These benefits include:·Diverse academic opportunities. In fact, students want to study abroad rather than travel. 21 Instead, it will be the supply of diverse opportunities for the student. For example, the student will be able to experience the differences of teaching methods, educational formats and academic program offerings.· 22 Studying in another country opens the student’s eyes to different surroundings, which makes the student know about the country’s customs, people and regions. Knowing other culture alsoteaches the student how to be open-minded.·Personality development. 23 Thus, the student needs to make decisions on his or her own and suffer the consequences or enjoy the fruits of those decisions. With this, the student is taught how real life is, what it means to be responsible, and how being resourceful can help in his or her survival. It’s no wonder that most students who return after the exchange program are seen with significant improvement on their personal development. 24So, why not let your child have the benefits of a student exchange program Exchange programs or study-abroad programs are a great investment for the student. 25 Just imagine, by transforming students in a foreign country, the society is starting to build new blood of more mature people who might just be able to create a better tomorrow for the generations to come.A.Improved protection of social rights.B.Better awareness of cultural differences.C.More importantly, it is helpful for the improvement of the society. D.Most of them are more confident and have better decision-making skills.E.The hosting school can also benefit by making a student’s dream come true.F.Although students really love traveling, studying is not an activity filledwith travel fun at all times.G.Being an exchange student often means living far away from home and parental guidance.三、阅读理解John Nelson, 92, grew up in Michigan and volunteered for the army in 1945.The 18-year-old managed to get accepted, despite being colorblind. He landed on the island of Iwo Jima in the first days of the American attack to take the island from the Japanese. Nelson fought day and night for 10 days before receiving a serious wound to his right arm. The other seven men in his squadron (中队) all died. American losses included 5,900 dead and 17,400 wounded.Nelson saw the American flag being raised on Mount Suribachi after the island was taken by the American forces. He loved and was greatly stimulated by the beauty and the design he found in nature. Once he was asked how he got the idea for his invention, the silencer. He answered,“By watching the way water behaved when it went down a drain.”This simple statement opened up for me the ideas which led to a firm belief that human intelligence needs no bounds. I believe that through the use of our intelligence we will move progressively closer to an understanding of man and of the universe around us and that this knowledge will bring a closer harmony between man and his surroundings. And then, this way lies the chance to make the world a better place to live. Then I remember sitting with him on his boat one night in early September. The secret is to apply in the interests of the common good. It is not for one or a few but for all people. My mother and father each had an acute social conscience. They believed that because good fortune had given them better than average opportunities, they had a duty to perform in their communities. Originally, the phrase actually had nothing to do with dogs, or even with the lazy days of summer. The dog days refer to the dog star —Sirius (天狼星).T o the Greeks and Romans, the “dog days” occurred around the day when Sirius appeared to rise just before the sun, in late July. They referred to these days as the hottest time of the year. If you go back even as far as a book The Iliad, it describes the star as being associated with war and disaster. All throughout Greek and Roman literature, you found these things. The phrase “dog days” was translated from Latin to English about 500 years ago. Since then, it has taken on new meanings. Are the dog days, around when Sirius rises, really the hottest days of the year? Although July and August are generally known as the hottest months of the year in Europe, the hottest period can vary from year to year. In Athens, for instance, Sirius will rise around the middle of August this year. But it?ll happen earlier in the next year. There's another reason that the dog days don't correspond (与…⼀致)neatly with the heat. “Our Earth is like a spinning top (陀螺),” said Bradley Schaefer, professor of physics and astronomy at Louisiana State University. “If you throw it onto a table, after it slows down the pointing direction of the top will slowly go around in circles. Similarly to a ball, the Earth?s movement is kind of wobbling (摇晃)around.”The calendar is fixed according to certain events, but the stars have shifted according to the way that the Earth wobbles. So in about 50 years, the sky shifts about one degree. This means that the dog days of ancient Greece aren?t the dog days of today. What it also means is that thousan ds of years from now, this event won?t even occur during the summer.8. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A. The origin of the “dog days”.B. The influence of the “dog days”.C. The occurrence of the “dog days”.D. The misunderstanding of the “dog days”.9. From Paragraph 3, we know _____.A. people in Europe don?t like SiriusB. “dog days” appear earlier in AthensC. “dog days” appear at different time every yearD. people in Europe believe Sirius brings the hottest days10. Bradley uses the spinning top in order to _____.A. explain the movement of the EarthB. study how the Earth is affected by heatC. introduce the reason why the Earth movesD. predict how the Earth will move when it slows down11. What?s the purpose of the passage?A. To study the relation of the Earth and Sirius.B. To explain why hot days are called “dog days”.C. To introduce some information about “dog days”.D. To show the changes of Sirius throughout the years.DScientists recently discovered three tyrannosaur (霸王龙)trackways in Canada. The trackways suggest the meat eaters traveled and hunted in groups. The 70-million-year-old footprints are the first tyrannosaur trackways ever found. Tyrannosaurs were a type of meat-eating dinosaur that included the