Memories act as both a help and a hinderance to the success of someone. Many people advise you to learn from the past and apply those memories so that you can effectively succeed by avoiding repeating your past mistakes. On the other hand, people who get too caught up with the past are unable to move on to the future.Elie Wiesel's memoir Night perfectly exemplifies the double nature of memories. Wiesel, a Jewish man, suffered heavily throughout the Holocaust and Night is rife with horrific descriptions of his experience. These memories help to spread the view of what life was like. Through recounting these memories, Wiesel is able to educate world readers about the atrocities committed in hopes that the same blatant violations of human rights are never repeated again. Through reliving the Holocaust through his writing, Wiesel was inspired to become proactive in the battle for civil rights. Some would point to his peaceful actions and the sales of his book and label him a success.Despite the importance of recounting such memories, Wiesel acknowledges the damage that memories can also cause. Following his liberation from the Auschwitz concentration camp, Wiesel was a bitter, jaded man. He could not even write Night until several years later. The end of the novel describes Wiesel's gradual but absolute loss of faith throughout the experience. His past experiences haunted him for several years, rendering him passive. It was not until he set aside his past that he could even focus on the future. Had he remained so consumed with the pain and damage caused in the past, he may never have achieved the success that he has attained.Overall, Wiesel's experiences exemplify the importance of the past as a guide. Wiesel's past experiences helped to guide him in later life, but it was not until he pushed them aside that he could move on. To me this means that you should rely on your past without letting it control you. Allow your past to act as a guide, while making sure that you are also living in the present and looking to the future.。

To be popular often means trying to please everyone. Progress, on the other hand, comes from making difficult decisions that often dont satisfy everyone. Whether its politicians, parents, or even myself, progress has often come from making unpopular decisions. Many politicians have to make unpopular decisions. Abraham Lincoln is revered today but during his lifetime the Civil War was very unpopular. There was rioting over the draft and the destruction of lives and property wasnt popular either. But without the unpopular decisions he made it is hard to imagine what the United States would be like today. My parents also make unpopular decisions. One such decision was when they sent me to summer camp when I was 14.I didnt want to go but it turned out to be a terrific experience. I learned a lot about wildlife and nature. At the time it was not a popular thing to do but I really benefitted from it.。

Here is an assey winned a full score in SAT test writen by a high school girl in my family, this Novermber. The topic is about the individual's contribution to the world development and evolvment.Over 6 billion people exist on Earth, each making his or her way through bustling lives in hope of something better, a reprieve from banal, everyday existence. However unambitious some may be, there is never a dearth of those hoping to make their mark on history, on society, or simply just to validate a reason for existence. While it can easily be conceded that no one human being has made the world the way it is today, one can hardly bereave those whose achievements are so revolutionary of their rightful glory. People throughout history have made tremendous contributions. When one makes a difference in the world, they begin to understand that our world evolves from the symbiosis of the multitudes of individual action.Primarily, we learn about people, places, and the connections between them and we call this history. Religious figures, such as Martin Luther of the Buddha of eastern religions have vast influences on societal norms and practices of their relative peoples. Great philosophers such as Plato, Kant, or V oltaire make entire populations look at the world around them with a more critical eye and question what they know. Revolutions in science by any one person or group of people build on one another to beget the life-saving practices in hospitals today. While one might point out that it was no one person who did these deeds, it was, in act, individuals whose works collectively allowed these accomplishments to reach the level they have. Without the motivation in any individual to strive for something more, we would be little better than Neanderthal cavemen to this day.Thereupon, we can see that individuals have had their sinister effects as well as their beneficial. Human kind learns from the dissonance caused by individuals. When one totalitarian dictator can commit genocide and start a war with millions of casualties, it seems futile to claim that nobody can make a difference. It may have been a country that committed the crime, but it was one man who led them to it. Power of cognition in the human interest allows one person through words, propaganda, or rhetoric to change the lives of those around them as well as their progeny. Can one look at Hitler and say that one man made no impact? The true danger of allowing ourselves the mindset that one person's actions have no serious weight to them lies in stripping humanity of its ambition, the driving force in all improvement. It is due to the fact that all individuals believe they are enough of a force unto themselves that we have political dissent. The reason biopolitical regimes have yet to engulf us is because there are those individuals who refuse to surrender their identity. The essential cornerstone of our freedom is that we are driven to optimism and our belief in ourselves. Passivity and apathy with the excuse of lack of impact is the pitfall that will render us vulnerable to nonentity. The second we, as a human race, begin to question the value of the individual is the very second in time that our individuality is lost. S A T 考试网w w w .s a t b b s .c n网w w w.s a tb b s.c nS A T考试。

