位敦市安定阳光实验学校阅读理解基础训练Passage 1(中学高三检测)German inventors Falk Wolsky and Daniel Kaesma have created a digital pen, which can check for spelling mistakes in handwriting. The idea came from Wolsky's wife while she was helping her son with his homework. It will help children and adults develop their writing and spelling skills. The Lernstift, which is German for learning pen, has a built-in sensor. It can recognize writing movements and track the shape of the letters to recognize words. It then vibrates (震动) when a mistake is made. Lernstift also has Wi-Fi built-in, and the pen can be connected to a smart-phone or PC to upload written texts online, share them on social networks or take part in writing training.Current digital pens use optical (光学) sensors to pick up the writing movements and digitize (数字化) the words or sketches, so that they can be used on a computer. Some of these pens require additional devices, while others only work with special paper. Lernstift is different, because it has the technology and software built-in.The computer inside Lernstift is an embedded Linux operating system. The board contains a non-optical motion sensor, processor, memory, Wi-Fi and vibration module. The motion sensor recognizes all writing movements, even if the pen is used to write in the air. This means Lernstift doesn't need any additional recognition devices or special paper to work on.The pen has two functions: Orthography Mode is used to recognize misspellings and will vibrate when a word is spelt incorrectly. Calligraphy Mode is used to point out flaws in the form of handwriting, to make it neater. Future models will also be able to point out grammatical mistakes such as wrong word order.Lernstift uses a built-in handwriting software to compare the written words with the correct spellings. The software has over 40 languages, and Lernstift will be launched in English and German before being rolled out to more languages. This means it could be used to help people learn new languages.1.Who came up with the idea of Lernstift pen?A. Wolsky’s wifeB. Wolsky’s son.C. Kaesma’s wife.D. Kaesma’s son.2.What’s special about the Lernstift pen?A. It can make you write more quickly without making a mistake.B. It can write words for a long time without stopping.C. It can check for spelling errors and vibrate when you make a mistake.D. It can remind you to have a rest when you make a spelling mistake.3. It’s believed that future models of Lernstift pen can ____________.A. recognize misspellings in wordsB. point out flaws in the form of handwritingC. correct spelling mistakes of itselfD. check for grammatical errors4. What can we get to know from the text?A. There will be no spelling mistakes in people’s writing paper.B. Children can finish homework as soon as possible with the Lernstift pen.C. With the help of the Lernstift pen, people come to learn 40 languages.D. The Lernstift pen will help people develop their writing and spelling skills.【文章大意】Wolsky研制了一种型的可识别书写错误的钢笔Lernstift,以震动的形式来提醒使用者。

One morning more than thirty years ago, I entered the Track Kitchen, a restaurant where everyone from the humblest(卑微的) to the most powerful came for breakfast. I noticed an empty chair next to an elderly, unshaven man, who looked somewhat disheveled. He was wearing a worn-out hat and was alone. I asked if I might join him. He agreed quietly and I sat down to have my breakfast. We cautiously began a conversation and spoke about a wide rang of things. We never introduced ourselves. I was concerned that he might have no money and not be able to afford something to eat. So as I rose to go back to the counter and buy a second cup of coffee, I asked, "My I get you something?" "A coffee would be nice." Then I bought him a cup of coffee. We talked more, and he accepted another cup of coffee, Finally, I rose to leave, wished him well, and headed for the exit. At the door I met one of my friends. He asked, "How did you get to know Mr. Gal breath?" "Who?" "The man you were sitting with. He is chairman of the Board of Churchill Downs." 定额市鞍钢阳光实验学校2014高考英语阅读理解全程基础训练(21)及答案阅读理解-------BImagine putting a seed in a freezer, waiting 30,000 years, and then taking the seed out and planting it. Do you think a flower would grow? Amazingly, scientists have just managed to do something very similar. They found the fruit of an ancient plant that had been frozen underground in Siberia — a region covering central and eastern Russia — for about 31,800 years. Using pieces of the fruit, the scientists grew plants in a lab. The new blooms have delicate white petals. They are also the oldest flowering plants that researchers have ever revived from a deep freeze.“This is like regenerating a dinosaur from tissues of an ancient egg,” s aid University of California, Los Angeles biologist Jane Shen-Miller.The plant has a long history. Back when mammoths and woolly rhinoceroses walked the land, an Arctic ground squirrel buried seeds and fruits in an underground chamber near the Kolyma River in northeastern Siberia. The ground became permafrost, a layer of soil that stays frozen for a long time.Recently, Russian scientists dug out the old squirrel hole and found the plant remains 38 meters below the surface. Back at the lab, the team fed nutrients to tissue from three of the fruits to grow shoots. Then the scientists transferred the shoots to pots filled with soil. The plants produced seeds that could be used to grow even more of them. It’s important for scientists to know that p lant tissues can still be revived after being frozen for a long time. That’s because many researchers are trying to preserve the seeds of modern plants by freezing them and then storing them in giant lockers at various spots around the globe. One such endeavor, an underground facility in Norway, is called the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. It stores hundreds of thousands of frozen seeds. If a plant ever goes extinct, scientists could bring it back by taking its seeds from the Svalbard or other storage lockers.