Some people think watching TV is bad for children, while others think that watching TV has more beneficial effects on children.Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.Watching TV is one of the most important children’s leisure activities. However, whether it brings more harm than good has caused heated debate. My view is that too much time spent on it surely has negative impacts on kids and parents should filter out the inappropriate programs and channels for them. With the rapid development of science and technology, TV shows areto get addicted to them. When children spend more time sitting in front of a screen, they are isolated fromthe real world. They don’th ave enough time to socialize, toengage inoutdoor activities whichare crucial for their physical growth. Also, their eyesight will be weakened by staring at the screen for too long. Moreover, questionable content onTV will have negative effects onchildrensince they are impressionable. The fact that many developing countries including China lack TV program rating system means that children are more easily exposed to indecent TV scenes. So, TV is not always a good one inthe sense that parentsreally cannot control what comes on the screen.Of course, there are many educational and inspirational TV shows, such as Disney cartoons which enable kids to have fun in learning process, facilitate their intellectual development and help children learn caring, sharing, courage and other virtues from an early age. These benefits of TV on children’s education cannot be denied. In sum, spending long time watching TV is harmful and parents should either follow TV rating guideline or carefully choose the programs for children.Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.A child ’s educationhas never beenabout learninginformationand basicskills only. It has always included teachingthe next generationhow to be goodmembers of society. Therefore, this cannot be the responsibility of the parents alone. In order to be a good member of any society the individual must respect and obey the rules of their community and share their values. Educatingchildrentounderstand the need to obey rules and respect others always begins in the home and is widely thought to be the responsibility of parents. They will certainly be the first to help children learn what is important in life, how they are expected tobehave and what role they will play in their world. However, learning to understand and share the value system of a whole society cannot be achieved just in the home. Once a child goes to school, they are entering a wider community where teachers and peers will have just as much influence as their parents do at home. At school, children will experience working andlivingwithpeoplefroma wholevariety of backgrounds fromthewider society. This experience should teach them how to co-operate with each other and how to contribute to the life of their community. But to be a valuable member of any community is not like learninga simpleskill. It is something that an individual goes on learning throughout life and is the responsibility of every member of a society to take responsibility for helpingtheyounger generation to become active and able members of that society.。

IELTS Writing Task 2: 'positive or negative' essayHere's my full essay for the 'positive or negative development' question that we've been looking at over the last few weeks. In some countries, many more people are choosing to live alone nowadays than in the past. Do you think this is a positive or negative development? In recent years it has become far more normal for people to live alone, particularly in large cities in the developed world. In my opinion, this trend is having both positive and negative consequences in equal measure. The rise in one-person households can be seen as positive for both personal and broader economic reasons. On an individual level, people who choose to live alone may become more independent and self-reliant than those who live with family members. A young adult who lives alone, for example, will need to learn to cook, clean, pay bills and manage his or her budget, all of which are valuable life skills. From aneconomic perspective, the trend towards living alone will result in greater demand for housing. This is likely to benefit the construction industry, estate agents and a whole host of other companies that rely on homeowners to buy their products or services. However, the personal and economic arguments given above can be considered from the opposite angle. Firstly, rather than the positive feeling of increased independence, people who live alone may experience feelings of loneliness, isolation and worry. They miss out on the emotional support and daily conversation that family or flat mates can provide, and they must bear the weight of all household bills and responsibilities. Secondly, from the financial point of view, a rise in demand for housing is likely to push up property prices and rents. While this may benefit some businesses, the general population, including those who live alone, will be faced with rising living costs. In conclusion, the increase in one-person households will have both beneficial and detrimental effects on individuals and on the economy. Describe an interesting place you have visited(描述一个你去过的有趣的地方)Well, I gotta tell you about this amazing place I once visited Bangkok, the capital city of Thailand. You know, as soon as I landed there, it was like stepping into a whole new world. The first thing that hit me was the hustle and bustle. There were people everywhere, but not in a bad way. It was just so full of life. The streets were filled with these super colorful markets. I mean, they had everything from the most beautiful hand made handicrafts that looked like they were straight out of a fairytale, to the yummiest street foodthat smelled so good it could make your mouth water just walking past. And the temples! Oh my god. They were just spectacular. One temple I visited, I think it was Wat Arun, had these huge, pointy spires that were all covered in these little bits of shiny glass or porcelain. When the sun hit them, it was like the whole temple was on fire. It was that dazzling.Another really cool thing was the tuk tuks. They're like these three wheeled taxis that zip around the city like crazy. Riding in one was like being on a rollercoaster. You feel the wind in your hair, and the driver is usually blasting some really loud Thai pop music. It was a wild ride every time.I also met some really friendly locals. They always had a big smile on their face, and even though my Thai was basically non existent, we could still communicate with hand gestures and a few broken English words. They made me feel really welcome in their city. All in all, Bangkok is a place that has it all amazing sights, delicious food, exciting rides, and super friendly people. It's just a place that once you visit, you'll never forget.。