“Education has become the main provider of individual opportunity in our society. Just as property and money once were the keys to success, education has now become the element that most ensures success in life.”“教育已经成为我们的社会里个人机会的主要提供者。
就像财富和金钱一度是成功的关键一样,经验现在已经成为确保成功的最重要因素。
”Which factor offers more opportunities for success in our society: education or money and property? In my view, education has replaced money and property as the main provider of such opportunities today. I base my view on two reasons. First, education—particularly higher education—used to be available only to the wealthy but now is accessible to almost anyone. Second, because of the civil-rights movement and resulting laws, businesses are now required to hire on the basis of merit rather than the kinds of personal connections traditionally common among the wealthy.Education probabl y always played a key role in determining one’s opportunities for success. But in the past, good post-secondary education was available mainly to the privileged classes. Because money and property largely determined one’s access to higher education, money and property really were the critical factors in opening doors to success. However, higher education is more egalitarian today. Given our vast numbers of state universities and financial-aid programs, virtually anyone who meets entrance requirements for college can obtain an excellent college education and open up windows of opportunity in life.Another reason those opportunities will be open to educated young people from middle-class and poorer backgrounds is that hiring is more meritocratic today than ever before. In principle, at least, we have always been a society where all people are equal; yet in the past, children of the wealthy and the well connected could expect to obtain higher-status jobs and to receive better pay. But the laws and programs resulting from our civil-rights struggles have produced a modern business climate in which jobs are available on an equal-opportunity basis, and in which candidates have a legal right to be judged on the merit of their educational background and experience. In conclusion, education is probably the main factor in opening doors to success for young people in our society. The fact that education has supplanted money and property in this role is owing to a more egalitarian system of highereducation, as well as to more merit-based hiring practices that generally value individual education over family fortune or connections.太傻留学SAT考试频道:/sat/。

This past year, I was auditioning for the fall play, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." To my detriment I thought it would be a good idea to watch a relevant movie starred by Elizabeth Taylor in order to prepare. For two hours I studied her mannerisms, attitude, and diction, hoping I could mimic her performance.I auditioned for the part of “Maggie” feeling perfectly confident in my portrayal of Elizabeth Taylor; however, I was unaware that my director saw exactly what I had been thinking. Unfortunately, I didn ‘t get the part, and my director told me that he needed to see “Maggie”from my perspective, not Elizabeth Taylor’s.I learned from this experience, and promised myself I would not try to imitate another actress. Instead, it is imperative to find out my difference, namely, my unique way of acting, in playing a new role. (点题)Persevering, I was anxious to audition for the winter play just two months later. Beethoven,German composer. He is universallyrecognized as one of the greatest composers of theWestern European music tradition. Beethoven's workcrowned the classical period and also effectivelyinitiated the romantic era in music. He is one of thefew artists who genuinely may be consideredrevolutionary.LifeBorn in Bonn, Beethoven showed remarkable talent at an early age. His father, a courtmusician, subjected him to a brutal regimen, hoping to exploit him as a child prodigy. Whilethis plan did not succeed, young Beethoven's gifts were recognized and nurtured by histeachers and by members of the local aristocracy. In 1787 Beethoven first visited Vienna, atthat time the center of the music world. There he performed for Mozart, whom he greatlyimpressed. In 1792 Haydn invited him to become his student, and Beethoven returned to Vienna, where he was to remain permanently. However, Beethoven's unorthodox musical ideasoffended the old master, and the lessons were terminated. Beethoven studied with severalother eminent teachers, including Antonio Salieri, but was developing according to his ownsingular genius and could no longer profit greatly from instruction. Both