Thank goodness!"School was over and I was tired. I sat at the front of the school bus.Janie, the driver, always tries to break the uncomfortable atmosphere by talking. I try to listen politely, but usually I’m too busy thinking about my day. On this day, however, her talk was worth listening to."My father’s ill," she said to no one in particular. I could see worry in her eyes. I had never seen her like this before. She always meets students with a smile. With a sudden chance of interest, I asked, "What’s wrong with him?"With her eyes wet and her voice unusual, she answered, "Heart trouble. " Her eyes lowered as she continued, "I’ve already lost my mum, so I don’t think I can stand losing him." I couldn’t answer. My heart ached for her.I sat on the seat thinking of the great pain my own mother was thrown into when her father died.I saw how hard it was, and still is, for her. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through that.Suddenly I realized Janie wasn’t only a bus driver, which was just her job. She had a whole world of family and cares too.I shouldn’t have been so selfish. A child of any age will feel proud and grown-up if parents frequently show their trust. In court a defendant(被告) is innocent until proved guilty. But in the family, a teenager “defendant” is too often assumed guilty.Even when the child is caught in a complete lie, this should not be the end of trust. A parent can tell a child that a single lie is forgivable. Yet it should be clear that if lies continue, the child, like the boy who cried wolf, will suffer loss of trust. When my wife and I discovered that our son Tom, then 13, had lied about throwing a party while we were away, we grounded him for a month. We also told Tom that we could no longer trust him, and we could not allow him to stay alone overnight again. This loss of freedom was an important lesson; he learned how hard it is to live with people when they don’t trust him. As a result, now more than three years later we can again trust Tom to stay alone overnight.Parents must always remember there is no easy answer to this universal problem of lying. We can set a good example, allow for privacy, monitor friendship, develop trust and punish wrong doing, but still we discover our child has lied to us. Finally that’s why there is a need for trust on both sides of a parent-child relationship. Lying destroys closeness and friendship. For that reason, parents should always try to give a child the feeling that they can be trusted with the truth. Parents may start with a child’s trust, but as the child grows older, parents must earn it. 64.When the writer and his wife discovered that their son had lied, they _________.A.took him from all his freedom B.decided that they could never trust him againC.forbade him to stay alone overnight for more than three yearsD.arranged for him to live with people who do not trust him for more than three years 65.We can infer from the passage that very often ________.A.parents don’t trust their child as they shouldB.defendants are usually proved not guilty in courtC.parents have too much trust in their child D.some children are founded guilty in court 66.According to the passage, the writer believes that _____________.A.parents shouldn’t punish their children even if they lieB.it is not easy to deal with the problem of lying as parentsC.there are many effective ways to prevent children from lyingD.a child will stop telling lies as he grows up67.What does the underlined word “ground” mean in the passage?A.To teach someone the basic things they should know in order to be able to do something.B.To stop a child going out with their friends as a punishment for behaving badly.C.To put someone on the ground and beat him.D.To ask someone to stay on the ground and not to move.DA typical Chinese Internet user is a young male who prefers instant messaging to e-mail, favors news, music and games sites and seldom makes online purchases(购物). According to a study, about two-thirds of survey participants use the Internet for news —often entertainment-related — or for online games. Among those who do buy online, most pay for entertainment while others buy phone cards, or computer hardware or software.