I.Translate the following text into English（每小题20分，共2小题，共40分）

（1）在人际关系问题上我们不要太浪漫主义。人是很有趣的，往往在接触一个人时首先看到的都是他或她的优点。这一点颇像是在餐馆里用餐的经验。开始吃头盘或冷碟的时候，印象很好。吃头两个主菜时，也是赞不绝口。愈吃愈趋于冷静，吃完了这顿宴席，缺点就都找出来了。于是转喜为怒，转赞美为责备挑剔，转首肯为摇头。其中一个解释是因为开始吃的时候你正处于饥饿状态，而饿了吃糠甜如蜜，饱了吃蜜也不甜。

（2）温哥华（Vancouver）的辉煌是温哥华人智慧和勤奋的结晶，其中包括多民族的贡献。加拿大地广人稀，国土面积比中国还大，人口却不足3000万。吸收外来移民，是加拿大长期奉行的国策。可以说，加拿大除了印第安人外，无一不是外来移民，不同的只是时间长短而已。温哥华则更是世界上屈指可数的多民族城市。现今180万温哥华居民中，有一半不是在本地出生的，每4个居民中就有一个是亚洲人。而25万华人对温哥华的经济转型起着决定性的作用。他们其中有一半是近5年才来温哥华地区的，使温哥华成为亚洲以外最大的中国人集居地。

II.Translate the following text into Chinese（每小题20分，共2小题，共40分）（1）Some old people are oppressed by the fear of death.In the young there is a justification for this feeling.Young men who have reason to fear that they will be killed in battle may justifiably feel bitter in the thought that they have been cheated of the best things

that life has to offer.But in an old man who has known human joys and sorrows,and has achieved whatever work it was in him to do,the fear of death is somewhat pitiful and ignoble. The best way to overcome it—so at least it seems to me—is to make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal,until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede,and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life.An individual human existence should be like a river—small at first,narrowly contained within its banks,and rushing passionately past boulders and over waterfalls.Gradually the river grows wider,the banks recede,the waters flow more quietly,and in the end,without any visible break,they become merged in the sea,and painlessly lose their individual being.

（2）I am lonely only when I am overtired,when I have worked too long without a break, when for the time being I feel empty and need filling up.And I am lonely sometimes when I come back home after a lecture trip,when I have seen a lot of people and talked a lot,and am full to the brim with experience that needs to be sorted out.

Then for a little while the house feels huge and empty,and I wonder where my self is hiding.It has to be recaptured by watering the plants and,perhaps,by looking again at each one as though it were a person.It takes a while,as I watch the surf blowing up in fountains,but the moment comes when the world falls away,and the self emerges again from the deep unconscious,bringing back all I have recently experienced to be explored and slowly understood.

III.Writing （每小题70分，共1小题，共70分）Should people retire from their jobs when they reach a certain age,like 65.This has been an intensely discussed question for years.The following are the supporters’and opponents’opinions.Read carefully the opinions from both sides and write your response in about 500words,in which you should first summarize briefly the opinions from both sides and give your view on the issue.

Marks will be awarded for content relevance,content sufficiency,organization and language quality.Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks.YES NO Considering the poor physical conditions,senior employees over 65are not suitable to wor k anymore.If keep working after 65,it is not only dangerous for themselves,but al so exactly detrimental to the company wh o hire them.Plenty of young employees mean that the company is infused with lots of young blood.With the development of technology,more and more new technological products have been developed.Senior employees tend to outshine young adults and thus increase the likelihood of youth unemployment.There is a danger that older people will take away job opportunities from younger people.

Senior employees have accumulated rich experiences and wisdom,which is increasing gradually as time pass es and can truly be beneficial.Though their deteriorating energy might make it hard for them to be competent at intense and stressful work,they are still capable of some jobs,like consultants for the companies.Senior employees are more responsible and even-tempered.Whereas,the younger generation is normally immature.