strong Tyrannosaurus rex and Albertosaurus. “Groups of tyrannosaurs may have stuck together as a group to increase their chances of bringing down animals and individually surviving,” study co-author Richard McCrea says. He works for Canada?s Peace Region Palaeontology Research Centre. It?s believed that tyrannosaurs were solitary creatures. The newly discovered trackways could change the way scientists look at these frightening beasts.Trackways can uncover a lot about the social behavior of a species. Unfortunately, very few tyrannosaur footprints have ever been found, and until recently, the only ones known were single prints discovered in Mongolia, the western U.S., and western Canada. But in October 2011, a hunting guide named Aaron Fredlund found two tyrannosaur track marks near Tumbler Ridge, an area in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Over the next year, McCrea and his team searched the site and found the remaining trackways. The footprints are at about the same depths which suggests the tyrannosaurs moved through the area at the same time. Impressions of the dinosaurs? rough skin are even visible in the prints. The prints are also in near-perfect condition. That1 s because the ground had a high clay (黏⼟)content when the dinosaurs walked through the area. The land was later covered by a thick layer of volcanic ash, which kept the marks intact (完整的).“This is the most ideal situation you could ask for,”McCrea says.Researchers aren?t sure of the exact species of tyrannosaur that left the prints. But the historic fi ndings show a great deal about how the beasts moved and behaved. “We have extremely convincing evidence that tyrannosaurs traveled in groups,”says McCrea. “This is probably the most important evidence to come out to date on that topic.”12. Tyrannosaurs stuck together as a group to _____.A. protect their home and babiesB. add advantages to their huntingC. deal with extreme climateD. divide the work scientifically13. What do the underlined words “were solitary creatures” in Paragraph 2 mean?A. Caused others to be scared.B. Usually had animal meat as food.C. Usually spent much time alone:D. Were able to live for a long time.14. Why were the tyrannosaur footprints well protected?A. The dinosaurs left deep footprints.B. The natural condition was perfect.C. The area was untouched by humans.D. The geological activities were active.15. Which of the following will McCrea most probably agree to?A. More tyrannosaur footprints would be found.B. The social behaviors of dinosaurs are similar.C. The mystery of tyrannosaur remains to be solved.D. The findings are the basis of the research of dinosaurs.第⼆节(共5⼩题;每⼩题2分,满分10分)根据短⽂内容,从短⽂后的选项中选出能填⼊空⽩处的最佳选项。

events,to see if it would make me more productive and improve my focus on my career.Gradually,I came to enjoy the moments of doing nothing, sitting at cafes without any technology, and found myself daydreaming more frequently as I was no longer attempting to fill every spare moment.Such moments are linked to creativeproblem-solving,brainstorming new ideas and reimagining existing projects. However, such benefits would be a concern if I remained alone at home for too long.“For many working in an office environment, socializing is one of the most important parts and people with a ‘best friend’ at work are seven times more likely to t hrow themselves fully in their work,” says Silvia Bellezza, professor of Harvard University.Workplace friendship also creates a common sense of purpose and a social support network.Of course,off-hour socializing is also an important way to build work contacts. While one month of no social life did not impact people’s relationship with eay have truth.Unfortunately, most children lie even if they’re tol d not to.Research carried out at the Institute of Child Study at Toronto University has shown that this might not be such a bad thing.Apparently, children who tell lies when they’re two years old have a good chance of becoming successful adults.According to the research,at the age of two,20 per cent of children lie.At the age of three,50 per cent lie,and at four almost 90 per cent lie.By the age of 12 almost every child tells lies.Lying needs much brain work, and the better the lie is,the more work the brain has to do.By training the brain early, researchers believe children will be able to think more clearly when they are adults.Recent research, carried out by the Science Museum in London, has shown some interesting facts about the way we lie asadults.According to the research, the average British man tells three lies every day; that’s over 1,000 lies a year. However, the average woman apparently only lies twice a day. Most people think women are better liars than men although in fact they tell fewer lies.Popula r women’s liesinclude“Nothing’s wrong;I’m fine”“I don’t know where it is;I haven’t touched it”,and teenagers.Friendships provide teenagers with chances to develop social skills.Teenagers can learn how to end a fight and still remain friends.Friends provide fun and ees.Friends also give advice to How will you educate him? What role will he play in the world?According to Darwin’s theory of evolution of the species, we are a competitive species and one survives by adapting itself biologically to various environments through various ways. Competition was a resource useful for the progress of society and for the survival of human beings.Today, however, the challenges are different. The 21st century is a computer science age, but there are environmental imbalances, deaths of thousands of children every day by starvation and countless epidemics (流行病). Therefore, it is important that the philosophy of preparing our children for competition and power be replaced by one of preparing them for love and cooperation (合作).The earth is a unique (独一无二的) home to us all. The ecological balance has to be pursued (追求) and this pursuit shows the internal balance of each living being. We must educate our children so that they want to protect nature and thus to protect the opportunity to make themselves more powerful and able in society. Our children have to learn that we don’t need to practice actions that benefit only our homeland while all other countries are destroyed. The destruction of other countries and lives leads to the impossibility of the future existence of the place we call home.It imbalances the ecosystem and shades the hope of a better future. We would not show hate to a flower, grabbing it and throwing it to the floor and stepping on it. It would be foolish! But we are insensitive to the sight of a homeless person thrown to the ground and pretend it's not our problem! Competition has led us to a state of total insensibility! Therefore, we must teach our children that the main necessity of men is love. Love is being good to ourselves, others and nature.