comfortable.Going for a run seems like such a bad idea. But before you hide your running shoes,it might be worth giving that crazy idea a go.According to The Huffington Post,an outdoor run in winter,as opposed to one on a treadmill (跑步机),burns more calories because the body is working hard to regulate(调节)its core temperature.Furthermore, research shows that race times are faster in cold weather than in warmer temperatures-and quicker runs burn more calories.Similarly, cold weather also makes the heart work harder to distribute blood through the body, making that vital muscle even stronger.Outdoor exercise also turns up your energy and rids you of the stress and depression that build up every day.The heat and humidity in the summer can drag you down and tire you faster, but cold weather is refreshing. It adjusts you to your surroundings, making you feel alive.Of course, the threat of smog in some built-up areas is a further hurdle to winter exercise.Heart attacks, stroke, lung cancer and asthma are all dangers of running in smog.Thecombination of air pollution and exercise increases the potential problems. If you do choose to run outside on smoggy days, take a path in a park or residential area to avoid car exhaust(尾气),and go early in the morning, before rush hour. But staying inside on smoggy days and waiting for the next clear day to run is best.32.How does cold weather Originally created in Denmark and launched in Brighton and Leeds in June, the service has recently been introduced in the United Kingdom by a couple of young entrepreneurs(企业家).Millions of tons of food are thrown in the trash every year, with restaurants accounting for a large part, so eco-entrepreneurs Chris Wilson and Jamie Crummie came up with the good idea to stop food waste. Using Too Good to Go not only helps restaurants save expense, but gives people in need the chance to order fancy dishes at low prices.Too Good to Go is very convenient for users. Restaurants make food available on the Too Good To Go app and website. People can look through the available dishes on the smartphones, pay for them using credit card and pick them up at a set time, an hour before closing time.Although Too Good to Go does take a fee from restaurants for each sale, its creators say the end goal is to use it for restaurants to solve their waste management problem, rather than making a profit. Wilson claims, “The idea is that restaurants stop producing the extra food so they don't need to throw it away in the trash, and we really want to put ourselves out of business by stopping food waste.”Birmingham has become the latest city where restaurants can reduce food waste to the lowest limit by working with the Too Good To Go social enterprise app.25.Where was Too Good to Go originally launched? ________A.In Denmark. D.By getting donations from entrepreneurs.28.What can we infer from the text? ________A.People can pay less money for a rich meal. B.The app is mainly designed to help the poor. C.Dishes can be sold to make a lot of profits. D.People can get their ordered food at home.CWhen was the last time you upgraded your smartphone, and put your old handset into a cupboard never to be seen again?Rather than seeing how much we can get for it on eBay, the high-street retailer(零售商)Three is encouraging customers to do something good. The cheery, green-eyed 4-year-old, who has autism(自闭症), is also here to expose young kids to those with autism and teach them about acceptance. The creators decided to bring the Muppet on air so that she would be able to reach millions more kids and families. However, as autism looks different in everyone, it can be hard to introduce such a character properly. Sesame Workshop consulted with over 250 educators, psychologists, and autism organizations. In Julia's first episode, viewers observe common problems with kids who suffer autism and similar disorders. For example, when the other Muppets want to play hide and seek, Julia starts jumping up and down with excitement. Instead of laughing at her or correcting her, the group of Muppets start jumping with her and it becomes a new game. And when Julia first meets Big Bird, another Muppet, she ignores him. At first, Big Bird is hurt, but he learns that it doesn't mean she dislikes him—she just communicates with strangers in a different way.Julia was an instant hit. Families quickly connect with the little red-haired girl. Sherrie Westin, an executivevice president at Sesame Workshop, says her favorite feedback came from a mother, who used Julia to explain to her autistic daughter what the condition meant, inspiring the daughter t o say, “So I'm amazing, too, right?”Autism affects 1 in 68 children in the United States and scores more worldwide. Hopefully, by watching Julia, kids will see that everyone should be treated equally and appreciated.32.What does the underlined word “them”in Paragraph 1 refer to? ________A.Sesame Street's Muppets. There are many tales about their origin. The most popular is that the festival is celebrated in honor of Qu Y uan. Qu Yuan was more concerned about his country but was not understanding by the rulers. Feeling desperately, he jumped into the Miluo River on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month, 278 BC. Before he died, the fishermen sailed their boats to look up for his body. People throw zongzi into the water, hoping to keep possible fish attacking his body. One of the things that concern me most is the future of the Alaska environment. About twenty years ago, before going on some wilderness research, I visited Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska. It was a small city of 40, 000 people surrounded by a quiet wilderness. When I made a recent trip there, I found amazing changes. Anchorage now has a hundred and eight thousand people, more than four times a s many as in 1960. There’re tall buildings, shopping centers and all the crowds and traffic jams. The forests and mountains are still nearby, but they seem so small compared to the city’s great size. The discovery of oil in Alaska brought increased wealth to the state. However, there have been too many people moving to Alaska in a very short period to work on the pipeline. There is not enough housing or transportation.I think Alaska must make important decisions soon. Alaskans need to decide how to develop their natural resources and mineral wealth without destroying the wilderness and harming the wildlife. What is decided on now will affect the generations to come. For today’s lecture, I’ve brought along many of the pictures I usually show in my environmen tal science classesin my own university. First, I’ll show you some pictures of Alaska’s wilderness as it is today. Then I’d like to outline my specific suggestions.Dear Gary,I’m very glad to know that you are coming to China. Of course, a Chinese name will help you better fit in with the new culture. The biggest difference between Chinese names and English names is that we put the family name first. A Chinese name usually consists of two or three characters, which often carry some special significance or expectations. As you are an energetic and warm-hearted boy, I recommend you the name Li Yang. The family name, which is shared by billions of Chinese, has the same pronunciation as yours. The given name means the sun in Chinese.I hope you like your new name and have a really good time in China.Yours,Li Hua。