his breathtaking piano virtuosity and his remarkable compositions won Beethovenfavor among the enlightened aristocracy congregated at Vienna, and he enjoyed theirgenerous support throughout his life. They were tolerant, too, of his notoriously boorishmanners, careless appearance, and towering rages. His work itself was widely accepted, ifcontroversial, and from the end of the 1790s Beethoven was not dependent on patronagefor his income. The year 1801 marked the onset of Beethoven's tragic affliction, his deafness, whichbecame progressively worse and, by 1817, total. Public performance eventually becameimpossible; but his creative work was not restricted. Beethoven never married; however, hewas stormily in and out of love all his life, always with women unattainable because of marriageor station. His personal life was further complicated when he was made the guardian of hisnephew Karl, who caused him much anxiety and grief but towhom he nevertheless remainedfondly attached.Beethoven died, after a long illness, in the midst of a fierce thunderstorm, and legend hasit that the dying man shook his fist in defiance of the heavens.CompositionsBy the 19th cent., Beethoven's work could already be divided into three fairly distinctperiods. The works of the first period include the First (1800) and Second (1802) Symphonies;the first three piano concertos (1795?800); the first group of string quartets (1800); and anumber of piano sonatas, among them the Pathique (1798) and the Moonlight Sonata (1801).Although the compositions of the first period have Beethoven's unmistakable breadth andvitality, they are dominated by the tradition of Haydn and Mozart.Beginning about 1802, Beethoven's work took on new dimensions. The premiere in 1805 ofthe massive Third Symphony, known as the Eroica (composed 1803?), was a landmark incultural history. It signaled a definitive break with the past and the birth of a new era. Thelength, structure, harmonies, and orchestration of the Eroica all broke the formal conventionsof classical music; unprecedented too was its intention to celebrate human freedom andnobility. The symphony was originally dedicated to Napoleon, who at first symbolized toBeethoven the spirit of the French Revolution and the liberation of mankind; however, whenNapoleon proclaimed himself emperor, the disillusioned composer renamed his work the"Heroic Symphony to celebrate the memory of a great man."The works of Beethoven's middle period, his most productive, include the Piano ConcertosNo. 4 (1806) and No. 5 (Emperor Concerto, 1809); the Razumovsky Quartets (1806); his NinthSonata for violin, the Kreutzer Sonata (1803), and his one Violin Concerto (1806); the Fourththrough Eighth Symphonies (1806?2); a number of piano sonatas, among them the Waldsteinand the Appassionata (both 1804). His sole opera, Fidelio, was produced in its first version in1805 and in its final form in 1814. Beethoven wrote four overtures for the opera, three ofthem known as the Leonore Overture. He also composed overtures to Collin's Coriolan (1807)and to Goethe's Egmont (1810). From about 1813 to 1820 there was some slackening inBeethoven's productivity, probably due in part to difficulties concerning his nephew.Beethoven's final period dates from about 1816 and is characterized by works of greaterdepth and complexity. They include the demanding, nearly symphonic Hammerklavier sonata(1818) and the other late piano sonatas; the monumental Ninthcomposed in his last years, areconsidered by many music lovers to be Beethoven's supreme creations, and by some the mostsublime music ever composed. An extraordinarily prolific composer, Beethoven produced, in addition to the worksmentioned, sonatas for violin and piano and for cello and piano; string and piano trios; musicfor wind instruments; miscellaneous piano works, including the popular bagatelle Elise (1810);over 200 songs; a number of shorter orchestral works; and several choral pieces.Beethoven's influence on subsequent composers has been immeasurable. Aside from hisarchitectonic innovations and expansion of the classical sonata and symphony, he brought tomusic a new depth and intensity of emotion that was emulated by later romanticcomposersbut probably never surpassed.以上就是关于贝多芬的SAT写作经典例子的全部内容,非常详细的介绍了他的生活以及作曲的过程。

欺骗类Can deception- pretending that something is true when it is not- sometimes have good results? In literature, many authors benefited from lying about themselves. The Bronte sisters, who are famous for their great literature talent, published their works under male names. They wrote at a time when women’s sole job was confined to doing laundry and cooking. In such a male dominated society, the Bronte sisters had no hopes of publishing their novels under real name. By publishing under different names, the sisters’novels were widely accepted and critically acclaimed. The Bronte sisters demonstrated that lying can be essential at times as their own works would have never been born had they not adopted male names. In the case of American Civil War, many slaves escaped their torturous lives via the Underground Railroad. Along the way, many freed slaves and even white Americans assisted these run-aways by providing food, shelter, and most importantly, by lying to slave catchers about the hiding place or trails of the slaves. By lying, these helpers saved and freed many lives. Without those help, many slaves would have been easily caught by the slave catchers, who were equipped with guns and dogs. Once caught, these slaves would face cruel punishment or even death penalty.Although the helpers lied to slave owners and catchers, they helped many slaves to escape their horrifying lives and consequently led America a step farther in racial equality.以上就是SAT写作高分范文的分享。