“Many people don’t trust the quality of goods bought online,” Guo said Wednesday. “If they buy it in a store and don’t like it, they can easily bring it back.”The survey was done in five major cities: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu andChangsha. Results do not necessarily project countrywide because Internet use in rural areas is lower than in cities. Guo describes the typical netizen in the five cities surveyed as young, male, richer and more highly educated. Males make up two-thirds of the Internet community, and more than 80 percent of users are under 24. AMy brother Ron joined the US army a few years ago. Most girls, especially those who are my age, are thrilled by anything that has to do with the “army”. It’s a novelty to them to shoot a gun, jump out of a plane, and wear uniform. Now I know you’re thinking that I must find it really cool to know a solider, who’s my brother. That’s wrong, before I found out that my brother joined the army, I was crazy about the army. Firstly, I wanted to go to college, knew that joining the army was probably the only way I could get it as my parents couldn’t afford it. Additionally there were all the other points of the army that grabbed my heart. I wanted the challenge, I wanted the discipline and I wanted the feeling that I would be doing something beyond the ability of average citizen. But as soon as my brother joined the army, all those things fell away. All I saw were dead people, guns shooting, tanks turning into a ball of fire, tents burning, and lots of blood. It was so horrible. When Ron went to Iraq, I freaked out whenever I didn’t hear from him for more than a week. I kept up with the news, reading the latest newspaper and listening to the hourly reports. And every time I heard that an American solider was killed, I prayed, it’ wasn’t Ron.I’m proud of my brother for serving our country, and his willingness to devote his life to something he finds important. It’s great to see how discipline and mature he’s got, and I’m glad he has his college paid for. But although I am proud, I gladly give up the “coolness” of having a brother in the army. I would be perfectly all right if I had never seen that uniform on him, and he was just a plain old “boring”brother.I love my brother, and I’m proud of him, but I want him back home!21. What did the writer think of the army before Ron joined?A. Joining the army was more beneficial than going to college.B. Joining the army was a good choice for those who couldn’t afford college education.C. Joining the army was meant risking one’s life for something important,D. Joining the army did more harm than good.22. After Ron joined the army, the writer .A. decide to join the army one dayB. became afraid of seeing soldiersC. often showed off Ron in front of friendsD. became aware of the danger of joining the army23. What would be the best title for the passage?A. Peace or war?B. Life in the armyC. Having a soldier in the familyD. A choice between your life and your dreamBThe greatest recent social changes have been in the lives of women. During the twentieth century there has been a remarkable shortening of the proportion of a woman's life spent in caring for the children. A woman marrying at the end of the nineteenth century would probably have been in her middle twenties, and would be likely to have seven or eight children, four or five of whom lived till they were five years old. By the time the youngest was fifteen, the mother would have been in her early fifties and would expect to live a further twenty years, during which health made it unusual for her to get paid work. Today women marry younger and have fewer children. Usually a woman's youngest child will be fifteen when she is forty-five years and can be expected to live another thirty-five years and is likely to take paid work until retirement at sixty. Even while she has to take care of children, her work is lightened by modern living conditions. This important change in women's life-patterns has only recently begun to have its full effect on women's economic position. Even a few years ago most girls took a full-time job after they left school. However, when they married, they usually left work at once and never returned to it. Today the school- leaving age is sixteen; many girls stay at school after that age, and though women usually marry older, more married women stay at work at least until shortly before their first child is born. Many more afterwards return to full-or-part-time work. Such changes have led to a new relationship in marriage, with the husband accepting a greater share of the duties and satisfactions of family life, and with both husband and wife sharing more equally in providing the money, and running the home, according to the abilities and interests of each of them.24. At what age did most women marry around the 1890 according to the passage?A. At about twenty-fiveB. In their earl fiftiesC. At the age of fifteenD. At any age from fifteen to forty-five25. Many girls, the passage claims, are now likely to_______.A. give up their jobs for good after they are marriedB. leave school as soon as they canC. marry so that they can get a jobD. continue working until they are going to have a baby26. When she was over fifty, a late nineteenth-century mother ______.A. was usually expected to die fairly soonB. would expect to work until she diedC. would be healthy enough to take up paid jobsD. was less likely to find a job even if she wanted to27. Nowadays, a husband tends to_______.A. play a greater