1.The kids are taken to task for having broken one of the class windows.
2.To take children to task over what they did wrong is a formation of early-stage responsibility.
3.The developing countries are not the sole ones to be taken to task over severe pollutions, unless the developed countries stop setting up factories within their boundaries.
4.It’s unfair to take modern technology to task over widespread myopia problem among the young, when a lack of proper parental guidance is rarely accused of.
酷炫写作系列Session 2:head and shoulders above下面再来学习一个新的酷炫表达:head and shoulders above。

题目(Topic):Some people believe that the best way to solve environmental problems is to increase the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles. Others think that there are better ways to achieve this goal. What is your opinion? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. (English Version):In my opinion, increasing the cost of fuel for cars and other vehicles is an effective way to address environmental problems. Higher fuel prices can encourage people to use public transportation, carpool, or even consider alternative methods of commuting, which can significantly reduce carbon emissions and alleviate environmental damage.Firstly, raising the cost of fuel makes public transportation a more appealing option. When fuel prices are high, people are more likely to choose buses, trains, or subways for their daily commute. This increased usage of public transportation not only reduces traffic congestion but also decreases the overall carbon footprint of a community.Secondly, higher fuel prices can promote carpooling among commuters. Carpooling allows multiple individuals to share a ride in onevehicle, thereby reducing the number of cars on the road. Fewer cars mean less pollution and reduced consumption of fossil fuels, leading to a healthier environment.Additionally, expensive fuel can drive innovation and adoption of eco-friendly vehicles, such as electric cars and hybrids. As fuel prices rise, the demand for fuel-efficient and electric vehicles increases, prompting automobile manufacturers to invest more in environmentally friendly technologies. This shift towards cleaner transportation options is crucialin combating environmental problems caused by traditionalgasoline-powered vehicles.

As early as the twelfth century A.D., the settlements of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico in the American Southwest were notable for their "great houses," massive stone buildings that contain hundreds of rooms and often stand three or four stories high. Archaeologists have been trying to determine how the buildings were used. While there is still no universally agreed upon explanation, there are three competing theories. One theory holds that the Chaco structures were purely residential, with each housing hundreds of people. Supporters of this theory have interpreted Chaco great houses as earlier versions of the architecture seen in more recent Southwest societies. In particular, the Chaco houses appear strikingly similar to the large, well-known "apartment buildings" at Taos, New Mexico, in which many people have been living for centuries. A second theory contends that the Chaco structures were usedto store food supplies. One of the main crops of the Chaco people was grain maize, which could be stored for long periods of time without spoiling and could serve as a long-lasting supply of food. The supplies of maize had to be stored somewhere, and the size of the great houses would make them very suitable for the purpose. A third theory proposes that houses were used as ceremonial centers. Close to one house, called Pueblo Alto, archaeologists identified an enormous mound formed by a pile of old material. Excavations of the mound revealed deposits containing a surprisingly large number of broken pots. This finding has been interpreted as evidence that people gathered at Pueblo Alto for special ceremonies. At the ceremonies, they ate festive meals and then discarded the pots in which the meals had been prepared or served. Such ceremonies have been documented for other Native American cultures. Professor: Unfortunately none of the arguments about what the Chaco great houses were used for is convincing.First, sure, from the outside, the great houses look like later and Native American apartment but the inside of the great houses casts serious doubt on the idea that many people lived there. I'll explain. If hundreds of people were living in the great houses, then there would have to be many fireplaces, where each family did its daily cooking, but there are very few fireplaces. In one of the largest great houses, there were fireplaces for only around ten families, so the primary function of the houses couldn't have been residential.Second, the idea that the great houses were used to store grain maize; unsupported by evidence. It many sound plausible that large empty rooms were used for storage, but excavations of the great houses have not uncovered many traces of maize or maize containers. If the great houses were used for storage, why isn't there more spilled maize on the floor? Why aren't there more remains of big containers?Third, the idea that the great houses were ceremonial centers isn't well supported either. You know that mound at PuebloAlto? It contains lots of other materials besides broken pots, stuff you wouldn't expect from ceremonies. For example, there are large quantities of building materials, sands, stones, even construction tools. This suggests that the mound is just a trash heap of construction material, stuff that was thrown away or not sued up when a house was being built. The pots in the pile could be regular trash too, leftover from the meals of the construction workers. So the Pueblo Alto mound is not good evidence that the