The notes were not in modularized; it was a printed onesizefitsall messa ge.My roommate realized I didn't receive a thankyou note, so she sent a private message to the couple just letting them know I had been left out.I didn't know she had done this until later. The next day, I got a text message apologizing and saying that I had been left out because their friend who addressed the notes must have missed me!(Miss Manners, they didn't even address the notes themselves!)It was accompanied by a picture of the thankyou note, which was texted to me with the message, “Here is a thank you just for you. ”I was a little annoyed.I helped them in their need and didn't geta second thought.I have not responded to her text message. Is it fair of me to consider this friendship over? Should I tell her that I am upset, or should I accept that this rude thank you was better than nothing?文章大意:这是一篇书信文体阅读。

第二节推理判断题一、细节推断题(2019·全国Ⅱ,B)“You can use me as a last resort(选择),and if nobody else volunteers, then I will do it.”This was an actual reply from a parent after I put out a request for volunteers for my kids’lacrosse(长曲棍球) club.I guess that there’s probably some demanding work schedule,or social anxiety around stepping up to help for an unknown sport. She may just need a little persuading. So I try again and tug at the heartstrings.I mention the single parent with four kids running the show and I talk about the dad coaching a team that his kids aren’t even on...At this point the unwilling parent speaks up,“Alright.Yes,I’ll do it.”I’m secretly relieved because I know there’s real power in sharing volunteer responsibilities among many. The unwilling parent organizes the meal schedule, sends out emails, and collects money for end-of-season gifts.Somewhere along the way,the same parent ends up becoming an invaluable member of the team. The coach is able to focus on the kids while the other parents are relieved to be off the hook for another season.Handing out sliced oranges to bloodthirsty kids can be as exciting as watching your own kid score a goal.Still, most of us volunteers breathe a sigh of relief when the season comes to a close. That relief is coupled with a deep understanding of why the same people keep coming back for more:Connecting to the community(社区) as you freely give your time, money, skills,or services provides a real joy.V olunteering just feels so good.In that sense,I’m pretty sure volunteering is more of a selfish act than I’d freely like to admit. However,if others benefit in the process, and I get some reward too, does it really matter where my motivation lies?24.What can we infer about the parent from her reply in Paragraph 1?A.She knows little about the club.B.She isn’t good at sports.C.She just doesn’t want to volunteer.D.She’s unable to meet her schedule.答案 C解析推理判断题。

【由山东省2022模拟改编】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
“Confidence” is probably one of the most noticeable traits(品质)in the Americans. They show confidence in the way they talk, the way they smile, the way they dress and the way they walk.Living and competing with all these confidence American students,I find it extremely important to be confident as an international student and instructor. As a student, being confident means you should never hesitate to raise your hand whenever a question or a point comes to your mind.Don’t mind if it sounds simple or silly.Otherwise you will never get a chance to speak in class at all. What’s worse, the professors may think you are not prepared for the discussion or you do not have your own opinion on the issue—this is the last comment any graduate would like to receive.Being confidence for me as a foreign instructor means calmly asking the student to repeat what he or she has said if I did not get it.Pretending to understand what you actually did not may just bring yourself embarrassment or even disgrace. But the time I most need to be confident is when my students come to my office and bargain about the grades I have given for their Speeches.(The course I’m teaching here is Public Speaking).Modesty is a trait highly valued in China, but it won’t be of much help here if you want to survive and succeed in a good American graduate program.1.To compete with American students it’s very important to.A.be quite confident B.be polite and friendlyC.have more discussions with them D.understand what they think about2.A professor will have the worst opinion of a student who .A.gives a silly or simple answerB.tries to seize any chance to speak in classC.shows no interest in the courseD.is considered to have no opinion of his own3.The author is most likely to feel embarrassed if .A.he asks a student to repeat what he has saidB.the students bargain with himC.he pretends to know what he doesn’tD.he has to give a speech4.We learn from the second paragraph that .A.we should also remain modest in AmericaB.modesty doesn’t help you much in AmericaC.Americans also like modest peopleD.modesty can help you through an American graduate program5.The passage is mainly developed by .A.providing examplesB.making comparisonsC.giving different figuresD.telling personal experiences【参考答案】1---5、ADCBD2022高考英语二轮:(精选)阅读理解训练(2)及答案AWhen Paul was a boy growing up in Utah, he happened to live near a copper smelter (炼铜厂), and the chemicals that poured out had made a wasteland out of what used to be a beautiful forest. One day a young visitor looked at this wasteland and called it an awful area. Paul knocked him down. From then on, something happened inside him. Years later Paul was back in the area, and he went to the smelter office. He asked if they had any plans or if they would let him try to bring the trees back. The answer from that big industry was “No”.Paul then went to college to study the science of plants. Unfortunately, his teachers said there weren’t any birds or squirrels to spread the seeds. It would be a waste of his life to try to do it. Everyone knew that, he was told. Even if he was knowledgeable as he had expected, he wouldn’t get his idea accepted.Paul later got married but his dream would not die. And then one night he did what he could with what he had. As Samuel Johnson wrote, “It is common to overlook what is near by keeping the eye fixed on something remote.Attainable good is often ignored by minds busied in wide ranges.” Under the cover of darkness, he went secretly into the wasteland and started planting. And every week, he made his secret journey into the wasteland and planted trees and grass. For fifteen years he did this against the plain common sense. Slowly rabbits appeared. Later, as there was legal pressure to clean up the environment, the company actually hired Paul to do what he was already doing. Now the place is fourteen thousand acres of trees and grass and bushes, and Paul has received almost every environmental award Utah has. It took him until his hair turned white, but he managed to keep that impossible vow (誓言) he made to himself as a child.21.When Paul was a boy, _______.A. he had decided never to leave his hometownB. the economy of Utah depended wholly on the copper smelterC. he hit a young visitor because of his comments on the wastelandD. he stopped the copper smelter polluting the area22.Paul went to college to study the science of plants, because _______.A. he wanted to find out the best way to save the area himselfB. he was interested in planting trees since he was youngC. he wanted to get more knowledgeable people to help himD. he thought his knowledge would make his advice more convincing23.What does the underlined phrase “the plain common sense” probably mean?A. It was impossible for trees to grow on the wasteland.B. His normal work and life would be greatly affected.C. No one would like to join him in the efforts.D. He had to keep everything he did secret.24.The company hired Paul to plant trees and grass because_______.A. they realized the importance of environmental protectionB. what Paul was doing moved themC. Paul persuaded them to help himD. they had legal pressure参考答案A篇21-24 CDADBMusic died here last spring, or rather, it was killed by members of the school committee who ignored the importance of music and drama as part of the high-school curriculum (课程). The committee decided that teaching students how to take a standardized test is more important than a curriculum in which students can explore their interests in the arts as well as academics. Because the school system is running out of funding, it needs to make sure that students pass the test or even more money will be lost. If students fail the state standardized test,it is not the fault of drama and music classes—they are failing because the “academic” classes are not sufficient (充分的).It is painful to think of how many students will be discouraged from singing, acting, and playing instruments because school programs are no longer offered. Many families cannot afford private music lessons, and many potential musicians and artists may not find their calling if they are not exposed to it in school. The fact that the school committee thinks the arts are not worth the investment will certainly make some students believe the arts are not worth their time or support and the cycle will continue.Teaching for a test does not shape students into complete, well-rounded people. It blocks the natural sense to create and express feelings through art—there is more to life than the analytical thinking that math and English provide. What happens after a test? Sure, a student might graduate, but they will have limited knowledge—certainly not a good preparation for the real world.25. Music and drama are not included in the high school curriculum mainly because ________.A. the school committee pays no attention to themB. the school is afraid of losing financial supportC. the students are not interested in both of themD. the state standardized test is more important26. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. The sufficiency of the classes determines students’ performance in the mastery test.B. Quite a few students are discouraged from learning music and art in today’s school system.C. Students can be musicians and artists only if they can afford private music lessons.D. The school committee completely influences students’attitude towards the arts.27. We can learn that music and art can ________.A. motivate students in creativity and expressionB. make students round-shaped people in futureC. provide students with analytical thinkingD. prevent students graduation from high school28. The best title of the passage can be ________.A. Who killed music and drama?B. Can curriculum go without music?C. Why is music so important?D. How to prepare for the real world?参考答案B篇25-28 BBABCFor more than 40 years, scientists have sought to learn how well human beings can adapt to long periods in space. The International Space Station continues to provide valuable knowledge about spaceflight. But an earlier space station, Skylab, helped make the current space project possible.Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield sang aboard the International Space Station on May 12, 2021. His music video has become extremely popular. The astronaut played his own version of David Bowie’s song Space Oddity. He performed while floating weightlessly, with images of planet earth and space appearing in the window behind him.Chris Hadfield recently returned home after nearly five months on the space station. For him, the long flight produced a hit video on YouTube and no major physical problems. But 40 years ago, scientists did not know how humans would react to long-term spaceflight. To find out, NASA, the American space agency, launched Skylab in May, 1973. Over nearly a year, three teams of astronauts visited Skylab for stays of between 28 to 84 days. They learned how people react to extended periods in space.Gerald C arr commanded Skylab 4. He spoke at a NASA event marking the 40th anniversary of Skylab’s launch. He said that the loss of the body’s muscle mass was a main concern. Astronauts on Skylab used exercise equipment to stay strong. The astronauts spent their workdays carrying out experiments, including biomedical (生物医学的) research.Marshall Porterfield is the director of NASA’s Space Life and Physical Sciences Division. He says the Skylab astronauts’ understanding of their own ability to deal with long-term spaceflight continues to help current astronauts. NASA says the next step for life away from Earth is a year-long space station mission, set for 2021.29. Why was Chris Hadfield’s song so special?A. It was performed in space.B. It was created by an astronaut.C. It was a very familiar song.D. It was first sung by a famous singer.30. Which of the following best describes the physical condition of Chris Hadfield after his return?A. Worse.B. Better.C. Normal.D. Weaker.31. For what purpose did NASA launch Skylab?A. To research on whether human beings could stay in space.B. To gather up information on setting up a space station.C. To study the changes in the body when staying long in space.D. To find out the possibility of doing experiments in space.32. What can we learn from the last paragraph?A. Skylab is still in use to explore the space.B. The research results on Skylab are still valuable.C. Skylab is more advanced than the International Space Station.D. The Skylab astronauts made great contributions to biomedical research.参考答案C篇29-32 ACCBDSuppose you are thinking about attending college in the United States, but perhaps you might not be ready for a university with a four-year program. About 88,000 international students have found solution. They are attending U.S. community colleges. Such colleges are sometimes called junior colleges. They offer two years of education above the secondary or high school level.Community college students can choose from subjects like medical assistance, computer science or law. At the end of their study program, they receive a document of completion, called a certificate. Some students work toward an associate degree in traditional academic subjects like science or history. After getting it, the students can move on to a four-year college or university. They may have only two years of study left before they receive a bach elor’s degree. Many educational experts agree that saving money is the major reason to consider a community college. The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) says that a public two-year college costs 3,000 dollar a year on average. That is true if the student lives in the same state as the school. A student at a four-year public college maypay 8,500 dollars a year for classes and user fees. That does not include books and other materials. Some international students may need more preparation in English before entering a community college in the United States. For example, Istrif Montgomery came to the U.S. from Kosovo in 2006. First, he worked to improve his English at Montgomery College for a year. Then for the next two years, he attended classes in basic subjects in a community college. The international students at two-year colleges need to find a place to live. Most community colleges do not provide student housing on their grounds. But Mr Montgomery had a home nearby. He was able to ride the bicycle, and he was able to walk if he wanted. In fact, most community college students live within five to ten miles off the college.33. What’s the biggest advantage of a community college?A. The classes are free of charge.B. The students can save much time.C. The students can save a lot of money.D. It is convenient for students to live in the college.34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A. Mr Montgomery usually goes to school on foot.B. Most students i n community colleges don’t live far away.C. 8,500 dollars covers all the cost of a four-year public college.D. International students often attend a community college directly.35. What’s the main purpose of the passage?A. To encourage students to study abroad.B. To tell the international students how to save money.C. To tell us it’s a good choice to study in public colleges.D. To give some information about community colleges.参考答案D篇33-35 CBD。

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项.Once there was a prisoner who was jailed in a dark prison which he thought was a great fortress(堡垒). The cell was dark and wet. There was a tiny window with bars on it. The rest of the cell was so dark that he could not see the other three walls。
The only wall he could make out was the wall with the window in it. The only light the room received was from this window. Once in a while the prisoner would manage to climb up to the window and look out on the world outside。
If he stretched and looked, he could see a little bit of the life-giving sun out there。
For the first five years in that prison the prisoner stayed in the tiny place of light thrown in through the window. He never tried to go past the edge of the little square of light。

