Oral Presentation

How to deal with cultural differences
We are often expected to give oral presentations to our classmates and teachers. To some teachers, our performance in oral presentations will form an important part of the overall assessment of our work.
• One World • 1. In what sense do you think we can regard the world we live in as One World? • 2. Do you think people in the world are largely similar? • 3. Do you know any traditions of other people in the world( Especially birthday celebrations between China and Western countries)?
We should make friends with those who are kind-hearted, compassionate, caring, honest and thoughtful, because they are sincere and reliable. So don’t try to win a friend with gifts only. The only way to have a friend is to be one.
Oral Presentation Guide
Oral Presentation Guide∙Talk – remember you are giving an oral presentation. You should talk to the class. This is the main point. The majority of your presentation should be spoken (do not rely too much on PowerPoint doing the talking for you).∙Don’t rea d! - Do not read to your classmates (this is your biggest challenge!). The problems with reading, is that you are not talking to your classmates, you are reading to them. It’s hard to look at your classmates when you are reading! Another problem, is that there is no evidence that you know what you are reading. Anyone can take a book to class and read it to their classmates! You should know the content of your speech well and understand what your words mean. You will receive a fail score if you read your presentation!∙Don’t read on computer! - Do not put your speech on Ppt (PowerPoint) so that you can read it on the computer.Keep the text to a minimum on your Ppt presentation (key words & titles only).∙Don’t recite! – reciting your presentation is difficult and requires you to remember every word in every sentence. One problem you may face is that you forget some sentences and cannot continue with your presentation.Another problem is that you are not really looking at your classmates – your face is a ‘mask of concentration’ –trying very to remember each sentences. Students who choose to recite their presentation seem very tense and find it difficult to relax. They often stand stiffly on the stage unable to move while ‘downloading’ all the information that they have remembered. A recited speech is a very unnatural speech.∙Eye-contact –maintain eye-contact with your classmates. It is important to for your classmates to feel that you are talking to them. If you don’t look at your classmates, how do you know they can follow what you are saying? How do you know if they are interested or bored with your presentation?∙Delivery –the manner of speaking (aim to look natural and sound as confident as possible). Try to develop a relaxed body posture, use gestures and move about freely when presenting information.∙Voice projection –can the students at the back of the class hear you? Quiet speakers may need to practice talking loudly to the back of the classroom. Talking loudly is not the same as shouting! I f the class can’t hear you, then you have failed to deliver an effective presentation.∙Pitch – refers to the highs and lows of your voice. Whatever you do, avoid a flat monotone!∙Speaking speed –Sometimes students speak faster or slower when they are nervous. If you speak too fast - ‘gabble’ - then you become difficult to understand and your message is lost. If you speak too slowly, then your audience will lose interest and think of something else.∙Pauses –when you want to emphasize a certain word or phrase, just pause for a second before; this highlights the word. If you really want to make the word stand out, pause before and after the word! Pauses also allow theaudience to think about what you just said.∙Non-Verbal Communication - the main requirement is for you to talk, but you can also support your speech with pictures, objects, music, student models, and the blackboard. Choose the best way to communicate your message?Your presentation can include more than just you speaking and your classmates listening? For example, apresentation can include a demonstration, a chance for your classmates to smell and taste the something, and a chance for them to touch something. You can choose music for them to listen to or a short video for them to watch (watch the time!) You can also bring gifts for your classmates to make them feel better about you and yourpresentation. You decide on the most appropriate way to communicate your message.∙Structure –You should research and plan your presentation (introduction, main body and conclusion). Think about how to generate interest in your topic and how to conclude your speech (avoid rushed “that’s all” endings).∙Time management –your presentation should be no less than 2 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes. You should remember that the longer you talk, the less time your classmates will have to complete the lesson activities.∙Equipment – if you are using a computer, ensure that your PPT or Word document can be read on the classroom computer. Nothing can destroy your confidence more than trying to open document that don’t work on theclassroom computer. Familiarize yourself with the computer operations before the class begins. You should also remember to switch on and off the lights.。
学术英语写作Unit 11 Oral Presentation
Organising the content
Introduction (may be written last) Capture your listeners’ attention: Begin with a question, a funny story, a startling comment, or anything that will make them think. State your purpose; for example: ‘I’m going to talk about...’ ‘This morning I want to explain…’ Present an outline of your talk; for example: ‘I will concentrate on the following points: First of all…Then… This will lead to… And finally…’
Preparing your oral presentation (2) Nhomakorabea
Then........ Brainstorm your topic and write a rough outline. Research your topic. Don’t get carried away— remember you have a limited time for your presentation. Organise your material and write a draft—think about the length of time you have to talk. Summarise your draft into points to write on overheads and/or cards. Plan and prepare your visual aids. Rehearse your presentation and get its length right. Ask a friend to listen and time you.