great houses were used for special ceremonies. The author of the reading passage proposes three theories as likelyexplanations of the primary function of Chaco Canyon houses, grant structures built in the I2th century. The lecturer, however, points to the inaccuracies in each of these theories. The lecturer argues that the modest number of fireplaces in these structures is in contradiction with the huge size of these houses, indicating that these structures could not have been used for Residential purposes. The Reading, however, draws comparisons between the Chaco houses and other similar large Residential structures in support of the "Residential" theory. The second theory, that the houses were used for food storage, is also rejected by the lecturer. He explains that a place that had been used for storing maize would have many traces of scattered Maize, which is not the case in the area of the Chaco Canyon houses. This proves that the "food storage theory" is unlikely. Finally, regarding the third theory, the "ceremony theory", the lecturer contends that the presence of broken pots close to the great houses does not offer sufficient proof that this was a place for ceremonial activities. He argues that there are other materials such as pieces of construction trash found along with the broken pots, which suggest that these pots were probably not used for ceremonial purposes but instead were discarded by construction workers upon completion of the great houses.

The lecturer made the point that……,which differs from the main idea in the reading that……。
Score Task Description3 A response at this level contains some important information from the lectureand conveys some relevant connection to the reading, but it is marked by oneor more of the following:1)Although the overall response is definitely oriented to the task, it conveys only vague, global, unclear, or somewhat imprecise connection of the pointsmade in the lecture to points made in the reading。
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Colleges or universitiesshould offer students a better job preparation before they can start working. With the competition in the job market increasingly intense these days (随着就业市场的竞争越来越紧张), college students are under great pressure even before they set out to hunt for jobs.Since it is in universities that students come to learn about and choose their future professions, it is of great significance for colleges or universities to prepare students in areas like making career plans, professional skills and cooperation with others(因为学生是在学校了解和选择未来的职业,所以学院或学校为学生做职业规划,工作技能或与人合作这样的领域的准备至关重要)..Colleges should offer students career planning courses which provide them with direction on how to set their goals and formulate a specific plan to achieve the goals. Many college students do not have a definite idea what they want to do in the future.A survey conducted in many universities over a period of ten years, however, suggests that those with clear goals are more likely to enjoy a successful career. Therefore it will be of considerable use for students to explore their interest and capabilities, as well as to set sensible targets for themselves. In addition, professional skills are a must at work in the future. Man universities focus on the impartation of specialized knowledge, overlooking the fact that professional skills are just as important and should be mastered by undergraduates. There should therefore be more courses that train students in skills which will be applied to their specialized fields. A biology major, for instance, should be capable of carrying out microbial experiments.Furthermore, courses on how to cooperate with colleagues are also needed for the reason that good cooperation is the prerequisite for satisfactory performance at work. Students should be instructed in methods for building good relationship with co-workers, for reaching a consensus on plans, and for distributing tasks appropriately. Not only will this kind of training benefit students’ efficiency at work, but it will exert a profound influence on their everyday life. Therefore, colleges should provide students with a better job preparation with the aim of helping them to achieve what they desire at work. Students, on the other hand, should seize the precious time in universities and try their utmost to get themselves prepared for the career after graduation. The friends that you can have fun with are more important than the friends that you can get help from?Friendship is regarded an indispensable part of life by most people. We cherish friends for a variety of reasons, ranging from the happiness they bring to the favor they do us. Some people maintain that the friends that you can have fun with are more important than the friends you can get help from. But in my view, both kinds of friends are of great importance and we cannot live with either of them absent from our lives.Elevate the learning efficiencyFriends we can have fun with, in some senses, are those who brighten our lives. People all need someone who can share their happiness. We can get a lot of pleasure out of time spent with friends, doing something we all take an interest in. I have some good friends at college, with whom I often go to movies, play sports and enjoy some delicious food that I’ve never tasted. Sometimes we even take a train and travel somewhere far away from our city. We can always enjoy ourselves together. When I am in low spirits, being with them never fails to cheer me up. Their friendship is what I will always treasure.Friends we can get help from, on the other hand, are just as precious to us. They may not necessarily be with us all the time, but they are those to whom we can always turn in our hour of need. Since we cannot manage to handle everything we are faced with, friends who are