PART ADirections:Write an email to the editor of your local newspaper, stating your point of view on reading extensively. Dear Editors,I have been reading your newspaper for many years with great enthusiasm and interest. Now I would like to render my own idea on reading extensively.Nowadays few of us read extensively after we leave school. This tendency is rather disturbing, for one should know that reading extensively are no less necessary to one’s mental life than fresh air to one’s physical life. From reading extensively, we can derive companionship, experience and instruction. First and foremost, a good book is our faithful friend. It can increase our contentment when we are cheerful and happy, and lessen our pain when we are sad or lonely. Furthermore, reading extensively can also offer us a wide range of experiences.Though with the advent of TV and Internet, books are no longer read as extensively as they once were, nothing can replace the role that reading extensively plays in our lives.

By being optimistic. we can face challenges and surmount hardships with confidence, keep sober and figure out effective measures even in desperate situations. To further illustrate the importance of being optimistic, I would like to take Beethoven as a case in point: how could he, a great German music composer who became deaf at his forties, compose so many enduring and classic symphonies without optimism?Accordingly, at no time should we overlook the power of optimism. once coming across frustrations and intending to give up, we should remind ourselves that it is optimism that will finally lead us to turn the corner. “the optimistic sees the rose, and the pessimistic sees the thorn.” A philosopher once said. The cartoon aims at informing us of the significance of the consciousness of innovation.

As a communication tool, the phone makes us closer than ever before by providing immediate communication. Meanwhile, there are negative effects on our personal life. They choose contacting online rather than communicating face to face.Accordingly, enjoying the convenience provided by the phones, we should bear in mind that human beings are social beings who need real interpersonal interactions! As a matter of fact, I believe that the ability to speak more than one language is extremely beneficial. Learning a new language not only opens up new opportunities for communication and understanding, but it also helps to keep the mind sharp and flexible. For example, when I was traveling in France, I found that being able to speak French allowed me to connect with the locals in a way that I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. I was able to have more meaningful conversations and gain a deeper appreciation for the culture and people. In addition, being bilingual or multilingual can also provide a competitive edge in the job market, as it shows adaptability and a willingness to learn new things.

The pie chart above presents the different proportion of residents’ consumption in a Chinese city during Spring Festival. To be specific, the percentage of consumption on New Year’s gifts, party, traffic and others is 40%, 20% , 20% and 20% respectively. Surprisingly, the pertinent number about gifts is 40%. Isolated as the figures seem to be, they are connected to one another closely.Undoubtedly, the purpose of the graph is to showcase the diversity of residents ’ consumption dur ing holidays in China, especially over-consumption on gifts as a frequent way of interpersonal communication. What exactly contribute to this phenomenon? It’s athought-provoking question. First and foremost, advertisements of mass media, such as radio, television and Internet, might be misleading. Plus, pertinent action taken by the governmentto put an end to this trend might be little and limit. Therefore, people, men and women, old and young, in mounting numbers are spending too much on holiday gift which floods everywhere. To sum up, there is an upward tendency for people these days to spend money on festival presents rather than other things, which I believe will not change in a short time. T o reverse the trend is not a piece of cake, which requires a good awareness of consumption value and interpersonal communication. Only in this way can we have colorful festivals and relaxing times. (223 words)二、What is conspicuously presented in the given data is exactly the proportion of spending of inhabitants in a certain city in our country during the Spring Festival. According to the statistics available in the chart above, the total spending can be classified into four kinds as follows: the cost of new year’s gifts, traffic spending, party and gathering costs and others. In general, the figures provided above suggest that new year’s presents, making up 40%, is the largest percentage, then next is traffic, party and gathering, and others at 20% respectively. It goes far beyond any reasonable dispute that the above chart is a vivid reflection of a fairly familiar social phenomenon: people in mounting numbers spend too much on giving gifts to each other for the time being. Indeed, the previous few decades has witnessed the growing incidence of such a trend. And it’s so prevalent that a great deal of attention is being paid today tosuch a tide. The general public and the mass media have focused on the strengths and weaknesses of it, but few have come up with relevant actions.Much can be done. The mass media and schools of all levels, fore and most, could serve as a counterbalance, doing its utmost to awaken the general public to the severity of this upsetting phenomenon. Meanwhile, it is the responsibility of the government to curb such a behavior. I am strongly convinced that the sooner we take such practices seriously, the better our prospect will be.(251 words)三、Here is a pie chart, simple but accurate. It goes without saying that the chart records the proportions of the Spring Festival’s expense of the residents in a certain city in China, which successfully arouses our curiosity. As is clearly reflected by the graph, the expense has been spent on totally different things. Especially, the money used to buy the New Year’s gifts accounts for 40% of the ent ire expense, which already outweighs all the others. Definitely, what the chart reflects is supposed to be given further analysis.Theoretically, several reasons may trigger the trend that people tend to spend more money to buy gifts during the Spring Festival, but as for my part, the following two are of great value. On the top of list is that the current state of the affair may have been encouraged, though not justified, by the widely spreading advertisements of gifts. In addition, there is the other point that no one can ignore. It is universally acknowledged that the Spring Festival is the most important festi val in our nation during which most people will buy gifts for their families and friends.(188)四、The pie chart above clearly illustrates the percentage of the residents’spending during the Spring Festival Vacation in a certain city of China. From the statistics given, we may draw the conclusion that the percentage of New Year presents is highest among all the four categories, at approximately 40%, whereas the data of transport, gathering and dining, as well as others account for about 20% respectively. The fundamental factors that contribute to the aforementioned tendency may be summarized as follows. To start with, a New Year gift might be memorable because of the special occasion when people give it to you. If the present is something that only your best friend knew you had wanted, you will never forget it in that it shows the closeness of your relationship with that friend. In addition, festival presents might be unforgettable since they are related to significant events in your life. For instance, I still remember the first New Year gift my best friend, Neo gave me.In summary, people spend a lot on Spring Festival presents for a large number of reasons. Some gifts might be memorable owing to the special person who gave the gift. Others are unforgettable due to the significance of the event. Most of all, it is easy to remember special presents as they give you a significant sense of personal worth. (225 words)。

