对中职学生来说，他们上课的时候大多是出于被动的消极状态，虽认真听课、忙于笔记，但很少认真思考、主动提问。
最重要的是，学生自主学习的动力不足、毅力不够，稍有难度就想放弃，打退堂鼓。
而且，大多数学生缺乏自我监控与管理能力，在自我学习的管理、学习环境的营造、学习目标的制定、学习方法的调整等方面都不同程度存在着问题，有待教师引导，诸如此类的问题都是核心素养养成的绊脚石。
二、 中职英语学科核心素养的培养策略英语学科核心素养是新课程目标，也是一种新的课程观。
为了使学科核心素养落实到学生、落实到课堂，下面结合江苏省职业学校文化课教材英语第三册Unit 2 “My duties”中Reading板块内容“Excerpt from a Waiter Training Manual”，通过创设系列活动导向教学，进行有效落实学科核心素养的研究。
1. 整合教学资源，开展活动导向教学。
本课主题是关于社会服务，旨在帮助学生认识餐厅服务生的工作职责和注意事项。
为此，教师设计以下活动导向任务：首先，课前热身活动。
教师将团队自主开发的职场英语系列微课中的“餐厅服务员必备英语”上传学习平台，要求学生通过自主学习和小组互助学习，掌握微课中的生词和重点语句，了解餐厅服务员在各服务环节应掌握的重要语句。
其次，课中学习理解活动。
基于短文，引导学生梳理短文结构、获取主题知识、概括服务生各环节服务须知。
最后，设计主题意义探究活动，通过小组讨论，深化学生对主题内容的理解，从而树立正确的职业道德观。
2. 创设教学情境，提高语言技能。
