’s mail are in English. Millions of books and magazines are written in English. English is also the language of global culture, such as popular music, films and the Internet. English is really a bridge to knowledge. With the help of English we can learn modern science and technology faster and better form the developed countries and communicate with other countries. In this way we

can serve our country better.

Once Li Ming makes up his mind , nothing can be done to change his mind . He is fond of travelling, so he determines to cycle to Tibet with his friend, Wang Gang. But Wang Gang prefers to drive rather than cycle and he is very stubborn .

Li Ming often reads some geography textbooks and is familiar with Tibet, so he told Wang Gang

the advantages of cycling. Finally it took him two hours to persuade Wang Gang to change his

mind.

On May 12th, 2008, a powerful earthquake struck Wenchuan in Sichuan Province. The whole

nation was shocked at the news.

What frightening scenes! The whole town

lay in ruins . A great number of buildings fell.

Huge cracks cut across houses, roads and canals. Mountains collapsed. Roads were buried by stones and bricks. Water and electricity were cut off. Thousands of people were trapped under

the ruins! In a word, everywhere I looked, nearly everything was destroyed.

But fortunately, after the earthquake, all the people, including farmers, workers and volunteers, took action right away . Everyone did their bit to help them out of the disaster.

I sincerely hope Wenchuan will return to normal with the aid of all the people as soon as

possible!