Why do you think people attend college or university? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.People attend colleges or universities for a lot of different reasons. Career preparation is becoming more and more important to young people. For many, this is the primary reason to go to college, They know that the job market is competitive. At college, they can learn new skill for careers with a lot of opportunities. This means careers, such as information technology, that are expected to need a large workforce in the coming years. Also, students go to colleges and universities to have new experiences. This often means having the opportunity to meet people different from those in their hometowns. For most students, going to college is the first time they’ve been away from home by themselves. In additions, this is the first time they’ve had to make decisions on their own. Making these decisions increases their knowledge of themselves.Besides looking for self-knowledge, people also attend a university or college to expand their knowledge in subjects they find interesting. For many, this will be their last chance for a longtime to learn about something that doesn’t relate to their career.I would recommend that people not be so focused on a career. They should go to college to have new experiences and learn about themselves and the world they live in.。

I remember that ten years ago cell phones were unusual and seldom seen.

Working part time when you are studying in university is beneficial to your life.I myself am a case in point.Through those experiences,I have learned to be independent and responsible.

Take us for example, the entrance exam for graduate students even seems to a horrible monster before us.Some people give up,some persist.

先看以下例子:作文第1句:例子引入句(导入和过渡)1Numerous examples can be found in our daily life, taking myself as a case in point:生活中大量的例子可以找到,就以我自己为例:这个句子用在举例的开头部分,用于引入一个例子。

Thomas Edison gave us an example that success only comes after persistence and hard work.

The example of Thomas Edison best supports the view.He achieved innumerable honors throughout his life, but he never abandoned his pursuit of new goals.

Take the famous scientist Thomas Edison for example. He had done very well in his early life, but continued to pursue something more difficult all through his life.

As a nation renowned in the world for many of its virtues, the Chinese people have been practicing filial piety throughout history. Many much-told stories reiterate this time-honored virtue of loving and respecting the elders, like the story of Ti Ying in the West Han Dynasty who risked her life in order to save her wronged father from corporal punishment.

Take Yao Ming as a case in point:his unbelievable performance comes not so much from his outstanding basketball skills as from perfect cooperation with his teammates.

The famous Chinese athlete,Liu Xiang, who has won the Olympic golden medal and kept the world record,is never afraid of being challenged and regards his process of racing as a pleasure, which is often viewed as the best example of the view that confidence is necessary in people's career.

回顾一下,这个举例公式是:Somebody,插入语(介绍举例对象的背景),could be one of the most convincing cases of…. How could somebody have done something without A? Thomas Edison, one of the greatest inventors and entrepreneurs throughout the history of mankind, could be one of the most convincing cases of how persistence works in the course of pursuing success. He tried thousands of kinds of materials and experienced thousands of times of failures when he invented the first electric light bulb. How could he have succeeded and changed the world without persistence?

Jeremy Lin,one of the most influential Asian basketball players in NBA could be one of the most convincing cases of how diligence works in our life. When he first appeared in the match, quite a few people held that he could not even survive in NBA,let alone become a famous basketball star. However, rather than being affected by these negative words,he trained harder. How could he have finally succeeded in NBA without diligence?"NBA里最有影响力的亚洲籍运动员林书豪可以是勤奋在我们生活中如何起作用的最有说服力的例子之一。

Surveys conducted by some biographers have also demonstrated that almost all successful men and celebrities have built their mansion of success on the bedrock of adversities.Take Georgia Washington, one of the greatest founding fathers of the United States of America,as a case in point:to break away from the British Empire and build an independent country,he led the American War of Independence. However, problems and challenges such as inexperience of war, adverse weather conditions, shortage of ammunition and smallpox arose.Confronted with these adversities,he became more mature and composed, and then won the Revolutionary War finally through his courage and wisdom. It was these adversities that made him a great man and the one who changed the world radically.

Honesty can be a more noble quality than intelligence, ability and anything you can learn from books.George Washington, one of the most influential founding fathers of USA,was not only famous for his wisdom, courage and political talent, but also his honesty. When he was a little boy,out of curiosity he chopped down the cherry tree planted by his father. Then his father came back, when asked by his father what has happened,he did not lie to his father but admitted his fault frankly. Surprisingly, rather than scolding Washington, his father exclaimed"a honest boy is more valuable than one thousand cherry trees!"
