What do these terms mean and how can these terms help you choose a preschool?Oftentimes, the key difference between settings is connected to the preschool’s “educational philosophy”. While educational philosophies are numerous and their definitions are not set in stone, we have provided you with definitions for some of the most popular philosophies. The Montessori MethodFocuses on maintaining the individuality of each child in the learning process. This method believes each child learns at their own pace and educational progress should not be rendered based on comparing students to one another. The Reggio Emilia ApproachThis approach focuses on providing opportunities for problem solving through creative thinking and exploration. The Waldorf ApproachThis approach places an emphasis on imagination in learning, providing students with opportunities to explore their world through the senses, participation and analytical thought. The Bank Street ApproachThis approach places an emphasis on learning through multiple perspectives, both in the classroom setting and in the natural world. The High/ Scope ApproachThis approach focuses on letting children be in charge of their own learning. Children are taught to make a plan for what they would like to do each day and participate in a review session to discuss the success of their plan and brainstorm ideas for the next day.Outside of the formal educational philosophy, knowing the difference between other common early childhood terms will help you make informed decisions regarding your child’s education.1. If a pre-school stresses each child’s learning progress, it may employ ___________.A. The Reggio Emilia ApproachB. The Montessori MethodC. The Bank Street ApproachD. The Waldorf Approach2. According to the passage, which of the following is True ?A. The Scope Approach is to let children learn all by themselves.B. The definitions of educational philosophy remain the same.C. To some extent, educational philosophies determine the differences between preschools.D. The most confusing part about choosing pre-school is to choose educational philosophy.BDeep among the streams and kauri trees of rural south Auckland, New Zealand's newest and most alternative school is in session. The weather is fine so a bout of (一次) fishing is in order, followed by lunch cooked on an open fire. Homework and classes? Indefinitely dismissed.“We are called a school but we look nothing like any school out there,” saysJoey Moncarz, cofounder and head teacher at Deep Green Bush School. “We don't do things like telling kids it is time to write or learn math. When they are interested in doing it, they do it.”Moncarz is an exmainstream teacher. After five disappointing years in mainstream schools in New Zealand he quit to found Deep Green Bush School, which has a roll of eight, and no classroom walls, time out chairs (罚坐椅) or tests.Concerned that mainstream schools were not preparing children for the global problems of the future — such as climate change — Moncarz imagined a totally different kind of education, rooted in the primal skills of hunting, gathering and survival. If the weather allows, pupils spend the majority of their day outdoors, exploring the New Zealand bush, learning to fish and hunt, trapping possums and learning about the plants and animals of their home. The more traditional school skills, such as reading, writing and arithmetic, are acquired at their own pace, after they begin showing an interest in them.“We don't have what you'd traditionally consider problem kids,” says Moncarz. “Our parents saw their kids were unhappy and stressed in mainstream education and they started questioning: Is it normal or right for kids to come home stressed and unhappy? Having taught in a mainstream school, I'd say most kids are stressed and unhappy.”Bush School is registered with the Ministry of Education as an independent school, and therefore does not have to abide_by the standard New Zealand curriculum, although it is subject to ministerial regulation.Inspired by the Sudbury Valley School in the US, which in turn was inspired by A. S. Neill's Summerhill School in the UK, since launching in January Moncarz has been fielding requests from around New Zealand and abroad to open chapters of Bush School in places as far a field as China and Europe.Moncarz insists that the school isn't an “experiment” in education, and is basedon two million years of evidence of how parents have raised their kids, at one with nature. “We don't want to be one of a kind. We want to replace mainstream schools,” said Moncarz.3.What can the students do in Deep Green Bush School?A.Learn more practical living skills.B.Attend more diverse athletic contests.C.Study traditional courses more effectively.D.Join in environmental protection more actively.4.Why did Moncarz set up Deep Green Bush School?A.To help problem kids.B.To reduce parents' burden.C.To reform the traditional school system.D.To conduct an educational experiment.5.What does the underlined part “abide by” in Paragraph 6 probably mean?A.Obey. B.Assess.C.Monitor. D.Replace.6.What is the education system of Deep Green Bush School like?A.Unpractical and rigid.B.Unsatisfactory but strict.C.Unremarkable but fruitful.D.Unconventional and popular.参考答案完形填空[语篇解读]文章主要通过对秋天的赞誉来启发对于生活的思考。