opposed to one on a treadmill (跑步机),burns more calories because the body is working hard to regulate(调节)its core temperature.Furthermore, research shows that race times are faster in cold weather than in warmer temperatures-and quicker runs burn more calories.Similarly, cold weather also makes the heart work harder to distribute blood through the body, making that vital muscle even stronger.Outdoor exercise also turns up your energy and rids you of the stress and depression that build up every day.The heat and humidity in the summer can drag you down and tire you faster, but cold weather is refreshing. If you do choose to run outside on smoggy days, take a path in a park or As a recent article in The Guardiannewspaper noted, “There’s more to understanding a joke in a foreign language than understanding vocabulary and grammar.”Being able to understand local jokes is often seen as an incredible ice-breaker for a language learner eager to form friendships with native speakers. “I always felt that humor was a ceiling (上限) that I could never break through,” Hannah Ashley, a public relations account manager in London, who once studied Spanish in Madrid. Told The Guardian, “I could never speak to people on the same level as I would speak to a native English speaker. I almost came across as quite a boring person because all I could talk about was facts.”In fact, most of the time, jokes are only funny for people who share a cultural background or understand humor in the same way. Chinese-American comedian Joe Wong found this out first-hand. He had achieved huge success in the US, but when he returned to China in 2008 for his first live show in Beijing, he discovered that people didn’t think his. Chinese jokes were as funny as his English ones.In Australia, meanwhile many foreigners find understanding jokes about sports to be the biggest headache. “The hardest jokes are related to rugby because I know nothing about rugby,” said Mel ody Cao, who was once a student inAustralia. “When I heard jokes I didn’t get, I just laughed along.”In the other two major English-speaking countries, the sense of humor is also different. British comedian Simon Pegg believes that while Britons use irony-basically, saying something they don’t mean to make a joke-every day, people in the US don’t see the point of using it so often. “British jokes tend to be more subtle and dark, while American jokes are more obvious with their meanings, a bit like Amer icans themselves,” he wrote in The Guardian.25. The writer quoted the sentence, “There’s more to understanding a joke in a foreign language than under standing vocabulary and grammar.” to show that______.A. making jokes can help you make friends with native speakersB. local jokes can help you to understand the local culture better.C. understanding jokes requires a good knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.D. to understand its jokes, you’d better lean the culture.26. What can we guess about Hannah Ashley?A. She feels confident in using Spanish.B. She believes that one had better rely on facts when speaking a foreign language.C. She thinks that Spanish people do not have much of a sense of humor.D. She feels that not being able to share their humor makes her seem boring to Spanish people.27. Joe Wong is used as an example to _______.A. show that there are cultural differences in humorB. prove that it can be difficult to translate jokesC. suggest that bilingual people (双语者) have no problems in making people laughD. show that the expressing ability affects the sense of humor28. From the article, we can learn that _______.A. jokes about sports are the most difficult ones for foreign people who have different cultural backgroundsB. Americans might not be able to enjoy British jokesC. not all English native speakers can understand English jokes easilyD. British people’s dark jokes often make people uncomfortableDDACDigital wallets have been called the future of real-world payment technology. With major players like Alipay, WecChat and Apple Pay becoming popular, it seems to be a safe bet that a change in consumer payment technology is coming soon.A recent study by Citi Retail Services found that a growing number of people are embracing digital wallets, due in large part to their convenience and ease of use , “There’s no question 2016 will be an important year as digital wallets gain more acceptance.”, Leslie MeNamara, managing dir ector of partner management, Citi Retail Services, noted.Last month, CNN reporter Will Ripley experience a day in Beijing without his wallet. “In China’s largest cities, you can definitely survive without carrying a pocket full of cash and credit cards- as long as you’ve got your smartphone,” he wrote. “A huge number of businesses in Beijing accept mobile payments.”He paid for breakfast by scanning a QR code on the window of a hole-in-the –wall restaurant. All he had to do was enter a password and the transaction(交易) was completed. Then he also used his phone to pay for movies tickets, buy takeout food, order goods for delivery. In fact, he was not the only one to enjoy this convenience. His assistant Shen Lu also paid her household water bill with her mobile phone. In seconds, she was able to transfer funds( 存款) from one of several linked accounts.Unlike the situations in the US and other countries, “China doesn’t have a really money-making credit card system”. On one hand, it stands straight and stays green all year round, so it’s always full of life. I wish you as strong and energetic as a bamboo. On the other hand, it’s hard outside but hollow inside. If compared to a bamboo, one is usually considered to be strong-willed and modest. But it wouldn’t matter if you took part on your own. You’d soon make friends with other people there. Most of the people there were teenagers. We were a very international group in my team. Over half of the people there were from Australia, like me, but there were also people from China, Thailand and the USA. Most teams were working on the south coast of the country, but mine was working on the east. We had to pick up all the rubbish that we could find on the seaside. It has all made me realize how important it is for everyone to be aware of the environment. I’m determined now to get my family to recycle as much as possible. It’ll be worth it if we ca n make our seas safer for all those beautiful sea animals. So, if you’d like to join me taking part in this Day next year, it’ll be on January 11th. The focus on that day will be on getting rubbish out of rivers. There’ll be a day later in the year on cleaning up woodlands.。