Children who grow up in families which are short of money are better prepared to dealwith the problems of adult life than children who are brought up by wealthy parents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?范文:Some feel that the children of low income families are better equippedto deal with difficulties posed by the 'real world' when they grow up and they also believe the privileged children of wealthy families are less fit to deal with these difficulties . The implications and veracity of this argument seem self-evident, but in fact require closer examination.( 58words )点评:1+ 1 ' 模式,最后1 句为主题句。

特别是最后半句:but in fact require closer examination ,感觉是在抛砖引玉。

The popular wisdom is that children of poorer familieslearn early on the value of a buck, and are thus naturallybetter suited to stretching money when times get tough in adulthood. Inversely, the children of wealthy families, thoseborn with a silver spoon in their mouths, are believed to be completely ignorant of the value of money, having had everything provided for them in their youth and oftentimes erroneously expecting the same situation in adulthood. They are believed to be prone to overspending and financialirresponsibility. This belief, though logical, overlooks one key point which is , of course, education.

范⽂: Some people believe that we should not help people in other countries aslong as there are problems in our own society. I disagree with this view becauseI believe that we should try to help as many people as possible. On the one hand, I accept that it is important to help our neighbours andfellow citizens. In most communities there are people who are impoverished ordisadvantaged in some way. It is possible to find homeless people, for example,in even the wealthiest of cities, and for those who are concerned about thisproblem, there are usually opportunities to volunteer time or give money tosupport these people. In the UK, people can help in a variety of ways, fromdonating clothing to serving free food in a soup kitchen. As the problems are onour doorstep, and there are obvious ways to help, I can understand why somepeople feel that we should prioritise local charity. At the same time, I believe that we have an obligation to help those wholive beyond our national borders. In some countries the problems that peopleface are much more serious than those in our own communities, and it is ofteneven easier to help. For example, when children are dying from curable diseasesin African countries, governments and individuals in richer countries can savelives simply by paying for vaccines that already exist. A small donation to aninternational charity might have a much greater impact than helping in our localarea. In conclusion, it is true that we cannot help everyone, but in my opinionnational boundaries should not stop us from helping those who are in need. (280 words, band 9)。

It is no doubt true that the majority of people would like to be happy in their lives. While the personalnature of happiness makes it difficult to describe, there do seem to be some common needs that we all share with regard to experiencing or achieving happiness.Happiness is difficult to define because it means something different to each individual person. Nobody can fully understand or experience another person's feelings, and we all have our own particular passions from which we take pleasure. Some people, for example, derive a sense of satisfaction from earning money or achieving success, whereas for others, health and family are much more important. At the same time, a range of other feelings, from excitement to peacefulness, may be associated with the idea of happiness, and the same person may therefore feel happy in a variety of different ways.Although it seems almost impossible to give a precise definition of happiness, most people would agree that there are some basic preconditions to achieving it. Firstly, it is hard for a person to be happy if he or she does not have a safe place to live and enough food to eat. Our basic survival needs must surely be met before we can lead a pleasant life.Secondly, the greatest joy in life is usually found in shared experiences with family and friends, and it is rare to find a person who is content to live in completeisolation. Other key factors could be individual freedom and a sense of purpose in life.In conclusion, happiness is difficult to define because it is particular to each individual, but I believe that our basic needs for shelter, food and company need to be fulfilled before we can experience it.(292 words, band 9)。

Globalization is a declaration of war upon all other cultures. And in culture wars, there is no exemption of civilians, there are no innocent bystanders. Why should it be expected that ancient and rooted civilizations are going to accept this peripheralisation without a struggle? The answer to that is that globalization carries an implicit promise that it will relieve poverty and offer security—perhaps the most ancient of human dreams. Because of the power of global capitalism to create wealth, it is assumed that this priority must sweep aside all other human preoccupations, including all existing institutions, interpretations and searches for meaning in the world. It is disingenuous to assume that economy, society and culture operate in separate spheres. This suggests that, one, exposed to the globalizing imperative, no aspect of social life, customary practice, traditional behaviour will remain the same. There have been, broadly, two principal responses in the world, which we may call the fatalistic and the resistant. It is significant that among the most fatalistic have been the leaders of G-7, Ex-President Clinton said globalization is a fact not a policy choice Tony Blair said it is inevitable and irreversible. It may be considered paradoxical that the leaders of the most dynamic and expanding economies in the world offer such a passive, unchallenging view of what are, after all, human-made arrangements. These are among the richest and most proactive regimes, which can wage endless war on the great abstraction, that is terror, topple regimes and lay down one WTO law for the poor and another for themselves. Is their helplessness in the presence of these mighty economic and cultural powers? There are two aspects to resistance. One is the reassertion of local identities—even if local actually means spread over very large parts of the world. The reclaiming of the local is often focused in the field of culture—music, songs and dance. This suggests an attempt to guarantee it from the effects of economic integration; a kind of cordon sanitaria set up around a dwindlingculture. Some people believe it is possible to get the best of both world—they accept the economic advantages of globalization and seek to maintain something of great value—language, tradition and custom. This is the relatively response. The other has become only too familiar: the violent reaction, the hatred of both economic and cultural globalization which may not merely perceive, but feel in the very core of their cognition, as an inseparable violation of identity. The resentment of many Muslims toward the U.S and Israel, the defensive posturing of Vindu fundamentalism, opposed both to Islam and Christianity, are the most vivid dramatizations of this.

