The purpose of writing an expository essay that conveys significant (important的替换词,专四专八用得 上。) information clearly and accurately is not to argue with a real or assumed opponent but to teach, to give instructions, to provide guidance, to prove a truth, or to clear up a misunderstanding.

The differences between narration&description (P.43)
The difference between narration and description is that narration usually tells about action while description aims to appeal to the readers’ five senses; narration is more concerned with what truly happened, while description is more concerned with what things looked like.

What is an expository essay? (Pg 56)
Expository essays can be divided into two kinds, One answers the question “how”; in other words, it explains a process. Another answers the question “what”; it explains an idea, a conception, a phenomenon, an incident, a movement, etc.