In the case of “gay rights”,the majority of Americans oppose people of the same sex marrying, and most of the states’laws reflect this opinion. The U.S. Constitution declares that everyone has the right to pursue happiness, but by banning gay marriages, some may be barred from the happiness of marriage. In addition, many oppose stem cell research because they are angered by the fact that embryos are created and then destroyed. It is said that, in order to be a competely individual thinker, one must ignore what others say. Such advice is certainly true to some extent; unreasonable malice must be forgotten in order to keep some level of self-esteem. However, as with most ideas, this one can not be taken in absolute form. In at least some respects, we need other people in order to understand ourselves. An excellent example of a literary character who could have psychologically benefitted from social interaction is J. Alfred Prufrock from T.S. Eliots poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. In the poem, Prufrck desires a relationship with a woman verymuch, but he refrains from initiating conversation because he fears that he could not hold the interest of a sophisticated lady. Should Prufrock have taken the step to accept other people into his life, he most likely would have discovered, as the reader of the poem certainly did, that he is most articulate. Others would have impressed upon him the beauty of his words and his talent for prose. If Prufrock would have spoken his song a loud, the ladies surely would have shown him what he himself did not understand. Since the ladies would reveal Prufrocks talents to him, it is true that we need others in order to understand ourselves.。

While the same rays of light may enter two different peoples eyes, what they see may be very different. The brain takes the input from the eyes and processes it to form an image. That image is not the only thing the brain produces; it also provides extra information based on generalizations and bias. This unconscious addition of information changes the observation of an object. By attempting to reduce the addition of extraneous information being added to the observation, by being objective, a true observation of an object can be more closely approximated.。

At times, these different situations may cause one to act differently than another would in the same situation. It can be readily stated that “Ease does not challenge us; adversity helps us discover who we are.” Through literature, one can see how this statement proves to be true.In the play, “The Enemy of the People”, by Henrik Ibsen, the protagonist, Dr. Stockholm, faced adversity, and through that, was able to discover his true beliefs and who he was. Before Dr. Stockholm was put in a situation where he had to face adversity, he had lived his life with mild ease and regularity. He acted just like everyone else in the town he lived in. Years later, he discovered that the popular bath houses was infected with bacteria. Determined to spread his findings, Dr. Stockholm went to the newspaper and the local governing office to try and make his discovery known. However, both the paper and the government weren’t as inspired to really let the public know about this serious problem due to the popularity of the bath houses. As a result, Dr. Stockholm was forced to face adversity and find a way to achieve his previously set goal. Through adversity, Stockholm was able to truely see how his personality was. He was able to understand his severe discontent with the government and society as a whole. In essence, Stockholm was able to discover his actual self. This, however, only happened when he was faced with a challenge. The book, “Where the Heart is” by Billie Letts also used adversity to portray it’s characters true being. The protagonist, Novalee Nation, was placed in a situation where she had to realize and conquer adversity. Novalee was a young girl of 17, who was pregnant. She had experienced extreme hardship her whole life in the trailer park environment that she had previously resided in. She also received lots of abuse from her boyfriend who impregnated her. In the story, he had left her stranded in a K-Mart all by herself, while she was pregnant. All alone, Novalle had to find a S A T 考试网w w w .s a t b b s .c nway to keep herself and her baby alive. Along the way, through adversity, Novalle found her true, kind self. She also made countless discoveries through meeting different people. Among those things was her true love for photography and literature, and most of all her yearning for love in her life.In the face of adversity, we all act differently. We each have different ideas and methods that we are accustomed to use for different situations. By acting and making decisions on our own, as we are often times forced to do when given a challenge, we are able to find out who we truely are and what we truely believe in. The characters Dr. Stockholm and Novalee Nation are examples of that kind of people in literature. However, in literature and life, it is all the same. Ease does not challenge