2022高考英语二轮阅读理解讲与练(解析)-网络的发展与问题(2)·专项训练APALO ALTO, Calif.--A handful of enterprising teens have a message for parents and the media: the Net is not all MySpace or Facebook horror stories. In the crowd here at the "Next Generation Tech: Tech Plugged" conference, some teens are talking up their Web start-ups and technology inventions, a sign that--like the average cell phone user--the profile of a tech entrepreneur(企业家) is getting younger and younger.Ben Casnocha, for example, kicked off SD Forum's half-day event at Hewlett-Packard by talking about how he started an e-government software company at age 14. A San Francisco Bay Area resident, he got the idea from a sixth-grade class assignment in which he helped to clean up the dirty seats at the 49ers football stadium. With virtually no way to complain about the condition of the seats, he set out to create a complaint-and-resolution Web site. What ultimately(最后地)resulted from the project was Comcate, a Web-based software company for public agencies to handle customer service. Not skipping a beat, his dad asked back: "Why aren't your grades better?"1. By Rich Ezzo. It took only about an hour to read. When I first received a copy, I thought it was a Get Rich Quick type of publication. Nothing is wrong with Get Rich Quick, but my mind just doesn’t chase after dreams of wealth. I think that if God ever wants me to be rich, he knows where to find my purse. When I began reading When Money Talks, Listen!,I was overjoyed to find that Rich Ezzo isn’t money hungry either. He, too, is hungry far more important than money.Since I love this e-book so much, why wait a week to write the review? Simple. I wanted to see if the effect it had on me was a keeper. After reading the last word of the e-book, I totally agreed with the subtitle which promised to forever change the way we thought about money. I had so many thoughts running around my mind that I had to install(安装) a stoplight to stop some while others made their way into the picture, then I yielded(让路) them as a few ones arrived in town. I had a mental traffic jam, which only goes to show how slow the traffic usually is.It has been a week and the effect is the same. I truly do look at money differently and have even done a few things differently this week. This is an e-book you’ll want to read, I promise. I often recommend books to my daughter, and this is one that I didn’t just “suggest”---I left it open at the bottom of the computer and told each one, “Read it, you’ll love it.”I would never point someone in a direction I wouldn’t go myself. I urge you to visit the author’s website, Myster Money, and to download the e-book. You won’t regret it.41. According to the passage, a Get Rich Quick type of publication ______.A. is what the author really cares forB. deals with how to make moneyC. is also an e-book written by Rich EzzoD. is more popular than e-books42.The author didn't write the review as soon as he finished reading the bookbecause________.A. he was too excited to write anythingB. he was not sure whether he did wellC. he had to wait for Rich Ezzo's permissionD. he wondered if the book would have long influence on him43. By saying the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4, the author probably_________.A. shows that the book brought him many new thoughtsB. shows how bad the traffic is in townC. describes the difficulty in understanding the bookD. explains it's hard to change one's attitude to money44. Which of the following is supported by the passage?A. The author had known Rich Ezzo before.B. The author hasn't dreamed of getting rich immediately.C. The author always prefers e-books to paper books.D. The author likes Get Rich Quick-type of publications.B“Linda, if beating yourself up were an Olympic sport, you’d win a gold medal!”Annabel, my close friend, stunned me with that frank observation after I told her how I had mishandled a situation with a student in a third-grade class where I was substituting. “I should never have let him go to the boy’s room without a pass! It was my fault he got into trouble with the hall monitor! I’m so stupid!”My friend burst out laughing, and then made her “Olympic” comment. After a brief period of reflection I had to admit that she was right. I did put myself down an awful lot. Why, just during the previous day I had called myself “a slob” for having some papers spread out on my desk, “ugly” when I left the house without makeup and “an idiot” when I left the house for an emergency substitute job without my emergency lesson plan.In a more reflective tone, Annabel said, “I once took a workshop at church where the woman in charge had us list all the mean things we say about ourselves.”“How many did you have on your list?” I asked.“Fifteen,”she confessed. “But then the teacher said, ‘Now turn to the person next to you and say all the items on your list as if you were speaking to that person!’”My jaw dropped. “What did you do?”“Nothing. Nobody did. We all just sat there, until I said, ‘I could never say these things to anyone else!’”“And our teacher replied, ‘Well, if you can’t say them to anyone else, then don’t ever say them to yourself!’”My friend had a point. I would never insult a child of God---and I’m God’s child, too!God, today let me be as kind to myself as I would be to another of Your children.45. What does Annabel mean by the first sentence of the passage?A. The writer is a good athlete.B. The writer scolds herself too much.C. She is encouraging the writer.D. What does the writer mean by the last sentence of the passage?A. She is ready to turn to God for help.B. She will be kind to all children.C. She won’t insult herself as well as others.D. She is willing to be a child of God.CThe rise of the so-called “boomerang ge neration” is revealed in official figures showing that almost one in five graduates in their late 20s now live with their parents.By contrast, only one in eight university graduates had failed to fly the nest by the same age 20 years ago. It also found that grown-up sons are twice as likely as their sisters to still be living with their parents in their late 20s. With nearly a quarter of men approaching 30 still living at home, the findings are bound to lead to claims of a “generation of mummy’s boys”.Young professionals in their late 20s or early 30s have been nicknamed the “boomerang generation” because of the trend toward returning to the family home having initially left to study. Recent research has suggested that young people in Britain are twice as likely to choose to live with their parents in their late 20s than their counterparts elsewhere in Europe.Rising property prices, mounting student debts and the effects of recession on the job market have forced a wave of young people to move back into the family home at an age when they would normally be moving out. But commentators warned that the phenomenon may have more to do with young people facing “dire” prospects than simply a desire to save money. While the proportion of those of university or college age moving out from the family home has continued to rise in the last 20 years, among those in their mid and late 20s the trend has been reversed. Overall 1.7 million people aged from 22 to 29 now share a roof with their parents, including more than 760,000 in their late 20s. In 1988, 22.7 per cent of men aged 25 to 29 were still living with their parents but last year the proportion was 24.5 per cent.49. What is the main idea of the passage?A. The economic crisis has shown its effect on the young generation.B. More young professionals are returning home to live.C. British parents are suffering more loads from their grown-up children.D. Britain is suffering more than any other country in Europe.50. Which of the following statements is TRUE?A. Male children seem to more independent than females.B. Eighty percent of university graduates were able to live independently twodecades ago.C. The grown-up children choose to live with their parents only to save money.D. More and more children are moving out at university age.51. What does the underlined word “dire” probably mean?A. promising.B. inconvenient.C. very bad.D. hopeful52. The following factors may account for the phenomenon except _____.A. that living prices have risen a lot.B. that it’s difficult to land a job.C. that education has already cost them a lotD. that parents can help them moreDViolin prodigies (神童), I learned, have come in distinct waves from distinct regions. Most of the great performers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries were born and brought up in Russia and Eastern Europe. I asked Isaac Stern, one of the world’s greatest violinists the reason for this phenomenon. “It is very clear,” he told me. “They were all Jews and Jews at the time were severely oppressed and ill-treated in that part of the world. They were not allowed into the professional fields, but they were allowed to achieve excellence on a concert stage.” As a result, every Jewish parent’s dream w as to have a child in the music school because it was a