Fill in each of the blanks with the words you have heard on the tape. Write your answer in the corresponding space in your ANSWER BOOKLET. Remember you will hear the passage ONLY ONCE.Good afternoon, folks! Today's topic is try jogging for fitness. When we run for fitness, exercise and pleasure, it is commonly called jogging. Jogging has become very popular in recent years. The popularity of jogging today stems from several factors. First, jogging is one of the most efficient forms of exercise. As a rule, a person jogging burns up more calories per minute than in most other sports. Running, like biking, swimming, and brisk walking, is an aerobic exercise. Such an exercise uses a great deal of oxygen. In addition, it increases the heart rate. Aerobic exercise strengthens the heart muscle so that it pumps more efficiently. This kind of exercise is also one of the best ways to improve our general health and capacity of our lungs. Jogging is also popular because almost every one of us can take part. Jogging is an activity that doesn't require any unusual skills or special coordination. Jogging is relaxing and fun. Finally, it can be done alone, with another person or in a group. For anyone who runs more than 20 miles a week, it is important to have good running shoes. Tennis shoes or sneakers won't do. Running produces stress that is three times greater than the stress of walking. With this added stress to our feet and legs, we need good shoes. The shoes should be replaced when they are worn out or worn unevenly. Cold weather poses a few problems for us joggers. The main hazard in winter-running is slipping on ice or snow. There is no danger of freezing our lungs, because our body warms the air before it reaches our lungs. In winter, we should be sure to cover the head and keep our feet as dry and warm as possible. It's best to wear layers of clothing. In summer, we must be careful not to dry out. So it is important for us to drink plenty of water on hot, humid days.

At that time, inland waterways provided North America's most popular form of long-distance transportation. Travel by rivers was often more convenient than taking a wagon over primitive country roads, especially when shipping heavy loads of farm products or household goods. Where the natural waterways were inadequate, shallow canals were built. The Erie Canal, opened in 1825, connected the Great Lakes with the upper Hudson River. It allowed settlers in the Great Lakes region to send their crops eastward to New York City at the mouth of Hudson at a much lower cost. From there, crops could be shipped to other Atlantic ports. The construction of the Erie Canal also encouraged westward migration along inland waterways and helped populate the frontier. The City of Detroit grew up between two of the Great Lakes. Later a canal joined the Great Lakes with the Mississippi river system and Chicago became a thriving city. Politically the waterway system united the nation in a way few had imagined possible, by the mid-1800s, faster and cheaper railroads became more popular and the canal system declined. Railroads could be used year round whereas canals were often frozen in the winter. During the first third of the century, however, transportation on rivers, lakes and canals aided greatly in the growth of the United States.[分析] 特定信息的找寻和判断。

Almost everything we use in our everyday life comes from nature, ranging from the food we eat, the water we drink, to the wood which is turned into furniture. With the development of technology and population growth, the amount and range of materials used has increased at an alarming rate. However, natural resources are not inexhaustible. Some reserves are already on the brink of exhaustion and there is no hope of replacing them. The widespread water shortage is an example in point. If man continued to squander natural resources with no thought for the future, the later generations would end up selling sand, as is the case in the cartoon, and the whole world would be in a mess.第2题【正确答案】:今天有5600多万美国人在全国各种学校与大学接受教育。

Fish-eaters could stay in one place for several years. However, once man learned to farm, he could live longer in one place. Thus, he was able to build a permanent home. Once again, he built his home with the materials he found at hand. In Egypt, for example, wood was scarce, so most houses were built of bricks made of dried mud, with a roof supported by tree trunks. When the Norsemen came from Scandinavia to northern Europe, they found many forests, so they built homes with a framework of heavy tree trunks and then filled the space between thetrunks with clay. The Eskimos, on the other hand, lived in a land where there was little or no wood. They learned to adapt their homes perfectly to their surroundings. In the wintertime, when everything was covered with snow and ice, the Eskimos built their homes with blocks of ice. When the warm weather came and melted the ice, the Eskimos lived in a tent made of animal skins. The weather is man’s worst natural enemy. He has to protect himself from extremes of heat and cold and from storms, wind and rain. Where there are torrential rains, houses are either built on piles to keep them off the ground, or they have steep thatched roofs to drain off the rain. People living in the Congo River region have found that steep, heavily-thatched roofs drain off the jungle rains more quickly.Protection from danger has also influenced the type of house man builds. When enemies threatened him, man made his house as inaccessible as possible. The tree-dwellers of the Philippines protect themselves by living high above the ground. When danger threatens, they remove the ladders leading to their homes. The cliff dwellers of the American Southwest built their homes high up on the sides of cliffs, where access was very difficult.Nomad tribes must move from place to place, taking care of flocks of sheep that are alwaysin need of fresh grass. Their houses must be simple and easy to transport. The nomads of central Asia have developed a house made of a framework of poles covered with felt. The house is round because the framework is curved, and there is a hole at the top to let the smoke out.1. According to the passage, the Norsemen who came to northern Europe built their houses with__________.(A) rocks and wood(B) wood and clay(C) wooden roofs and stone walls(D) wooden walls and thatched roofs2. Man’s most urgent need in building a house is protection from __________.(A) enemies(B) floods(C) earthquakes(D) the weather3. The passage suggests that a house with a steep sloping roof is more likely to be found__________.