究其原因,是对图表小作文相关表达方式掌握不够。

要想从口中说出来,先要在脑中“写”出来。

本文立足于高职高专英语图表小作文的写作分析,在表达方式层面进行汇总和举例,注力求为高职学生口语比赛赛前指导提供有力的知识支撑。

大学英语图表类作文写作特点及技巧分析作者:胡璐来源:《卷宗》2017年第13期摘要:英语图表类写作对英语语言基本功的要求高,对写作者的逻辑推理、综合分析、知识储备等也均有较高要求,本文结合在“全国高职高专英语写作大赛”中获得的一些经验,对英语图表类写作特点及技巧进行分析,希望能对高职高专英语写作教学带来一些启示。

关键词:英语图表写作;写作特点;写作技巧“全国高职高专英语写作大赛”是由教育部高等学校高职高专英语类专业教学指导委员会主办,外语教学与研究出版社协办的国家级英语技能竞赛,自从2010年创办以来,该比赛引起了强烈反响,我校也一直踊跃参加重庆市的选拔赛,并曾取得了重庆市选拨赛一等奖的骄人成绩。

通过几届比赛的历练,我校公共英语教师在培训学生参赛方面也积累了十分丰富的经验,尤其是占比重最大的图表类写作,为高职院校公共英语写作课程改革带来新的思考。

图表类写作分值在该比赛中所占比重最大,为50%,该题型种类多,涉及题材广,写作难度高,对参赛学生提出很高要求。

图表类作文主要分为饼状图、柱状图、曲线图以及图表四大类,所涉及的题材涵盖了经济、社会、文化等多方面的内容。

通过在培训过程中的探索、总结,可以发现图表类作文的写作具有以下特点:1 规范性与开放性并存几乎所有的图表类作文的题目要求都具有一定的“套路”模式:首先给出一段描述性的题目要求,对该图标进行一个简单介绍,但是一般不会涉及到图表中的数据细节;然后提出要求:首先请描述图表中的重要数据以及其不同或变化,然后阐释该变化的原因,最后根据变化的原因,结合个人观点,得出结论并进行预测。

这一系列的题目要求便是图表类作文的“套路”。

仔细分析题目要求,不难发现,其实根据题目所引导的思路,在整个写作过程中,是遵循规范与表达个性观点共存的:描述图表中的数据及其不同以及变化趋势是遵循规范的表现,在这一部分很难展示出个人观点;但是在第二部分的分析原因以及第三部分的做出总结并分析趋势便体现了该题目的“开放性”,因为就某一现象是智者见智仁者见仁的,是与个人的受教育背景、知识面、认知能力、体悟能力等息息相关的,也正是这两部分真正能够反映写作者的水平,拉开差距。

柱形图(Bar Chart)表示各个个体项目之间的比较,它和线状图一样也有横轴和纵轴,但是横轴除了可以表示时间,也可以表示其他的变量。当柱状图的横轴表示时间时,它可以被称为动态柱状图;当横轴表示其他变量时,它可以被称为静态柱状图。从起点开始,然后按照趋势进行描述,如最开始点、最高点、最低点和最后的数据都不能忽略,可以适当进行一般描述后再对比描述。动态柱状图如果把每根柱子的顶部相连就类似线状图了。而静态柱状图的横轴不是时间而是其他变量。没组柱子代表一个类别,在惊醒自而坐描述前应仔细分清类别,在不同类别之间排出搞、中、低的顺序,再在同一类别中继续分出高、中、低的数据进行描述。
总的来说,无论是线状图、柱状图还是饼状图或者表格,动态图的关键点在于如何去准确而有效地描述横向的趋势和纵向的极值与特殊值(比如交点、拐点、最高点、最低点)。

线状图(Line Chart)又称为坐标图或线性图。线状图可以分为折线图、曲线图和散点图。横轴通常表示ቤተ መጻሕፍቲ ባይዱ间,纵轴表示数据。数据分别通过横轴和纵轴的坐标点进行读取。个别线状图横轴表数据、纵坐标表示时间,需要考生仔细观察角度变化,描述时应该注意概括和介绍起始点、最高点、最低点、交叉点和终结点等关键点且用数据支撑。单曲线没有纵向的对比,只需要横向比较,所以在分析的时候比较简单,按照时间段从起始点至终结点把趋势阐述清楚并加以对比即可。双曲线即两条趋势不一致的曲线,当A曲线的趋势是上升的时候,B曲线基本是下降的,这种情况建议逐条分段描写。
表格是由一个个单元格组成,当它的第一行或第一项表达时间概念时这个表格类似动态线状图、柱状图和饼状图,是动态表(Dynamic table)。当表格的第一行和第一项都不是时间,而是其他变量时,属于静态表格(Static table)。在进行写作描述时要从起点时间的数据说起,之后突出在不同时间段的趋势变化。静态表格描述的关键是掌握正确的分析方法。这种表格一般是第一行表明一类事物,第一列表明另一类事物。有时在横行纵列最后都有总计,如果没有则需要自己计算。从总计着手,先把这些数据按照高、中、低顺序排列并加以说明,再在中间的单元格中找符合同样规律的数据作为例子加以说明,两类事物都按照这样的方式进行描述。

“‘外研社杯’全国英语写作大赛”是由外语教学与研究出版社联合教育部高等学校大学外语教学指导委员会和教育部高等学校英语专业教学指导分委员会共同举办的赛事。该赛事强调学生对英语写作知识的灵活运用,促进教学模式的创新,帮助老师对传统教学理念的创新。大赛面向高校在校大学生,对学生的图表信息提取、内容逻辑分析、人文思辨能力及相关认知能力进行考查,通过比赛引导全国高职高专英语写作教学的改革与发展。大赛分为英语专业组:商务英语、旅游英语、英语教育、应用英语专业的学生。公共英语组:其它专业的学生。复赛为现场写作,由各省(市、自治区)复赛组委会指定承办单位组织实施,复赛赛题:公共英语组为两道题,时间为120分钟。Part I:看文字信息写作,至少200词,40分。Part II:看图表信息写作,至少300词,60分。2018年11月指导学生参加了第九届‘外研社杯’全国英语写作大赛”—湖南省赛区的复赛并获得特等奖。本文分享看图表信息环节写作的一些心得体会,希望对往后参加的老师和学生有所帮助。
饼状图(Pie Chart)也称圆形图或圆面分割图。饼状图相比线状图和柱状图更形象和直观,可以用来表示分母与分子之间的百分比关系。整个图表示总量分母单位1,饼状也会出现数值表,两者结合可以把各分量表示得更加准确、清楚。当只有一个饼状图时,可当作静态饼状图(Static Pie Chart)。当有两个或两个以上的饼状图时,如果是以时间为线索,则成为动态饼状图(Dynamic Pie Charts)。动态饼状图类似于线状图和动态柱状图,是它们的另一种表达形式。在进行写作描述时,以第一个图(往往是第一个时间的数据)为基础,排出各项中的高、中、低顺序,再接着描述这些项的变化趋势。