Across the industrialized world, large numbers of survey respondents tell researchers they’re overburdened withwork, at the expense of time with family and friends.Butthe total time people are working, whether paid or otherwise, has not increasedin Europ e or North America in recent decades. What’s more, the date also showthat the people who say they’re the busiest generally aren’t.Part of the answer is simple economics. Aseconomies grow, and the incomes of the better-off have risen over time, timehas literally become more valuable: Any given hour is worth more, so weexperience more pressure to squeeze in more work. But it’s also a result of the kind of workin which many of us are engaged. In the past, farming work was subject toweather limits, while at present people live in an “unlimited world,”and there are always more incoming emails, more meetings, more things to read, and digital mobile technology means you have a few more to-do list items. With time pressure weighing us down, it’shardly surprising that we livewith one eye on the clock. But psychologicalresearch demonstrates that this time-awareness actually leads to worseperformance. So the ironic consequence of the “busy feeling” is thatwe could handle to-do list less well than if we weren’t so ru shed.Arguable worst of all, the feeling of rushspreads to affect our leisure time, so that even when life finally does permitan hour or two for recovery, we end up feeling that leisure time should bespent “productively,” too.If there’s a solution to th e busynessepidemic, other than the universal 21-hourworkweek, it may lie in clearly realizing just how reasonable our attitudeshave become. Historically, the ultimate symbol of wealth, achievement andsocial superiority was the freedom not to work. Now, it’s busyness that hasbecome the indicator of high status. “The best-off in our society areoften very busy, and have to be,” says Gershunny. “You ask me, am Ibusy, and I tell you: Yes, of course I’m busy because I’m an importantperson!”Too often we measure our worth not by theresults we achieve, but by how much of our time we spend. We live crazy lives,at least in part, because it makes us feel good about ourselves.(1)According to the author, people’s feeling about busyness results from_______.A . the longer working timeB . the sacrifice of family timeC . the increase in time valueD . the change of working partners(2)Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?A . The solution to busyness is applying a 21-hour workweek.B . The feeling of being burdened spells low productivity.C . If people had leisure time, they would relax themselves.D . Freedom is overrepresented in the current society.(3)What does the passage mainly concerned with?A . The measurement of wealth in the current society.B . The evolution of people’s attitude towards busyness.C . The hidden reasons and effects of people’s busyness.D . The solution to prioritizing the crucial tasks in busyness.19. 阅读理解A tiny clue found in ancient deposits hasunlocked big secrets about Greenland’s past and future climate. Just beyond thenorthwest edge of the vast Greenland Ice Sheet, researchers have discoveredlake mud that have survived the last ice age. The mud, and remains of commonflies in it, record two interglacial periods(间冰期)innorthwest Greenland.Although researchers have long known thesetwo periods—the early Holocene and Last Interglacial—experienced warming in theArctic, the mix of fly species shows that Greenland was even warmer thanpreviously thought. “As far as we know, it has never been found inGreenland. We think this is the first time anyone has reported it in ancientdeposits or modern lakes there,” Axford said. “We were reallysurprised to see how far north it migrated .”This new information could help researchersbet ter measure Greenland’s sensitivity to warming, by testing and improvingmodels of climate and icesheet behaviour. Those models could then improvepredictions of how Greenland’s ice sheet might respond to man-made globalwarming. After all, Greenland covers 80 per cent of the Arctic country andholds enough ice to equal 20 feet of global sea level. “Northwest Greenlandmight feel really remote, but what happens to that ice sheet is going to matterto everyone in every coastal city around the world,” said Yarrow Axford,an associate professor in the team. “One of the big uncertainties inclimate science is how fast the Earth changes when it gets warmer. Geologygives us an opportunity to see what happened when the Earth was warmer thantoday,” said Axford.People mig ht be surprised to see how today’sGreenland looked during the last two interglacial periods. During the LastInterglacial, global sea levels increased by 15 to 30 feet, largely due tothinning of Greenland and Antarctica’s ice sheets. However, now researcher sbelieve northern Greenland’s ice sheet experienced stronger warming thanpreviously thought, which could mean that Greenland is more responsible forthat sea-level rise.Finding lake deposits older than about10,000 years, however, has been historically very difficult in Greenland. Tomeasure these ancient temperatures, researchers look to ice cores and lake deposits. Since ice and lake deposits form by a gradualbuildup on annual layers of snow or mud, these cores contain history of thepast. By looking through the layers, researchers can obtain climate clues fromcenturies ago.