(A) in a windy country(B) in a rainy country(C) near the coast(D) in the desert4.When danger threatens, the tree-dwellers of the Philippines __________.(A) take away their ladders(B) bombard the enemy from above(C) pull up the bridge over their moat(D) wind up the ropes leading to their homes5. According to the passage, the nomad tribes of central Asia live in __________.(A) tents(B) tree houses(C) small houses of clay(D) round houses of felt【参考答案】1.B 2.D 3.B 4.A 5.DQuestions 6—10Emma Way did not become a figure of contempt for British cyclists because she nudged Toby Hockley off his bicycle and into a hedge as she drove past him on a country lane on May 19. No, she achieved that infamy by confessing to her crime online. “Definitely knocked a cyclist off his bike earlier,” Way, 22, tweeted after the collision that left Hockley, 29, with a bruised body and the status of a martyr for Britain’s cyclists. “I have right of way —he doesn’t even p ay road tax!” She ended with a hashtag popular with tweeting British motorists: #bloodycyclists. It was the tweet heard around the roads of Britain and it resulted in Way’s being convicted in November of driving offenses, losing her job as a trainee accountant and acknowledging in court that the comment rated “11 out of 10” on the stupidity scale. In an interview on national television after her conviction, she noted that since the story broke, she had been cyberbullied and had received “malicious communications.” What she did not say was that she was sorry for knocking Hockley, a chef, off his bike. “I was quite angry at the mannerism of the cyclist on the road”, she said. “My point of view is that he was on my side of the road —that’s not the way you drive.”Way to stoke the fire, Ms. Way. By continuing to pin the blame for the incident on the cyclist, the young driver fell further into an already considerable chasm that divides modern Britain. The BBC last year featured an hourlong documentary — with lots of footage of raging cyclists and cab drivers —whose title explained the situation succinctly: War on Britain’s Roads. It wasn’t entirely an exaggeration: people are dying in this conflict between cyclists and drivers. London in November seemed like a particularly dangerous place for the two-wheeled combatants. Six cyclists were killed in less than two weeks, a mounting toll chronicled in increasingly mournful headlines. Six in a few days is a lot; the total killed this year in Britain’s capital is 14. The deaths sparked a bout of public recrimination. When London’s Mayor Boris Johnson, himself a cyclist, appeared less than sympathetic after the fifth death — he told a radio host that some of the dead cyclists “have taken decisions that really did put their lives in danger” — he was transformed from cycling champion to heartless pro-car politician and joined Way as a target of the particularly passionate fury that cyclists can muster. The anger has become political in Britain, as it has in many countries whose governments encourage citizens to cycle rather than drive to work, to lessen the impact on the environment and on traffic. Johnson has arguably done more than any previous politician for London cyclists, establishing a $1.6 billion fund to m ake cycling safer in the city and appointing London’s firstcycling commissioner. Even though the number of cyclist deaths in London has been dropping steadily in the past two decades, the demand from cyclists for the city to adapt grows as the number of bikes on the road grows. As does the particularly passionate fury that cyclists can muster.Whether or not Johnson is right that some of the cyclists who died recently were breaking the law, all of us make a very personal decision about risking our lives by getting on our bikes. And we should know that when we ignore red lights to get ahead of the traffic, or get too close to trucks or buses because we feel it’s our right to be there, then we are making a mistake even dumber than Emma Way’s tweet. In the w ar of the cyclist vs. the driver, the driver will nearly always come out alive. Less so the cyclist.6. According to the passage, who had been cyberbullied and had received malicious communications?(A) Toby Hockley.(B) Boris Johnson.(C) Emma Way.(D) A cycling commissioner.7. Which of the following statements is NOT true in the conflict between cyclists and drivers?(A) London seemed like a particularly dangerous place for the cyclists.(B) 14 cyclists were killed in less than two weeks in London.(C) The deaths of cyclists sparked a bout of public recrimination.(D) People are dying in this conflict between cyclists and drivers.8. London’s Mayor has established a $1.6 billion fund __________.(A) to encourage citizens to cycle to work(B) to build more bike lanes in London(C) to lessen the impact on the environment(D) to make cycling safer in London9. According to the passage, a rash of accidents involving cars has made London’s bicyclists __________.(A) outraged(B) alarmed(C) cautious(D) cyberbullied10. What would be the best title for this passage?(A) Cycle rather than Drive to Work(B) Watch your Cycling Manners(C) Pedal at Your Own Peril(D) Lessen the Impact on Traffic【参考答案】6.C 7.B 8.D 9.A 10.CQuestions 11—15Educators have known for 30 years that students perform better when given one-on-one tutoring and mastery learning — working on a subject until it is mastered, not just until a test is scheduled. Success also requires motivation, whether from an inner drive or from parents, mentors or peers. Will the rise of massive open online courses (MOOCs) quash these success factors? Not at all. In fact, digital tools offer our best path to cost-effective, personalized learning. I know because Ihave taught both ways. For years Sebastian Thrun and I have given artificial-intelligence courses at Stanford University and other schools; we lectured, assigned homework and gave everyone the same exam at the same time. Each semester just 5 to 10 percent of students regularly engaged in deep discussions in class or office hours; the rest were more passive. We felt there had to be a better way.So, in the fall of 2011, we tried something new. In addition to our traditional classroom, we c reated a free online course open to anyone. On our first try, we attracted a city’s worth of participants — about 100,000 engaged with the course, and 23,000 finished.Inspired by Nobel laureate Herbert Simon’s comment that “learning results from what th e student does and thinks and only from what the student does and thinks,” we created a course centered on the students doing things and getting frequent feedback. Our “lectures” were short (two- to six-minute) videos designed to prime the attendees for doing the next exercise. Some problems required the application of mathematical techniques described in the videos. Others were open-ended questions that gave students a chance to think on their own and then to hash out ideas in online discussion forums. Our scheme to help make learning happen actively, rather than passively, created many benefits akin to tutoring — and helped to increase motivation. First, as shown in a 2013 study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA, frequent interactions keep attention from wandering. Second, as William B. Wood and Kimberly D. Tanner describe in a 2012 Life Sciences Education paper, learning is enhanced when students work to construct their own explanations, rather than passively listening to the tea cher’s. That is why a properly designed automated intelligent tutoring system can foster learning outcomes as well as human instructors can, as Kurt van Lehn found in a 2011 meta-analysis in Educational Psychologist.A final key advantage was the rapid improvement of the course itself. We analyzed the junctures where our thousands of students succeeded or failed and found where our course needed fine-tuning. Better still, we could capture this information on an hour-by-hour basis. For our class, human teachers analyzed the data, but an artificial-intelligence system could perform this function and then make recommendations for what a pupil could try next to improve — as online shopping sites today make automated recommendations for what book or movie you might enjoy. Online learning is a tool, just as the textbook is a tool. The way the teacher and the student use the tool is what really counts.11. What does the passage mainly discuss?(A) Different sources of motivation for students’ success.(B) Effective one-on-one tutoring and mastery learning.(C) Personalized massive open online courses for students.(D) Considerable improvement of the college courses.12. The word “quash” ( para. 2) is closest in meaning to ______.(A) intensify(B) inspire(C) cancel(D) discount13. When the author and his colleague offered their first online course ______.(A) it attracted about 100,000 city residents to study(B) it created a climate of passivity for introverted students(C) it was designed for both students and working adults(D) it was attended by a great number of students14. The “lectures” in the MOOCs are meant for the students to ______.(A) do and think actively on their own(B) make up for what they miss in classrooms(C) get frequent feedback from mentors and peers(D) focus on what they need most15. One way online courses are similar to online shopping sites is that ______.(A) they make recommendations for what users do next(B) they function automatically for thousands of young students(C) they are a boon to computer-savvy students and shoppers(D) they update their contents on an hour-by-hour basis【参考答案】11.C 12.C 13.D 14.A 15.AQuestions 16—20Most people have seen bullies in action, making life miserable for others. Their targets often escape the intimidation relatively unharmed, but sometimes it is too much to bear. That can be true whether the victim is a 12-year-old girl or a 136-kilogram American football player.A member of the Miami Dolphins left the National Football League team recently because he was repeatedly insulted and threatened by a teammate, Richie Incognito. Many fans were disgusted by details of Incognito's expletive-filled voice mail and text messages, while others defended his behavior as a natural part of a rough-and-tumble sport. Some people are astonished that Jonathan Martin, who is 1.95 meters tall, “could actually be emotionally damaged by taunts from a teammate, ” the columnist Timothy Egan wrote recently in The Times. “Can you possibly hurt a hulk with words? ” Based on his own experience playing football in high school, Mr. Egan argues that you can. He was smaller than the other guys and had a big, unruly head of hair that made him stand out. His teammates taun ted him. “Did it hurt? Yes it did, ” he wrote. “I knew very well what it felt like to give so much to a game and have people who were part of it, his teammates, hurt him. ”Bullies aren’t all men. The Times reported recently that scientists had made big strides in understanding aggression by young women. “The existence of female competition may seem obvious to anyone who has been in a high school cafeteria or singles bar, ” John Tierney wrote, “but analyzing it has been difficult because it tends to be mo re subtle and indirect (and a lot less violent) than the male variety. ”Researchers found that women were more likely to make mean comments about other women if they saw them as competition for male attention. In an experiment, a group of female college students reacted negatively when a woman wearing a low-cut blouse and a short skirt entered the room, while they barely noticed the same woman dressed in a T-shirt and jeans.?But in perhaps one difference between the sexes, instead of confronting the woman directly, the others made fun of her once she left the room.?” Women are indeed very capable of aggressing against others, especially women they perceive as rivals,” said Dr. Tracy Vaillancourt, a psychologist at the University of Ottawa. For those on the receiving end who are young or otherwise vulnerable, the damage can be tragic. In September, a 12-year-old girl in Florida named Rebecca Ann Sedwick killed herself after other girls bullied her online. She went to an abandoned cement plant, climbed to a platform and jumped.“Rebecca became one of the youngest members of a growing list of children and teenagers apparently driven to suicide, at least in part, after being maligned, threatened and taunted online, ” The Times reported. And teenagers aren’t just using Facebook or Instagram to pick on one another. New applications appear constantly, making it difficult for parents to keep tabs on their children’s activity. Rebecca’s mother, Tricia Norman, didn’t know her daughter was receiving messages that s aid: “You’re ugly” and “Can u die please?”“You hear about this all the time,” Ms. Norman said of cyberbullying. “I never, ever thought it would happen to me or my daughter.”16. How did Jonathan Martin react when taunted and insulted by his teammate?(A) He remained silent at first and then challenged the bully to a fight.(B) He took no notice of the taunts and insults from his teammate.(C) He could no longer put up with the bullying and left the team.(D) He accepted the bullying as a natural part of a rough-and-tumble sport.17. Which of the following is typical of female bullying?