us; adversity helps us discover who we are.Score Explanation SAT 写作6分范文点评This response demonstrates clear and consistent mastery. The writer effectively and insightfully develops the point of view that, in “acting and making decisions on our own, as we are often times forced to do when given a challenge, we are able to find out who we truely are and what we truely believe in.” The writer also demonstrates outstanding critical thinking by focusing on two literary examples, Dr. Stockmann from An Enemy of the People and Novalee Nation from Where the Heart Is, to support this position. First, the essay describes how Dr. Stockmann lived a “life with mild ease” until he alone tried to spread the news of a public health hazard. Through this adversity, he came to understand “his severe discontent with the government and society as a whole.” Next, the essay explains Novalee’s life of hardship and abuse and her final abandonment by her boyfriend. Forced to find a way to “keep herself and her baby alive,” Novalee is able to find “her true, kind self.” The strong organization and focus of the essay allow it to demonstrate clear coherence and smooth progression of ideas. The essay also demonstrates meaningful sentence variety and exhibits skillful use of language (“In the play, ‘The Enemy of the People’, by Henrik Ibsen, the protagonist, Dr. Stockholm, faced adversity, and through that, was able to discover his true beliefs and who he was. Before Dr. Stockholm was put in a situation where he had to face adversity, he had lived his life with mild ease and regularity”). This outstanding essay receives the highest score of 6. It was possible to cure the cancer, but time was precious.Surgery to remove his testicle, three hours, successNext three months, he need a powerful chemotherapy,, a kind of cancer treatment that can bevery hard on the patient. The Senior Itch—the incurable chaffing we all crave to scratch. The cure? Graduation. As we progress through our high school years growing with wisdom and maturity, we all yearn for freedom. Yet what we desire most is not always what is best for us. Although most won&apos&apost want to admit it, extending our high school career to five years would make an important and beneficial impact on our future. With the four years that are currently provided, there is not enough time for motivated students to accomplish their goals before college. Merely being accepted by a selective college or university requires much pre- planned effort that is literally unavailable to students already concerned with grades and other activities.Colleges look most thoroughly at how an applicant used his or her four years of high school. Leadership roles, a dedication to an organization, and a well-rounded, involved student is appealing to the most elite educational institutions. Often, students desire leadership positions in numerous extra- curricular organizations, but face limiting regulations on the number of offices they may hold at one time. Even if a school doesn&apos&apost limit students&apos&apos involvement, students eventually reach the limits of what a 24-hour day can hold. Too often, students cannot participate as much as they want in as many extra-curriculars as they want because there just isn&apos&apost time. With an extra year of high school, those involved in more than one activity could successfully find the time to contribute to and to lead each one. Colleges would see a longer, more developedindividual&apos&aposs resume that included a time for each of their interests. The organizations would benefit from stronger student participation and the students would be recognized for their true efforts as well.Because they struggle to gain leadership roles and become the well-rounded students colleges desire, the task of maintaining a respectable grade- point-average during high school is a struggle for many students. It is difficult to be involved in activities of interest while still keeping high grades. However, collegesdon&apos&apost consider this when they seek applicants with highgrade-point-averages in their admissions pool. Elongating the span of high school would allow more students with both grades and activities on their agenda to spend more time focusing on each separate interest. Rather than feeling forced to crunch a large block of "weighted" classes together in hopes of elevating their GPA, students would find more time to spread out their difficult classes and make the most of every single year. With less pressure and more time, grades would improve for alldedicated students, as would the enjoyment of studying those subjects and the increased retainment of what we learned in those classes.Education aside, many high school students find that four years is not enough time to accomplish their varied goals. For instance, a student may desire a job in addition to school. The money they earn may help pay their way through college. With such a short preparation period before college, they can hardly be expected to make a successful life for themself without the proper funds. Also, many students are interested in community service prior to attending college, but find they do not have enough time in the four-year high school period. Colleges are drawn to students with a rich assortment of community service and evidence of responsibilities such as holding a job, but students have a hard time finding the hours to put into these tasks.High school is the foundation of the rest of our life. Like money in the bank, the investment of an additional year when we are young can make all the difference. With the additional time, motivated students would be able to become more involved in their schools, boost their grades, and find the time for a job and community service. Colleges admire these attributes, and for the sake ofhigh-schoolers&apos&apos acceptance into these institutions, more time should be provided for their endeavors. High school students work hard toward their future. Another year would help ensure their success.