I was walking along one of the main shopping streets in the city centre, when a large window displaying all sorts ofmusical instruments caught my eye. Out of curiosity, I decided to go in and have a look around. The person I ended up speaking to was a shop assistant on the second floor, in the area of the shop dedicated to acoustic guit ars. I hadn’t intended to speak to anyone, but the assistant approached me in a friendly way and asked whether I had any questions.I explained to the assistant that I hadn’t played the guitar for years, but that I wondered what the differences were between the various acoustic guitars on show. He talked to me about the different makes and models, whether they were factory or hand made, the woods and varnishes used, the variation in sound quality, and of course the price range.I found the conversation fascinating because the shop assistant was so knowledgeable. It was obvious that he had a passion for the guitar, and he didn’t mind talking to me even though I had made it clear that I didn’t intend to buy anything. He even picked up and played three or four of the instruments to demonstrate the differences in their sound.。

Well, I'd like to talk about my friend Jack. He's just a one of a kind guy with the most interesting ideas and opinions. We were at a coffee shop one day, and the topic of futuretransportation came up. You know, most people would just talk about self driving cars or faster trains. But Jack, oh my god! He started talkingabout how in the future, we might have teleportation pods in our living rooms. He said that instead of spending hours in traffic or on a plane, we could just step into a pod, type in the destination, and boom! Be there in an instant. And he wasn't just daydreaming. He actually started explaining how it could work based on some crazy quantum physics stuff. I was like, “Jack, are you for real?” But he just grinned and said, “Hey, you never know. Science is full of surprises.”Another time, we were discussing food. Everyone was complaining about how expensive organic food was. Jack, on the other hand, had this wild idea. He said that we should start growing our own food in vertical gardens onthe balconies of our apartments. He said it would not only be cheaper but also much fresher. And then he went on to describe how we could use hydroponics and LED lights to make the plants grow faster and healthier. He even had plans to create a community where people could exchange the extra food they grew from their balconies. When it comes to art, his ideas are just as out there. We went to anart exhibition once, and there was this really abstract painting that mostof us couldn't make heads or tails of. But Jack looked at it and said, “This is like the artist's inner turmoil made visible. It's not just arandom splash of colors. Each color represents an emotion, and the way they blend is like the chaos in his mind.” And he started making up this whole story about the artist's life and what might have inspired him to create that piece. So, Jack is always full of these amazing and off the wall ideas that make you see the world in a completely different way. He's not afraid to think outside the box, and that's what makes him so interesting.

It is a contentious issue whether the minimum legal age for operating motor vehicles should be raised as a means of improving road safety. While some argue that this measure could lead to fewer accidents, others contend that it might not effectively address the root causes of traffic incidents. I largely side with the latter perspective, as I believe that maturity and responsible behavior are more crucial factors than age in ensuring safe driving practices.Firstly, it must be acknowledged that younger drivers are often involved in a higher proportion of accidents due to their relative inexperience and risk-taking tendencies. Raising the legal driving age could theoretically reduce the number of these high-risk drivers on the roads. However, simply increasing the age limit does not guarantee that older drivers will be inherently safer or more responsible. Maturity levels vary significantly among individuals, and some may still lack the judgment or restraint necessary for safe driving, regardless of their age. Moreover, focusing solely on age ignores other critical factors that contribute to traffic accidents. For instance, distracted driving, often linked to the use of mobile phones while behind the wheel, is a significant cause of collisions. This issue transcends age boundaries, and thus, implementing stricter laws against distractions and improving driver education could have a more substantial impact on road safety.Furthermore, it is essential to consider the potential consequences of raising the minimum legal driving age. It could limit opportunities for young people to gain valuable experience at an earlier age, which might result in them becoming safer, more skilled drivers in the long run. Additionally, it could impose challenges on those who rely on vehicles for work or access to essential services, particularly in areas with limited public transportation options. In conclusion, while increasing the minimum legal age for driving might lead to some improvements in road safety, it is not a panacea for the problem. A more comprehensive approach that emphasizes better driver education, stricter enforcement of existing traffic laws, and measures to promote responsible driving behaviors would likelyyield more effective results. Therefore, I maintain that focusing on enhancing the overall quality of driving culture and practices is a more sensible strategy for achieving greater road safety than merely adjusting the age requirements.。