“No one knows how long they are able to live for, but freezing is basically the format for many plant conservation attempts nowadays.” Shen-Miller said. It’s a good thing that at least some plants are tough enough to survive the experience.31. How did the fruit originally get underground?A. It was placed there by an animal.B. It was trapped there during the ice-age.C. It was planted there by ancient farmers.D. It was buried there after the earthquake.【答案】A【解析】细节理解题。

AFifty has never looked better. It’s been 50 years since the first James Bond film, Dr. No, premiered (首映) in cinemas. As first embodied by Scottish actor Sean Connery, Agent 007 was a fearless, cool-as-ice spy who excelled at sleuthing(侦查), fighting and saving the world.Since then, more than 20 films featuring the iconic spy have been released–making it one of the longest-running franchises (授权) in the history of cinema. On Nov 9, the 23rd Bond movie, Skyfall, celebrated the legend’s 50th birthday.Over the years, audiences have changed. It doesn't matter. Six different actors have acted 007 and it doesn't matter. Even shocking technological and cultural cha nges can’t bend Bond. Why? Is it the action, the sexy women, the cars, the gadgets and the exotic locations? Yes, but the most important reason is still the man himself. Bond can challenge his boss and shoot a bad guy in mere minutes. He is an expert in literature, languages, art and fine wines. He has a sharp tongue besides his wits.In the first film Dr. No, as Connery lit a cigarette, we heard James Bond’s voice and saw his café for the first time. The simple scene and short phrase have defined the character for half a century.“Next to the Beatles and Stones, James Bond was the greatest British import of the 1960s,” David Kamp, a US contributing editor for Vanit y Fair, wrote in a recent article about the birth of Bond and its influence on the US.The Bond phenomenon has clearly affected movie culture, pop culture and spy culture. But perhaps the most amazing thing is that 007 has survived in the age of feminism(女权主义). “Talking of objectifying women, Bond is essential Huge Henfner (founder of Playboy magazine) with a gun,” movie critic Xan Brooks told The Guardian. “But women liked Bond, too. He couldn’t have run for 50 years with male fans alone.”We love Bond for many reasons—after all 50 years, Bond is still breathtaking. thrilling ride into the very heart of an icon like no other. But most of all, we may love him for one reason: “he always gets away with it.” one said.【文章大意】本文叙述了詹姆斯邦德电影50年来一直受欢迎。

2014高考英语阅读理解全程基础训练(5)及答案阅读理解------BPeople who enjoy a dream-filled sleep are better at recalling information and making links between facts when waking. But recharging with a shallow (小睡) offers no such mental improvement, the research suggests. The results of the study added to the growing body of evidence that Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep is very important to the brain’s ability to form strong memories. An average night's rest includes four or five spells of REM sleep, but these bursts tend to be lengthier towards the end of the night. This means adults getting less than the recommended seven to eight hours a night -- and therefore inadequate REM sleep -- may be damaging their mind's ability to memorize: Although REM sleep is not classified as a type of deep sleep, it is only reached after the brain has passed through deep sleep stages. In the recent study, participants were shown groups of three word s --- such as “cookie”, “heart”, and “sixteen”----and asked to find another word that can be associated with all three words. They were tested once in the morning and then given the same task again in the afternoon. In between, some were allowed a nap with REM sleep, some a nap without REM sleep, while the others had a quiet rest period. The quiet rest and non-REM sleep groups didn't improve, but the REM sleep group improved on their morning performance by an average of almost 40 per cent.Dr Sara Mednick, a sleep researcher at the University of California who led the study, believes the formation of connections between previously unassociated information in the brain occurs during REM sleep. People woken while their closed eyes made rapid movements recalled much more colorful and detailed dreams than people woken during other stages of sleep.1. According to the passage, to have a good memory, a person had better _______ at night.A. sleep four to five hours at mostB. sleep as much as possibleC. sleep with four or five periods of REMD. have a shallow sleep答案解析:答案为C。

