高二社会热点英语阅读理解25题
高二社会热点英语阅读理解25题1<背景文章>Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the field of healthcare. In recent years, AI has shown great potential in various aspects of medical care. One of the most significant applications of AI in healthcare is in disease diagnosis. AI algorithms can analyze large amounts of medical data, such as medical images and patient records, to detect diseases at an early stage. This can lead to earlier treatment and better patient outcomes.Another area where AI is making a significant impact is in drug discovery. AI can help researchers identify potential drug candidates more quickly and efficiently than traditional methods. By analyzing vast amounts of biological data, AI can predict which compounds are likely to be effective in treating specific diseases. However, the use of AI in healthcare also poses some risks. One concern is the potential for errors in diagnosis or treatment recommendations. If the AI algorithms are not properly trained or validated, they may provide incorrect results. Another risk is the issue of data privacy. As AI systems rely on large amounts of patient data, there is a risk of data breaches and unauthorized access.Despite these risks, the potential benefits of AI in healthcare areenormous. As technology continues to advance, we can expect to see even more innovative applications of AI in the medical field.1. What is one of the significant applications of AI in healthcare?A. Medical education.B. Disease diagnosis.C. Hospital management.D. Patient transportation.答案:B。

拓展阅读原文In the years ahead, AI will raise three big questions for bosses and governments. One is the effect on jobs. Although bosses publicly praise the broad benefits AI will bring very much, their main interest lies in cutting costs. One European bank asked a technology company to find a way of reducing the staff in its operations department from 50,000to 500.A special report has shown that AI-enhanced" tools can help reduce staff in departments such as customer service and human resources by a large amount. The McKinsey Global Institute finds that by 2030 up to 375 million people, or 14% of the global workers in companies or countries, could have their jobs automated away. Bosses will need to decide whether they are prepared to offer and pay for retraining, and whether they will give workers time off for it. Many companies say they are all for workers developing new skills, but not at employers' expense. The second important question is how to protect privacy as AI spreads. The Internet has already made it possible to track people's digital behaviour in extremely small detail.AI will provide even better tools for businesses to monitor consumers and workers, both online and in the physical world. Consumers are sometimes happy to go along with this if it results in personalised services. But AI probably brings privacy violations that are seen as shocking and morally unacceptable. In the wrong hands, useful technology could be against fair and equal treatment. The police around the world will use AI to spot criminals, but may also look on ordinary citizens secretly, in order to discover things or find out information about them. New rules will be needed to ensure agreement on what degree of monitoring is acceptable. The third question is about the effect of AI on competition in business. Today many firms are competing to provide AI-enhanced tools for companies. But a technology company that achieves artificial intelligence could be ahead of its competitors, put others out of business and lessen competition. This is unlikely to happen in the near future, but if it did, it would be of great concern.词汇拓展:①AI-enhanced adj.人工智能增强的②automate vt.使自动化③privacy n.隐私④personalised adj.个性化的⑤violation n.侵犯;违背;妨碍真题训练[全国新高考ⅡI2021 ·D篇] An Australian professor is developing a robot to monitor the health of grazing cattle, a development that could bring big changes to a profession that's relied largely on a low- tech approach for decades but is facing a labor shortage.Salah Sukkarieh, a professor at the University of Sydney, sees robots as necessary given how cattlemen are aging. He is building a four-wheeled robot that will run on solar and electric power. It will use cameras and sensors to monitor the animals. A computer system will analyze the video to determine whether a cow is sick. Radio tags(标签)on the animals will measure temperature changes. The quality of grassland will be tracked by monitoring the shape, color and texture (质地)of grass. That way, cattlemen will know whether they need to move their cattle to another field for nutrition purposes.Machines have largely taken over planting, watering and harvesting crops such as corn and wheat, but the monitoring of cattle has gone through fewer changes. For Texas cattleman Pete Bonds, it's increasingly difficult to find workers interested in watching cattle. But Bonds doesn't believe a robot is right for the job. Years of experience in the industry-and failed attempts to use technology- have convinced him that the best way to check cattle is with a man on a horse. Bonds, who bought his first cattle almost 50 years ago, still has each of his cowboys inspect 300 or 400 cattle daily and look for signs that an animal is getting sick.Other cattlemen see more promise in robots. Michael Kelsey, vice president of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, said a robot could be extremely useful given rising concerns about cattle theft. Cattle tend to be kept in remote places and their value has risen , making them appealing targets.1.What is a problem with the cattle-raising industry?A.Soil pollution.B. Lack of workers.C.Aging machines.D. Low profitability.2. What will Sukkarieh's robot be able to do?A. Monitor the quality of grass.B.Cure the diseased cattle.C. Move cattle to another field.D. Predict weather changes.3. Why does Pete Bonds still hire cowboys to watch cattle?A.He wants to help them earn a living.B.He thinks men can do the job better.C.He is inexperienced in using robots.D. He enjoys the traditional way of life.4.How may robots help with cattle watching according to Michael Kelsey?A. Increase the value of cattle.B. Bring down the cost of labor.C. Make the job more appealing.D. Keep cattle from being stolen.选择性必修四Unit2 Iconic Attractions时文领读主题:人与社会--历史、社会与文化背景导入:我们的地球上大约有190个国家和70亿人口,因此必然有多种不同的文化存在。

