If you are stared at for more than necessary, you will look at yourself up and down to see if there is anything wrong with you. 42 . Eyes do speak, right?Looking too long at someone may seem to be rude and aggressive. 43 .

With about 14 shops down every day, Britain’s high streets are dying little by little.2 It’s fairly easy to understand. To start with, people are spending less because of the economic recessi on(衰退). On top of that, more and more people are using the Internet to do their shopping. And it is not easy for shopkeepers in the high streets, either.3 Finally, there are the out-of-town retail parks with free car parking that sell just about everything at very low prices. What can be done? Prime Minister David Cameron has hired Mary Portas, a British business woman and star of TV show Mary Queen of Shops, to bring some life back into Britain’s high streets. She's talked about creating “magnets(磁石)” to attract people back to the centre. 4 In one town, a bicycle rickshaw(人力车) service is delivering people's shopping to their homes. 5 , where children can be cared for while parents are shopping.Members of the public have also voiced their opinions. “My ideal shopping center is one where there’s a wide selection of attractive looking shops, with cheap parking and good public transport links,” said a 28-year-old man. “I’d like to see Night Shopping evenings where shops are open through to 10 pm or later,” said a 22-year-old girl.A. When all of the research has been completed and all of the sentences are structured well, but the paper still lacks some pizzazz(活力),it can be boring to grade. If you are searching for ways to help your students find their voices, why not try making students themselves the topic of the writing? 1Who are you?One of the most difficult questions for students to answer is: “Who are you?” 2 In doing this, through writing, students will start to see their personalities differently and, hopefully, be able to add a feature to their writing.Dear John3Encourage them to write to a famous person they’ve always admired, and then the one they absolutely hate. Explore how their language changes between the two letters. When students know their audiences, it is much easier for them to add the kind of personality their audience wants to see.4When students write about what matters most to them, they will often give you the best writing you’ve ever seen. You’ll get those when you ask questions that hit home. When students have something to say about a given topic, it can be easier for them to get their ideas down and then work on their writing style.Get the words on paper, and then edit themThe most valuable lesson students can learn is to write first, and edit later. Have students written for five minutes about their topics. If they can get their ideas down on paper, that’s 90% of the battle. 5 This can help them realize that, once they have the ideas down, the rest is just fine tuning(微调). Once they have this skill mastered, it’s easy for them to start adding their own personal voices to their papers.A.What matters to you?B. What style is taught in class?C. When they write about themselves, students’ voices often shine through.D. Writing letters is a great way for students to explore their writing style.E. Changing your sleeping time by more than an hour can severely disturb your sleep quality. 1 For example,if you normally wake up at 6 am on weekdays to get to work, you might go to bed around 10 pm,because that’s when you start to feel sleepy, and it’s also a good time to ensure 8 hours of sleep. If,on the weekend, you sleep until 9 a.m,you probably won’t be able to fall asleep that night until 1 a.m.2. 2 Wait at least three hours after dinner before going to sleep. Digestion slows down while asleep, and a full stomach may interrupt sleep .Similarly, you should avoid going to bed on an empty stomach,as a completely empty stomach may equally disturb your sleeping patterns.3. 3 Exposure to light during the time when you’re supposed to be sleeping can disrupt your body’s internal clock. To answer this question, we must step back and ask : 3A true leader wants nothing more than to make people stand on their own, as leaders in their own right. Some studies will find that a behavior “contributes to” or is “associated with” an outcome; this does not mean that a certain course must lead to a certain result. 73 Carefully read or listen to information in order to fully understand it.Use your common sense. If a report seems too good to be true, probably it is. Be especially careful of information contained in advertisements. 74 Evaluate “scientific” statements carefully, and be aware of quackery(江湖骗术).75 Friends and family members can be a great source of ideas and inspiration, but each of us needs to find a healthy lifestyle that works for us.Developing the ability to evaluate reasonably and independently about the health problems will serve you well throughout your life.A. 语篇精讲浏览选项(抓住选项中的关键词,以便有目的性的通读文章)通读文章Being Left-handed in a Right-handed WorldThe world is designed for right-handed people, but why does a tenth of the population prefer the left? 71The answer to it remains a bit of a mystery. Since scientists have noticed left-handedness tends to run in families, it’s assumed that left-handedness has a genetic(基因的)component to it.72 In fact, identical twins, who share the same genes, can sometimes prefer to use different hands. There are also plenty of theories on what else might determine which hand you write with, but many experts believe that it’s kind of random.Historically, the left side and left-handedness have been considered a negative thing by many cultures.73 In some areas, the left hand became known as the “unclean” hand. In many religions, the right hand of God is the favored hand. For example, Jesus sits at God’s right side.God’s left hand, however, is the hand of judgment. Various activities and expressions become rude or even signs of bad luck when the left hand becomes involved. In some parts of Scotland, it is considered bad luck to meet a left-handed person at the start of a journey. 74 A person giving directions will put left hand behind them and even physically try to point with their right hand if necessary. In some Asian countries, eating with the left hand is considered impolite,75 People come to realize that left-handedness is natural. People even noticed that many famous peopleare left-handed, including Benjamin Franklin, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Charlie Chaplin. Some researchers find out that lefties are more creative and can deal with abstract thinking better. The left-handedness is more easily adaptable to the right-handed world as well. Being left-handed is no longer a sad story now: instead, it is a wonderful gift or maybe it is something you should take pride in.A. In other words, left-handers are born that way.B. Left-handedness are used to be regarded as a disability.C. The unfavorable associations of the use of the left hand among cultures are varied.D. Why do they prefer to use their left hand rather than their right hand for routine activities?E. Why do some parents force their left-handed children to become right-handed when writing?F. In Ghana, pointing, gesturing, giving or receiving items with the left hand is considered rude.G. Fortunately, nowadays most societies and cultures no longer reject left-handedness like before.逐题分析语篇解读:本文为说明文。