(A) Confronting the victim indirectly.(B) Causing the victim to die in the end.(C) Making fun of the victim with nasty words.(D) Making mean comments about the victim’s clothes.18. These platforms were initially developed for massive open online courses. However, universities are now folding these platforms back into their traditional classes because they make it easier to share content, host discussions and keep track of student work.Soon, these platforms will be able to monitor which students are spending 15 minutes on a calculus problem and which ones slog away for an hour. This can raise red flags for professors about who might need extra help.As more classes move partially or entirely online, the requirements of having a uniform start and end date diminish. It means some students could sail through a semester’s worth of classes in a few weeks and then start again with new courses. It used to be that getting accepted to a prestigious university was how you accessed the best professors and could hang out with the smartest students. That’s because universities were, for the most part, closed information systems that distributed out their content among a select few. Th at’s changing.参考译文:在不久的将来,教授们将会使用一种能够收集每位学生的学习进度数据的数字平台来授课。

Answer the questions on each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Nisaburo and Hiroko Ohata are unlike most Japanese couples their age. Sure, Hiroko, 58, is worried about her husband´ s high blood pressure, while Nisaburo, 60, promises his wife that if she loses 18 pounds they´ 11 take a trip abroad. What makes the Ohatas different is how they met, through a matchmaking organization for single seniors. "On the second date, he asked if I wanted to meet his family," says Hiroko. "I took that as a proposal. " A little rushed, perhaps, but 17 years after his wife´s death, Nisaburo knew he´d found a new wife. The couple just celebrated four years of marital happiness last month. In the past, people like Nisaburo and Hiroko might have chosen to live out their lives alone. But as Japan´ s society ages, attitudes about love and remarriage late in life are changing. In 2006, according to government data, three times more men and nearly five times more women in their 60s and 70s married for at least the second time, compared with 20 years before.Granted, change is slow. For this silver-haired population, the concept of "dating" is still masked by the term ocha nomi tomodachi(friends having tea together). And older people often need help meeting prospective mates. That´ s where specialized matchmaking services such as Ai Senior—"Love Senior" —come in. When Shunichi Ikeda started the online service three years ago, he was surprised by how many visits he was getting from people in their 60s.Ikeda says that his clients have an "American perspective" about the dating scene. And their children are often very supportive, sometimes being the ones to register parents. "More older people are realizing that life is supposed to be enjoyable—not lonely," says Ikeda. About 17% of the matchmaking clients in Japan are over 50 years old, according to Ai Senior, and seniors´market share has more than doubled over the past three years." For older, single men, even doing laundry or cooking is difficult," says Ikeda. " They want to live with a woman. Likewise, it can be boring for women living alone. Answer the questions on each text by choosing A, B, C or D. When you become a parent, much of your focus shifts from your own future to your kids´ future. But one of the most effective ways to help your children learn to dream big is to ensure that your own dreams don´t get pushed aside by everyday demands. Our everyday experiences provide learning opportunities. When you tap into them, you create a lifelong learning habit that will always keep you growing. Even your most disappointing experiences can be turned into breakthroughs.Every dream begins in the imagination. Take a few minutes to sit down with a notebook and think about where you would like to be in 20 years. Write down details about all aspects of your ideal life. Feel free to imagine. Don´t worry about whether you know how to get there now—you have 20 years to figure that out. You can also start by picking a year in the future and making acollection of things you´ d like in your life by then. Check in on it from time to time to see where you´ ve made progress. We´ re often encouraged to work on our weaknesses, but working on your strengths is easier and creates better results. For help of identifying them, ask some friends, or colleagues to write down what they most appreciate about you. They´ll enjoy doing this, and you´ 11 feel great when you read the responses. Once you know your strengths, you can put them to work to help you achieve your dreams.Confidence is the foundation for all your other abilities. "Progress, not perfection" is a great saying to keep your confidence high. Every night, write down five achievements that happened that day. Big or small, it doesn´ t matter. If proper, add ideas for further progress arid actions you can take to get started.Find ways to add what you love to do to your life now. This will give you more energy and keep you connected with your bigger dreams. Making a list of old hobbies is a great way to restore your old passions. Answer the questions on each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Commercial classical music radio in North America has changed dramatically over the past decade. The number of stations has shrunk very rapidly—many operators dropped the format in favor of something more profitable, like pop or rock, with their crazy youthful audience. But the availability of satellite radio, Internet streaming and digital technologies has introduced new options for classical fans.In the city of Toronto, a familiar media player entered the tray last year: Moses Znaimer, 65, the famous brave television pioneer who was the driving force behind Toronto´ s CITY-TV. Eleven months ago, he took ownership of Classical 96.3 FM, Canada´s first and largest commercial classical station, which " re-launched" this month with some new on-air hosts, a totally new schedule, and more attention to singing art and less to full-length symphonies. The popular station airs selections(usually no more than 10 to 15 minutes long)of greatest-hits classical works, 24 hours a day. This usually means single movements of larger works and other pieces, with commercial ads in between. The station may never be the preferred destination of highbrow classical fans, who