willing to help us are people we cannot live without. The encouragement they give us in gloomy days, the support they offer when we are in trouble, and the warmth they bring when we are dismayed, are what help us conquer our fear, face difficulties and keep endeavoring regardless of the hardships. As an old saying goes, ‘a friend in need is a friend indeed’. Rather than expect to obtain something, these friends are ready to give us a hand at any time.In conclusion, friends we can have fun with and friends that will help us are of the same significance and neither can be ignored by us. Actually, there are friends that can help us and have fun with us at the same time. And they are friends that deserve to be cherished by us all our life.Compared with people who live in cities, people who live in rural areas can take better care of their families.I agree with the statement that people living in the countryside are able to take better care of their families than those urban residents. People who reside in cities have access to better education resources and health services, admittedly, but there are also many drawbacks that keep them from enjoying leisure time with families and paying close attention to family members’ physical or mental condition. People living in rural areas, on the contrary, are not confronted with these problems.People living in cities are eternally afflicted with stress imposed on them by competition, long working hours, congestion and so on. It is never a piece of cake to keep up with the fast pace of city life. As a result, it is really hard for them to spare some time to be with their families and enjoy the leisure hours. My father is a really diligent engineer who often works overtime. So it is not surprising that my mother keeps complaining about his coming home late. My father, in turn, is getting tired of these complaints. So stress of urban residents can have a negative influence on relationship between family members. In addition, in rural areas it is common to see people live with their parents, while in cities, sons and daughters usually have their own homes after they get married. Living with parents allows people to care for their parents, whose delicate health may be threatened in the aging process. Furthermore, it is always parents’ wish that their sons or daughters can spend more time with them, so living together is a real comfort for parents. There are thousands of empty-nest seniors in cities of China, while the elders in rural areas usually have at least one son or daughter living with them.Besides, the environment in the countryside is much better than that in cities. Children are exposed to the nature, having opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the wild. Kids growing up in cities, however, have to jump from one extra class to another arranged by their parents. When they are not doing their homework, what they do is just watching TV or surfing the Internet. Better education as they may receive, they are deprived of the happiness gained from the nature. Consequently, parents in rural areas can provide their children with more chances to embrace the nature and grow up in more agreeable surroundings.Admittedly, living in urban areas does have its positive facets, but there is no denying that people living in the countryside can take better care of their families. Many people move to cities in pursuit of their fortune, but what they have sacrificed may never be regained. The advice from grandparents has no use for their grandchildren because the world changed a lot during the past 50 years.Should we follow our grandparents’advice or not in today’s rapidly developing society? Positive. Although many people believe that experience of grandparents is obsolete with the society progressing at such a high speed, their advice is still of great value to us.To begin with, change as the society may, the basic criteria have been the same over the past 50 to 100 years. Grandparents’ opinion about what is right and what is wrong can still apply to today’s circumstances. Take my grandmother for example. When I lived with her as a kid, she would tell me stories about the virtues of ancient people, like the modesty of Confucius, the diligent of Kong Rong, and the intelligence of Zhuge Liang. I was fascinated with the characters and determined to be a person like them. Thus my grandmother’s advice helped to shape my personality. In addition, some traditional knowledge grandparents retain is still of great use today. Having been utilized by people throughout the history for thousands of years, the knowledge has been proved right and efficient, which is not going to change just because science and technology has developed. For instance, traditional Chinese medicine is known to many old people. In treating some diseases, the effect of Chinese medicine is amazing. Therefore the knowledge grandparents have may be still useful.Last but not least, our grandparents are aged, admittedly, but that does not mean that they do not change with the society. They may also have new ideas as we do. My grandfather is a good example. He pay close attention to political and economical events happening around the world. So it is unfair to assume that all the elderly people are old fossils. Grandparents’ advice can also keep pace with the society.OutdatedObsoleteIn conclusion, it is unfair to say that the advice from grandparents are of no use for their grandchildren. Instead of just ignoring what they say, we should listen to their advice and decide for ourselves whether we should follow it.Parents should allow their children to make mistakes and let them learn from their own mistakes. It is never easy to educate a child. Some people believe it is parents’ responsibility to tell their children what is wrong and prevent them from