Never serve yourself while the dish is on your right; it is then the turn of your neighbour on the right.Do not reach across the table or in front of someone to get something---that is not polite. Ask him or her to pass it to you. There are things in the middle of the table, such as bread, butter, and candies. You shouldn’t take any until the hostess tells the servant to pass them to you.Do not leave your seat without saying anything.

Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage? Which of the following statementsis NOT true?2)特殊疑问词提问类型How many……?What/who/when/where/how/why……?3)排序题类型Which of the orders is correct according to the passage?4)例证题类型The author gives the example in……paragraph in order to ……

One of the rules is that young people should always respect(尊敬) elders. Unluckily, this rule led to my very first embarrassment in the United States.I had a part-time job as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. One time, when I was serv ing food to a middle-aged couple, the wife asked me how the food could be served so q uickly. I told her that I had made sure they got their food quickly because I always resp ect the elderly. As soon as I said that, her face showed great displeasure. My manager, w ho happened to hear what I said, took me aside and gave me a long lecture about how s ensitive(敏感) Americans are and how they dislike the description “old”. I then walked ba ck to the table and apologized to the wife. After the couple heard my reason, they unders tood that the problem was caused by cultural differences, so they laughed and were no lo nger angry. In my village in China, people are proud of being old. Not so many people live to be seventy or eighty, and people who reach such an age have the most knowledge and e xperience. Young people always respect older people because they know they can learn fr om their rich experience. However, in the United States, people think “growing old” is a problem since “old” s hows that a person is going to retire or that the body is not working well. Here many pe ople try to keep themselves away from growing old by doing exercises or jogging, and w omen put on makeup, hoping to look young. When I told the couple in the restaurant tha t I respect the elderly, they got angry because this caused them to feel they had failed to stay young. I had told them something th ey didn?t want to hear. After that, I changed the way I had been with older people. One of my father’s friends, Bernie, was a rich businessman, who owned a large store in St. Paul.Every summer, when the first watermelons arrived, Bernie would call. Dad and I would go to Bernie’s place. We’d sit on the edge of the dock(码头), feet dangling(摇晃), and got ready for a big meal.Bernie would take his knife, cut our first watermelon, hand us both a big piece and sit down next to us. Then we’d bury our faces in watermelon, eating only the heart—the reddest, juiciest, firmest, sweetest, most seed-free part—and throw away the rest.Bernie was my father’s idea of a rich man. I always thought it was because he was such a successful businessman. Years later, I realized that it was not Bernie’s wealth itself but his way of dealing with it that my father liked. Bernie knew how to stop working, get together with friends and eat only the heart of the watermelon. What I learned from Bernie is that being rich is a state of mind. Some of us, no matter how much money we have, will never be free enough to eat only the heart of the watermelon. If you don’t take the time to dangle your feet over the dock and enjoy life’s small pleasure, your work is probably hurting your life. For many years, I forgot that lesson I’d learned as a kid on the loading dock. I was too busy making all the money I could.Well, I’ve relearned it. I hope I have time left to enjoy the success of others and to take pleasure in the day. That’s the heart of the watermelon. 1When you’re invited to have dinner in a foreigner’s home, please remember the following:At table, when the hostess (女主人)picks up her napkin(餐巾),you may pick up yours and put it on your legs.If a servant(佣人)passes food around, he will pass the dish to you at your left hand so that you can easily serve yourself with your right hand. If you need to leave the table to go to the washroom or do something else, you should say “Excuse me for a moment, please.”41. You should put your napkin on your legs before the hostess picks up hers.42. The dish is passed to you on either of your sides.43. In the 19th century, in a dangerous part of the sea near New Zealand, there was a dolphin. The seamen liked him very much and gave him a very good name, Jack. From 1871 to 1903, Jack met every boat in the area and showed it the way. In 1903 a passenger on a boat with the name of The Penguin shot and hurt Jack. Luckily the dolp hin didn’t die, and after a long time he was well again.

Can you can a can like a caner can can a can?

Ask him or her to pass it to you. There are things in the middle of the table, such as bread, butter, and candies.

Can you can a can like a caner can can a can?

I find my thoughts on how much you have done for me,but I have never stopped and said toyou how much I feel the need to thank you.

比如what’s going on there?

1When I was a kid in Minnesota, watermelon was expensive.
