雅思口语备考IELTSSpeakingTips
雅思口语备考IELTSSpeakingTipsPart 1 (Interview)Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test lasts between 4 and 5 minutes. The examiner will ask some simple 'getting-to-know-you' questions which will help the examiner find out a little about you and help put you at ease. These will be general questions such as about your family, your studies, where you come from or what your interests are.Example QuestionsQ: Where are you from?Q: Why are you studying English?Q: Have you visited any English speaking countries?Q: Do you play any sports?Tips!Giving full, relevant answers to the examiner's questions will help get the interview off to a good start.1) Avoid giving short, uncommunicative replies.Q: Where are you from?A: I'm from Hoorn in the Netherlands. (Don't stop there!) It's about 35 kilometers north of Amsterdam. It's a modern city but with a lot of history and a lovely place to live.2) Avoid short, 'yes', 'no' answers to closed questions. (These are questions beginning 'Have you ...', 'Do you ...', 'Is it ...' etc which can be answered simply with a yes or no answer). Q: Have you visited any English speaking countries?A: Yes. (Don't stop there!) I went to England last year and spent two weeks seeing the sights.A couple of years ago I went to New York with my parents and had a great time.Q: Do you play any sports?A: No. (Don't stop there!) I'm not really interested in playing sports. I like watching sport on TV and I really enjoyed keeping up with the Olympics recently.3) Offer examples to help you explain a statement.Q: Why are you preparing for the IELTS exam?A: Because I need it for my studies. (Don't stop there!) I've been offered a place at a university in England to study on an MBA but I need to show my level of English is good enough. Part 2 (Long Turn)Part 2 of the IELTS Speaking test lasts between 3 and 4 minutes (including 1 minute preparation time). The examiner gives you a task card and you have to speak about the subject without interruption for between 1 and 2 minutes.Example TaskExample 1) Describe a place you have visited that you have fond memories of.You should say:where this waswhy you went therewhat you did thereand what it was about the place that makes it so memorable.Example 2) Describe your favourite personal possession. You should say:what this possession iswhen you first got itwhen you use itand why it's so important to you.Tips!1. Use your 1 minute preparation time wisely and make notesof the points you'd like to make.2. The question will help you with the structure of your talk. The introduction can include the item itself and maybe a brief description. The main body of your talk could describe the situation when you acquired the object and go on to explain when you use it. You can then end with an explanation of why the object is so important.3. Try to avoid giving a very dry, unimaginative introduction such as 'The object I'm going to describe is ....'. Get your talk off to a memorable start with something on the lines of: 'If I was about to lose everything and could only save one thing it would be my ...', or 'I've got several things that mean a lot to me but the one that really stands out is my ...'4. If you're concerned about not having enough to talk about for 1 to 2 minutes or running out of time before you've finished, the answer is to practise as often as possible. Time yourself and ask a friend for feedback.Part 3: (Two-Way Discussion)In Part 3 of the test, which lasts between 3 to 4 minutes, the examiner will ask you questions linked to the topic in Part 2.Example Questions (Based on example topics in Part 2 above) Q: It is sometimes argued that local cultures are being destroyed by tourism. Why do think people might feel this?Q: What benefits do people get from travelling to other countries?Q: Do you think people are becoming too materialistic?Q: To what extent are people's buying habits affected by advertising?Tips!1. If you need time to collect your thoughts use expressions(sparingly) like: 'That's a good question.', 'Well, let me think ...'.2. Don't forget to avoid short, 'yes', 'no' answers. Try to offer examples to back up a statement.3. Help make your contributions memorable. Try explaininga point using a short, personal anecdote.4. If the examiner asks a question that you don't understand, take control of the situation with questions such as those that appear below. Responding like this will show evidence of your communication skills.A) If the examiner uses a word or phrase that you don't understand, say something like: "Sorry but could you explain what you mean by ........" or"I haven't come across that word/expression before. Could you explain what you mean?"B) If you simply didn't hear something that was asked, respond with:"Excuse me, I didn't quite catch that. Could you say that again?""I'm sorry, but would you mind repeating that?"C) If you want to make sure you've understood what the examiner has asked you could say: "Do you mean ........""When you say ........, do you mean/are you asking ........?。

Q:What sport do you like to play? A;I like to play basketball. Basketball is a good sport. Yao Ming is a famous player. He is rich.(显然答案结构松散,和问题的关联性不强) 二是对问题的理解有偏差而造成回答偏题。例如: Describe a piece of music you like.有的考生便开 始大谈pop music,却没有注意到题目的要求其实 是“a piece of music”。