seek full-length symphonies and operas. But this doesn´ t seem to trouble Znaimer, who says of his main competitor, CBC Radio Two: "They play classical, and they do it well when they do it, but they don´ t do it all the time, and they´ re doing it less and less. "Marilyn Gilbert, a Toronto artist manager, also makes a comparison to Canada´s national broadcaster when she praises Znaimer´s station: "Classical 96.3 FM is very important for the community and the country, especially in view of the changes that are going on at CBC. "Znaimer is best-known for his influential work in television, but he was also one of the creators of Cross Country Checkup, the longest-running show on CBC Radio. Today he calls Classical 96.3 FM "arguably the most successful of all classical music stations on the continent. At about 800,000 listeners per week, we are larger even than the New York Times classical station[WQXR-FM]. " And under his excellent and creative leadership, the sound of the station has become livelier.第56题Many operators have dropped commercial classical radio in order to______.A.make more profitsB.promote pop musice new technologyD.attract classical fans第57题From the text we learn that Moses Znaimer wanted to______.A.consolidate his position at Classical 96. 3 FMB.acquaint classical fans with some new radio stationsC.help expand Toronto´ s CITY-TV into a bigger businessD.make Classical 96.3 FM more satisfying to classical fans第58题It can be inferred that Classical 96. 3 FM makes money by _A.attracting and broadcasting commercialsB.showing carefully selected programspeting with CBC Radio TwoD.pleasing highbrow classical fans第59题Marilyn Gilbert believes Classical 96. 3 FM______.A.encourages people to learn classical musicB.introduces a new idea to broadcasting reformC.matters a lot to the community and the countryD.causes CBC to change its way of program arrangement第60题The success of Classical 96. 3 FM lies in the fact that_____A.it has reformed its traditional program styleB.it is more diverse than WQXR-FM in New YorkC.it has attracted audiences of different age groupsD.it is the biggest broadcasting station on the continent上一题下一题(61~65/共5题)ComprehensionDirections:Read the texts from a magazine article in which five people talk about tipping in a restaurant. For questions 36-40, match the name of each person to one of the statements (A-G) given below. Laura:I think that I have to agree with you. The idea to surround yourself with good and successful people still rings true. The electronic age may aid contact and communication. However, it does not substitute for looking someone in the eye. One has to have that person-to-person feel to instinctively grasp inner character. I´ m sure that a combination of the two types of interaction will lend flavor to the future.Mike:I naturally tend to prefer face-to-face relationship building. However, having friends and business acquaintances all over the world, I find that tools such as Linkedln are quite useful. Both enable me to maintain old connections and make new connections with people I find I have something in common with. Learning how to use these vehicles is the key. I think we are presently in the process of doing just that.Nick:Just like what you have already mentioned, there is obviously a big difference between how people meet and interact on the net and in real world. What the network world offers is a more relaxed, fun, expressive place to be. I like social networking particularly because it offers me a chance to make a lot of friends. That social networking sites do not build long-lasting relationships is just a misconception.Linda:It is all about a combination of various networking sites, and, if you want to do business, just a few e-mail exchanges. That´ s how I get to know my clients. Face-to-face networking is not always possible for me. I have clients around the globe ,99% of whom I´ ve never met in person. People who oppose social-networking sites don´ t understand the real changes that have taken place in the last decade.Helen:Sure enough, social networks are used to reconnect with friends. But they are also a tool for getting your business recognized. They are great places to place ads or comments about your business, because they are open to the public to view. It can be used as a way to network with would-be consumers. It is a perfect way to promote your business to the widest range of people globally. Now match the name of each person(61 to 65)to the appropriate statement.Note: there are two extra statements.Statements[A]I do not think that online friendships are short-lived.[B]Networking can make your companies better known.[C]I doubt if people could use networking vehicles properly.[D]To benefit from networking, you should learn how to use it.[E]To understand people better, you have to meet them in person.[F]Social networking reflects the new demands of the changing time.[G]In my opinion, networking has more disadvantages than advantages.第61题Laura _______第62题Mike ________第63题Nick _________第64题Linda ________第65题Helen ________上一题下一题(1/1)WritingDirections:You should write your responses to both Part A and Part B of this section on your ANSWER SHEET.Part A第66题You want to invite John Smith, your former English teacher, to attend a reunion party of your class.Write an email to him,1)telling him the purpose of the party, time and place of the party, etc. ;2)expressing your wish for his accepting the invitation. You should write approximately 100 words. These platforms were initially developed for massive open online courses. However, universities are now folding these platforms back into their traditional classes because they make it easier to share content, host discussions and keep track of student work.Soon, they will be able to monitor which students are spending 15 minutes on a calculus problem and which ones slog away for an hour. This can raise red flags for professors about who might need extra help.As more classes move partially or entirely online, the requirements of having a uniform start and end date diminish. It means some students could sail through a semester's worth of classes in a few weeks and then start again with new courses. It used to be that getting accepted to a prestigious university was how you accessed the best professors and could hang out with the smartest students. That's because universities were, for the most part, closed information systems that doled out their content to a select few. That's changing.参考译文:在不久的将来,教授们将会使用一种能够收集每位学生的学习进度数据的数字平台来授课。

