Answer the questions on each text by choosingA.,B.,C.Sport is not only physically challenging, but it can also be mentally challenging. Criticism from coaches, parents, and other teammates, as well as pressure to win can create an excessive amount of anxiety or stress for young athletes. Stress can be physical, emotional, or psychological, and research has indicated that it can lead to burnout. Burnout has been described as dropping or quitting of an activity that was at one time enjoyable. The early years of development are critical years for learning about oneself. The sport setting is one where valuable experiences can take place. Young athletes can, for example, learn how to cooperate with others, make friends, and gain other social skills that will be used throughout their lives. Coaches and parents should be aware, at all times, that their feedback to yo ungsters can greatly affect their children. Youngsters may take their parents' and coaches' criticisms to heart and find flaws (缺陷) in themselves.Coaches and parents should also be careful that youth sport participation does not become work for children. The outcome of the game should not be more important than the process of learning the sport and other life lessons. In today' s youth sport setting, young athletes may be worrying more about who will win instead of enjoying themselves and the sport. Following a game, many parents and coaches focus on the outcome and find fault with youngsters' performances. Positive reinforcement should be provided regardless of the outcome. Research indicates that positive reinforcement motivates and has a greater influence on learning than criticism. Again, criticism can create high levels of stress, which can lead to burnout.28、 An effective way to prevent the burnout of young athletes is ______ .A. to make sports less competitiveB. to make sports more challengingC. to reduce their mental stressD. to increase their sense of success29、 According to the passage sport is positive for young people in that ______ .A. it can help them learn more about societyB. it teaches them how to set realistic goals for themselvesC. it enables them to find flaws in themselvesD. it can provide them with valuable experiences30、 Many coaches and parents are in the habit of criticizing young athletes ______ .A. without realizing criticism may destroy their self confidenceB. in order to make them remember life' s lessonsC. believing that criticism is beneficial to their early developmentD. so as to put more pressure on them31、 According to the passage parents and coaches should ______ .A. help children to win every gameB. pay more attention to letting children enjoy sportsC. enable children to understand the positive aspect of sportsD. train children to cope with stress32、 The author' s purpose in writing the passage is ______ .A. to persuade young children not to worry about criticismB. to stress the importance of positive-reinforcement to childrenC. to discuss the skill of combining criticism with encouragementD. to teach young athletes how to avoid burnoutPart BDirections:Read the text from a magazine article in which several people expressed their different opinions on the same issue. Please match the name of eachperson to one of the statements given below.GuiseI used to think I had to do all of them, and I was doing them all the time, from the moment I woke up until I flew out the door for work... Then one day I went to see the counselor and he suggested I experiment by not making my bed for two weeks... It' s incredible. I never felt better. And you know what?I don' t dry my dishes anymore ,either. I discovered I had choices in my life and my life is so much different now.HoltzI used to take better care of my house and car than I did of myself. I put everyone else' s needs ahead of my own. That' s fine if it' s occasional. It would even be okay if there was a balance. But then one day I realized I was wearing myself out. Fortunately, yes, and that' s the key, too. I know life doesn' t have to be like that. The point is to do something for myself every day.LeghI got busy and ran short of time. I stopped exercising and started to skip meals, then I stole time from my sleep. Soon I found myself too busy to see morn and dad and friends. I stopped reading and playing ball, and six months went by without a long walk... Then I realized that was not a great way to live. I' ve got to change. I know where to begin. I picked them up one by one.ClanIt took a long time for me to realize that fax machines and cellular phones don' t save time but merely speed up the already hectic pace of life. And trying to be more efficient isn' t the key, either. That' s just a way of cramming more into less time. I then came to realize that we really should be aiming to do less and enjoy it more. And the thing is I never bring my briefcase home from the office any more.JellyI didn' t know what I was busy doing. I only knew I was terribly tired and needed to take a nap. I needed to take a walk. I needed to sit down and lean back. I believed in it, you know, save the best for the last. Then I realized it probably would never happen if it always got left until last. Work before health and pleasure soon becomes work instead of health and pleasure. Thank God I' m so different now. I' m so very, very back. Now match each of the persons with the appropriate statement.Note: there are two extra statements.Stat ementsA. I can be less than perfect.B. Exercise, leisure, friendships and hobbies should also be regular aspects of life.C. Change "others first" into "me, too".D. Physical and mental enjoyments are as important as work.F. Work even more efficiently.G. Enjoy my office and family life.33、 Guise34、 Holtz35、 Legh36、 Clan37、 JellySection ⅣWritingYou should write your responses to both Part A and Part B of this section.Part A38、 Write an invitation letter to your friend Jane, and invite her to participate in a party.Part B39、Directions:Write a composition on the information shown in the following table. Nowadays, more and more young people are becoming too proud and over-confident.
They think they can do everything. So they simply ignore their old parents, and believe that their parents’ experienced thoughts are out of date. Actually I used to be one of them, but after hearing a story told by my father, I changed my mind completely. Now I would like to share it with all of you.
Once, there’s a young man who look down on the old. He always thought that the old were just nuisances in your busy life, a useless life that was going to wither. He also did this to his father.
One day, the father and the son happened to meet each other in the grove. The son suggested that they should take a walk together. As they walked, a beautiful garden came into their sight.
The son pointed to one of the prettiest flower and said:” We young people are like this fragrant flower, so healthy, so vigorous, and full of spirit. What about you oldsters? Just like the falling leaves from a dying tree.”
Hearing this, the father smiled butsaid nothing. They continued the walking in silence. When they passed a grocery, the father stopped and went in, he bought a walnut and show it to his son, slow and gracious, he said:”we old are like this walnut. We’ve experienced many hard events in life.So we built up such a firm shell, and at the same time we also built up a pure inner world. Every fruit is so full-grown.’
‘But every fruitwasborn by flower” Refutedthe son.
‘Yes, but not every flower can bear fruit….’
From then on, I always keep this story in my mind. It has taught me a lot.
We should try to be a flower that can bear fruit. We also have to know that our parents aren’t nuisances,
Useless lives or falling leaves but are experienced walnuts, masterpiece of nature. They are the ones we should appreciate forever.。