passport to the West.Another element in the emergence of prodigies, I found, is a society that values excellence in a certain field to nurture(培养) talent. Nowadays, the most nurturing societies seem to be in the Far East. “In Japan, a most competitive society, with stronger discipline than ours,” says Isaac St ern, children are ready to test their limits every day in many fields, including music. When Western music came to Japan after World War II, that music not only became part of their daily lives, but it became a discipline as well. The Koreans and Chinese as we know, are just as highly motivated as the Japanese. That’s a good thing, because even prodigies must work hard. Next to hard work, biological inheritance plays an important role in the making of a prodigy. J. S. Bach, for example, was the top of several generations of musicians, and four of his sons had significant careers in music.53. Jewish parents in Eastern Europe longed for their children to attend music school because ________.A. it would allow them access to a better life in the WestB. Jewish children are born with excellent musical talentC. they wanted their children to enter into the professional fieldD. it would enable the family to get better treatment in their own country54. Nurturing societies as mentioned in the passage refer to societies that ________.A. are highly motivated in the education of musicB. treasure talent and provide opportunities for its full developmentC. encourage people to compete with each otherD. promise talented children high positions55. Which of the following contributes to the emergence of musical prodigiesaccording to the passage?A. a natural gift.B. extensive knowledge of music.C. very early training.D. a prejudice-free society.56. Which of the following titles best summarizes the main idea of the passage?A. Jewish Contribution to MusicB. Training of Musicians in the WorldC. Music and SocietyD. The Making of Music ProdigiesEI promised Michael I wouldn’t mention this until the season was over. Now l think it's time.Early last season, I wrote a column about an art of kindness I had seen Jordan do to a disabled child outside the stadium. After it ran,I got a call from a marl in the western suburbs. He said,“I read what you wrote about Jordan.but I thought I should tell you another thing I saw.”Here it comes, I thought. Was the man right? Had Jordan really been talking to those two boys in that poor and dirty .neighborhood?"Not two boys," Jordan said. "But four."And he named them. He said four names. And what did they talk about?"Everything,” Jordan said. "Anything. I’ve asked to see their grades so that I can check to see if they're paying attention to their study. If it turns out that one or two of them may need teaching, I make sure they get it."It's just one more part of Michael Jordan's life one more thing that no one knows about, and one more thing Jordan does fight for. The NBA season is over now, and those boys have their memories. So do J! When the expert reviewers begin to tuna against Jordan as they surely will, I'll think about those boys under the streetlight, waiting for the man they know to come. For someone they can depend on.57. The writer wrote this story about Jordan and his young friends because _______A. he thought highly of Jordan's deedsB. he hated to see Jordan do something badC. he believed it was time to help the disabledD. he felt sure he needn't keep the promise then58. 2022浙江宁波市高考英语二轮:阅读理解精炼(2)答案2022高考英语阅读理解--历史类Elizabeth Mitchell’s new “Liberty’s Torch” is the fascinating story of how the Statue of Liberty came to be. The Statue of Liberty’s rough history is explored in “Liberty’s Torch”.Frederic Auguste Bartholdi is an all-but-forgotten figure in American history. He was, however, responsible for one of the most enduring symbols of the United States: the Statue of Liberty. A Frenchman from Alsace, he designed and built the Statue of Liberty which stood on Bedloe’s Island in New York Harbor. How this statue came to be is the fascinating subject of Elizabeth Michell’s new book “Liberty’s Torch”.The power of Mitchell’s narrative is convincing(令人信服的). We recognize the Statue of Liberty now as a symbol of hope and opportunity for a nation of immigrants. At the time, though, people could not see that-nor did they even imagine that. Instead, the construction of the statue was born of one man’s desire to set up a great monument. For this reason, perhaps, “Liberty’s Torch” relies on Bartholdi as the connecting thread. Bartholdi went to Egypt to make photographic copies of the main monuments. On the boat, Bartholdi met and began a lifelong relationship with Ferdinand de Lesseps, the man who would build the Suez Canal. Maybe it was this friendship, or maybe it was seeing Egypt’s huge monuments, but finally the trip inspired Bartholdi’s dream to create the largest statue ever built. Failure to bring this to completion in Egypt, followed by his exile (流放) from Paris, led Bartholdi to sail to America.By explaining the Statue of Liberty’s hard history and showing Bartholdi’s brave spirit, Mitchell has done a great service.【小题1】It can be inferred from the text that ________.A.American people have never forgotten Frederic August BartholdiB.the Statue of Liberty wasn’t originally regarded as a symbol of hopeC.Bartholdi finished the Suez CanalD.Bartholdi was a famous architect from Egypt.【小题2】What was the main reason for Bartholdi to build the Statue of Liberty?A.To finish his education in the arts.B.To mark his friendship with Ferdinand.C.To create something better than Egyptian monuments.D.To achieve his dream to create the largest statue. 【小题3】What type of writing is the passage?A.A travel guide. Generations have been attracted by this toy that lets children and adults alike create anything and everything. But with over 200 millions sets being sold a year in over 100 countries, the question remains — where did Lego actually come from?Lego was born from the creative mind of Danish carpenter (木匠), Ole Kirk Christiansen, back in the early 1930s. He established a small business in Denmark. He and his team built a variety of household goods like ironing boards along with wooden t oys. The Lego name was adopted in 1934, formed from the Danish words “Leg Godt” or “play well”, which means “I study” or “I put together” in Latin.Christiansen’s company continued to make wooden toys until 1942 when fire struck — the entire Lego factory burned to the ground. Unwilling to give in, the factory was rebuilt and the production line restarted soon after. By 1954, Christiansen’s son, Godtfred, had become the junior managing director of the Lego Group. It was during his conversation with an overseas buyer that he was struck by the idea of a toy system. For over 30 years, the Lego Company made only toys and related goods. Then, in 1968, the company opened its first Legoland in Denmark. 二、观点态度题(2019·北京,C)The problem of robocalls has gotten so bad that many people now refuse to pick up calls from numbers they don’t know.By next year, half of the calls we receive will be scams(欺诈).We are finally waking up to the severity of the problem by supporting and developing a group of tools, apps and approaches intended to prevent scammers from getting through.Unfortunately,it’s too little, too late.By the time these “solutions”(解决方案)become widely available, scammers will have moved onto cleverer means. In the near future,it’s not just going to be the number you see on your screen that will be in doubt.Soon you will also question whether the voice you’re hearing is actually real. That’s because there are a number of powerful voice manipulation(处理) and automation technologies that are about to become widely available for anyone to use.At this year’s I/O Conference,a company showed a new voice technology able to produce such a convincing human-sounding voice that it was able to speak to a receptionist and book a reservation without detection. These developments are likely to make our current problems with robocalls much worse. The reason that robocalls are a headache has less to do with amount than precision.A decade of data breaches(数据侵入) of personal information has led to a situation where scammers can easily learn your mother’s name, and far more.Armed with this knowledge, they’re able to carry out individually targeted campaigns to cheat people. This means, for example, that a scammer could call you from what looks to be a familiar number and talk to you using a voice that sounds exactly like your bank teller’s,tricking you into “confirming” your address, mother’s name, and cardnumber.Scammers follow money,so companies will be the worst hit.A lot of business is still done over the phone, and much of it is based on trust and existing relationships.V oice manipulation technologies may weaken that gradually. We need to deal with the insecure nature of our telecom networks.Phone carriers and consumers need to work together to find ways of determining and communicating what is real. That might mean either developing a uniform way to mark videos and images, showing when and who they were made by,or abandoning phone calls altogether and moving towards data-based communications—using apps like FaceTime or WhatsApp,which can be tied to your identity.Credibility is hard to earn but easy to lose, and the problem is only going to get harder from here on out.语篇解读随着科技的发展,诈骗手段越来越多样,骚扰电话给人们带来了危害。