making mistakes. But it seems a wiser choice to allow children to make mistakes and let them learn from what they do themselves. The impression a mistake leaves on a child is considerably deep. It is right to say that making mistakes and correcting them is one of the best ways for children to become mature. When they make mistakes, they are supposed to take on the responsibility and make up for the loss they cause, which will not only make them remember the consequence of mistakes and try not to do the same thing again, but will help build up their sense of responsibility as well. If parents just tell their children what is right, they may never actually understand it.Another reason why making mistakes is important is that those who do not fear mistakes tend to be more creative. Only by attempting over and over again can people learn what is the best way to solve a problem. Children should be encouraged to try different methods and not to fear mistakes. Edison made thousands of mistakes before he eventually invented the light bulb. If he had been afraid of failure and had not tried so many times, we could still be using candles today.Admittedly, however, there are some mistakes that children had better not make. If the consequence of a mistake is severe and may not be compensated, it is not a good idea to allow children to make it. For instance, when the behavior of a child may offend the moral or law, the child’s parents should prevent the behavior without hesitation, otherwise they may regret not protecting their child later. In conclusion, parents should allow their children to make some mistakes because mistakes help children to grow up and come up with creative ideas. But some mistakes, on the other hand, should never be allowed to occur.。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?People today spend too much time on personal enjoyment-doing things they like to do-rather than doingthings they should do.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.Sample Responses:The above statement poses a hot topic on contradiction of people's personal enjoyments and responsibilities. And the speaker tends to think people now are dedicating more on personal likeness than on what they should do. Istrongly disagree with this opinion because I think that to pursue one's individual enjoyment does not contradict toassume the responsibility.Admittedly, people nowadays increasingly enjoy freedom to pursue personal enjoyment than before. As thedevelopment of democracy, the ideas and behaviors of individual are respected and encouraged to some extent. For instance, students can choose any major which they favor mostly; graduates can participate in whateverprofessions they are interested in; citizens possess absolute freedom on free press and behaviors they like. Briefly, people have much time and freedom to do their favorite things. However, spending much time on personal enjoyment does not indicate that people ignore their accountabilitywhich should be taken. Let's take a college student in art for example. Generally, students in art major shouldspend much time on reading and appreciating art history, biography of artists and art works. Yet, thestudent favorsmore on economics. He probably continues to earn his degree on art with great interest in economic as well. Or hemay pursue asecond degree on economics. No matter what his decision is, he takes his responsibility to become a worthystudent of his major. In addition, to pursue one's personal enjoyment help to assume the responsibility. People should not beblamed for their time spent on things they like. Obviously, people lived in an time teemed with tense competitionand they are often under a huge pressure. After a whole day job or a period of work, you probably make yourselfdrunk, or go for shopping crazily, or bury yourself in a series of insane music, or whatsoever you prefer. Of courseyou are most likely to become relaxed and inspired through these favorite experience. Eventually, the greatphysical and mental recreation is conducive to a better performance in your profession the next day.To sum up, it is unreasonable to separate apart what people like to do and what they should do. The pursuit onpersonal enjoyment and assumption on accountability are interwoven. They do not contradict to each other. Theeffort and time on personal enjoyment does not equal to the ignorance on people's responsibility because of theobjective requirement from each identity. Moreover, personal hobbies are good catalyst for improvement on theoriginal professions.。

Accordingly, they take some time off from work and relax with hobbies or physical activities. Some contend that people should enjoy hobbies or physical activities that are similar to what they do at work. However, I disagree with this idea because by trying new things, people get chances to meet others with different backgrounds. Moreover, they can experience diverse fields.First off, when people do hobbies or physical activities that are related to their jobs, they tend to meet others with similar backgrounds. On the other hand, they can socialize with people who have different occupations. For example, my cousin, who is a scientist, takes part in rock climbing every weekend. He says that he can release stress not only by being away from his office and doing physical activity but also by meeting people with various jobs.Secondly, by doing an activity that is dissimilar to one’s job, one can gain diverse experiences. To illustrate, my friend works as an archaeologist, and her workplace is mostly in suburban areas where she and her coworkers unearth artifacts or remains. However, she has started to learn flamenco dance; by learning it, my friend has both gained a new skill and had chances to experience Spanish culture, including the food. Had her hobbies been centered around her job, she would not have had such opportunities. It is true that by doing a hobby that is similar to one’s work, one does not have to take the risk of trying a hobby which one later discovers to be not so fascinating, a situation which could cause stress and waste time and money. Conversely, challenges often open up a new world for people in which they find opportunities to meet people with different occupations. Furthermore, one can enjoy diverse experiences by choosing an activity that is unrelated to one’s job. For these two reasons, I firmly agree with the statement that people should take time off from work to relax with hobbies or physical activities that are very different from what they do at work.◆思路分析同意题目观点分论点1:On the other hand, they can socialize with people who have different occupations.