IELTS Speaking Part 1 - 1
IELTS Speaking Part 1: "When" QuestionsWhen did you last go travelling?Honestly speaking I can’t quite remember because it was ages ago. I mean, I guess it must have been around 4 or 5 years ago, when I had just finished middle school and went on holiday with a few friends to Hainan Island. When was the first time you used a mobile phone?Well if my memory serves me correctly, I suppose it must have been when I was about 15 or 16, because that was the time when most of my friends started getting them, so I didn't want to feel left out! When did you last have a visitor to your home?Well, it’s hard to remember exactly, because it was quite a while ago, but I guess it must have been something like 6 or 7 months ago, when my dad invited a few colleagues from work over for dinner. When did you last watch a film?Actually it was pretty recently, probably only about 3 or 4 days ago or something, but I only watched about half of it, because it wasn’t really that good. When will you study abroad?Well if everything goes to plan, I’ll be going there later this year, in about 5 or 6 months’ time, basically as soon as I graduate from university here.IELTS Speaking Part 1: Rain1.Do you like rainy days? No, not that much to be honest with you, because I mean, when it rains, you can’t really do anything outside, unless you don’t mind getting wet of course! And also for me, I find it a bit of a hassle carrying an umbrella around with me everywhere.I find it a bit of a hassle = I find it an effort =我觉得有点麻烦2.What do you do on rainy days?Well it kind of depends really, because there are some things I have to do regardless of whether it’s raining or not, you know, like going to lectures and stuff. But when I’m free, I tend to just chill out at home if it’s raining. So for example, I might read a book or watch TV, and I’ll only leave the flat if I absolutely have to!Chill out = relax (used in spoken English)3.Do you think rain is good?Yeah, for sure. I mean, for one thing, it helps get rid of all the dust in the air. And secondly, it’s good for the natural environment. You know, it helps all the plants and vegetation stay alive. So although I don’t particularly like the rain, I understand the need for it!Vegetation -植物4.Does rain ever affect transportation in your hometown?Yeah, most definitely, because you know, whenever it rains, the traffic always seems to get a lot more congested. I’m not exactly sure why, but I guess it’s probably because cars have to drive slower in the rain.Congested =拥挤的,堵塞的5.Is there any part of China where it doesn't rain much?Yeah, I’d say there are quite a few areas of the country where it doesn’t rain a lot, the most obvious place being the Gobi Desert, which I guess never gets any rain, what with being a desert and all! And also I’d say the north of China, in general, doesn’t really get all that much rain, at least compared with the south, so a lot of that part of the country is quite dry and arid. The Gobi Desert戈壁What with it being a desert and all –毕竟是个沙漠!On the whole –基本上,总的来说Arid –干燥6.What effects can a shortage of rain have on people’s lives?Well thinking about it, I suppose one of the biggest affects it can have is on our food supply, because things like fruit and vegetables need water to grow, and rain provides the water. So you know I think it’s pretty safe to say that a shortage of rain is likely to result in a decrease in our overall food supply.I thin k it’s pretty safe to say =我觉得可以说……Other effects:It could result in a lack of drinking waterIt could result in the government controlling how much water we can use. For example, I think I’m right in saying that in some parts of Australia, people can only spend a certain amount of time each day having a shower!7.Can you remember a time when it rained particularly heavily in your hometown?Yeah I can. About a year or so ago, we had, like, several days of torrential rain, almost non-stop, and so the whole of my neighbourhood got flooded. You know, the water was like, up to my knees, and so traffic came to a complete standstill. So yeah, that was probably the worst time I can remember.About a year or so ago –一年前左右Like -(表示思考下面的话或用作口头禅)Some people say "like" when they are thinking about what to say next or because it has become their habit to say it.Torrential rain –暴雨The traffic came to a (complete) standstill交通瘫痪了So yeah –所以嗯,所以说呢,(总结的时候可以用这话开头)8.Do you think the seasons have changed in recent years, compared to the past?Yeah I’d say they have. You know, I think it’s fair to say the summer has got quite a lot hotter, because I mean, it seems to be hitting 40 degrees every year now, and that definitely wasn’t the c ase in the past. And also the winter isn’t as cold as it used to be, because you know, if I think back to when I was a child, it used to snow quite a lot during the winter, but now it hardly snows at all.I think it’s fair to say –我觉得可以说It hardly … at all –几乎不……that definitely wasn’t the case in the past –以前绝不是这样的IELTS Speaking Part 1: Time & Punctuality1.Do you think it's important to be on time?Yeah, I think it definitely is, because it’s basic manners to be on time for things. Youk now, I think you‘d agree it’s pretty rude to keep people waiting, and so it kind of leaves a bad