指显影、放大作业时的室内照明，必须保持灯泡的亮度、胶片（相纸）接近灯光的距离及照射时间，否则成为招致灰度的原因。
供密合用时，以明亮的黄红，放大用时，以黄绿色为好。
全色片用暗绿色，正色片用深红色，但必须做到使亮点的光度保持在最小限度以内，否则会成为灰度的原因。
平常作胶片显影，应养成在漆黑的情况下工作的习惯。
安全光玻璃Safelihgt glass指暗室灯用的有色滤光片，是将明胶滤光片和散光板夹于玻璃片中而成的。
分为全色片用、溴化银相纸用、氯溴化银相纸用、灯光相纸用等，可以互相换用。
安全胶片Safety film指与用硝基纤维素片基制作的易燃性胶片。

暗室Darkroom又称暗房。