part in looking after the childrenB. help his wife by doing much of the houseworkC. feel dissatisfied with his role in the familyD. take a part-time job so that he can help in the homeCThe best example of something is often called the "gold standard." It sets the standard against which other things are measured. In economics, the term describes how major trading nations once used gold to set currency values and exchange rates. Many nations continued to use the gold standard until the last century. In the United States, people could exchange paper money for gold from the eighteen seventies until nineteen thirty-three. Then-President Richard Nixon finally disconnected the dollar from the value of gold in nineteen seventy-one. From time to time, some politicians call for a return to the gold standard. In 1978, the International Monetary Fund ended an official gold price. The IMF also ended the required use of gold in transactions with its member countries. Since that time, gold prices have grown and continued to be high. But people keep buying. Some people are "gold bugs." These are investors who say people should buy gold to protect against inflation(通货膨胀).People have valued gold for thousands of years. The soft, dense metal polishes to a bright yellow shine and resists most chemical reactions. It makes a good material for money, political power -- and, more recently, electrical power. If you own a device like a mobile phone or a computer, you might own a little gold in the wiring. The gold standard was the subject of one of the best-known speeches in American political history. William Bryan wanted the country to use both gold and silver as money. The idea was to devalue the dollar and make it easier for farmers to pay their debts. So he delivered a speech, which made him famous. He was a presidential candidate three times. But he never won.28. We can learn from the last paragraph that William Bryan .A. was once a farmerB. loved to collect goldC. was a famous political figureD. was a good at giving speeches DEdward Wilson is America's, if not the world's, leading naturalist. In The Future of Life, he takes us on a tour of the world's natural resources. How are they used? What has been lost? What remains and is it able to continue with the present speed of use? Wilson also points out the need to understand fully the biodiversity(生物多样性)of our earth.Wilson begins with an open letter to the pioneer in environment protection, Henry David Thoreau. He compares today's Walden Pond with that of Thoreau's day. Wilson will use such comparisons for the rest of the book. The problem is clear: man has done great damage to his home over the years. Can the earth, with human help, be made to return to biodiversity levels that will be able to support us in the future?Biodiversity, Wilson argues, is the key to settling many problems the earth faces today. Even our agricultural crops can gain advantages from it. A mere hundred species(物种) are the basis of our food supply, of which but twenty carry the load. Wilson suggests changing this situation by looking into ten thousand species that could be made use of, which will be a way to reduce the clearing of the natural homes of plants and animals to enlarge farming areas. At the end of the book, Wilson discusses the importance of human values in considering the environment. If you are to continue to live on the earth, you may as well read and act on the ideas in this book.32. We learn from the text that Wilson cares most about .A. the environment for plantsB. the biodiversity of our earthC. the waste of natural resourcesD. the importance of human values33. How many species are most important to our present food supply?A. TwentyB. EightyC. One hundredD. Ten thousand34. Wilson suggests that one way to keep biodiversity is to .A. learn how to farm scientificallyB. builds homes for some dying speciesC. makes it clear what to eatD. use more species for food35. Dylan and his dive partner threw theoctopus in the back of their truck and quickly left the scene.Even though what Dylan did wasperfectly legal and even though octopus is on restaurant menus all over theNorthwest, the taking of this particularoctopus touched a nerve. Manybelieve that music helps boost creativity, but an international study conductedby English and Swedish researchers is challenging that belief. Their findingsindicate music actually stymies creativity. To come to their conclusions, researchers hadparticipants complete verbal insight problems designed to inspire creativitywhile sitting in a quietroom, and then again while music played in thebackground. They found that background music “significantly damaged”the participants’ abil ity to complete tasks associated with verbal creativity. The research team also tested background noises such as those commonly heard ina library, but found that such noises had no impact on subjects’ creativity. The tasks were simple word games. For example, participants were given threewords, such as dress, dial, and flower. Then, they were asked to find a singleword associated with all three that could be combined to form a common phraseor word. The single word, in this case, would be “sun” . Participants completed the tasks in either a quiet room, orwhile exposed to three different types of music; music with unfamiliar lyrics, instrumental music, or music with familiar lyrics.