Start interpreting at the signal.., and stop it at the signal...You may take notes while you are listening. Remember you will hear the passages ONLY ONCE. Now let us begin Part A with the first passage.听力原文:There are more than five thousand languages spoken today. They are so different that most of them are mutually unintelligible. That’s why we need a lot of translators and interpreters. We are all intimately familiar with at least one language, yet few of us ever stop to consider what we know about our language and linguistic competence. Many of them even barely know the definition of language. We may say that language is a tool of communication. But if language is defined merely as that, then language is not unique to humans. We know birds, bees, whales, and most other creatures communicate in some way. A basic property of human language is its creative aspect, that is, a speaker’s ability to combine the basic linguistic units to form an infinite set of grammatical sentences.1.Passage 1正确答案:今天人们所说的语言达5000多种。

Once there was a young woman from Mexico named Consuela, who came to New York to learn English. She got a job at a factory owned by a Chinese. One day as Consuela came to work, her Chinese boss handed her a red envelope. Consuela looked inside and saw 20 dollars. She became very upset and threw the envelope back at her boss! Her boss was shocked. Well, he had given her the red envelope and the money because it was Chinese New Year. And on the Chinese New Year, it is traditional to give money to young, single people for good luck. However, from Consuela’s point of view, he was an older man giving her money in an envelope, which meant that he was asking her for sexual favors. Naturally, she refused to take the money. Now, what does this story show us? It shows that an action can have totally opposite meanings in different cultures. Every culture has its own rules for what is appropriate and what is not appropriate behavior. And to illustrate my point today, I’m going to give examples from four areas. First, the way people greet each other in different cultures. Second, the way they use names and titles. Third, the way people eat. And finally, the way they exchange gifts.OK, let’s start with greeting customs—First of all, I’m sure you know that in the United States and in most western countries, greetings often involve some sort of touching, such as a handshake, a hug, or a kiss if people know each other very well. On the other hand, people from most Asian countries don’t usually feel as comfortable touching in public. Although handshakes between business people are common, many Japanese prefer a bow, while people from Thailand, normally hold their hands together in a kind of prayer position. So imagine how embarrassing it would be if an American was invited to someone’s home in Japan or Thailand and she tried to hug the host! Now, another behavior that differs from culture to culture is the use of names. Have you noticed that Americans are quick to use people’s first names even if they have just met. Forinstance, visitors to the United States are always surprised to hear employees speak to their bosses using first names. In contrast, people in most other cultures are more formal and prefer to be addressed as Mr. Brown or Mr. Honda, for example. In addition, in some countries, such as Italy or Korea, people like you to include their title or position with their family names, especially if they're university graduates or owners of a business. Now I want to look at eating customs. I'll talk about the behaviors connected with eating that vary from culture to culture. One of these is the use of utensils. You probably know that people in many Asian cultures use chopsticks but in some countries it’s customary to eat with your fingers. It’s important to be aware of different dining customs. Here is another example. In some cultures, eating everything on your plate is considered impolite. In Egypt and China, you should leave some food in your dish at the end of the meal. This is to show that your hosts were generous and gave you more than enough to eat. However, Americans generally consider a clean plate as a sign of satisfaction with the food. Finally, what I want to mention today is gift giving, which you may think is a universal custom and there is not much variation from culture to culture. But the rules of gift giving can be very comp licated. In USA, if you’re invited to someone’s home for dinner, bring wine or flowers or small item as a present. On the other hand, the Japanese give gifts quite frequently, often to thank someone, such as a teacher or a doctor. In the Japanese culture, gift giving is a very ancient tradition and it has many detailed rules. Another interesting fact about gift giving is that many cultures have strict rules about gifts you should not give. For example, never give yellow flowers to people from Iran, which means you hate them!【评析】本文题材对考生来说并不陌生,是老生常谈的文化差异。

英译中On August 6, 1997, when 55,000 people gathered in Hiroshima to commemorate the 46th anniversary of the devastating bombing that killed an estimated 140,000 people and brought World War Ⅱto a sudden halt, the city’s newly elected mayor broke with tradition by adding a few uncustomay lines to the annual Peace Declaration. It should also be recalled, he declared, that "Japan inflicted great suffering and despair on the peoples of Asia and the Pacific during its reign of colonial domination and war. For this we are truly sorry." Noting that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the Japaness assalt on the U.S., he added, "Remembering all too well the horror of this war, starting with the attack on Pearl Harbor and ending with the atombombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we are determined anew to work for world peace."Usually, in Japan, when people discuss the war at all, they speak of vicitimization: their own victimization by the militarists who led the country into battle and by the Americans who bombed their cities. The suffering inflicted by the imperial army on the peoples of Asia is ignored, as is Japna’s aggression in China and at Pearl Harbor. The appealing image of Japan the victim has no room for the underside of Japan the aggressor.【参考译文】1997年8月6日,55000人在广岛集会,纪念原子弹事件46周年。