2022高考英语星级阶梯阅读练习 二星级(50)
2022高考英语星级阶梯阅读练习二星级(50)(A )After an earthquake or any similar disaster, parents and teachers need to help children overcome the effects of this frightening and sometimes devastating (毁灭性的)experience. Psychologists (心理学家)say that if children go through a disturbing event before the age of ten, they are three times as likely to suffer psychological problems as teenagers. After a disaster children may become easily upset, shy, aggressive , or afraid of wind, rain, noises, or darkness. They may have trouble letting go of their parents and resist going to school or daycare. Some children may even feel guilty thinking that they somehow caused the disaster through their bad behavior. Because of such common reactions, parents and others should begin as soon after the event as possible helping these children. Some suggestions include talking to the children about what happened, letting the children express their own feelings, spending extra time with them doing activities together and reassuring (使放心)them that you love them and won't leave them. For some children expressing themselves through drawing pictures or writing can be useful. Do everything possible to help children get back to a normal routine; however, don't be afraid to "spoil" these children for a while after the disaster. Unit1ScienceFiction拓展阅读素材高中英语人教版选择性
外研新教材必修第三册Unit 1拓展阅读1Good friends are worth fighting for沟通像一缕和煦的阳光,能消除隔阂,拉近彼此的距离。
Conflict is a normal element in any relationship. In whatever case, you have to start from the basic level: How is your communication with your friends? Here are a few questions you can ask yourself: Are you talking behind each other's backs? Are you confronting or criticising each other? Are you focusing on resolving the problem or winning the argument? When resolving conflicts, you need to negotiate. In any negotiation, you are not going to get everything you want. The same goes for your classmates. So, you have to come together to compromise( 妥协). That's what adults do. We compromise. We can't win every single case, especially if we want to weave meaningful and steady relationships. If you have the idea that you should be able to get every single thing that you want, then you might still be stuck in a child's mindset. That's what children do. They want what they want. But that's not how adults should be. Try to analyse your communication with your friends. Are you listening well to them? Are they listening well to you? Start from there, and break the communication down into its parts. See if both parties are on the same page. Communication is supposed to be healthy. It should be a two-way street. You can't have a healthy relationship without having a healthy conflict. When two human beings interact, there are going to be disagreements. That is just how people are. It is part of our design. But, there is a silver lining. From conflicts, stronger bonds can grow. When you can resolve a conflict together, you will learn new things about each other and about the relationship itself. That will bring you closer together as a unit and it will create a bond that is stronger than before. From conflicts, you will know who your true friends are and who are not. Because true friends will stick around even when things get tough. But fake friends will easily get annoyed and you will grow apart as soon as things go south.True friends value a friendship and will fight to preserve it.Notesnegotiate: v. to try to reach an agreement by formal discussionbond: n. a close connection joining two or more peoplepreserve: v. to make something continue without changingReflectionWhat other ways do you think help get along with your classmates?2How to Deal with Good Friends Getting Mad at You Friends are the people you depend on for everything, and when they are mad at you, you will be annoyed. The best way to deal with a fight between friends is to talk it out. Then, find ways to make amends ( 改善) and help your friendship bounce back stronger than ever.★Hearing them outOffer them the opportunity to express their agonies and explain what you did to make them so mad. It can be tough to listen to someone spell out your wrongdoing, even when it’s true. However, the key is not to get defensive or angry here. So, hear them out. Once they’ve stated their complaint, try to listen to their concerns. This helps mend fences by showing that they are not crazy for feeling the way they do. Let them know that their reaction makes sense to you and that they are right to be angry.★Making amendsApologize and admit it if you were wrong. Say, “I’m really sorry I made you suffer such extreme embarrassment. Can you forgive me?” The apology is most likely to be successful if you speak in a soft and sincere tone of voice, and make eye contact the whole time. In some cases, your friends may need a little time before they can completelymend fences with you. If the situation happens to be a misunderstanding in which you didn’t do anything wrong, time apart may help both sides to see the situation more clearly.Ask what you can do to make things better. Go to your friends and see how youcan resolve the situation so that your relationships don’t suffer. Moreover, be willing to put in some effort and meet their demands.