“We found strong evidence of damaged performancewhen playing background music in comparison to quiet background conditions,”says co-author Dr. Neil McLatchie of Lancaster University.Dr. McLatchie and his colleagues theorize thatmusic interferes with the verbal working memory processes of the brain, blocking creativity. Also, as far a s the library background noises havingseemingly no effect, the study’s authors believe that was the case becauselibrary noises create a “steady state” environment that doesn’tdisrupt concentration. It’s worth mentioning that even familiar music with wellknown lyrics damaged participants’ creativity, regardless of whether or not itcaused a positive reaction, or whether participants typically studied orcreated while listening to music.“To conclude, the findings here challengethe popular view that music strengthens creativity, and instead demonstratethat music, regardless of the presence of semantic content ,consistently disrupts creative performance in insight problem solving,”the study reads.(1)Why are Mozart and Metallica mentioned at the beginning?A . To prove they are very creative.B . To introduce the topic of the text.C . To show the importance of music.D . To offer some background information.(2)What does the underlined word “stymies” in the first paragraph probably mean?A . Blocks.B . Boosts.C . Inspires.D . Strengthens.(3)If the participants were given the words fire, place and book during the game, a proper answer could be .A . manB . storeC . workD . birth(4)What do we know about the study?A . The tasks were very difficult for participants to finish.B . All participants were exposed to two different types of music.C . Music with famous lyrics didn’t harm participants’ creativity.D . Library background noises hardly affected participants’ creativity.3. 阅读理解Heart disease is one of the major killers in theworld today. Many who suffer from it must have heart transplants. However, it’sdifficult to get a suitable heart donation, and even if a patient survives thewait, his or her body often rejects the heart. But there is now new hope for sufferers of heartdisease. According to a study published in the journal Advanced Science, researchers from Israel’s Tel Aviv University printed a 3D human heart on April15.“This is the first time anyone anywhere hassuccessfully engineered and printed an entire heart,” professor Tal Dvirtold CNN. Unlike the previous 3D-printed heart structure, the new heart iscomplete with cells, blood vessels, chambers and other structures a heart needsto function normally. But scientists still have more to figure out before the3D-printed heart can be fitted into the body. For one thing, the experimentalheart is only the size of a thumb. And, although it can contract like a muscle,it cannot pump out blood like a real one. At present, the heart prototype islike a tiny airplane that has all of the right parts, but can’t fly. However, the development is still regarded as amajor breakthrough in medicine. In the experiment, the researchers turned humanfat tissue into human heart tissue with stem cell technology. The tissue wasthen turned into “bio-ink” for a 3D printer to ensure that tissue inthe heart came from the patients themselves. So ideally, if it were to beplaced in the body of someone in need of a transplant, there would be less riskof organ rejection. “Patients will no longer have to wait for transplantsor take medications to prevent their rejection,” researchers told USAToday. “Instead, the needed heart will be printed, fully personalized forevery patient.”But the scientists think that 3D printing can beused to create otherhuman organs. They foresee a time when the 3D printing oforgans will be an everyday medical practice. “Maybe, in 10 years, therewill be organ printers in the finest hospitals around the world and theseprocedures will be conducted routinely,” Dvir said.(1)Why do scientists have to do further research before fitting the 3D-printed heart into the body?A . Because the heart is incomplete.B . Because the heart can’t pump out blood.C . Because the heart is an airplane that can’t fly.D . Because the heart can’t contract like a muscle.(2)What can we infer from the last two paragraphs?A . The needed heart will be printed to meet every patient’s need.B . The 3D printing of organs will be an unusual medical practice.C . Dvir has a negative attitude towards the future of organ printers.D . Patients will need medicines to stop their rejection for their heart transplant.