官方评语:This essay demonstrates effective skill in responding to the writing task. The essay takes a position on the issue (extending our high school career to five years would make an important and beneficial impact on our future) and offers a critical context for discussion (Yet what we desire most is not always what is best for us). Complexity is addressed as the writer anticipates and responds to acounter-argument to the discussion (Even if a school doesn&apos&apost limit students&apos&apos involvement, students eventually reach the limits of what a 24-hour day can hold). Development is ample, specific and logical, discussing most ideas fully in terms of the resulting implications (Colleges would see a longer, more developed individual&apos&aposs resume that included a time for each of their interests. The organizations would benefit from stronger student participation and the students would be recognized for their true efforts as well). Clear focus on the specific issue in the prompt is maintained.Organization of the essay is clear though predictable. Most of the essay demonstrates logical sequencing of ideas (It is difficult to be involved in activities of interest while still keeping high grades. However, colleges don&apos&apost consider this when they seek applicants with high grade-point-averages in their admissionspool. Elongating the span of high school would allow more students with both grades and activities on their agenda to spend more time focusing on each separate interest). Transitions are used throughout the essay (Although, Even if, However, Rather than) and are often integrated into the essay (Because they struggle to gain leadership roles and become the well-rounded students colleges desire, the task of maintaining a respectable grade- point-average during high school is a struggle for many students). The conclusion and especially the introduction are effective and well developed. The essay shows a good command of language, with precise and varied sentences and word choice (The Senior Itch—the incurable chaffing we all crave to scratch. . . . Merely being accepted by a selective college or university requires much pre-planned effort that is literally unavailable to students already concerned with grades and other activities). There are few errors to distract the reader.

John Nash(1928-)When the young Nash had applied to graduate school at Princeton in 1948, his old Carnegie Tech professor, R.J. Duffin, wrote only one line on his letter of recommendation: "This man is a genius". It was at Princeton that Nash encountered the theory of games, then recently launched by John von Neumann and Oskar Morgenstern. However, they had only managed to solve non-cooperative games in the case of "pure rivalries" (i.e. zero-sum). The young Nash turned to rivalries with mutual gain. His trick was the use of best-response functions and a recent theorem that had just emerged - Kakutani's fixed point-theorem. His main result, the "Nash Equilibrium", was published in 1950 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He followed this up with a paper which introduced yet another solution concept - this time for two-person cooperative games - the "Nash Bargaining Solution" (NBS) in 1950. A 1951 paper attached his name to yet another side of economics - this time, the "Nash Programme", reflecting his methodological call for the reduction of all cooperative games into a non-cooperative framework. His contributions to mathematics were no less remarkable. As an undergraduate, he had inadvertently (and independently) proved Brouwer's fixed point theorem. Later on, he went on to break one of Riemann's most perplexing mathematical conundrums. From then on, Nash provided breakthrough after breakthrough in mathematics. In 1958, on the threshold of his career, Nash got struck by paranoid schizophrenia. He lost his job at M.I.T. in 1959 (he had been tenured there in 1958 - at the age of 29) and was virtually incapicated by the disease for the next two decades or so. He roamed about Europe and America, finally, returning to Princeton where he became a sad, ghostly character on the campus - "the Phantom of Fine Hall" as Rebecca Goldstein described him in her novel, Mind-Body Problem. The disease began to evaporate in the early 1970s and Nash began to gradually to return to his work in mathematics. However, Nash himself associated his madness with his living on an "ultralogical" plane, "breathing air too rare" for most mortals, and if being "cured" meant he could no longer do any original work at that level, then, Nash argued, a remission might not be worthwhile in the end. As John Dryden once put it:Great wits are sure to madness near allied, And thin partitions do their bounds divide.Key words: economist illness Nobel price winner3.法拉第,迈克尔法拉第(1791 -- 1867)是英国物理学家、化学家,也是著名的自学成才的科学家。