★Strengthening the relationshipAddress the problems that broke the fences. Simply asking what you can do to make things better is only half of the solution. If you want the friendship to continue, commit to making changes within yourself to prevent similar problems from happening in the future. Let them know how important they are to you. If you have betrayed (背叛) or hurt a friend, they may need to know that you still care for them. The best way to strengthen the bonds of friendship is by spending quality time together. This shows them that you are making an effort.Lastly, remember that conflict can help you grow as a person and make your relationships closer!3How to keep strong interpersonal relationships One of the biggest keys to happiness is having strong interpersonal relationships. I believe that relationships are key to leading a meaningful life. They take some work to develop and keep, though, like anything worth having in life. Now, let’s look at how we can keep strong interpersonal relationships.Be openAny strong relationship requires the willingness to be open. This means the ability and desire ( 渴望) to share what you’re thinking a nd your feelings about different subjects. It really makes a lot of sense if you think about it. When you are open and willing to share, it shows the other person that you care about the relationship and that you want to create a closer connection.Show understandingOne of the deepest human desires is to feel understood. When you show understanding towards someone else, you are showing that you care enough to try to understand how they feel. And that goes a really long way to keeping strong relationships. Be respectfulTo help build and keep strong relationships, you will need to be respectful. If you are on a team at work, things will go so much better and the friendships will develop stronger if you are respectful to the others in the group. Work towards being respectful of others in general and certainly in closer relationships.Be availableGiving your time is like giving a gift. Time is the one thing we all have the same amount of — the same 24 hours a day, the same amount of days in a week and so on. How you choose to spend that time says a lot about you. And being available shows that you value someone enough to give your time to them.4Letters to MargeMarge’s replies5Live with ourselvesPeople tell lies when they think it’s to their advantage. We offer social politeness because saying what we really think might get us unfriended. But sometimes a white lie can really become a black one.A director was looking for a speaker. For a big event, he needed someone who could address an important topic with a good mix of humor. He decided to meet one of his candidates (候选人) for breakfast. This speaker could really captivate (迷住) an audience. With her mix of perfectly timed humor and truth, she would make the audience laugh and think at the same time.Offstage, she used a different skill. She was quick to make excuses for her lack (缺乏) of organization and planning. Whenever she was late or missed an appointment, she drew from her large bag of reasons, such as waiting for a late train, the unusually heavy traffic, or having to finish an important phone call. The beauty of her skill was in making her excuses ring true. The director sat at the breakfast table, waiting. Where was she? After another fifteen minutes, he picked up his cell phone to find out. “Are you waiting for another late train?” He tried to hide his anger by sounding like he was making a joke.Silence. “Uh ... I thought our appointment was tomorrow.”“That’s okay,” he said, somewhat relieved. “We can meet here in the morning.”“Oh, I can’t,” she said. “I have another appointment.”The speaker had been caught in her lie. If she really thought their meeting was tomorrow, she wouldn’t have scheduled two a ppointments at the same time. That ended the conversation. She didn’t get the booking.A white lie turns black as soon as someone thinks we’ve not told the truth. But if we tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth, we can live with the most honest person we’ve ever known: ourselves.6Moving on after a failing-out with a friend 真正的友谊从来不会平静无波。
friendly or threatening高中课文原文
friendly or threatening高中课文原文Have you ever wanted to be part of a band as a famous singer or musician? Have you ever dreamed of playing in front of thousands of people at a concert, at which everyone is clapping and appreciating your music? Do you sing karaoke and pretend you are a famous singer like Song Zuying or Liu Huan? To be honest, a lot of people attach great importance to becoming rich and famous. But just how do people form a band? Many musicians meet and form a band because they like to write and play their own music. They may start as a group of high-school students, for whom practicing their music in someone's house is the first step to fame. Sometimes they may play to passers-by in the street or subway so that they can earn some extra money for themselves or to pay for their instruments. Later they may give performances in pubs or clubs, for which they are paid in cash. Of course they hope to make records in a studio and sell millions of copies to become millionaires! However, there was one band that started in adifferent way. It was called the Monkees and began as a TV show. The musicians were to play jokes on each other as well as play music, most of which was based loosely on the Beatles. The TV organizers had planned to find four