oralpresentation英语作文
oralpresentation英语作文Oral PresentationPublic speaking is an essential skill that is highly valued in many professional and academic settings. The ability to effectively communicate ideas, share information, and engage an audience through an oral presentation is a critical competency for success. Whether it's presenting research findings, pitching a business proposal, or leading a team meeting, the art of oral presentation can make a significant impact on the way information is received and understood. One of the primary benefits of developing strong oral presentation skills is the opportunity to showcase your knowledge and expertise on a particular topic. By delivering a well-structured and engaging presentation, you can demonstrate your command of the subject matter, your ability to synthesize complex information, and your capacity to convey that information in a clear and concise manner. This can be particularly valuable in academic or professional settings, where the ability to effectively communicate ideas can lead to recognition, advancement, and new opportunities. Moreover, oral presentations can also serve as a platform for personal growth and development. The act of standing in front of an audience and delivering a presentation can be a nerve-wracking experience, especially for those who may be more introverted or shy. However, with practice and preparation, individuals can overcome their fears and develop greater confidence in their public speaking abilities. This confidence can then translate to other areas of their personal and professional lives, empowering them to take on new challenges and become more effective communicators. In addition to the personal benefits, oral presentations can also play a crucial role in the dissemination of information and the advancement of knowledge. By sharing their research, insights, or findings through an oral presentation, individuals can contribute to the broader discourse within their field, sparking discussions, generating new ideas, and potentially influencing the direction of future research or decision-making.One of the key elements of an effective oral presentation is the ability to engage the audience and maintain their attention throughout the duration of the presentation. This can be achieved through a variety of techniques, such as the use of visual aids, storytelling, humor, and interactive elements. By creating a dynamic and engaging presentation, presenters can help their audience better retain the information being conveyed and leave a lasting impression.Another important aspect of oral presentations is the ability to adapt to the needs and expectations of the audience. Effective presenters understand that different audiences may have varying levels of familiarity with the topic, different learning preferences, and different expectations regarding the structure and delivery of the presentation. By tailoring their approach to the specific audience, presenters can ensure that the information is presented in a way that is accessible, relevant, and meaningful to the participants. In conclusion, the art of oral presentation is a valuable skill that can have a significant impact on personal and professional success. By developing the ability to effectively communicate ideas, share information, and engage an audience, individuals can open up new opportunities, enhance their personal and professional growth, and contribute to the advancement of knowledge within their respective fields. Whether it's delivering a research presentation, leading a team meeting, or pitching a business proposal, the mastery of oral presentation skills can be a powerful tool for success.。

Oral presentationHave you ever heard of Dazu Rock Carvings?Located in southwest China,it is the only World cultural Heritage site in Chongqing Municipality. Most of the grottoes in Southwest China which were made of sandstone were in the open air. Due to the weak strength of sandstone, the shape, internal structure and composition of rock will change under the influence of external environment, resulting in various weathering diseases. To understand the weathering mechanism of sandstone statues in Southwest China, the three experiments were set up, including dry–wet cycle, freeze–thaw cycle and acid rain cycle. This paper first introduces the experimental sample and experimental process, including sample preparation, basic physical parameters of sandstone, experimental conditions and test facilities. Secondly, the weathering degree of sandstone after different cycles is evaluated by the mass, surface hardness and P wave velocity of sandstone after different cycles. We can understand the failure characteristics of sandstone through the change of indicators. Finally, the weathering mechanism of sandstone is analyzed by analyzing its mineral composition and microstructure. Various devices such as XRD and SEM were used to assist. The experimental results showed that the deteriorated features of samples were the granular disintegration under the different experimental conditions, and the samples showed a decreased trend as a whole in the mass, surface hardness and P-wave velocity with the increase of periods. The deterioration degrees afecting the granular disintegration of sandstone followed this order: acid rain cycle, freeze–thaw cycle, dry–wet cycle. The sandstone experienced the granular disintegration due to the combined efects of the internal factors (i.e., mineral transformation) and external factors (i.e., the acid rain, temperature and humidity). The findings could provide useful insights for the protection of the studied statues.。