Answer the questions on each text by choosing A, B, C or D. Mark your answers on your ANSWER SHEET. Text 1 Nisaburo and Hiroko Ohata are unlike most Japanese couples their age. Sure,Hiroko,58, is worried about her husband' s high blood pressure, while Nisaburo,60, promises his wife that if she loses 18 pounds they' 11 take a trip abroad. What makes the Ohatas different is how they met, through a matchmaking organization for single seniors. " On the second date, he asked if I wanted to meet his family," says Hiroko. "I took that as a proposal. " A little rushed, perhaps, but 17years after his wife' s death, Nisaburo knew he' d found a new wife. The couple just celebrated four years of marital happiness last month. In the past, people like Nisaburo and Hiroko might have chosen to live out their lives alone. But as Japan' s society ages, attitudes about love and remarriage late in life are changing. In 2006,according to government data, three times more men and nearly five times more women in their 60sand 70s married for at least the second time, compared with 20 years before. Granted, change is slow. For this silver-haired population, the concept of "dating" is still masked by the term ocha nomi tomodachi (friends having tea together). And older people often need help meeting prospective mates. That' s where specialized matchmaking services such as Ai Senior--" Love Senior"--come in. When Shunichi lkeda started the online service three years ago, he was surprised by how many visits he was getting from people in their 60s. Ikeda says that his clients have an "American perspective" about the dating scene. And their children are often very supportive, sometimes being the ones to register parents. "More older people are realizing that life is supposed to be enjoyable--not lonely," says Ikeda. About 17% of the matchmaking clients in Japan are over 50 years old, according to Ai Senior, and seniors' market share has more than doubled over the past three years. "For older, single men, even doing laundry or cooking is difficult," says Ikeda. "They want to live with a woman. Likewise, it can be boring for women living alone. They want to provide for someone. " 46. According to the writer, the Ohatas are different from most senior Japanese couples in that______ [A] they remarried with the help of an agency[B] they decided to marry on the second date[C] the husband suffers from a health problem[D] the wife is concerned about losing weight 47. As is implied in the text, Nisaburo' s proposal on the second date might be considered______ [A] typical of single seniors [B] irresponsible to his family [C] a surprise to the woman [D] a decision made in haste 48. In Japan, the change in attitudes about remarriage results from an increase in [A] its population [B] single women______ [C] senior people [D] the divorced 49. According to Ai Senior, the matchmaking clients in Japan______ [A] admire the American lifestyle [B] are mostly under 50 years of age [C] share a vague term for "dating" [D] doubled over the past three years 50. According to Ikeda, more single seniors remarry in order to______ [A] live a longer life [B] solve financial problems [ C ] make their life enjoyable [ D ] support their children together Text 2 When you become a parent, much of your focus shifts from your own future to your kids' future. But one of the most effective ways to help your children learn to dream big is to ensure that your own dreams don' t get pushed aside by everyday demands. Our everyday experiences provide learning opportunities. When you tap into them, you create a lifelong learning habit that will always keep you growing. Even your most disappointing experiences can be turned into breakthroughs. Every dream begins in the imagination. Take a few minutes to sit down with a notebook and think about where you would like to be in 20 years. Write down details about all aspects of your ideal life. Feel free to imagine. Don' t worry about whether you know how to get there now—you have 20 years to figure that out. You can also start by picking a year in the future and making a collection of things you' d like in your life by then. Check in on it from time to time to see where you've made progress. We're often encouraged to work on our weaknesses, but working on your strengths is easier and creates better results. For help of identifying them, ask some friends, or colleagues to write down what they most appreciate about you. They' ll enjoy doing this, and you' 11 feel great when you read the responses. Once you know your strengths, you can put them to work to help you achieve your dreams. Confidence is the foundation for all your other abilities. "Progress, notperfection" is a great saying to keep your confidence high. Every night, write down five achievements that happened that day. Big or small, it doesn' t matter. If proper, add ideas for further progress and actions you can take to get started. Find ways to add what you love to do to your life now. This will give you more energy and keep you connected with your bigger dreams. Making a list of old hobbies is a great way to restore your old passions. Things you' re enthusiastic about come with their own store of energy. Connecting with them can give you a push when you most need it. 51. In order to help your children to dream big you must______ [ A] fulfill everyday tasks [ B ] build your own career [C] keep your own dreams [ D] make them look ahead 52. The writer suggests that, to begin your big dream, you should______ [A] stretch your imagination [ B ] have a best-laid plan for 20 years [ C ] recollect all your likes and dislikes [D] engage yourself in lifelong learning 53. According to the writer, to achieve our dreams, we should______ [ A] work on our strengths [ B ] develop our creativity [ C ] identify our weaknesses [ D ] seek advice from friends 54. To keep high confidence, it is important for one to______ [ A ] take appropriate actions [ B ] notice his daily progress [ C ] try his best in everything [ D ] form new ideas every day 55. The writer thinks that one can hold fast to his dream by______ [ A ] listing the details of his ideal life [B] improving some of his old hobbies[C ] adding new ideas to his old dreams [ D ] energizing himself with old passions答案 第一部分听力(略) 第二部分英语知识运用 参考译文 如今,美国家庭对于电视基本上存在着两种对立的态度。