it will specifically harm only the cane toads. The virus will control the population of cane toads by preventing them from maturing and reproducing.ListeningThe cane toad won’t be as easy to get rid of as the reading suggests. The measures proposed by the reading are likely either to be unsuccessful or to cause unwanted environmental damage.First of all, a national fence probably won’t stop the spread of the toad. That’s because young toads and toad eggs are found in rivers and streams. No matter where the fence is located, at some point there will be rivers or streams flowing from one side to the other. These waterways will be able to carry the young toads and their eggs to the other side.Since it’s only necessary for a few young toads or eggs to get through the fence in order to establish population on the other side, the fence is unlikely to be effective.Secondly, a massive group of volunteers could have success trapping and destroying toads. But it’s likely that these untrained volunteers would inadvertently destroy many of Australia’s native frogs. Some of which are endangered. It’s not always easy to tell the cane toad apart from native frogs especially when it’s young.Third, using the virus is a bad idea because it could have terrible consequences for cane toads in their original habitat in Central and South America. You might be wondering how can a virus released in Australia cause harm in the America.Well,Australian reptiles and amphibians are often transported to other continents by researchers or pet collectors for eXample.Once the animals infected by the virus reach Central and South America, the virus will attack the native cane toads and devastate their populations. That would be and ecological disaster because in the America cane toads are a native species and a vital part of the ecosystem. So if they are eliminated, the whole ecosystem will suffer. In the reading passage, the author raises that reading less literature has caused unfortunate effects on the reading public, the cultural general and literature the contrary, theprofessor strongly contradicts with it.To begin with, according to the reading passage, the author mainly talks about reading less literature cannot provide readers with intellectual contrast, the lecturer disagrees with it and she reasons that a book doesn’t have to be literature to be intellectually books, history and political analysis aren’t literature but they are often of high quality and some of those books are just as creative and well-written as novels and don’t assume that someone who isn’t reading literature isn’t reading a good book.To be followed, the reading passage indicates that the culture is in speaker holds the opposite opinion and she says that people are not just spending less time in literature and they are spending less time with books in are many culturally valuable material that isn’t written such as a brilliant song and good are not wasting their time when they listen to good songs and watch good non-literal activities will not lower the some of those creative forms can speak more directly to contemporary concerns than literature does.Lastly, the writer in the reading part says that it is the readers’fault to lead to the less support for comparison, the listening material presents a totally different opinionthat it is the authors’fault because today’s literature is intended to be difficult to don’t assume the earlier’s generations of readers would read a lot modern literature today. The lecture and the reading discuss ( ).The lecturer puts forward 3 pioints and effectively contradicts the opinions of the reading.First of all, the reading says that ( ).In contrast, the lecture claims that ( ).By this way, the lecture contradicts the first opinion of the reading.Second, the reading claims that ( ), while according to the lecture, this is not the case. The lecturer says that ( ).By casting doubt on an important peice of evidence of the reading, the lecture contradicts the second claim of the reading. Finally, the reading states that ( ), while the lecture claims that ( ).Thus the lecture refutes the last claim of the reading. The reading passage contends that…(详细的写)The listening material completely refutes the reading passage .It is pointed in the listening that ……(写出main idea 就行) First, the point, stated in the reading passage, isthat … In contrast, the listening passage holds the opposite opinion and believes that ……Second, the reading passage contends that …… But the speaker in the listening says that …Third, the author, in the reading passage, believes that ……However, the lecturer in the listening argues that ……。

TPO 5Although these days we have many distractions to tempt us away from our obligations that can lead to procrastination and disappointment, pursuing our interests may also be inspirational and healthy. I think that as long as we maintain self-discipline to prioritize our commitments, then there is nothing wrong with unwinding as we wish.