(1)Why are the remains of flies mentioned in the first two paragraphs?A . They serve as evidence that there is still life in the NorthwestGreenland.B . They were one of the many ancient lives that were left in the Greenland mud.C . They help the researchers realize that there was once a warm period in the Arctic.D . They are indicators that Greenland was much warmer than previously thought.(2)The new information about Greenland is important because______________.A . researchers have no idea how to measu re Greenland’s warming speedB . it can help researchers better predict Greenland’s response to warmingC . people should be more sensitive to the changes in the ice in GreenlandD . it is uncertain how fast the Earth changes with man-made global warming(3)Which of the following can be inferred from the passage?A . It is easier for today’s scientists to find ancient lake deposits.B . People are surprised at the landscape feature of Greenland today.C . Greenland holds enough ice that might one day threaten life in coastal cities.D . Researchers measure the changing temperatures by directly examining mud.(4)Which do you think is the best title of the passage?A . Greenland Used to Be Much GreenerB . Earth Once Experienced Warm PeriodsC . Coastal Cities Warned of Coming DisastersD . Northwest Greenland,A Perfect Destination20. 阅读理解This is my origin story: when I was ateenager I wrote terrible poetry. Like really bad. Worse than yours, I bet. Alot of it about how every little thingreminds me that we’re all g oing to dieone day. I wrote collections and collections of these poems, thinking one day Iwould have my moment. I named one collection, ironically, The EternalOptimist. In 1996, I found an advert for theInternational Poetry Competition. I was 16 years old and ready for my poetry tobe released on the world. Not only was it a competition with a cash prize, butit was poetry, which I wrote, and international. This was my ticket to becomingworld-famous. I submitted a poem called Trail of Thought. If you ever wrote badpoetry as a teenager, you’ll have written something like it. In the poem, Iwent for a walk and noticed small poignant things in nature, and each onereminded me that we were all going to die one day.I filled out the form, printed off the poemand sent it off, fingers crossed. I waited to hear back, I carried on writing,I probably finished another collection. Then I got a letter from theInternational Society of Poets. I opened the envelope carefully, just in case aprize-winning cheque fell out. I hadn’t won. But, they liked my poem enough toinclude it in their anthology, Awaken to a Dream. Iclosed my eyes, I wanted to scream with happiness. I was going to be apublished poet. All I had to do in order to be publishedwas accept the terms and pay £ 45 for an anthology. If Ididn’t buy a copy of the anthology, my poem wouldn’t be included. I had toconvince my mum, who thought my writing a meaningless pastime, to part with £50. She even asked the question: “Why do you have to pay to be in thisbook?” Nevertheless, she wrote a cheque for £ 50 and Ireturned it with myletter of agreement.I was 16 and about to be a published poet. This was what it had all been about. This is what it had all been leading to.The months waiting for the anthology were a torture. I hi t some sort of writer’sblock, I couldn’t write anything. It was almost as if, now I was published, itmattered more what I committed to page and I didn’t want to write anything downunless it was good enough to go into an anthology like Awaken to a Dream. The book arrived through the post. Here itwas. The first thing I had ever been published in a book called Awaken to aDream, featuring a blistering take on the mundanity of mortality by yours truly. I opened the package to find a book, containing my work. The first thing that struck me about the book was that itwas bigger than A4. And it was thick. And on each page was a poem, next toanother poem, next to another. The type was small and the paper thin enough totrace with. With three or four poems per page and more than 700 pages, I had asinking realization. This was a scam, an illegal trick for making money. If each poem had cost the author £ 45, theywere sitting on a fortune. I felt ashamed. Everyone who had submitted somethingto the International Poetry Comp etition had fallen for the same hustleas me. I couldn’t bring myself to show my mum. And she never askedto see it. Perhaps she thought if the price of me learning a lesson was £50 wedidn’t really have, then so be it.But that stayed with me, that moment ofrealization. Because I determined to keep writing and ensure that my preciouswords always found a homeworthy of them. Or at least that’s how, more than 20years later, I justify falling for a scam. Because your first time beingpublished should be special, and if I don’t convince myself that there was areason for my first poem being in a vanitybook, thenwhat good was it in the first place? And, strangely, someone is selling thisbook on Amazon at the moment. I wonder how many other writers who went on to domore stuff are in there.(1)What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 1 mean?A . The author was sure he was going to die like everyone else.B . The author was considering writing positive poems instead of terrible ones.C . The author was worried the tragedies in the poetry would happen to him.D . The author was optimistic about the publication of his poetry.