2023版新教材高考英语一轮总复习Unit4单元主题训练新人教版选择性必修第一册(含答案)

2023版新教材高考英语一轮总复习:UNIT 4 单元主题训练Ⅰ.阅读理解2022·广州质检When my 8-month-old cries, I ask him if he's hungry, or wet or just needs a hug.“Babububuu,” he says. What I need is a baby cry translator. That's just what a team of researchers say they've developed.“Experienced nurses or pediatricians (儿科医师) can identify why baby is crying because they have experience,”says Lichuan Liu, a professor of electrical engineering at Northern Illinois University, who conducted the research. “We talked to them, and they mentioned that based on the cry's sound there're some clues (线索).”So Liu set out to identify the features of cries that can help mark them as expressions of pain or discomfort. These features include differences in pitch (音高) and frequency. The team then developed an algorithm (算法) based on automatic speech recognition to detect and identify these features. This “cry language recognition algorithm” was trained on recordings of baby cries taken from a hospital. It uses compressed sensing, a process that reconstructs a signal based on incomplete data. It can identify a baby's cry against a background of, say, adult speech or loud television sounds. By classifying different cry features, like pitch, the algorithm can suggest whether the cry is due to sickness or pain, and identify the degree of urgency. The team had experienced pediatric care providers assess forty-eight baby cry recordings for probable cause of crying — hunger, tiredness, etc. They then compared these to the algorithm's assessments. The algorithm agreed with the humans 70% of the time. Generally, so-called “uncommon cry signals”— signs of pain or sickness — are high-pitched and very loud compared to ordinary crying.Liu and her team continue to train the technology for greater accuracy. They also plan to add more features, like the ability to identify and classify movement and facial expressions. This could help give a more detailed reading of baby's emotional (情感的) and physical state. They also hope to begin human trials in the near future.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

高考英语一轮总复习必修第一册Unit4NaturalDisasters提能训练(含答案及范文)

高考英语一轮总复习必修第一册提能训练:Unit 4 Natural DisastersⅠ.阅读理解A(2024·浙江1月高考题) On September 7, 1991, the costliest hailstorm (雹暴) in Canadian history hit Calgary's southern suburbs. As a result, since 1996 a group of insurance companies have spent about $2 million per year on the Alberta Hail Suppression Project. Airplanes seed threatening storm cells with a chemical to make small ice crystals fall as rain before they can grow into dangerous hailstones. But farmers in east-central Alberta—downwind of the hail project flights—worry that precious moisture (水分) is being stolen from their thirsty land by the cloud seeding.Norman Stienwand, who farms in that area, has been addressing public meetings on this issue for years. “Basically, the provincial government is letti ng the insurance companies protect the Calgary-Edmonton urban area from hail,” Mr. Stienwand says, “but they're increasing drought risk as far east as Saskatchewan.”The Alberta hail project is managed by Terry Krauss, a cloud physicist who works for Weath er Modification Inc. of Fargo, North Dakota. “We affect only a very small percentage of the total moisture in the air, so we cannot be causing drought,” Dr. Krauss says. “In fact, we may be helping increase the moisture downwind by creating wetter ground.”One doubter about the safety of cloud seeding is Chuck Doswell, a research scientist who just retired from the University of Oklahoma. “In 1999, I personally saw significant tornadoes (龙卷风) form from a seeded storm cell in Kansas,” Dr. Doswell says. “Doe s cloud seeding create killer storms or reduce moisture downwind? No one really knows, of course, but the seeding goes on.”Given the degree of doubt, Mr. Stienwand suggests, “it would be wise to stop cloud seeding.” In practice, doubt has had the opposite effect. Due to the lack of scientific proof concerning their impacts, no one has succeeded in winning a lawsuit against cloud-seeding companies. Hence, private climate engineering can proceed in relative legal safety.语篇导读:本文是一篇说明文。