A recent survey in the United States showed that the average family spent more money on its pets than on its children. Although rather shocking, it should not surprise anyone who has seen the doggy parlours(客厅) where loved pets rest. Are Americans unique in treating their little friends in this way? No, the English, too, pay more attention to their pets. This can clearly be seen when we look at pet foods, which often contain more vitamins than human food. They certainly cost much. Last year the British public spent two hundred million pounds on pet food alone, to say nothing of veterinary bills or animal furniture. It is difficult not to feel angry about this when considering what the same amount could do for victims of starvation and poverty, so it’s not unusual for me to get hot under collar when I read an old man left all his money to his dog instead of his children. There are a variety of reasons why I find pets-raising alarming. They cause physical problems. An example of this is New York where they have great difficulty getting rid of the mess that dogs leave on the streets. Many people find this funny, but in a number of large cities it is a major problem. Animals can cause disease, too. It is the threat of babies —a disease with no known cure.Another problem is the carelessness of pet owners. Most littlechildren want a dog or a cat,and they continually push their mothers and fathers until they get one. It is only when the "sweet little thing"has been brought home that the parents realize how much time and money must be spent on "Rover" or "Bonzo". Then they just abandon it. As a result, they are allowed to run free. English farmers lose hundreds of sheep a year, killed by someone’s pet and you must have read of children being hurt by some pets of their own.Lastly, I would only suggest that we have got our priorities wrong and that something should be done about it. In my view, it’s time we stopped being sentimental about pets. I can see no reason why we should get upset when animals are cut up for medical experiments. This will lead us to discovering cures for serious human diseases, then I say,"keep cutting!"1. The doggy parlours are mentioned in the 1st paragraph to show ________.A. what costly lives the pets are livingB. where Americans keep their petsC. why children love their pets so muchD. how much pets depend on their masters2. In the second paragraph "to get hot under the collar" probably means ________.A. getting quite hotB. becoming excitedC. feeling extremely angryD. receiving a fashionable shirt3. According to the author, in which field can animals be most useful?A. Food.B. Sports.C. Entertainment.D. Medicine.4. What is the author’s attitude towards pets-raising?A. Sympathetic.B. Opposed.C. Pitiful.D. Supportive.【文章大意】这是一篇议论文。

The Basics of Math—Made ClearBasic Math introduces students to the basic concepts of mathematics, as well as the fundamentals of more tricky areas. These 30 fantastic lectures are designed to provide students with an understanding of arithmetic and to prepare them for Algebra(代数)and beyond. The lessons in Basic Math cover every basic aspect of arithmetic. They also look into exponents(指数), the order of operations, and square roots. In addition to learning how to perform various mathematical operations, students discover why these operations work, how a particular mathematical topic relates to other branches of mathematics, and how these operations can be used practically.Basic Math starts from the relatively easier concepts and gradually moves on to the more troublesome ones, so as to allow for steady and sure understanding of the material by students. The lectures offer students the chance to “make sense” of mathematical knowledge that may have seemed so frightening. They also help students prepare for college mathematics and overcome their anxiety about this amazing—and completely understandable—field of study.By the conclusion of the course, students will have improved their understanding of basic math. They will be able to clear away the mystery(神秘性) of mathematics and face their studies with more confidence than they ever imagined. In addition, they will strengthen their ability to accept new and exciting mathematical challenges. Professor H. Siegel, honore d by Kentucky Educational Television as “the best math teacher in America”, is a devoted teacher and has a gift for explaining mathematical concepts in ways that make them seem clear and obvious. From the basic concrete ideas to the more abstract problems, he is a master in making math lectures learnerfriendlier and less scary. With a PhD in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University, Dr. Siegel teaches mathematics at Central Arizona College. 定额市鞍钢阳光实验学校2014高考英语阅读理解基础训练精品题(110)及答案阅读理解-----Passage three(Advertisers Perform a Useful Service to the Community)Advertisers tend to think big and perhaps this is why they’re always coming in for criticism. Their critics seem to resent them because they have a flair for self-promotion and because they have so much money to throw around. ‘It’s iniquitous,’ they say, ‘that this entirely unproductive industry (if we can call it that) should absorb millions of pounds each year. It only goes to show how much profit the big companies are making. Why don’t they stop advertising and reduce the price of their goods? After all, it’s the consumer who pays…’The poor old consumer! He’d have to pay a great deal more if advertising didn’t create mass markets for pr oducts. It is precisely because of the heavy advertising that consumer goods are so cheap. But we get the wrong idea if we think the only purpose of advertising is to sell goods. Another equally important function is to inform. A great deal of the knowledge we have about household goods derives largely from the advertisements we read. Advertisements introduce us to new