Ask someone what they have done to help the environment re cently and they will almost certainly mention recycling. Recycli ng in the home is very important of course. However, being fo rced to recycle often means we already have more material th an we need. We are dealing with the results of that over-consumption in the greenest way possible, but it would be far better if we did not need to bring so much material home in th e first place. The total amount of packaging increased by 12% between 19 99 and 2005. It now makes up a third of a typical household’s waste in the . In many supermarkets nowadays food items are packaged twice with plastic and cardboard.Too much packaging is doing serious damage to the environ ment. The , for example, is running out of areas for burying thi s unnecessary waste. If such packaging is burnt, it gives off gr eenhouse gases which go on to cause the greenhouse effect. Recycling helps, but the process itself uses energy. The solut ion is not to produce such items in the first place. Food wasteis a serious problem, too. Too many supermarkets encourage customers to buy more than they need. However, a few of th em are coming round to the idea that this cannot continue, en couraging customers to reuse their plastic bags, for example. But this is not just about supermarkets. It is about all of us. W e have learned to associate packaging with quality. We have l earned to think that something unpackaged is of poor quality. This is especially true of food. But it also applies to a wide ran ge of consumer products, which often have far more packagin g than necessary. There are signs of hope. As more of us recycle, we are begin ning to realise just how much unnecessary material we are co llecting. We need to face the wastefulness of our consumer c ulture, but we have a mountain to climb.1. What does the underlined phrase “that over-consumption” refer to?A. Using too much packaging.B. According to the text, recycling .A. helps control the greenhouse effectB. means burning packaging for energyC. is the solution to gas shortageD. leads to a waste of land4. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4?A. Unpackaged products are of bad quality.B. Supermarkets care more about packaging.C. It is improper to judge quality by packaging.D. Other products are better packaged than food.5. What can we learn from the last paragraph?A. Fighting wastefulness is difficult.B. Needless material is mostly recycled.C. The word tycoon is relatively ne w to the English language. It is Chinese in origin but was give n as a title to some Japanese generals. The term was brought to the , in the late nineteenth century, where it eventually was used to refer to magnates who acquired immense fortunes fr om sugar and cattle, coal and oil, rubber and steel, and railroa ds. Some people called these tycoons “capitals of industry” an d praised them for their contributions to wealth and internatio nal reputation. Others criticized them as cruel “robber barons”, who would stop at nothing in pursuit of personal wealth. The early tycoons built successful businesses, often taking ov er smaller companies to eliminate competition. A single comp any that came to control an entire market was called a monop oly. Monopolies made a few families very wealthy, but they al so placed a heavy financial burden on consumers and the eco nomy at large. As the country expanded and railroads linked the East Coast t o the West Coast, local monopolies turned into national corpo rations called trusts. A trust is a group of companies that join t ogether under the control of a board of trustees. Railroad trust s are an excellent example. Railroads were privately owned a nd operated and often monopolized various routes, setting rat es as high as they desired. The financial burden this placed o n passengers and businesses increased when railroads forme d trusts. Farmers, for example, had no choice but to pay, as r ailroads were the only means they could use to get their grain to buyers. Exorbitant (过高的) goods rates put some farmers out of business. There were even accusations that the trusts controlled government itself by buying votes and manipulating elected officials. In 1890 Congress passed the Sherman Antitrust. Act, legislati on aimed at breaking the power of such trusts. The Sherman Antitrust Act focused on two main issues. First of all, it made il legal any effort to interfere with the normal conduct of interstat e trade. It also made it illegal to monopolize any part of busine ss that operates across state lines.Over the next 60 years or so, Congress passed other antitrust laws in an effort to encourage competition and restrict the po wer of larger corporations.25. The Antitrust Act_______________.A. affected only the companies doing business within state lin esB. sought to eliminate monopolies in favor of competitio n in the market-placeC. promoted trade with a large number of nationsD. provides a financial advantage to the buyer26. One might infer from this passage that lower prices _____ ____.A. are more likely to exist in a competitive market economyB. usually can be found only in an economy based on monop oliesC. matter only to people who are poor and living below the po verty levelD. are regulated by the government27. It seems likely that many Americans____________.A. believed that the trusts had little influence over governmentB. expected the wealthy magnates to share money with the p oorC. did little to build up American businessD. were worried that trusts might manipulate the government 参考答案25、B 26—27、ADCAt one time no one could travel on an English road faster than four miles an hour. 2022高考英语二轮:人生百味类阅读理解(2)练习及答案2022高考英语阅读理解--人生百味类A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps; for there is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men.A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change. It is the most patient and cheerful of companions. It does not turn its back upon us in times of adversity or distress. It always receives us with the same kindness; amusing and instructing us in youth, and comforting and consoling us in age.Men often discover their affinity (亲密关系) to each other by the mutual love they have for a book just as two persons sometimes discover a friend by the admiration which both entertain for a third. There is anold proverb, “Love me, love my dog.” But there is more wisdom in this: “Love me, love my book.” The book is a truer and higher bond of union. Men can think, feel, and sympathize with each other through their favorite author. They live in him together, and he in them.A good book is often the best urn(瓮) of a life enshrining the best that life could think out; for the world ofa man’s life is, for the most part, but the world of his thoughts. Thus the best books are treasuries of good words, the golden thoughts, which, if remembered and cherished, become our constant companions andcomforters.Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort.Temples and statues decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed through their author’s minds, ages ago. What was then said and thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed page. The only effects of time have been to filter out the bad products; for nothing in literature can long survive but what is really good.【小题1】A good book may be among the best of friends because_____.A.it changes over the past of timeB.it contains all kinds of knowledgeC.it doesn’t betray us when we are in troubleD.it comforts us in youth and instructs us in age【小题2】“Love me, love my book” in paragraph 3 probably means _______?A.If you love me, you must reading books.B.The book can be a bond between friends.C.I love books as much I love friends.D.If you love the author, you will love his books.【小题3】Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.Time can tell whether a literature is good or bad.B.All books are our constant companions and comforters.C.Temples, statues and books cannot stand the test of time.D.The world of a man’s thoughts is what his life is all about.