Uncle Tom, my poor, poor old friend! 汤姆叔叔,我那可怜的、苦命的老朋友!”Johnny Shelby(painfully): O, dear Uncle Tom! do wake,—do speak once more! Look up! Here’s Johnny,—your own little Johnny. Don’t you know me?“啊,亲爱的汤姆叔叔,请你醒醒吧!再说一句话吧!看呀,约翰尼少爷来了,你心爱的小约翰尼少爷呀!你认不出我了吗?”Uncle Tom (speaking in a feeble voice): Master Johnny , what a fine young man y ou’ve grown to be! Praise the Lor d. now I can die happy. 感谢上帝,现在我能快乐地死去了……“Johnny Shelby :You shan’t die! you mustn’t die, nor think of it! I’ve come to buy you, and take you home.你不会死!你不能死!别想到死!我是来赎你,带你回家的。
Uncle Tom(weakly):Master ,You are too late. The Lord is taking me home with him . Please tell Chloe I am sorry I could not see her .Tell her and my children to follow me to Heaven……
Johnny Shelby :The old Satan! It’s a comfort to think the devil will pay hi m for this, some of these days!“老魔王!”
”Uncle Tom:O, don’t!—oh, you mustn’t! Johnny sat there for a moment, holding tom .Then, with a smile, he fell asleep. This place seemed special. Johnny felt like God was in the room with him.
Johnny Shelby had written to his mother merely a line, stating the day that she might expect him home. Of the death scene of his old friend he had not the heart to write. He had tried several times, and only succeeded in half choking himself; and invariably finished by tearing up the paper, wiping his eyes, and rushing somewhere to get quiet. There was a pleased bustle all though the Shelby mansion, that day, in expectation of the arrival of young Master Johnny.
W on’t it look natural to him?I set his plate just where he likes it, round by the fire. Johnny likes the warm seat. O, go way!—why didn’t S ally get out de best tea-pot, the little new one, Johnny got for Missis, Christmas? I’ll have it out! And Missis has heard from Master Johnny?“哦,这样摆怎么样?看上去不错吧?”她说,“我把少爷的座位放在靠炉火的地方,他总是喜欢暖和的位子。
呀,糟啦,萨莉没把最好的茶壶摆出来,就是圣诞节时少爷送给太太的那个新茶壶,我去拿出来吧。
对了,少爷来信了吧?”Mrs. Shelby (谢尔比太太): Yes, Chloe. But only a line, just to say he would be home tonight, if he could,—that’s all.“我接到信了,克鲁伊,他说回家来再详细谈谈。
”Aunt Chloe(克鲁伊大婶):Just like Master Johnny, he wants to tell everything by himself.“少爷就是这个脾气,什么事都要亲自宣布。
