常用的有for one thing ...for another (一方面……另一方面),in the same way (以相同的方式,同样地),just as (正如),similarly (相似地,类似地),equally (同样地)。

如:I think it is a kind of winwin activity. For one thing, I can help take care of the children. For another thing,I can improve my English, make more friends, and enrich my life during the summer vacation.

I_am_trying_to_do_what_is_best,_but_equally_I've_got_to_consider_the_cost.②正如单个单词可以改变一句话的意思,单个句子也可以改变一段话的意思。

I should have been born with my fingers permanently glued to a keyboard. SinceI was five, I've known that I want to be a professional writer: a journalist, a novelist,a modernday Shakespeare, maybe. In my freshman year I tried to figure out what A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar were about. Macbeth was much easier to understand in my sophomore year (大学二年级).However, I'm practically addicted to books, whether I'm reading or writing them.I can't go a single day without writing something. I have made it a rule to pick upa pen and just let my thoughts out every day.I can be inspired by anything: an expression, a song and a movie. Once I get inspired, it's like the wheels turning faster and faster as I think out one possible story after another. My family is so widespread that whenever I meet with a cousin or an aunt I only vaguely (模糊地) remember; I tell him or her I'm a writer because I know it will distinguish me from all the other kids in the family and make me memorable. I told my relatives about the stories I used to write as a child, the projects I'm working on now, and why I'm working so hard to make a breakthrough in the competitive world of publishing. One aunt hugged me and told me, “Just don't forget about the rest of us when you become the next J.K. Rowling.”Smiling, I replied, “Don't worry, I won't.” I am confident that I will become the next J.K. Rowling. I have the ambition, the means, and the talent. My English and history teachers don't praise my writing and tell me I have no innate (与生俱来的) writing talent even though they know how passionate I am about writing, and how that passion slips through my fingertips to the paper.

(2020·合肥市调研性检测)The effects of coffee consumption on health have long been a subject of conflict and uncertainty. Since the 1980s, some have spoken out against coffee as it’s harmful to health, while others have welcomed coffee for its supposed benefits to health.According to a scientific report, mild coffee consumption, three to five cups per day, can be taken as a healthy dietary pattern, along with other healthful behavior. The report also says that coffee consumption helps reduce the risk of heart disease and it protects against Parkinson’s disease.According to Dr. Donald Hensrud of Mayo Clinic, high consumption of coffee has health risks. Dr. Hensrud mentions the dangers of high coffee consumption for people with a certain illness that slows the breakdown of caffeine in the body. Some studies said that drinking two or more cups of coffee daily can actually increase the risk of heart disease in these people.According to conclusions from a recent study led by Dr. Gregory Marcus, a doctor from the University of California, San Francisco, daily moderate consumption of caffeine, less than 4 cups, is not associated with these issues.Until the scientific community reaches a general agreement on the effects of coffee consumption on human health, it will be up to the individual to decide whether the benefits of drinking coffee are greater than the risks. When informed of these possible health benefits and harm of drinking coffee, Harwood, a high school student stated, “Even though there might be some negative effects of drinking coffee, for the most part, coffee drinking sounds good for health. Not to mention I need coffee to stay awake.”【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

阅读理解(2019·新疆适应性测试)Super-storm Sandy slammed into the eastern United States three years ago.The wind-driven water caused a lot of flooding, especially in the region's subway system. Now two teens have invented a device that could help prevent future subway floods. In New York City alone,Superstorm Sandy caused an estimated $19 billion in damage.Much of the floodwaters entered the subway system through its ventilation grates(通风栅).Those metal grills usually lie at ground level. When the system is shut down ahead of a flood, engineers try to cover those grates with plywood(胶合板) and sandbags. But the flooding often washes away those measures, which allows water to flow into the tunnels.Raising those grates even a tiny bit above ground level would cost a lot of money.Other ideas have included building tall chimneys around the holes. That would raise the grates and cost a lot of money, too.Kyle and Raymond came up with a different, less expensive idea. They designed a metal grate with a built-in,adjustable cover. When trains are running, one part of the grate slides open to bring in fresh air.But when the system is shut down, that part can be slid shut to completely block the grate.Their grate is the same size as the grates used now. So,it would be simple, they say,to lift out the old grate and drop in a replacement.Their design includes tamperproof features, which can prevent operation mistakes. They make sure that people don't intentionally shut off airflow during normal conditions. For people with the proper key,it would only take a minute or two to close the grate ahead of a flood.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述三年前超级风暴Sandy猛烈袭击美国东部,造成了洪水灾害,当地的地铁被洪水淹没。

