• Known as China's national opera, Peking Opera, which originated in the late 18th century, is a synthesis of music, dance, art and acrobatics. It is the most influential and representative of all operas in China.

Laosheng, Xiaosheng,Wusheng, Hongsheng and Wawasheng (characters of children).
• Laosheng is also
known as Xusheng, meaning bearded, as they are middleaged or elderly men.
Introduction of Peking Opera
During the reign of the Qianlong emperor in the Qing dynasty, Qianlong had a interest in the local opera .In1790 ,to celebrate his eightieth birthday,he summoned opera troupes from different places to perform for him in Beijing.
Jing
• The Jing (painted-face role) means all kinds of painted-faces and acts as the male role that has a particular personality or appearance
• The Chou (comic face which means clown) always acts as a wise and funny folk

Types of Facial Make-up in Beijing Opera
• As mentioned earlier, specific types of facial make-up in Beijing Opera are put on the actors' faces to symbolize the personalities, characteristics, and fates of the roles.