(2)When the author received the letter from the organizing committee, he felt _______.A . upsetB . calmC . excitedD . surprised(3)While waiting for the anthology, the author _____________.A . set a higher criterion for his future worksB . reflected on what he had written aboutC . felt too miserable to write anything moreD . wondered what future was in store for him(4)The author realized the anthology was a trick from the fact that ___________.A . the poems were of poor qualityB . the organizers just made a quick profitC . he was charged higher than othersD . the content was carelessly edited(5)The passage is mainly about ___________.A . why the author fell for the trick of a poetry competitionB . what it took for a poetry enthusiast to be a published writerC . how a terrible teenage poem taught the author a lifelong lessonD . whether poetry enthusiasts could guard against tricks targeted at them(6)How did the author feel about the scam at the end of the story?A . He laughs best who laughs last.B . A fall into the pit, a gain in your wit.C . Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.D . Follow your own course, and let people talk.四、任务型阅读(每空一词,共10小题,每小题1分,共10分)21. 任务型阅读Pleasureand EnjoymentWhenconsidering the kind of experience that makes life better, most people firstthink that happiness consists in experiencing pleasure: good food, all thecomforts that money can buy. We imagine the satisfaction of traveling toexciting places or being surrounded by expensive devices. If we cannot affordthose goals, then we are happy to settle for a quiet evening in front of thetelevision set with a drink close by.Pleasureis a feeling of contentment that one achieves whenever expectations set by biologicalprograms or by social conditioning have been met. The taste of food when we arehungry is pleasant because it reduces a physiological imbalance. Resting in theevening while passively absorbing information from TV, with alcohol or drugs todull the mind overexcited by thedemands of work, is pleasantly relaxing.Traveling to Acapulco is pleasant because the exciting novelty restores our sensations exhausted by the repetitive routines of everyday life.Whenpeople think further about what makes their lives rewarding, they tend to movebeyond pleasant memories and begin to remember other events, other experiencesthat overlapwith pleasurable ones but fall into a category that deserves a separate name:enjoyment. Enjoyable events occur when a person has not only met someexpectation or satisfied a need or a desire but also gone beyond what he or shehas been programmed to do and achieved something unexpected, perhaps somethingeven unimagined before.Enjoymentis characterized by this forward movement: by a sense of novelty, ofaccomplishment. Playing a close game of tennis that stretches one’s ability isenjoyable, as is reading a book that reveals things in a new light, as ishaving a conversation that leads us to express ideas we didn’t know we had.Closing a contested business deal, or any piece of work well done, isenjoyable. None of these experiences may be particularly pleasurable at thetime they are taking place, but afterward we think back on them and say, “Thatreally was fun” and wish they would happen again. After an enjoyable eventwe know that we have changed, that our self has grown: in some respect, we havebecome more complex as a result of it.Experiencesthat give pleasure can also give enjoyment, but the two sensations are quitedifferent. For instance, everybody takes pleasure in eating. To enjoy food, however, is more difficult. A gourmet enjoys eating, as doesanyone who pays enoughattention to a meal so as to discriminate the various sensations provided byit. As this example suggests, we can experience pleasure without any investmentof psychic energy, whereas enjoyment happens only as a result of unusualinvestments of attention. A person can feel pleasure without any effort, but itis impossible to enjoy a tennis game, a book, or a conversation unlessattention is fully concentrated on the activity.Main contentsDetailed informationPleasure★ Pleasure is a feeling that oneachieves what one has________ona biological or social level.★ Things like good food, exc itingtravelling and a quiet rest can ring one pleasure because they can helprestore one’s physiological balance, reduce one’s heavy ________pressure and save one from boredom.Enjoyment★Enjoyment ________from the achievement of something unexpectedor even unimagined before.★Enjoyment ________asense of novelty and accomplishment such as a close tennis game, a valuablebook and a conversation productive of ideas.________★Pleasure isoften related to the comforts that money can buy, while enjoyment, morelink ed to one’s inner world, makes one feel rewarded and changed for the________.★While someexperiences give both pleasure and enjoyment, some enjoyable ones are notpleasurable when taking place but bring wonderful feelings________.★Pleasurerequires no ________whileenjoyment can never be achieve without the investment of the full ________of attention. Conclusion★Enjoyment is a ________level of pleasure and the two differ fromeach other in several aspects.五、书面表达(满分25分)22. 阅读下面的材料,按要求写150个词左右的短文。