1Unfortunately, I cannot provide a continuation of the 2020 New College Entrance Examination English paper as it is a copyrighted material. However, I can offer a sample continuation of a fictional English paper. Here it is:***Task: Write a story based on the following picture. The sun was setting on the horizon, casting a warm glow over the vast ocean. The waves gently lapped against the shore, creating a soothing symphony that filled the air. As I stood on the sandy beach, I couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over me.I had come to this remote island to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. The stress of work and the demands of everyday life had taken a toll on me, and I needed a break. So, I packed my bags and set off on a journey to find myself. As I wandered the island, I discovered hidden coves and secret beaches that seemed untouched by human hands. I spent my days basking in the sun, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, and exploring the lush forests that covered the island. It was a paradise unlike any other, and I felt as though I had found a piece of heaven on Earth. One day, as I was strolling along the beach, I came across a small wooden boat washed ashore. Curious, I approached it and peered inside. To my surprise, I found a message in a bottle tucked away in a corner. With trembling hands, I pulled out the message and unfurled it.The message was from a stranded sailor who had been marooned on the island for months. He wrote of his struggles to survive and his desperate attempts to escape. As I read his words, my heart went out to him, and I knew I had to help.Determined to rescue the sailor, I set out to find him. After days of searching, I finally located him in a hidden cave on the island. He was emaciated and weak, but his eyes sparkled with gratitude as I approached.Together, we repaired the boat and embarked on a perilous journey back to civilization. The sea was rough, and the windswere fierce, but we refused to give up. And finally, after what seemed like an eternity, we spotted the lights of a distant shore. As we stepped onto solid ground, the sailor turned to me with tears in his eyes. "Thank you," he whispered. And in that moment, I knew that our adventure had brought us closer together, forging a bond that would last a lifetime. And so, as the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the ocean, I knew that I had found not only myself but also a true friend in the most unlikely of places. The island had given me more than I could have ever imagined, and I was filled with a sense of gratitude and joy that would stay with me forever. The End.篇2The summer sun beat down on the school field as the students gathered nervously for the final part of the new college entrance exam. The 2020 seniors had been preparing for this moment for years, and now it was finally here - the English writing test.Anna and her classmates glanced at each other, their faces a mix of excitement and anxiety. This was their chance to showcasetheir English skills and earn a spot at their dream universities. The topic was revealed and they got started. As Anna hunched over her paper, her mind raced with ideas. She wanted to impress the examiners with her creativity and originality. She started writing about a group of friends who embarked on an adventure to save their town from an evil villain. The words flowed easily from her pen, and she felt a surge of confidence.Meanwhile, Jack struggled to find inspiration. He had always struggled with writing in English, and today was no exception. He stared blankly at the paper, his mind a jumble of thoughts. Finally, he remembered a story his grandmother used to tell him about a magical tree that granted wishes. With a renewed sense of purpose, he began to write. The hours ticked by as the students poured their hearts into their essays. Some wrote about love and friendship, while others explored deep philosophical questions. But all of them shared a common goal - to shine on this final test and secure their future. As the last minutes of the exam approached, the students hurried to finish their essays. The bell rang, signaling the end of the test. Anna and Jack exchanged nervous glances, unsure of how they had done.Weeks passed, and the results were finally announced. Anna had received top marks on her essay, earning praise from the examiners for her creativity and originality. Jack, on the other hand, had scored lower than he had hoped, but he was proud of himself for overcoming his fear of writing in English. The 2020 seniors celebrated the end of their high school journey, eager to embark on the next chapter of their lives. And as they looked back on that sweltering summer day, they knew that they had given it their all and had no regrets. This was the story of the 2020 seniors and their final English writing test - a test of courage, perseverance, and the power of words. It was a breezy afternoon when Lily received the unexpected news that she had been accepted into her dream university. Joy and excitement filled her heart as she shared the good news with her family and friends. After years of hard work and dedication, her efforts had finally paid off.As she sat in her room, contemplating the new chapter of her life that was about to unfold, she couldn't help but feel asense of nervousness. The thought of leaving her family and friends behind, of stepping into the unknown, was both exhilarating and daunting. In the weeks that followed, Lily found herself caught up in a whirlwind of preparations. Packing up her belongings, saying goodbye to her loved ones, and making the journey to her new home all felt like a blur. But as she settled into her dorm room and met her new classmates, she felt a sense of belonging and excitement for the adventures that lay ahead. As the semester progressed, Lily threw herself into her studies, eager to absorb as much knowledge as she could. The lectures were challenging, the assignments demanding, but she welcomed the opportunity to stretch her mind and grow as a person. She found herself making friends, joining clubs, and exploring new interests that she never thought she'd be interested in.But amidst all the excitement and busyness of university life, Lily couldn't help but feel a pang of homesickness from time to time. She missed her family, her friends, and the comfort of the familiar. She longed for the familiar sounds and scents of home, the laughter and love that she had grown accustomed to.One evening, as she sat on the steps of her dorm, gazing at the stars above, Lily felt a sense of peace wash over her. She realized that home was not a place, but a feeling - a feeling of love, security, and belonging that she carried with her wherever she went. And in that moment, she knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be.As the semester drew to a close, Lily found herself looking back on the past few months with a sense of awe and gratitude. She had grown in ways she never thought possible, had made lifelong friends, and had discovered a strength and resilience within herself that she never knew she had. And as she packed her bags to head home for the holidays, she knew that she was ready to face whatever challenges and triumphs awaited her in the years to come.In conclusion, Lily's journey to university was not just a physical one, but a journey of self-discovery and growth. It was a journey filled with laughter, tears, challenges, and victories, but above all, it was a journey of love - love for her family, her friends, and most importantly, love for herself. And as she looked ahead to the future with hope and excitement, she knew that the best was yet to come.。