The American economy increasingly seems to b e on an upswing. The United States remains among the world ’s safest and most attractive investments. The shale gas re volution is transforming the country into an energy giant of the future. The dollar, once slated for oblivion, seems de stined to remain the world’s reserve currency for some time to come. American military power, even amidst current budge t cuts, remains unmatched both in quantity and quality.Meanwhile, the anticipated “rise of the rest,”which other declinists celebrated a few years ago, has failed to mater ialize as expected. For all America’s problems at home –the fiscal crisis, political gridlock, intense partisanship, a nd weak presidential leadership –other great powers, from China to India to Russia to the EU, quite clearly have deb ilitating problems of their own, which in some cases promise to grow more severe in the years to come. Overall, the m uch-heralded return of a multipolar world of roughly equal great powers, as existed before World War II, has been delayed for at least a few more decades. There are ten questions in this part of the test, one point for each question. You will hear both the statement and the question only once.第1题Which of the following statements is true according to what you have heard?A I will eat lunch very quickly.B I will have lunch before the meeting.C I will eat lunch at the meeting.D I will eat lunch while jogging.【正确答案】:A【本题分数】:2.0分【答案解析】固定搭配。
根据原文“Since I have a meeting around noon,I will eat my lunch on the run.”关键在于理解固定搭配on the run。
On the run:hurrying busily from place to place,意指匆忙地,所以a选项“I will eat lunch very quickly。
”是对原文的正确解释。
而d选项则为干扰项,把on the run理解为running的意思,并用同义词jogging来代替了running,具有迷惑性。

2014年3月中级口译听力原文及听力解析听力原文Spot Dictation:My topic for today’s lecture is communication, culture and work. When most people use the word ―culture‖, they think of people from different national backgrounds. National cultures certainly do exist, and they play an important role in shaping the way people communicate. But there are other dimensions of culture too. Within a nation, regional differences can exert a powerful influence on communication. New Yorkers and Alaskans may find one another’ s styles of be having so different that they might as well be from different countries. Race and ethnicity can also shape behavior, so can age. The customs, values and the attitudes of a 20-year-old girl may vary radically from those of her parents who were raised in the 1960s or her grandparents who lived through the Great Depression and World War II. Still, other differences can create distinctive cultures, gender, sexual orientation, physical disabilities, religion and social economic background or just a few. All of these factors lead to a definition of culture as a set of values, beliefs, norms, customs, rules, and codes that lead people to define themselves as a distinct group, giving them a sense of commonality. It’s important to realize that culture is learned, not innate. A Korea-born infant adapted soon after birth by American parents and raised in the United States will think and act differently than his or her cousins who grew up in Seoul An African-American who grew up in the city will view the world differently than he or she would if raised in the suburbs or in the countries like France when African heritage has different significance than it does in the United States. The norms and values we learned as a part of our culture conditioning shaped the way we view the world and the way we interact with one another. In short, culture has such an overwhelming influence on communication. The famous anthropologist Edward W. once remarked ―culture is communication and communication is culture‖. Statements:1: This report is urgent I have to finish typing it by Monday morning, so there goes my sleep this weekend.2: What this office needs is better sound-proofing. I can’t concentrate here with all that traffic passing by on the street below.3: Learning a language is a laborious (15:17) process, and adjusting to this subtle cultural differences require much more time and patience than anyone can imagine. 4: If you can talk your boss into investing in that project, it will be a turning point for your company and we both shall benefit in the long run.5: I am afraid we’ve undercharged them; the invoice doesn’t include the legal fee and our agency’s commission. I think we need to inform. them about this immediately.6: Being bilingual or multilingual can be an advantage in landing a job abroad although fluency in other languages is not always a requirement.7: I believe our proposal is a real a contender for the contract. All we need to do is to walk ourselves into position to close the deal.8: We must prepare the ground for a deeper understanding of our differences and problems. Only through a shared view of our problem shall we be able to carry our collaboration forward.9: Give the size of the order and the amount of heavy expenses on our side, anything less than 10 per cent is not worth the trouble.10: Walking burns calories. Most babies first smile between six and eight weeks’ old. At first, it is only an expression made when excursing their facial muscles or passing wind. But once they realize a smile gets them a lot of attention, huge smiles in return, happy noises, extra treats, they learn to try it again. And why wouldn’t they? It takes forty-three muscles to frown, but only seventeen to smile. We smile when we are happy. We smile when we see people we know. But what happens when you are not happy to see someone you know? You smile any way. You fake a smile. Unfortunately, however, a fakesmile never looks quite the same as the real one. In a genuine smile, you not only show your lower teeth, but also move the muscles running all the way around the mouth which in turn makes the skin around the eyes become tighter. And then your smile is real. However, when someone smiles politely, rather than because they really want to, they use the muscle, which only raises the size of the mouth, and which does not move the muscles at the corner of the eyes. This kind of fake smile is sometimes refer to as the ―Pan-Am Smile‖. As it is named, after the former airline whose flight attendants welcomed every passenger with the same force smile.Question 15: According to the talk, what is a smile?Question 16: What happens in a real smile?Question 17: What do we learn about the Pan-Am Smile?Question 18: Which of the following is not true according to the talk?Q19-Q20M: Hollow. They seem such nice people at first but now I am not so sure.M: Really? Why?W: Well. They are from London and they think it’s the only place in the world worth talking about it. The wife made some very catty remarks about this area.M: Londoners always think they are always better than other people, but I always find them less cultured. What does she look like?W: Quite young and pretty. But she does wear a lot of makeup and she certainly dyes her hair. Perhaps she isn’t as young as she looks.M: Anyway. I don’t want to m ix with people like that because I knew they would snob when they saw that huge car. Surely they don’t need such a big one.W: No. Still my husband says it’s four years old and it probably costs less than our secondhand. And ours is certainly as fast theirs.