(3)What can serve as the best title for the passage?A . Organ printers in the hospitals.B . How to get a suitable heart donation.C . Heart disease: one of the major killers.D . A 3D-printed heart: new hope for heart disease sufferers.二、任务型阅读(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)4. 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Haven't you noticed that you have become smarter since you started to learn a language?According to a new study by a British university, learning a second language can lead to an increase in your brain power. Researchers found that learning other languages changes grey matter. This is the area of the brain which processes information. It is similar to the way that exercise builds muscles. The study also found the effect is greater, the younger people learn a second language.A team led by Dr Andrea Mechelli, from University College London, took a group of Britons who only spoke English. They were compared with a group of "early bilinguals" who had learnt asecond language before the age of five, as well as a number of later learners.Scans showed that grey matter density(密度) in the brain was greater in bilinguals than in people without a second language. But the longer a person waited before mastering a new language, the smaller the difference."Our findings suggest that the structure of the brain is changed by the experience of learning a second language," said the scientists. It means that the change itself increases the ability to learn.Professor Dylan Vaughan Jones of the University of Wales, has researched the link betweenbilingualism and maths skills."Having two languages gives you two windows on the world and makes the brain more flexible(灵活的), "he said."You are actually going beyond language and have a better understanding of different ideas."The findings were matched in a study of native Italian speakers who had learned English as a second language between the ages of two and 34.Reading, writing, and comprehension were all tested. The results showed that the younger they started to learn, the better."Studying a language means you get an entrance to another world," explained the scientists.13.The main subject talked about in this passage is ______ .A.science on learning a second languageB.man’s ability of learning a second languageC.1anguage can help brain powerD.1anguage learning and maths study14.In the second paragraph, the writer mentions “exercise” in order to ______ .A.say language is also a kind of physical laborB.prove that one needs more practice when he(she) is learning a languageC.to show the importance of using the language when you learn the languageD.make people believe language learning helps grey matter work well15.The underlined word “bilingual” probably means ______ .A.a researcher on language learningB.a person who is good at learning foreign languagesC.a person who can speak two languagesD.an active language learner二、阅读七选五(本题共计1小题,总分10分)5.(10分)第二节七选五(共5小题,每题2分,共10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

Fashion.Losing an eye might be an unthinkable thing, especially for a young woman, but not for Xintong. She chose to become an ocularist (义眼师) who makes prosthetic eyes (义眼) for herself and people in the same situation to help them get back their confidence. Xintong is the name that she gave to herself – which she prefers people to call her instead of her real name –because “xintong” in Chinese sounds like “new pupils”.Nearly 10 years after losing her right eye in a car accident, 28-year-old Xintong from Beijing transformed the hollow of her eye socket –a “flaw” she used to hide – into a fashion statement. She shared a short video online in which she wears a glowing prosthetic eye. As she waves her hand, the prosthetic eye begins to shine with red light. With another wave, the light changes to green and then purple and white. The video soon went viral on social media, with many comments praising her for being “creative”, “beautiful” and “optimistic”. But that wasn’t the case 10 years ago.“The prosthetic eye I wore at that time was torturing me,” Xintong said. “It hurt and gave me a red and swollen eye socket, and it looked so dull and fake. I was young and I wanted to look attractive.”She took matters into her own hands and began researching prosthetic eyes. Beginning in 2019, she dedicated about two years to mastering the production techniques and skills under the guidance of an ocularist. This journey led her to establish her own prosthetic eye studio, providing personalized services for those requiring them. She produces prosthetic eyes as if she is creating pieces of artwork. “The posi tion, direction, and even stroke thickness of the blood streaks on the prosthetic eyeballs matter,” the ocularist said. Sometimes