musicians who could act as well as sing. They put an advertisement in a newspaper looking for rock musicians, but they could only find one who was good enough. They had to use actors for the other three members of the band. As some of these actors could not sing well enough, they had to rely on other musicians to help them. So during the broadcasts they just pretended to sing. Anyhow their performances were humorous enough to be copied by other groups. They were so popular that their fans formed clubs in order to get more familiar with them. Each week on TV, the Monkees would play and sing songs written by other musicians. However, after a year or so in which they became more serious about their work, the Monkees started to play and sing their own songs like a real band. Then they produced their own records and started touring and playing their own music. In the USA they becameeven more popular than the Beatles and sold even more records. The band broke up about 1970, but happily they reunited in the mid-1980s. They produced a new record in 1996, with which they celebrated their former time as a real band.。

In fact, he wanted to be a church minister but was sent to the Belgian mining community of Borinage in 1879. He discovered that the miners there lived with terrible working conditions and received poverty-level wages. Their families were not well fed and struggled simply to survive. He felt concerned that the small salary he received from the church allowed him to live a normal life, which, in contrast to the poor, seemed unfair.A rich family in the community offered him free room and board. But Van Gogh turned down the offer, stating that it was the final temptation he must reject if he was to faithfully serve his community of poor miners. He believed that if he wanted them to trust him, he must become one of them. And if they were to learn of the love of God through him, he must love them enough to share with them.He was fully aware of a wide chasm which can separate words and actions. He knew that people’s lives often speak louder and clearer than their words. Maybe it was that same knowledge that led Francis of Assisi to frequently remind his monks(修士,僧侣), “Wherever you go, preach. Use words if necessary.”There are a million ways to say, “I love you,” without even saying a word!5. Among the following statements of Vincent Van Gogh, which is Not true?A. He was an artist.B. We can infer from the passage ____________.A. our lives always speak louder and clearer than our wordsB. the miners there worked under excellent working conditionsC. the ministers lived a much better and easier life than the miners at the timeD. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey. When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me—about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. And suddenly, all my big plans for myself didn't seem so important anymore. I soonfound that the greatest joy in my life was the joy I saw in yours. And I realized that my own life wouldn't count for much unless I was able to ensure that you had every opportunity for happiness and fulfillment in yours. In the end, girls, that's why I ran for President: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation.I want all our children to go to schools worthy of their potential—schools that challenge them, inspire them, and instill in them a sense of wonder about the world around them. I want them to have the chance to go to college—even if their parents aren't rich. And I want them to get good jobs: jobs that pay well and give them benefits like health care, jobs that let them spend time with their own kids and retire with dignity.I want us to push the boundaries of discovery so that you'll live to see new technologies and inventions that improve our lives and make our planet cleaner and safer. And I want us to push our own human boundaries to reach beyond the divides of race and region, gender and religion that keep us from seeing the best in each other.Sometimes we have to send our young men and women into war and other dangerous situations to protect our country—but when we do, I want to make sure that it is only for a very good reason, that we try our best to settle our differences with others peacefully, and that we do everything possible to keep our servicemen and women safe. And I want every child to understand that the blessings these brave Americans fight for are not free—that with the great privilege of being a citizen of this nation comes great responsibility. That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should meansomething. She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better—and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.I hope both of you will take up that work, righting the wrongs that you see and working to give others the chances you've had. Not just because you have an obligation to give something back to this country that has given our family so much—although you do have that obligation. But because you have an obligation to yourself. Because it is only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential. These are the things I want for you—to grow up in a world with no limits on your dreams and no achievements beyond your reach, and to grow into compassionate, committed women who will help build that world. And I want every child to have the same chances to learn and dream and grow and thrive that you girls have. That's why I've taken our family on this great adventure.I am so proud of both of you. I love you more than you can ever know. And I am grateful every day for your patience, poise, grace, and humor as we prepare to start our new life together in the White House.Love, Dad15.