And as strange as that sounds, the South African-born, Canadian-American inventor might actually be doing it.On December 22nd, SpaceX, the company Musk founded, successfully launched its reusable Falcon 9 rocket. The moment furthered Musk’s goal of making space travel more affordable and eventually colonizing Mars for humanity’s long-term survival. As if this wasn’t enough, Musk, 44, is also the founder of Tesla, an electric car company. He has also helped to create three Internet start-ups including the online payment company PayPal. All of them could be said to have turned their industries upside down. The companies Musk started cover three areas: the Internet, sustainable energy and exploring space. Since college, Musk has believed that those areas will most affect the future of humanity and that he should spend his life working on them. "There’s no shortage of people with a vision for the future," Microsoft founder Bill Gatessaid to Vogue magazine. "What makes Elon special is his ability to make his vision come true."Nothing showed this ability better than the crisis Musk faced in 2008. In 2008, both SpaceX and Te sla were in real danger. SpaceX’s three launches had all failed and the company could afford only one more launch. But everything soon turned around. In September 2008, SpaceX launched its fourth rocket and it succeeded. It won a 1.6 billion contract with NASA. SpaceX was saved. Musk then shocked the investors and the tech world by pouring his entire personal savings into saving Tesla.Despite his success, Musk’s ambition has not gone away. He has also been working on other ambitious projects in recent years.4.What do Musk’s companies have in common?A. They all gained an instant success.B. Ambitious and sympathetic.7.Where may the passage be taken from?A. Popular fiction.B.A biography.C.A speech.D.A study.CThose who claim bananas are fattening argue that bananas cause the body to make lots of insulin (胰岛素), and insulin causes fat growth. How much insulin we produce is related to how fast food becomes sugar in our bloodstream. How can you know if food makes a lot of sugar quickly? The glycemic index(血糖指数), or GI rating tells us. Foods with GI scores above 75 are considered high-GI foods, leading to faster sugar development. Bananas have a GI of 62, which is considered low.Weight loss can be a struggle for anyone, but it is especially hard for diabetics (糖尿病患者). A study looked at how the starch from unripe bananas affected the weight of a group of obese diabetics. After four weeks of a diet high in bananas, diabetics lost significantly more weight than on a control diet. They also saw improvements in insulin sensitivity from the banana diet. What’s more, bananas have been shown to cut risks of strokes, diabetes and cancers (Bananas are the most powerful fruit for lowering the risk of kidney cancer.). Bananas are also a rich source of fiber, which has been shown to help weight loss. Bananas that still have some green on the skin are even higher in fiber.Skins from green bananas can be taken and, after removing the stem and dark tip, cut into small pieces 2-3 inches long and 1/2 inch wide. These pieces can be made into a tea or added to a dish. When you eat the skins, be sure you are eating organic bananas. The flesh of regular bananas is low in pesticides, but the skins are not.8.What conclusion can we draw from Paragraphs 1 2?A. Bananas are likely to make people fat.B. Insulin determines the amount of sugar.C. Low-GI foods can turn into sugar more slowly.D. The faster the food becomes sugar, the less insulin.9.What does the author say about bananas?A. Including bananas in diets is good for health.B. Bananas can cure people suffering kidney cancer.C. Eating organic bananas protect people from strokes.D. Bananas’ abundant fiber improves insulin sensitivity.10.What is discussed in the last paragraph?A. The use of banana skins.B. The benefits of banana skins.C. The importance of banana skins.D. The ways of choosing organic bananas.11.In which section of a newspaper can we read this passage?A. Education.B. Health.C. Culture.D. Science.DIf you are like most students, you probably sit still while learning a new language. However, sitting still may not always be the best way to learn. English learners can improve their language skills through movement, says Tamara Jones. She works at the English Language Center at Howard Community College in Maryland. So, what is the relationship between physical movement and the brain? The idea is that the brain and the body are joined together. This means that one affects the other. Many people are familiar with the idea that the brain tells the body to move. And many people are familiar with the idea that repeating an action over and over again helps your brain to remember. However, some research, such as a study by Morsella and Krauss, suggests that your body might help your brain to find memories. Specifically, movements we make with our body, such as hand gestures, may help us to remember and use the correct words. This idea is part of the reason why experts on learning strategies, which are ways to improve the learning process, suggest using movements. One learning approach, the Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach, or CALLA, calls the use of movements "Using Your Kinesthetic (动觉的) Sense".Beyond helping the brain to find memories, movements also aid in learning, says Tamara Jone s. "There’s a lot of research that suggests what you do with your body, you remember with your brain. And also, a lot of these physical movements will encourage us in class or in life, when we are practicing on our own, to repeat andrepeat and repeat the word as we are doing the physical movement, and this also helps us remember the word."12.Why does the author refer to Morsella and Krauss?A. To measure their achievement.B. To prove Jones’ opinion right.C. To introduce the theme of the passage.D. To present a commonly-held idea.13.How can physical movements affect one’s learning?A. By shortening the repeating process.B. By motivating the brain to remember things.C. By helping one to study in a relaxed state.D. By enabling one to use advanced words.14.Which statement may Tamara Jones agree with?A. Knowledge starts with practice.B. The body can control the brain deeply.C. Movements help the brain work better.D. Language learners must be more active.15.What does the underlined word "this" in the last paragraph mean?A. Practicing English on your own.B. Speaking the word again and again.C. Grasping an effective learning strategy.D. Repeating words while moving your body.第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)依照短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