( )8. According to Paragraph 2,competition is ________.A. interestingB. beneficialC. unnecessaryD. ineffective( )9. Why should we prepare children for cooperation in the 21st century?A. We are faced with new challenges.B. Many diseases are threatening people.C. They will live in a more competitive society.D. Environmental imbalance has caused many deaths.( )10. What is the benefit of keeping an ecological balance?A. It will help keep our internal balance.B. Our kids will have more chances to succeed.C. It will help make our future existence possible.D. Our kids will have a better natural environment.( )11. What is the purpose of this text?A. To suggest an education of love and cooperation.B. To explain the role competition plays in education.C. To introduce ways of helping children overcome fears.D. To explain why competition and cooperation should coexist.DNatasha, 19, is a sophomore (二年级学生) at Baylor University in Texas. The students linked arms and walked across campus (校园) together.Outside her classroom, Natasha spoke to the crowd.“You have no idea how much this means to me,” she said. She praised the second male student—the one who had stood up for her. Then she spoke about the student who had shoved (推) her and said such hateful things. “To the gentleman who said those words,” Natasha said, “I’m praying for you, and I love you. We just want to see the world become a better place.”( )12. Why did the first male student knock Natasha off the sidewalk?A. Because of her color.B. Because of his carelessness.C. He was deeply interested in astronomy and the stars were brilliant. He led my mind into unforgettable speculation (思索)as we explored the great beauty of that night. I think from this I came to understand that there must be law and order in our universe. There is design. Humans can observe. Humans can learn to understand. Finally, humans can apply. The secret is to apply in the interests of the common good. It is not for one or a few but for all people. My mother and father each had an acute social conscience. They believed that because good fortune had given them better than average opportunities, they had a duty to perform in their communities. From this, no doubt, came my own conviction (主张)that I must give more than I receive and that a satisfactory life must be measured by its usefulness to others. I learned that each one of us has a right to his beliefs. From this understanding, I moved into the belief that people everywhere must learn how to work together for the common purpose of the improvement of human beings.4. According to Paragraph 1, the writer‟s father _____.A. was really interested in scienceB. made great contributions to the societyC. got a lot of inspiration from natureD. spent much time observing things5. What does the writer try to express in Paragraph 2?A. Humans are the most intelligent creatures.B. We are responsible for making the world better.C. Father‟s words guided her to form her view of life.D. We should trust our own beliefs.6. What does the writer learn from the experience of seeing stars?A. The law of the universe never changes.B. There are many secrets for us to explore in the universe.C. What she saw that night had a profound influence on her future.D. What people learn from nature can be applied to benefit all humans.7. Why do the writer‟s parents wantto perform a duty in their communities?A. They can gain more opportunities.B. They are more talented than others.C. They are in gratitude for their luck.D. They hope to help others.CThe “dog days,” I alway s thought, were those so hot summer days that even dogs would lie around on the earth, breathing loudly. But it‟ll happen earlier in the next year. There's another reason that the dog days don't correspond (与…一致)neatly with the heat. “Our Earth is like a spinning top (陀螺),” said Bradley Schaefer, professor of physics and astronomy at Louisiana State University. “If you throw it onto a table, after it slows down the pointing direction of the top will slowly go around in circles. Similarly to a ball, the Earth‟s movement is kind of wobbling (摇晃)around.”The calendar is fixed according to certain events, but the stars have shifted according to the way that the Earth wobbles. So in about 50 years, the sky shifts about one degree. This means that the dog days of ancient Greece aren‟t the dog days of today. What it also means is that thousan ds of years from now, this event won‟t even occur during the summer.8. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?A. The origin of the “dog days”.B. The influence of the “dog days”.C. The occurrence of the “dog days”.D. The misunderstanding of the “dog days”.9. From Paragraph 3, we know _____.A. people in Europe don‟t like SiriusB. What‟s the purpose of the passage?A. The 70-million-year-old footprints are the first tyrannosaur trackways ever found.Tyrannosaurs were a type of meat-eating dinosaur that included the strong Tyrannosaurus rex and Albertosaurus. “Groups of tyrannosaurs may have stuck together as a group to increase their chances of bringing down animals and individually surviving,” study co-author Richard McCrea says. He works for Canada‟s Peace Region Palaeontology Research Centre. It‟s believed that tyrannosaurs were solitary creatures. Impressions of the dinosaurs‟ rough skin are even visible in the prints. The prints are also in near-perfect condition. That1 s because the ground had a high clay (黏土)content when the dinosaurs walked through the area. The land was later covered by a thick layer of volcanic ash, which kept the marks intact (完整的).“This is the most ideal situation you could ask for,” McCrea says.Researchers aren‟t sure of the exact species of tyrannosaur that left the prints. But the historic fi ndings show a great deal about how the beasts moved and behaved. “We have extremely convincing evidence that tyrannosaurs traveled in groups,” says McCrea.