【小题4】The best title for this passage can be.A.Reading BooksB.A Good BookC.Our Best FriendD.Companionship of Books2022高考英语阅读理解--人生百味类I may not be the wisest person on this planet.but I will tell you a little secret to happiness:Help other,,and live life.It is that simple.Just help a friend study for a test,or volunteer at a nursing home .I learned this after a long, hard search.I was feeling really down because my long4ime friend had died. Then I started a six-week volunteering ata nursing home all day every Saturday. My routine was to serve the meal and clean up.After that,I would wait for the head nurse to tell me what to do.One day I was told to go to Room 117 to make sure the patient was all right. In the room I found a boy ofeight sitting in his bed watching a movie.I was shocked to see a child in this seemingly forgotten nursing home for the old.He was so small and weak that you had to look closely to find him.He motioned for me to sit down.I grabbed his medical chart from which later I found out he had a terminal illness. We started to talk, and I found out that his family rarely visited, and all he did ever7 day was watch TV.I wanted to cry for him,and for my lost friend. As we talked,he had a smile on his face, and I asked him why."The entire two hours I've been here you've never lost that smile. With this horrible disease, how do you still manage to stay happy?"He thought for a moment, and then said that too many people are dead even before they die. They walk around feeling that God has cursed (诅咒) them and that they have nothing to live for.The boy said that he would not be like that.He wakes every morning thankful to see another sunrise. He keeps his window open so that he can smell the flowers and feel the heat of the sun.He also said that he has hope."Too many people haven't seen much of that around here," he said," Life is full of hope and we need to live life before it is gone."I don’t know what happened to him.I assume he passed away, but his lesson lives on.I now wake up and live each day to the fullest. The key to life is not money or fame, but the lessons we learn from it.【小题1】The nursing home in the passage is mainly for_______A.the elderly B.the homelessC.the disabled D.the abandoned【小题2】The boy stayed happy mainly due to_______.A.wonderful TV programsB.his positive attitudeC.good medical conditionD.others' encouragement【小题3】The writer participated in the volunteering job in order to_______.A.find out the secretB.search for helpC.enrich experiencesD.get out of sadness【小题4】What would be the best title for the passage?A.A Lesson in HopeB.The Life of a Sick BoyC.A Voluntary JobD.The Meaning of Life阅读下列短文, 从给的四个选项(A、B、C和D) 中, 选出最佳选项。

2013高考英语二轮浏览理解(四月)训练(2)及答案I believe that animals possess greater intelligence than most people think. But plants? I've never considered the possibility of plant intelligence. The idea seems absurd.Yet I've had friends argue that plant intelligence might exist. "What are the differences between plants and animals?" they ask, and then they argue about certain species that seem to share the intelligence of both plants and animals.New research suggests that plants communicate via "networks". Plant communication is not a new idea, and cannot indicate that its is a kind of intelligence, but it is still interesting.Recent research from Vidi researcher Josef Stuefer at the Radboud University Nijmegen shows that plants have their own chat systems that they can use to warn each other. Therefore plants are not boring and passive organisms that just stand there waiting to be cut down or eaten up. Many plants form internal communication networks and are able to exchange information networks and are able to exchange information efficiently. Many herbal plants such as strawberries and clovers (三叶草)naturally form networks.Individual plants remain connected with each other for a certain period of time by means of runners (plant stems that growalong the ground and put down roots to form new plants). These connections enable the plants to share information with each other via internal channels. They are therefore very similar to computer networks. But what do plants chat to each other about?Recently Stuefer and his colleagues were the first to prove that clover plants warn each other via the network links if danger is nearby . If one of the plants is attacked by caterpillars (毛虫),the other members of the network are warned via an internal signal. Once warned, the intact (残缺无损的)plants strengthen their chemical and mechanical (机体的)resistance so that they are less attractive to advancing caterpillars. Thanks to this early warning system, the plants can stay one step ahead of their attackers. The research has shown that this significantly limits the damage to the plants.Again, I don't believe this reflects intelligence, but it's is certainly fascinating.17.The author thinks that the plant communication___________..A. is absolutely a new ideaB. is a sign of plant intelligenceC. is related to animal communicationD. is interesting and fascinating18.Which of the following statements about the research is NOT true?A. Most plants have no chat system and are passive organisms.B. Individual plants can also remain connected with each other.C. The communication between clover plants can protect themfrom damage.D. The research is the first to show how clover plants warn each other.19.The author's attitude towards plant intelligence is_______________.A. unconcernedB. doubtfulC. positiveD. hopeful20.What's the best title for the passage?A. Does Plant Communication Really Exist?B. Some Discoveries About Clover PlantC. Does Plant Communication Imply Intelligence?D. A New Study on Plant Communication参考答案 17-20 DABC********************************************结束ASo long as teachers fail to distinguish between teaching and learning, they will continue to undertake to do for children that which only children can do for themselves. Teaching children to read is not passing reading on to them. It is certainly not endless hours spent in activities about reading. Douglas insists that “reading cannot be taught directly and schools should stop trying to do the impossible.”Teaching and learning are two entirely different processes. They differ in kind and function. The function of teaching is to create the conditions and the climate that will make it possible for children to devise the most efficient system for teaching themselves to read. Teaching is also a public activity: It can be seen and observed.Learning to read involves all that each individual does to make sense of the world of printed language. Almost all of it is private, for learning is an occupation of the mind, and that process is not open to public scrutiny. If teacher and learner roles are not interchangeable, what then can be done through teaching that will aid the child in the quest (探求) for knowledge? Smith has one principal rule for all teaching instructions. “Make learning to read e asy, which means making reading a meaningful, enjoyable andfrequent experience for children.”When the roles of teacher and learner are seen for what they are, and when both teacher and learner fulfill them appropriately, then much of the pressure and feeling of failure for both is eliminated. Learning to read is made easier when teachers create an environment where children are given the opportunity to solve the problem of leaning to read by reading.41. The problem with the reading course as mentioned in the first paragraph is that _______.A. it is one of the most difficult school coursesB. students spend endless hours in readingC. reading tasks are assigned with little guidanceD. too much time is spent in teaching about reading42. The teaching of reading will be successful if ________.A. teachers can improve conditions at school for the studentsB. teachers can enable students to develop their own way of readingC. teachers can devise the most efficient system for readingD. teachers can make their teaching activities observable43. The word “scrutiny” in Para.3 most probably means “ ________”A. inquiryB. observationC. controlD. suspicion44. According to the passage, learning to read will no longer be a difficult task when _______.A. children become highly motivatedB. teacher and learner roles are interchangeableC. teaching helps children in the search for knowledgeD. reading enriches children’s experience45. The main idea of the passage is thatA. teachers should do as little as possible in helping students learn to readB. teachers should encourage students to read as widely as possibleC. reading