she also paints special patterns according to customers’ needs: twinkling stars, cartoon characters like Cardcaptor Sakura and effects like colored contact lenses. Now when Xintong hears her customers say words such as “Finally, I can accept myself” or “Now I feel free to take selfies”, she feels deeply moved.4.Why did Xintong give the name "Xintong"to herself?A. To see if genes also affect vegetarianism, Nabeel Yaseen at Northwestern University in Chicago and his team turned to data on about 5300 strict vegetarians and 330,000 meat eaters. They found that three gene variants were more common in vegetarians. Two, called NPC1 and RMC1, are involved in the transport and metabolism of cholesterol and other fatty molecules. The third gene, called RIOK3, has various functions, including affecting the immune system. It isn’t known how these genes may relate to vegetarianism. But one of the chief differences between animal-based foods and plant-based ones is the chemical make-up of their fats or oils, collectively known as lipids (油脂). Yaseen conclude that some people may function better on a vegetarian diet because they are more able to synthesize (合成) certain lipid molecules that are present in meat. Some people who try vegetarianism but give up may be doing so because their body becomes deficient in the essential lipids, says Yaseen. “They decide that this diet is not for them or gradually go back into an omnivore (杂食) diet. Some people might think they just don’t have the willpower.”Another possibility is that the apparently vegetarianism-promoting gene variants affect people’s taste. “Alot of information about genes is yet to be known,” Yaseen says.Richard McIlwain at the UK Vegetarian Society says the number of vegetarians has almost doubled in the UK between 2012 and 2019. “That would seem to suggest something other than potential genetic factors are at play,” he says. “People go vegetarian because, more and m ore, they are concerned about climate, about animal welfare or about their health,” he says, which are more important determinants than physiological factors.8.What's the effect of RIOK3?A. To affect the metabolism of cholesterol.B. To influence the immune system.C. To shift cholesterol and fatty molecules.D. To affect the diet of vegetarianism.9.According to Yaseen’s study. who are more likely to produce lipid molecules appearing in meat?A. Omnivores.B. Meat-eatersC. Vegetarians.D. Weight-losers. 10.What does the underline word “deficient” in paragraph 4 mean?A. lacking.B. limited.C. rich.D. enough.11.Which of the following might Richard agree most?A. Genetic factors are the decisive reasons for being a vegetarian.B. The popularity of vegetarianism has been on a sharp increase globally.C. People choose to be a vegetarian mainly for ethical and health concerns.D. Some people fail to be a vegetarian because they tend to give up halfway. The rainforests are alive with the sound of animals. Besides the pleasure of the din, it is also useful to ecologists. If you want to measure the biodiversity of a piece of land, listening out for animal calls is much easier than digging about in the undergrowth looking for tracks. Bu t such “bio-acoustic analysis” is still time-consuming, and it requires an expert pair of ears.In a paper published on October 17th in Nature Communications, a group of researchers led by Jörg Müller, an ecologist at the University of Würzburg, describe a better way: have a computer do the job. Smartphone apps already exist that will identify birds, bats or mammals simply by listening to the sounds they make. Their idea was to apply the principle to conservation work. The researchers took recordings from across 43 sites in the Ecuadorean rainforest. Sound recordings were taken four times every hour, over two weeks. The various calls wereidentified manually by an expert, and then used to construct a list of the species present. As expected, the longer the land had been free from agricultural activity, the greater the biodiversity it hosted. Then it was the computer’s turn. The researchers fed their recordings to artificial-intelligence models that had been trained, using sound samples from elsewhere in Ecuador, to identify 75 bird species from their calls. “We found that the AI tools could identify the sounds as well as the experts,” says Dr Müller.Of course, not everything in a rainforest makes a noise. Dr Müller and his colleagues used light-traps to capture night-flying insects, and DNA analysis to identify them. Reassuringly, they found that the diversity of noisy animals was a reliable proxy (指标) for the diversity of the quieter ones, too.The results may have relevance outside ecology departments, too. Under pressure from their customers, firms such as L’Oreal, a make-up company, and Shell, an oil firm, have been spending money on forest restoration projects around the world. Dr Müller hopes that an automated approach to checking on the results could help monitor such efforts, and give a standardized way to measure whether they are working as well as their sponsors say 12.Which of the following best describes Dr Muller's method of bio-acoustic analysis?A. Costly.B. Impractical.C. High-tech.D. Labor-consuming. 