impression on people.basic manners–基本礼貌keep people waiting–让人等你2.How do you feel when others are late?Well I guess it kind of depends, because I mean, if there’s a good reason for being late, you know, like getting stuck in traffic, then I won’t really mind that much. But you know, if the person doesn’t really have any excuse and it’s simply because they couldn’t be bothered to arrive on time, then I suppose I might feel a bit annoyed.stuck in traffic–堵在路上can’t be bothered to do something - If you do not bother to do something or if you do not bother with it, you do not do it because you think it’s unnecessary or because you are too lazy.Other ideas:If someone’s late by only a few minutes or so, then that’s no big deal, you know, I have no problem at all with that. But if someone’s late by, like, an hour or something, then it can be pretty annoying, especially if I’ve gone to the trouble of getting there on time.3.Are you, yourself, late very often? If yes:Yeah, I am. And I know it’s a bad habit, but for some reason, no matter how hard I try, I always seem to end up being late for things! If no:No, I wouldn’t say I am. You know, most of the time I’m pretty good with being on time for things, because I always make a quite big effort not to be late.for some reason–不知道为什么end up- If you end up doing something or end up in a particular state, you do that thing or get into that state even though you did not originally intend to.make an effort to do sth–try my best to……(努力去…… )4.How do you feel when you are late?I feel pretty bad, especially if I’ve kept the other person waiting for a long time. So if I know I’m gonna be late, I’ll always try to let the person know in advance, you know, like send them a text message or something, so at least they know when to expect me.gonna= going to (spoken English)5.How do you think you could improve and be on time more often?I guess the best thing to do would be to always allow lots of time to get anywhere. So for example, if it normally takes me, say, half an hour to get to the city centre, then I should probably leave home about an hour before I need to get there.say-比如说;比方说(You can use say or let's say when you mention something as an example.)6.Do you wear a watch? If yes:Yeah I do – you can see it right here!If no:No I don’t, because I don’t think it’s really necessary to wear a watch anymore. You know, if I wanna know the time, I’ll just look on my mobile!Wanna= want to (spoken English)7.When does time seem to move fast, and when does it seem to move slowly? Well, I think most people would agree that time moves fast when you’re having fun. And a prime example would be when playing computer games, cos I mean, whenever I play online with my friends, it always seems that only an hour or two has passed, but inact ual fact, it’s probably been four or five hours! And time normally goes slowly when you’re bored or simply just not enjoying yourself. For example, I remember at school, some of my classes felt like they would never end, when in fact they were just, like, 45 minutes long!a prime example-一个典型的例子in actual fact– actually8.If you could go back in time, what would you do differently? That’s a good question. What would I do differently? Um….., ok well first of all, if I could go back in time, I would definitely spend more time practicing the piano, because you know, I never really practiced that much when I was younger, and I kind of regret it now, because I’d love to be able to play the piano well.IELTS Speaking Part 1: TrainsDo you often travel by train?Yes I do. I mean, I’d say I travel by train at least once a month. Because I have a brother living in Shanghai, and there’s a high-speed train running from here to there, so I always take it whenever I go to see him. What do you usually do when (you are) traveling by train? What do I usually do? Um… well, most of the time, I just take a book with me to read on the train, cos you know, I’m a bit of a bookworm. And I might also listen to some music on my iPhone as well, especially if I’m traveling on my own. So yeah, that’s pretty much all I do, and I know it’s not a lot, but I’m not usually on the train for that long, you know, probably only about an hour or so.there’s a train running = there’s a train in operationthat’s pretty much al l I do –我做的差不多就这些What do you think are the benefits of traveling by train?Well for me, I’d say one of the biggest benefits is that, with trains, you pretty much know exactly what time you’ll arrive somewhere. Because I mean, unlike cars and buses, you won’t get stuck in traffic if you go by train. So unless your train is delayed, which doesn’t happen a lot here, you should be able to get where you wanna go on time.So that’s one thing, and as well as this, I’d say another good thing about traveling by train is that you can get up and move around during the journey, which isn’t really possible if you’re in a car! So I think this makes traveling by train a bit more comfortable and enjoyable than a lot of other forms of transport.Other benefits:It’s often very convenient traveling by train because the stations are usually quite c entral, as opposed to airports, which tend to be quite far out. So I think taking a train is a good alternative to flying. You pretty much know…… -你差不多知道……Wanna = want to (spoken English)Get stuck in traffic –堵在路上As opposed to –和……相反Do you ever travel by subway? If yes:Yeah I do –quite a lot actually. Because we have a subway in our hometown, and there’s a station not that far from where I live, so it’s a really convenient way to get around the city for me. If no:No I don’t, because unfortunately we don’t yet have a subway in my hometown. So I have to make do with buses and taxis!Make do with sth –设法应付、因陋就简IELTS Speaking Part 1: Bicycles1.Do you ever ride a bicycle?Yeah I do, but not that much anymore, because I’m living on campus at the moment. So everything’s pretty close to me, and I don’t really need a bike to get around.2.How old were you when you first learned to ride a bicycle? It was quite a while ago –let me have a little think! Um……I suppose I must have been about 5 or 6 when I first learned, but I honestly couldn’t tell you for sure, because I simply can’t remember! But I think I was pretty small, so five or six sounds about right. It was quite a while ago = it was quite a long time agoI suppose I mus t have been about 5 or 6 = I think I was about 5 or 6 (“must have been” is like the past tense of “should”)3.Are bicycles popular in China?Yes they are. They’re incredibly popular! You know, if you go out onto any street in China, the chances are you’ll see a lot of bikes. And I guess the reason for this is that they’re the cheapest way to get around, apart from walking of course, but that’s a lot slower! The chances are = in all likelihood十有八九Apart from…of course =当然除了….以外4.Would you say it’s difficult to learn to ride a bicycle?Well I think it’s like everything really, in the sense that when you start off learning, it feels extremely difficult, but the more you practice, the easier it gets. So yeah, I guess it is a littled ifficult to begin with, but it doesn’t take long to get the hang of.I think it’s like everything really –here, “really” means “actually”In the sense that =在...意义上讲/从...角度来讲Get the hang of something =掌握某事的窍门5.What kinds of people ride bicycles?Wow, you know it’s pretty hard to generalize, because I think all kinds of people ride bicycles, at least here in China anyway! So to be a bit more specific, you see young children riding their bikes around their neighbourhood, and then older children riding to school. And as for adults, I think a lot of them will ride their bikes to work if they don’t have too far to travel. And the middle-aged and elderly also like cycling, as it’s good exercise for them and a cheap wayto get around. So yeah, I think it’s fair to say that all ages of people ride bicycles, apart from the very young and very old.it’s pretty hard to generalize =很难概括at least here in China anyway =至少在中国是这样的So to be a bit more specific =说具体一点呢cycling is good exercise =骑自行车是很好的锻炼(saying something is good exercise is very native English!)I think it’s fair to say = I think it’s true to say,我觉得可以说6.Would you say it’s safe to ride a bicycle in the city?If yes:On the whole, I’d say it is, yeah, as long as you cycle carefully of course! Because what’s good is that in most cities here, there are separate bike lanes for cyclists to use, which makes it a lot safer. On the whole = generally speaking总的来说Bike lane =自行车道If no:No I wouldn’t, because I mean there are just so many cars on the road now, and it’s not always easy for a driver to spot a cyclist, for example when It’s dark and raining, plus the fact that bicycles here don’t have lights. So you’ve basically just got to be really careful when you’re cycling a nywhere.。

Fluency and Coherence refers to the ability to talk with normal levels of continuity, rate and effort and to link ideas and language together to form coherent connected speech
The key indicators of fluency are speech rate and speech continuity
The key indicators of coherence are logical sequencing
of sentences, clear marking of stages in a discussion, narration or argument, and the use of cohesive devices (e. g. connectors, pronouns and conjunctions) within and between sentences
Lexical Resource refers to the range of vocabulary the candidate can use and the precision with which meanings and attitudes can be expressed.
The key indicators are the variety of words used, the adequacy and appropriacy of the words used and the ability to circumlocute (get round a vocabulary gap by using other words) with or without noticeable hesitation. Grammatical Range and Accuracy refers to the range and the accurate and appropriate use of the candidate's grammatical resource
The key indicators of grammatical range are tile length and complexity of the spoken sentences, the appropriate use of subordinate clauses, and the range of sentence structures, especially to move elements around for information focus
The key indicators of grammatical accuracy are the number of grammatical errors in a given amount of speech and the communicative effect of error
Pronunciation refers to the ability to produce comprehensible speech to fulfil the speaking test requirements.
The key indicators will be the amount of strain caused to the listener, the amount of the speech which is unintelligible and the noticeability of L1 influence
The examiner is a qualified teacher and certificated examiner appointed by the test centre and approved by The British Council or IELTS Australia。