ability is something acquired rather than taughtD. reading is more complicated than generally believed参考答案 41-45DBBAC******************************************************* *结束BThe biggest safety threat facing airlines today may not be a terrorist with a gun, but the man with the portablecomputer in business class. In the last 15 years, pilots have reported well over 100 incidents that could have been caused by electromagnetic interference. The source of this interference remains unconfirmed, but increasingly, experts are pointing the blame at portable electronic devices such as portable computers, radio and cassette players and mobile telephones.RTCA, an organization which advises the aviation(航空) industry, has recommended that all airlines ban such devices from being used during “critical” stages of flight, particularly take-off and landing. Some experts have gone further, calling for a total ban during all flights. Currently, rules on using these devices are left up to individual airlines. And although some airlines prohibit passengers from using such equipment during take-off and landing, most are reluctant to enforce a total ban, given that many passengers want to work during flights. The difficulty is predicting how electromagnetic fields might affect an aircraft’s computers. Experts know that portable devices emit radiation which affects those wavelengths which aircraft use for navigation and communication. But, because they have not been able toreproduce these effects in a laboratory, they have no way of knowing whether the interference might be dangerous or not.The fact that aircraft may be vulnerable (易受损的) to interference raises the risk that terrorists may use radio system in order to damage navigation equipment. As worrying, though, is the passenger who can’t hear the instructions to turn off his radio because the music’s t oo loud.46. The passage is mainly about ________.A. a new regulation for all airlines.B. the defects of electronic crashesC. a possible cause of aircraft crashesD. effective safety measures for air flight47. What is said about the over 100 aircraft incidents in the past 15 years?A. They may have been caused by the damage to the radio systems.B. They may have taken place during take off and landing.C. They were proved to have been caused by the passengers’ portable computers.D. They were suspected to have resulted from electromagnetic interference.48. Few airlines want to impose a total ban on their passengersusing electronic devices because _______.A. they don’t believe there is such a danger as radio interference.B. the harmful effect of electromagnetic interference is yet to be proved.C. most passengers refuse to take a plane which bans the use of radio and cassette players.D. they have other effective safety measures to fall back on.49. Why is it difficult to predict the possible effects of electromagnetic fields on an airplane’s computers?A. Because it is extremely dangerous to conduct such research on an airplane.B. Because it remains a mystery what wavelengths are liable to be interfered with.C. Because research scientists have not been to produce the same effects in labsD. Because experts lack adequate equipment to do such research.50. It can inferred from the passage that the author _________.A. is in favor of prohibiting passengers’ use of electronic devices completelyB. has overestimated the danger of electromagnetic interferenceC. hasn’t formed his own opinion on this problemD. regards it as unreasonable to exercise a total ban during flight参考答案 46-50CDBCA************************************************结束CEveryone gathered around and Paddy read out loud, slowly, his tone growing sadder and sadder. The little headline said: BOXER RECEIVES LIFF SENTENCE.Frank Cleary, aged 26, professional boxer, was today found guilty of the murder of Albert Cumming, aged 32, laborer, last July. The jury (陪审团) reached its decision after only ten minutes, recommending the most severe punishment to the court. It was, said the judge, a simple case. Cumming and Cleary had quarreled violently at the Harbour Hotel on July 23rd and police saw Cleary kicking at the head of the unconscious Cumming. When arrested, Cleary was drunk but clear-thinking.Cleary was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. Asked if he had anything to say, Cleary answered, “Just don'ttell my mother.”“It happened over three years ago,” Paddy said helplessly. No one answered him or moved, for no one knew what to do. “Just don't tell my mother,” said Fee numbly. “And no one did! Oh, God! My poor, poor Frank!”Paddy wiped the tears from his face and said. “Fee , pack your things. We'll go to see him.”She half-rose before sinking back, her eyes in her small white face stared as if dead. “I can't go,”she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. “It would kill him to see me.I know him so well—his pride, his ambition. (The Most Important of All Human Qualities is a Sense of Humor)Biologically, there is only one quality which distinguishes us from animals: the ability to laugh. In a universe which appears to be utterly devoid of humor, we enjoy this supreme luxury. And it is a luxury, for unlike any other bodily process, laughter does not seem to serve a biologically useful purpose. In a divide world, laughter is a unifying force. Human beings oppose each other on a great many issues. Nations may disagree about systems of government and human relations may be plagued by ideological factions and political camps, but we all share the ability to laugh. And laughter, in turn, depends on that most complex and subtle of all human qualities: a sense of humor Certain comic stereotypes have a universal appeal. This can best be seen from the world-wide popularity of Charlie Chaplin’s early films. The little man at odds with society never fails to amuse no matter which country we come from. As that great commentator on human affairs, Dr. Samuel Johnson, once remarked, ‘Men have been wise in very different modes; but they have always laughed in the same way.’A sense of humor may take various forms and laughter may be anything from a refined tingle to an earth quaking roar, but the effect is always the same. Humor helps us to maintain a correct sense of values. It is the one quality which political fanatics appear to lack. If we can see the funny side, we never make the mistake of taking ourselves too seriously. We are always reminded that tragedy is not really far removed from comedy, so we never get a lop sided view of things. This is one of the chief functions of satire and irony. Human pain and suffering are so grim; we hover so often on the brink of war; political realities are usually enough to plunge us into total despair. In such circumstances, cartoons and satirical accounts of somber political events redress the balance. They take the wind out of pompous and arrogant politicians who have lost their sense of proportion. They enable us to see that many of our most profound actions are merely comic or absurd. We laugh when a great satirist like Swift writes about war in Gulliver’s Travels. The Lilliputians and their neighbors attack each other because they can’t agree which end to break an egg. We laugh because we meant to laugh; but we are meant to weep too. It is too powerful a weapon to be allowed to flourish. The sense of humor must be singled out a s man’s most important quality because it is associated with laughter. And laughter, in turn, is associated with happiness. Courage, determination, initiative – these are qualities we share with other forms of life. But the sense of humor is uniquely human. If happiness is one of the great goals of life, then it is the sense of humor that provides the key.1.The most important of all human qualities is[A] a sense of humor.A sense of satire.[C] A sense of laughter.[D] A sense of history.2.The author m entions about Charlie Chaplin’s early films because[A] they can amuse people.Human beings are different from animals.[C] They show that certain comic stereotypes have a universal appeal.[D] They show that people have the same ability to laugh.3.One of the chief functions of irony and satire is[A] to show absurdity of actions.to redress balance.[C] to take the wind out of politicians.[D] to show too much grimness in the world.4.What do we learn from the sentence ‘it is too powerful a weapon to be allowed to flourish in totalitarian regimes?’[A] It can reveal the truth of political events with satire. It can arouse people to riot.[C] It shows tragedy and comedy are related.[D] It can make people laugh.5.Who is Swift?[A] A novelist.A poet.[C] A dramatist.[D] A essayist.Vocabulary1.devoid 没有,缺乏2.plague n.