products or remind us of the existence of ones we already know about. Supposing you wanted to buy a washing machine, it is more than likely you would obtain details regarding performance, price, etc., from an advertisement. Lots of people pretend that they never read advertisements, but this claim may be seriously doubted. It is hardly possible not to read advertisements these days. And what fun they often are, too! Just think what a railway station or a newspaper would be like without advertisements. Would you enjoy gazing at a blank wall or reading railway byelaws while waiting for a train? Would you like to read only closely printed columns of news in your daily paper? A cheerful, witty advertisement makes such a difference to a drab wall or a newspaper full of the daily ration of calamities. We must not forget, either, that advertising makes a positive contribution to our pockets. Newspapers, commercial radio and television companies could not subsist without this source of revenue. The fact that we pay so little for our daily paper, or can enjoy so many broadcast programmes is due entirely to the money spent by advertisers. Just think what a newspaper would cost if we had to pay its full price!Another thing we mustn’t forget is the ‘small ads.’ which are in virtually every newspaper and magazine. What a tremendously useful service they perform for the community! Just about anything can be accomplished through these columns. For instance, you can find a job, buy or sell a house, announce a birth, marriage or death in what used to be called the ‘hatch, match and dispatch’ column but by far the most fascinating section is the personal or ‘agony’ column. No other itemin a newspaper provides such entertaining reading or offers such a deep insight into human nature. It’s the best advertisement for advertising there is!1.What is main idea of this passage?A. Advertisement.B. The benefits of advertisement.C. Advertisers perform a useful service to communities.D. The costs of advertisement.2.The attitude of the author toward advertisers isA. appreciative.B. trustworthy.C. critical.D. dissatisfactory.3.Why do the critics criticize advertisers?A. Because customers pay more.4.Which of the following is Not True?A. Advertisement makes contribution to our pockets and we may know everything.B. We can buy what we want.C. Good quality products don’t need to be advertised.D. Advertisement makes our life colorful.5.The passage isA. Narration.B. Description.C. Criticism.D. According to a team of researchers,an animal's ability to perceive(感知)time is linked to their pace of life.“Our results lend support to the importance of time perception in animals where the ability to perceive time in a very short time may be the difference between lifeand death for fast moving creatures,” commented the lead author Kevin Healy fromTrinity College Dublin. The study was done with a variety of animals using a phenomenon based on the maximum speed of flashes of light an individual can see before the light source is seen asconstant.Dogs, for example, have eyes with a refresh rate higher than humans. One example of this phenomenon at work, the authors say, is the housefly and its ability to avoid being hit.The research shows flies observe motion in a shorter time than our own eyes can achieve, which allows them to avoid being hit.Professor Graeme Ruxton of the University of St Andrews in Scotland, who worked jointly on the research project, said in a statement ,“ Having eyes that send updates to the brain at much higher frequencies than our eyes do is of no value if the braincannot process that information equally quickly. Thus, this work highlights theimpressive abilities of even the smallest animal brains.Flies might not be deepthinkers, but they can make good decisions very quickly.”In comparison, the tiger beetle(虎甲虫)runs faster than its eyes can keep up,basically becoming blind ,which requires it to stop periodically to re-evaluate itsprey's( 猎物 )position. Our results suggest that time perception offers an as yet unstudied dimension in which animals can specialize and there is a considerable range to study this system in more detail.1. What is the research mentioned in the passage mainly about?A. Pace of life of animals.B. Time perception of animals.C. Lifetime of small animals.D. Impressive abilities of animals.2. What does Kevin Healy's comment mean in Para.2?A. The ability of animals to perceive time depends on their high moving speed.B. The survival of fast moving animals relies on their ability to perceive time.C. Animals with quicker pace of life have better perception of time.D. Animals with poor ability of time perception have a shorter life.3. Why can houseflies avoid being hit?A. They can think very deeply before they act.B. They can fly much faster than their eyes can keep up.C. They can process information as quickly as they receive it.D. They can send information to the brain more quickly than to their eyes.【解题导语】本文是一篇科普说明文。