13.What can we learn from the research of Dr Muller?A. The species in the rain forests have increased.B. Agricultural activity negatively influenced the richness in species.C. There are more reliable sound recordings in Ecuadorean rainforest.D. Trained AI models can identify as many kinds of sounds as experts.14.Why did the Dr Muller and his colleagues do the survey in Paragraph 5?A. To figure out the species of quieter animals.B. To confirm the biodiversity of the quieter animals.C. To emphasize the biodiversity of the noisy animals.D. To compare the noisy animals and the quieter ones.15.What's the main idea of the last paragraph?A. The investment in bio-acoustic analysis.B. The importance of forest restoration projects.C. The standard to measure the automated approach.D. The research’s impact on forest restoration projects.二、七选五16.There are two kinds of people climbing a mountain. We’ll give you three main reasons your pursuit of health and youth through lifestyle choices is an essential. You should build a strong foundation now.You probably know people who’ve survived a horrific disease —and it was said that their preexisting physical and spirits str engthen their bodies for battle and made them better equipped to endure stresses. That’s true with the recent COVID-19 pandemic: Severe cases are more likely for those with preexisting conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, chronic lung disease and so on.②_______That is, healthy choices will help prevent chronic disease and set you up for a long life. It’s unclear how many reboots you’ll get.Perhaps in a utopian 25th-century world, there will exist some places that allows you to walk into a booth, press a few buttons, and erase every cigarette you’ve smoked, every couch you’ve potatoed, every potato you’ve ever fried.③_______Your ability to maximize their effectiveness will depend on your commitment to improving your biology through proven means: nutrition, physical activity, sleep, not smoking, and stress management.④_______The human brain remains the final biological frontier. So even if science ultimately allows us to correct our cells, genes, and other mechanisms that make our bodies work, when your brain goes, you will too.⑤_______And the steps are the same as those you can take to protect the rest of your body.A. What's the difference between them?B. No matter what happens, your brain needs you.C. You have the ability to change how your brain works and reacts.D. The same thinking will apply when we're talking about longevity.E. So you will definitely self-engineer your DNA switches to protect your brain.F. Your longevity depends more on the aggregate of what you do most of the time.G. But for the near future, it’s far more likely that your reboot chances will be limited.三、完形填空(15空)I didn’t really plan to learn percussion (打击乐器). A few rabbits arrived with British settlers in 1788, but it was not until 1859,when a British-born farmer named Thomas Austinbrought 24 European rabbits to his land for hunting, that they began to live there. They are an excellentexample of an invasive species,a non-native speciesthat does harm to its new environment.Rabbits have lived well in many different environments within Australia, such as grasslands, coastal areas, farmland, and even in towns or cities. Their activities have destroyed crops and plants. They compete directly with other wildlife for food and shelter, including taking over burrows (地洞) of other animals. They have led to dangerously reduced populations of many plant and animalspecies.Efforts to control the rabbit population have hadmixed success. The first main effort was theRabbit-Proof Fence. In 1901, the government started building a knee in the state of Western Australia to protect farmland from rabbits. By thetime it was finished in 1907, the Rabbit-Proof Fenceran some 2, 000 miles from north to south. TheActing Chief Inspector of Rabbits, AlexanderCrawford, headed a team whose job was to goaround keeping the fence in working order. But overtime, the fence proved to be no match for the rabbits.Other main efforts have included programs to destroy rabbit burrows or use viruses that sicken and kill rabbits. Again, these efforts have beenless than successful. The big problem to any effortsto control the rabbit population is simply that theirpopulation grows so quickly. One female can have30 young in a year.If Thomas Austin had known the damage thatthe rabbits would cause across the country, he mighthave had second thoughts about bringing rabbits toAustralia.14.