In any economy, everyone is obliged to do their bit as a generator of income, to provide for their families and at the very least avoid being a burden to society. As such, we must fulfill our obligations as a main concern before, say, watching television or playing sports. If we do not, then we will fail to live up to our duties with appropriate consequences. Our failure, in this respect, cannot be placed at another’s doorstep while family, nor society, should be expected to pick up the pieces. Our duties are various, our dependents rely on us and if we all act without sufficient restraint, society cannot function.

1MA A gift (such as a camera, a soccer ball, or an animal) can contribute to a child’s development. What gift would you give to help a child develop? Why? Use reasons and specific examples to support your choice. When I was about 10 years old, my older sister gave me a present. It was my first real grown-up bicycle: a three-speed, yellow and black, shiny and new. I still remember how excited I was. That bicycle was very important to me over the next few years. If I wanted to give a gift that would contribute to a child’s development, I would choose a bicycle.Bikes are great exercise. They encourage outdoor play. Television and video games, which are the most popular children’s activities nowadays, involve mostly sitting and starting. Riding a bike makes exercise fun.Bikes are convenient transportation, too. Without a bike you have to depend on an adult to drive you almost everywhere. With a bike you can go farther. You can ride to your friend’s bouses. If your school is close enough, you can take yourself to school. You have control over where you go, and you’re not always waiting or begging for a ride. Now you can say “Can I go ……?” instead of “Please take me!”To me as a child, a bicycle meant independence. Not only could I could I go farther, but no one was watching where I went. The road went past the park, the pond, the woods, the 7-11 store, and more. I saw thenetwork of little neighborhood roads from a different viewpoint. I could stop anywhere and look at whatever I wanted. Everything was my choice. Bike riding was active, not passive. My bicycle gave me fun exercise, easy transportation, and freedom. For all these reasons, I think that a bicycle is a special present for a child. 2PR Some people believe that students should be given one long vacation each year. Others believe that students should have several short vacations throughout the year. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your choice.I like the idea of students having several short vacations throughout the year. I’m a working parent with two school-age children. Every summer I have to come up with a plan for keeping my children safe and entertained for three months, while my husband and I are at work. Summer camps are expensive, and finding the one your children will enjoy can be a challenge. Getting rid of that one long vacation would make life a lot easier.Having several shorter vacations would also make it easier to schedule vacations. My husband and I both work in small offices with other working parents. All of us need vacation time during the same three months. This is hard on our businesses and our careers. We also find that wherever we go in the summer, it’s crowded. It would be nice to go places throughout the year and find smaller crowds. I’m sure the attractions themselves would like that better, too. It would be better for the economy to spread things out, too.I think my children would be more focused on their students if their vacation time was divided up throughout the year. The final month of theschool year, they’re just not paying attention. They’ve been in school for nine long months and they don’t have a lot of energy. Plus , they’re anticipating vacation time. If vacations were throughout the year, they would concentrate better on studies.Of course, many older school buildings aren’t air-conditioned, because usually people aren’t there during the hottest months. That might be a problem, I think, though, that new air-conditioning would be worth the cost. During the last few weeks of summer, my children are bored with their long vacation. I doubt that would happen if there were several vacations throughout the year. 3EX What do you consider to be the most important room in a house? Why is this room more important to you than any other room? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. The kitchen is my favorite room in a house, because it is where families gather. To me, that is the most important thing. So many of the memories people have of growing up revolve around the kitchen. My childhood memories concern the kitchens in my grandparents ‘homes. My mother’s family lived in a row house in the city. The rooms were all small, and that included the kitchen. In the summertime, when we’d visit, the back door of the house would be left open. People would be sitting on the back porch and in the kitchen, talking and laughing, while my grandmother made dinner. There was no air-conditioning, but I don’t ever remember feeling too hot. There was always a breeze coming through, along with the sounds of traffic and kids playing ball in the street. My father’s family liver on a farm in the country, and their house had a huge kitchen with windows on three sides. It seems like the windows were always open and the curtains blowing with the breeze. Themain door to the house was almost never used. Everyone came in through the kitchen, and sat at the big table in the middle of the room. When dinner was being prepared, all the women would bustle around, while the men sat at the table talking about farm prices. Sometimes my grandmother wouldn’t even sit down during dinner, but would be refilling bowls of food and people’s glasses. From outside ,we could hear the cows in the field near the house. These two kitchens are the background for some of my happiest memories. From the beginning of time, human beings have gathered together near the fire where the food was being prepared. I hope that never changes. 4PR Would you prefer to live in a traditional house or in a modern apartment building? Use specific reasons and details to support your choice.I know there are advantages to living in a modern apartment, but Id prefer to live in a traditional house. My reason is that I love traditional design. Its graceful and warm and inviting. I think modern design is very empty and sterile and not very inviting. So, because of the way it looks, Id choose a traditional house.I recognize the fact that a modern apartment is going to be in much better shape. Being new probably means all the plumbing works, the roof isnt going to leak, the windows are properly sealed, and the kitchen appliances are in working order. A traditional house cant guarantee any of that. In fact, its likely that things will break down or need replacement, simply because of age.Still, if the appliances are old, so is the wood, and thats a big advantage as far as Im concerned. Very few new buildings have the kindof woods that were used years ago. Its something that cant be copied.Space is always important to me, too. I need a lot of room for my home office, my clothes, and to display all the knickknacks Ive picked up in my travels. I also like to have interesting space. I dont want all the rooms and windows the same size or a boxy design. A modern apartment usually comes in one size and shape. A traditional house is going to have a variety of spaces where I can put a little table or a window seat. And it will have lots of room, from basement to attic. These are all good reasons for me to prefer living in a traditional house. Some people love modern design, but its not for me. The space and beauty of a traditional home are more important to me than having everything new and perfect. 5Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? High schools should allow students to study the courses that students want to study. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.I think high school students should be allowed to choose some of the subjects they study. However, the basic subjects, like mathematics, literature, and science, should be mandatory for all students. When I was in high school, we were allowed to choose three electives each semester. Electives were subjects that weren’t part of the basic curriculum. They included things like music, journalism, art, and various kinds of team sports. Choosing some of these subjects to study gave me a chance to experiment. I was able to get a head start on what I was going to study in college. However, college preparation shouldn’t be the main factor. I think all students should be allowed to take a certain number of courses justbecause they’re interested in them. For many students, high school is the last chance to learn about things they’re interested in. Maybe once they have a job there won’t be time for studying.Of course, it’s also important that students study certain basic subjects. If I’d had a choice, I know I wouldn’t have studied mathematics or science. I wasn’t very interested in them. However, once I was in class, I found myself getting interested. I wouldn’t have known this if I’d been given the choice, because I would have chosen not to take the courses.High school students aren’t always the best judges of what they’ll find useful in the years ahead. They need the guidance of experts in the field of education. However, they also need some freedom to follow their curiosity and individual interests. They should be given the freedom to choose some courses, while being required to take others.。
Introduction Paragraph:Say what you are going to say.
