Lydia Bennet
Lydia Bennet is the youngest of the Bennet sisters. Lydia is extremely flirtatious, naive, and reckless. Her main activity in life is socializing, especially flirting with the officers of the militia. This leads to her elopement with George Wickham without much thought for the consequences to her family.
Mrs. Bennet
Mrs. Bennet is overbearing, obnoxious and narrow-minded. Her public manners and social climbing are embarrassing to Jane and Elizabeth. Her favourite daughter is the youngest, Lydia and she values the beauty of the eldest, Jane. Her main ambition in life is to marry her daughters to wealthy men; whether or not any such matches will give her daughters happiness is of little concern to her.
And through his influence, the former tie between Bingley and Jane is renewed, which leads to their engagement.

Pride And Prejudice
Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice
“It is a truth universally acknowledge , that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.”

Austen’s literary concern
Austen’s main literary concern is about human beings in their personal relationship. She is particular preoccupied with the relationship between men and women in love. Stories of love and marriage provide the major themes in all her novels, in which female characters are always playing an active part.

things: • She has declared that the main subject of the novel will be courtship and marriage, • She has established the humorous tone of the novel by taking a simple subject to elaborate and to speak intelligently • She has prepared the reader for a chase in the novel of either a husband in search of a wife, or a women in pursuit of a husband.

Darcy: The word is indeed applied too liberally. I cannot boast of knowing more than half a dozen women in all my acquaintance that are truly accomplished. Caroline: Nor I, to be sure. Elizabeth: Goodness, you must comprehend a great deal in the idea.
Darcy: Perhaps you will give me leave to defer your raptures till I write again. At present I have not room enough to do them justice. Bingley: Well I think it's amazing that you young ladies have the patience to be so accomplished.
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.
Pride and Prejudice

In the beginning, Elizabeth and Darcy were distant from each other because of their prejudice. The series of events which they both experienced gave them the opportunity to understand one another and the time to reconcile their feelings for each other. Thus, their mutual understanding is the foundation of their relationship and will lead them to a peaceful and lasting marriage. This relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy reveals the importance of getting to know one’s partner before marrying.
Austen's plots, though fundamentally comic, highlight the dependence of women on marriage to secure social standing and economic security.
In all of Austen's novels her heroines are ultimately married.

Mrs Bennet impresses me most
her dialogue between her and her husband in the very first chapter in the novel
"Oh! Single, my dear, to be sure! A single man of large fortune; four or five thousand a year. What a fine thing for our girls!" "How so? How can it affect them?" "My dear Mr. Bennet," replied his wife, "how can you be so tiresome! You must know that I am thinking of his marrying one of them." "Is that his design in settling here?" "Design! Nonsense, how can you talk so! But it is very likely that he _may_ fall in love with one of them, and therefore you must visit him as soon as he comes."
our opinions:
• Many people simply regard it as a love story. But in my opinion, this book is an illustration of the society at that time. It perfectly reflects the relationship between money and marriage. It sharply and deeply shows that money is the most important and money determines everybody's life and fate, especially their marriage. We'll also not difficult to find this inevitable problem; all contents showed us money and marriage. The first sentence in Pride and Prejudice declared:" It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife".

Pride and Prejudice