There are many factors which may have an influence on adults and children being able to lead a healthy life.51 Often, both parents work outside the home. Children are expected to take on more responsibility at home to help their parents. They also have sporting and leisure activities as well as school expectations. The business also adds another factor: the need to use cars to get from one place to another quickly. 52 Computers, DVDs. CDs, television, PlayStations and Xboxes have become major leisure activities, rather than traditional more active pursuits. This has led to a lifestyle of less exercise.53 Unfortunately, they also promote fast food which fits easily into busy lifestyles. It is much more convenient at times to buy a quick takeaway rather than prepare a meal. The media constantly bombard(轰炸) their audience with ‘perfect’ body images, the need to buy the most fashionable clothes, the most up-to-date computer games, the best places to visit and the best things to do.Environments vary. 54 This can be harmful to people who suffer from breathing difficulties. I’ve been in the taxicab business for thirty-five years, and I know there is a lot about it that is not so good. Taxicab drivers have to be tough fellows to be able to work in New York. You’ve got to fight the New York traffic eight hours a day these days, so people get the wrong impression that they are bad.Actually, taxi drivers are just like other people. Most of them will behave as honest fellows. You read in the papers almost every week that a taxi driver turns in money or jewels that people leave in their cabs. If they weren’t honest, you wouldn’t be reading those stories in the papers. One time in Brooklyn, I found a diamond ring in my cab. I remembered helping a lady with a lot of packages that day, so I went back to where I had dropped her. It took me almost two days to trace her down in order to return her ring to her. I didn’t get as much as “thank you”. Still I felt good because I had done what was right. I think I felt better than she did.I was born and raised in Ireland and lived there until I was nineteen years old. Then I came to this country where I had a family and bought my own cab. Life hasn’t been too easy at times, but my wife t akes care of our money and we have a good bit put away for a rainy day. When I started driving a cab, Park Avenue was mostly a bunch of coal yards. Hoofer’s Brewery was right next to where the Waldorf-Astoria is now. I did pretty well, even in those days. In all my years of driving a taxicab, I have never had any trouble with the public, not even with drunks.I believe honesty is one of the greatest gifts. I know they call it a lot of fancy names these days, like integrity (正直), etc. But it doesn’t make any difference what they call it; it’s still what makesa man a good citizen. This is my code, and I try to live by.1. Why do people think taxicab drivers are bad according to the passage?A. They have been cheated by taxicab drivers before.B. Taxicab drivers are dishonest.C. Most taxicab drivers are tough fellows.D. Some taxicab drivers did not return their lost properties.2. How did the author return the diamond ring to the lady?A. By giving her a call and visiting her.B. By sending her a letter asking her to claim the ring in person.C. By advertising in the papers.D. By going back to where she got off and traced her down for almost2 days.3. The underlined phrase “a rainy day” in paragraph 4 refer s to ______.A. a day when it rainsB. a time when a family has financial problemsC. a day when the author can’t drive a taxiD. a time when the author has trouble with drunks4. How does the author feel as a taxicab driver?A. Proud and satisfied.B. Annoyed and stressful.C. Disappointed and discouraged.D.

AI think it was my mother who taught me the meaning of honesty. Not because she actually was honest, but because she lied all the time. She felt that the easiest way out of any given situation was generally the best way out. And, for her, that generally meant telling a “little white lie”. As a young child I thought it was kind of cool. And, naturally, when I would come to her with a concern or question wondering what I should do, she generally advised me to lie.“Mom, I told Theres a that I would go over to her house, but now I would rather go to Sue's house to play.”“Tell Theresa you're sick,” she would advise. And generally I did. But I didn't seem blessed with her lack of conscience. On many painful occasions Theresa would find out that I really went to Sue's house without her. These occasions taught me that it is more painful to be caught in a lie than it is to tell the truth in the first place. I wondered how it was possible that my mother had never learned that lesson.I started thinking of all the lies that I'd heard her tell. I remembered the time she told someone that her favorite restaurant had closed, because she didn't want to see them there anymore. Or the time she told Dad that she loved the lawnmower he gave her for her birthday. Or when she claimed that our phone lines had been down when she was trying to explain why she hadn't been in touch with a friend of hers for weeks. And what bothered me even more were all the times she had involved me into her lies. Like the time she told my guidance counselor that I had to miss school for exploratory surgery, when she really needed me to babysit. And it even started to bother me when someone would call for her and she would ask me to tell them that she wasn't there. So, I started my own personai fight against her dishonesty. When I answered the phone and it was someone my mother didn't want to talk to, I said, “Louise, mom is here, but she doesn't want to talk to you.” The first time I did it, she punished me, but I refused to apologize. I told her that I had decided that it was wrong to lie. And the next time it happened I did the same thing. Finally, she approached me and said, “I agree that lying is not the best thing to do, but we need to find