Last week, we explained that the planet Mars has passed “opposition. ”It passed a point opposite the Sun. This week, we tell about the planet’s surprising motion(运动)among the stars. For thousands of years, people have recognized that planets travel among the stars. The planets generally follow the path taken by the Sun through the sky. The Sun’s path is called the ecliptic. The groups of stars along the ecliptic are called the Zodiac. The motion of the planets can be confusing at times. Everyone knows the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But this is caused by the turning motion of the Earth. Planets generally move from west to east. However, Mars will appear to move backward for about two months this year. This happens because the Earth is overtaking Mars on its way around the Sun. Mars began its backward, or westward, motion on May 11th, It will start moving eastward again on July 19th.Mars’ apparent motion has been a myste ry to astronomers for hundreds of years. Most early theories of the solar system argued that the Sun and planets turned around the Earth. But the sudden westward motion of Mars presented a problem. Why would Mars move west for two months when it nears “opposition”?In 1543, a Polish church worker named Nicolas Copernicus published a different theory. His theory said the Earth and planets moved around the Sun in perfectly circular orbits. Copernicus’ theory was simpler. But his Sun –centered system still did not explain the observed motion of Mars very well. Finally, a German mathematician named Johannes Kepler published a complete theory of the motion of the planets in 1619. He had carefully studied the motion of Mars for many years.Johannes Kepler discovered that the planets do not move in circular orbits around the sun. Instead, they travel in flattened orbits called ellipses. Mars’ elliptical orbit is the cause of its unusual brightening this year and its apparent large size.During the next several weeks, you can see for yourself why the mysterious motionof Mars has caused so many people to wonder.63. From the passage we can learn that .A. the sun and planets generally travel westwardB. Kepler studied the orbit of the planets in 1619C. C opernicus’ theory well explained the motion of MarsD. the Earth’s turning motion causes the sun to rise in the east64. On July 19th Mars .A. will pass the “opposition”B. appears to change its direction againC. will begin to move westwardD. appears to change its orbit again65. Why does Mars appear to be bigger and brighter when it passes “opposition”?A. It is overtaking the earth.B. It follows the path of the sun.C. It moves in an elliptical orbit.D. It travels in a circular orbit.66. What is the best title for the passage?A. The Recent Research into MarsB. The Surprising Motion of MarsC. The Great Discovery on MarsD. The Wonderful Mystery of Marsmotion of the planets in 1619. Kepler在1619年出版了行星运动的完全理论” 可知,他的研究应该是在1619年之前,B错误;根据第六段最后一句“But his Sun –centered system still did not explain the observed motion of Mars very well.”可知,C错误;根据第三段第二、三句“Everyone knows the Sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But this is caused by the turning motion of the Earth.”可知D正确。

陕西延安中学2016高考英语阅读理解二轮系列(1)答案阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A.B.C和D项中,选出最佳选项。
Mass transportation revised the social and economic fabric of the American city in three fundamental ways. It catalyzed physical expansion, it sorted out people and land uses, and it accelerated the inherent instability of urban life. By opening vast areas of unoccupied land for residential expansion, the omnibuses, horse railways, commuter trains, and electric trolleys pulled settled regions outward two to four times more distant form city centers than they were in the premodern era. In 1850, for example, the borders of Boston lay scarcely two miles from the old business district; by the turn of the century the radius extended ten miles. Now those who could afford it could live far removed from the old city center and still commute there for work, shopping, and entertainment. The new accessibility of land around the periphery of almost every major city sparked an explosion of real estate development and fueled what we now know as urban sprawl. Between 1890 and 1920, for example, some 250,000 new residential lots were recorded within the borders of Chicago, most of them located in outlying areas. Over the same period, another 550,000 were plotted outside the city limits but within the metropolitan area. Anxious to take advantage of the possibilities of commuting, real estate developers added 800,000 potential building sites to the Chicago region in just thirty years – lots that could have housed five to six million people.Of course, many were never occupied; there was always a huge surplus of subdivided, but vacant, land around Chicago and other cities. These excesses underscore a feature of residential expansion related to the growth of mass transportation: urban sprawl was essentially unplanned. It was carried out by thousands of small investors who paid little heed to coordinated land use or to future land users. Those who purchased and prepared land for residential purposes, particularly land near or outside city borders where transit lines and middle-class inhabitants were anticipated, did so to create demand as much as to respond to it. Chicago is a prime example of this process. Real estate subdivision there proceeded much faster than population growth.1.With which of the following subjects is the passage mainly concerned?[A] Types of mass transportation.Instability of urban life.[C] How supply and demand determine land use.[D] The effect of mass transportation on urban expansion.2.Why does the author mention both Boston and Chicago?[A] To demonstrate positive and negative effects of growth. To exemplify cities with and without mass transportation.[C] To show mass transportation changed many cities.[D] To contrast their rate of growth.3.According to the passage, what was one disadvantage of residential expansion?[A] It was expensive. It happened too slowly.[C] It was unplanned.[D] It created a demand for public transportation.4.The author mentions Chicago in the second paragraph as an example of a city,[A] that is large.that is used as a model for land development.[C] where the development of land exceeded population growth.[D] with an excellent mass transportation system.
”4.C(第二段中以芝加哥城市例子说明)土地开发超过人口增长速度。
”A. 城市大。
B. 用作土地开发的样板。
D. 具有优越的公共的交通系统。
阅读理解In today's throw-away society, dealing with the city's growing mountain of waste is an increasing challenge for the city council(市议会).Recently, Edinburgh is faced with the problem of disposing of(处理)about 250,000 million tons of waste a year. Despite different ways to dispose of much of it in a green manner—largely through encouraging recycling—its aging facilities such as the Powderhall landfill do not have the ability to deal with it.The European Union(EU) has issued a new policy, regulating how such mountains of waste are to be disposed of.The five councils (Edinburgh,East Lothian, West Lothian,Midlothian and Borders) face fines around £18 million a year from 2013 if they don't increase recycling levels and rely less on landfill. With this in mind, the councils got together with the idea of building a large incinerator plant (垃圾焚烧厂)to burn half of the waste produced in their districts. But this plan fell apart after the change of target levels by a new UK government waste policy which required that no more than 25% of the city's waste should be disposed of in this way by 2025.After the plan was abandoned,a private company which already transported millions of tons of the city's waste by train to a landfill site near Dunbar, offered an alternative solution when it suggested opening a huge waste site near Portobello.Since Powderhall is supposed to close in 2015,it seemed necessary for the members of the Edinburgh Council to accept the suggestion. But soon they turned it down—after 700 local objections reached them—because it would have meant hundreds of lorries a day making loud noise through heavily populated areas. That still leaves the council with a problem.By 2013,only 50% of 1995 levels of waste will be allowed to be sent to landfill.Even if recycling targets are met, there will still be a large amount of rubbish to be burnt up.Due to this,Edinburgh and Midlothian councils have now decided to work together to build an incinerator plant as time to find a solution is fast running out.回收利用曾是最绿色的垃圾处理方式。