Unlike most countries, the police in the United Kingdom do not normally carry guns. Some people think it leaves the citizens unprotected, while others believe that this practice reduces the overall violence in society. Discuss both views and use your own experience and evidence.Unlike most countries, the police in the United Kingdom do not normally carry guns. Some people think it leaves citizens unprotected, while others believe that this practi c e reduces the overall violence in society. Police having guns however is an issue secondary to criminals having guns.

Because criminals usually have access to guns, police officers need them in order to control crime. If police in the U.K. are able to go without guns and not have crime getting completely out of control then they have already set a fine example that other countries should follow. The fact that they are able to do this is an indication of their ability to control the flow of guns to the general populace and this makes citizenssafer than anything else. To a civilian, taking guns away from criminals is more important than giving them to police. For places that are not able to,or are unwilling to control this availability of guns to criminals, police have no choice. Countries with weak or ineffective gun laws,or countries bordering such countries, like Mexico which has strong gun laws, but virtually no way to prevent them from being smuggled over the border from the U.S.,need a police force that is not only armed, but is armed better than the criminals. This domestic arms race is the fate of any country that does not realize that civilians have no need of being armed and should have no access to weapons whatsoever. The root of the problem is embarrassingly corrupt governments and ineffective half-measures taken to control the circulation of guns, which allows criminals to easily come into possession of guns. Nations around the world should hope to someday reach the point where their police force can afford not to carry guns and still be effective.。

Many people prefer to watch foreign films rather than locally produced films. Why could this be?Should governments give more financial support to local film industries?范文:It is true that foreign films are more popular in many countries than domestically produced films. There could be several reasons why this is the case, and I believe that governments should promote local film-making by subsidising the industry. There are various reasons why many people find foreign films more enjoyable than the films produced in their own countries. Firstly, the established film industries in certain countries have huge budgets for action, special effects and to shoot scenes in spectacular locations. Hollywood blockbusters like ‘Avatar’ or the Jame s Bond films are examples of such productions and the global appeal that they have. Another reason why these big-budget films are so suessful is that they often star the most famous actors and actresses, and they are made by the most aomplished producers and directors. The poor quality, low-budget filmmaking in many countries suffers in parison. In my view, governments should support local film industries financially. In every country, there may betalented amateur film-makers who just need to be given the opportunity to prove themselves. To pete with big-budget productions from overseas, these people need money to pay for film crews, actors and a host of other costs related to producing high-quality films. If governments did help with these costs, they would see an increase in employment in the film industry, ine from film sales, and perhaps even a rise in tourist numbers. New Zealand, for example, has seen an increase in tourism related to the 'Lord of the Rings' films, which were partly funded by government subsidies. In conclusion, I believe that increased financial support could help to raise the quality of locally made films and allow them to pete with the foreign productions that currently dominate the market.(295 words, band 9)。

Children who grow up in families which are short of money are better prepared to deal with the problems of adult life than children who are brought up by wealthy p arents. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some feel that the children of low income families are better equipped to deal with difficulties posed by the …real world‟ when they grow up and they also bel ieve the privileged children of wealthy families are less fit to deal with these difficulties . Th e implications and veracity of this argument seem self-evident, but in fact require cl oser examination. (58words )

特别是最后半句:but in fact require closer examination ,感觉是在抛砖引玉。

The popular wisdom is that children of poorer families learn early on the value of a buck, and are thus naturally better suited to stretching moneywhen times get toug h in adulthood. Inversely, the children of wealthy families, thoseborn with a silver s poon in their mouths, are believed to be completely ignorant of the value of money, having had everything provided for them in their youth and oftentimes erroneously expecting the same situation in adulthood. They are believed to be prone to overs
pending and financial irresponsibility. This belief, though logical, overlooks one key p oint which is , of course, education. (100words)

The basis of this argument is , of course, knowing the value of money, and the ide a that children of the poor know this, and those of the wealthy do not . Who thou gh, is in a better position to teach their children the value of money; someone skill ed in earning and keeping it, the wealthy parent, or someone who can not seem to acquire it, the poor parent? Both wealthy and poor children are equally likely to ac quire an education in money, whether it is formal, or in the school of hard knocks. Conversely, both children are as likely to ignore this education. (101words)。