away to be honest without bei ng rude.” She admitted that her methods weren't right, and I admitted that mine were a bit too extreme.Over the past few years, the two of us have worked together to be honest—and yet kind. Honesty should mean more than not lying. It should mean speaking the truth in kindness. Though I started by trying to teach my mom the importance of honesty,I ended up gaining a deeper understanding of the meaning of the term.1. The author's mother ________.A. thought white lies were not liesB. helped the author get out of trouble with white liesC. told the author to lie when in troubleD. taught the author the importance of being honest2. The author ________.A. was thankful to her mother's adviceB. felt more awkward when being caught lyingC. found that telling the truth hurt more than telling a lieD. felt guilty when hurting people with her honesty3. It can be inferred that the author's mother ________.A. met her friends in the same restaurant regularlyB. didn't get along with the author's teachersC. was not popular among her friendsD. wanted to have something else for her birthday4. Finally the author and her mother agreed that ________.A. kindheartedness is more important than honestyB. appropriate methods are the key to telling a good lieC. honesty is defined as kindness as well as truthfulnessD. absolute honesty is basic to good interpersonal relationships【参考答案】1—4、CBDC阅读理解--------D(最新·西安市标准化考练,D)Up to 45 rare species of Australian animals are in danger of becoming extinct within 20 years, scientists warned in a report. But hope is not lost! According tothe report, the species can be saved if immediate action is taken to control their natural predators (天敌) and other threats. The threatened animals can be found in the faraway Kimberley region of northwestern Australia. The region is similar in square miles to California. Thirty percent of the endangered species are unique to the region, while others have already disappeared in other parts of Australia.Dr. Tara Martin, a research scientist said in the report, “A large extinction event is happening in Australia. The north has really been the last stronghold (主要栖息地) for many species of birds and mammals and reptiles. The Kimberley is really their last chance on earth.”Many of the species are under threat because they are hunted by wild cats. These cats kill around 500 000 native animal s in the Kimberley region every day. The species face another threat, too. Their native habitat is also being destroyed by wildfires and by wild donkeys and goats that compete for food and water. Humans introduced cats, donkeys and goats to Australia to be farm animals or pets. However, their populations have exploded in the region because they have few natural predators. The report calls for $ 95 million to immediately start protection programs. The report also suggests reducing wild donkey and goat populations in the region, building fences, fighting wildfires and educating the community about how to help the endangered species. Richard Hobbs, an ecologist at the University of Western Australia, says the costs are worthwhile because the measures will not be too difficult to carry out.文章大意:本文是一篇调查报告。

In the recent study, participants were shown groups of three words --- such as “cookie”, “heart”, and “sixteen”----and asked to find another word that can be associated with all three words. 阅读理解--------CWhen Joan gave birth to the first boy in her family in three generations, she and her husband were overjoyed. So were her parents. Joan expected her elder sister, Sally, to be just as delighted as them. Joan had always admired Sally--the beauty and the star of the family--and felt happy about her achievements. But since the baby's arrival, the sisters have become distant. Joan feels hurt for Sally seems completely uninterested in her baby. Sally, who has no children, claims that her younger sister "acts as if no one ever had a beby before."Neither Sally nor Joan understands that the real cause of the current coldness is that their family roles have suddenly changed to the opposite. Finally Joan seems to be better than her elder sister--and Sally doesn't like it! Their distance may be temporary, but it shows that childhood competition don't fade easily as ages grow. It can remain powerful in relationships throughout life.In a study of the University of Cincinnati,65 men and women between ages 25 and 93 were asked how they felt about their brothers and sisters. Nearly 75 percent admitted having hidden competitive feelings. In a few cases, these emotions were so strong as to have affected their entire lives. Many adult brothers and sisters are close, supportive--yet still tend to compete. Two brothers I know turn into killers when on opposite sides of a tennis net. Off the court, they are the best of friends. My own younger sister can't wait to tell me when I've put on weight. However, she's a terrible cook and that pleases me; I tease her when she comes to dinner. Happily, despite these small failings, we have been an important resource for each other. In between the very competitive and the generally supportive children lie those who say that no friendship should survive. Some brothers and sisters stay at arm's length, hut never give up competition completely. Why do these puzzling, unproductive, often painful relationships continue to exist?36. When Joan's son was born, Sally .A. felt very happyB. was undelightedC. moved awayD. admired her a lot【答案】B【解析】细节理解题。
