当你老了》三个中文译本之评析1. 引言正如很多中文诗歌有不同的英文译本一样,许多英文诗歌也不止一个中文译本。

读者在阅读欣赏时,一方面会发现不同译本各有特色,但同时可能也会觉得无论哪种译本均难以全面体现原诗的风格、神韵。

本文选用了爱尔兰诗人叶芝的一首脍炙人口的抒情诗《当你老了》。

这首诗在中国流传的译文有十多种,而且很多学者也非常注重对其译文的研究。

傅浩教授运用五种不同的文学批评理论来阅读,“从不同距离和角度来观察和分析文本,以期有所发现和收获”(傅浩,2002),区?教授遵循许渊冲诗歌翻译的“三美”理论和喻云根的译文比较评析的五点原则对六种译文进行了比较(区?,蒲度戎,2005)。

另外,还有学者用伽达默尔哲学阐释学文本观来解读译文。

本文选取此诗的三个中译本,结合德莱顿的诗歌三分法理论,讨论诗歌翻译的不同方式。

在《翻译的三种类型》中,德莱顿提出了他认为最合适的诗歌翻译方式。

他把诗歌翻译分成三种类型:逐字译、释译和拟作,本文将遵循这三种类型对译文进行评析。

2. 《当你老了》的三个中文译本诗歌《当你老了》的作者威廉?叶芝(1865-1939 ),是一位爱尔兰诗人。

早年曾参加爱尔兰独立运动,后脱离政治运动,专心致力于文学创作。

叶芝在1923 年获得诺贝尔文学奖,是一位对现代诗歌具有重大影响的诗人。

他在1889 年遇见女演员、爱尔兰独立运动战士毛德冈,并爱上她。

他曾多次向她求婚,但均遭拒绝,但他终生爱慕着她,并为她写了许多诗歌。

《当你老了》就是其中一首。

诗里没有华丽的辞藻,没有甜蜜的柔情,甚至听不到一句爱的誓言。

诗人用略带悲哀的语调,诉说着不可挽回的爱情。

要想准确传译这首诗歌,首先要正确地理解它。而要想正 确地理解诗歌,就必须对诗歌的创作背景有充分的认识和理 解。尽管被创作完成的文学作品本身是一个自足的世界,但它 却并不能宣示与其产生的社会和时代无关。无论是作为一定 历史条件下的作家本人,还是文本中的人物、情节、意象甚至所 使用的语言特色,都不能脱离一定的历史文化语境和各种社会 关系而凭空被呈现出来(王立新,2014.04: 30)。因为诗歌是文 学作品,而文学本身是社会的、历史的,离开了当时的社会环境 和历史背景谈理解文学作品是主观的、片面的。另外,选择恰 当的翻译理论和方法也至关重要。“以顿代步”即以汉语的“顿” 代替英语的"音步"以再现原诗的节奏,同时强调原文的韵式也 应在译文中加以复制,从而达到在形式和神韵上与原诗的全面 贴合。近百年来,在英诗汉译过程中“以顿代步”的译诗方法为 众多诗人和翻译大家所青睐,如卞之琳,屠岸等著名诗人,裘小 龙、傅浩和黄杲炘等翻译大家。这足以证明以顿代步译法的权 威性和实用性。因此从以顿代步的角度对英诗的汉译本进行 评析是很有说服力的。