选修8 Unit 4 Pygmalion李仕才一、阅读理解AAccording to a team of researchers, an animal's ability to perceive(感知) time is linked to their pace of life.“Our results lend support to the importance of time perception in animals where the ability to perceive time in a very short time may be the difference between life and death for fast moving creatures,”commented the lead author Kevin Healy from Trinity College Dublin. The study was done with a variety of animals using a phenomenon based on the maximum speed of flashes of light an individual can see before the light source is seen as constant. Dogs, for example, have eyes with a refresh rate higher than humans. One example of this phenomenon at work, the authors say, is the housefly and its ability to avoid being hit. The research shows flies observe motion in a shorter time than our own eyes can achieve, which allows them to avoid being hit.Professor Graeme Ruxton of the University of St Andrews in Scotland, who worked jointly on the research project, said in a statement, “Having eyes that send updates to the brain at much higher frequencies than our eyes do is of no value if the brain cannot process that information equally quickly, Thus, this work highlights the impressive abilities of even the smallest animal brains. Flies might not be deep thinkers, but they can make good decisions very quickly.”In comparison, the tiger beetle (虎甲虫) runs faster than its eyes can keep up,basically becoming blind, which requires it to stop periodically to reevaluate its prey's(猎物) position. Our results suggest that time perception offers an as yet unstudied dimension in which animals can specialize and there is a considerable range to study this system in more detail.【文章大意】本文是一篇科普说明文。

Making the news李仕才一、阅读理解Taylore is a kid who passes by to ride sometimes and help us with chores. Barely 15, she’s never short of advice, and one of her favorite pastimes is teasing me about being afraid to go too fast on a horse. Last summer four of u s rode down the trail behind our woods: my wife Karen, Taylore, Taylore’s friend Kendall and me. I was riding my 13-year-old, Tawny. We were two miles from home when, for some unexplainable reason, I pushed Tawny into a gallop(飞驰). The other horses were anxious to catch up, and just like that, the race was on.Taylore brushed past my left leg and, seconds later, Kendall went by on my right. I realized Tawny was covering ground faster than I’d ever seen her. She strained every muscle in her body to catch u p with the girls. It was like a truck winding over a mountain road without brakes (闸). Part of me felt perfectly in control, while another part screamed that I wasn’t.In half a mile I knew we’d be crossing the highway, so I prayed that the girls would be fine. I gave up calculating how long it might take before my horse would be tried enough to want to slow down.I was just about out of answers when I saw the girls slowing in front of me. Their horses were relaxed and comfortable, not even breathing hard. Taylore’s face glowe d. She gave me a high five. "Wow, you did well, "she said. "I knew you’d go fast when you were ready."No one in the group had even broken a sweat, except me. I was still nervous from the crazy pace. My heart pounded too, but not f rom exercise. Karen claims I was showing off for the girls that day, and maybe she’s right. But I think I had something to prove. Because despite my wrinkles (皱纹), glasses and gray hair,I was feeling young at heart. And, like a horse on a warm summer day, I’m always ready to kick up my heels.1. How did the race between the girls and the author begin?A. His horse’s gallop made the other horses want to catch up.B. He wanted to show off his riding skills for the girls.C. AA new “smart bin”could mean the end of environment-conscious families spending hours sorting tins, cartons, bottles, and cardboard for recycling. The invention, which can help sort rubbish into recycling categories without needing people to operate. It is being trialed in Poland and is set to go on sale in UK within a few years. The bin, designed by start-up company Bin.E, recognizes different type of waste via a system positioned inside the bin which uses sensors, image recognition and artificial intelligence. Once waste is placed inside, the camera and sensor identify its type and place it in one of the smaller bins. Then it compresses the waste so it occupies less space. It is thought that the bin could be stocked by department stores such as John Lewis, which said it is introducing more new hi-tech recycling bins. Matt Thomas, a buyer at John Lewis, gave us the reason, “We’ve recently seen a jump in specialist bins sales, with a 25 percent increase in the last few months alone. We have noticed our customers are becoming more and more focused on sustainability. In response to this demand, we are really excited to introduce a smart bin this autumn/winterseason-designed to make recycling more efficient and functional for the everyday home."Bin. E’s official release on the market will take place in 2018. However, at first only a larger version designed for offices will be available. The office bin wil l sell at £ 430 while customers will need to pay a £ 107 subscription fee for an accompanying smartphone app, which hooks them up with collection services. A spokesman at Bin. E said that homeversion of the bin will be cheaper and will not include a monthly payment. They added: “After the office version, we plan to create an outdoor version and later the home version. We decided to go for the outdoor version for public areas first because it is more difficult to organize an efficient waste segregating system than in our homes.”1.What do we know about about a new “smart bin”from the first paragraph?A. Vermont and Massachusetts officials have asked residents to wait till snowfalls to take out their bird feeders for the sake of safety, the article said.“We suggest waiting for six or more inches of snow that lasts before taking out your bird feeders, especially if you have been visited in the past by bears or if there are sightings of bears in your neighborhood,〞 Forrest Hammond, Vermont Fish and Wildlife's bear biologist, said in the article. “Due to lack of snow and frozen ground, birds are able to seek in fields and forests for their natural foods.〞Snow amounts can also determine how comfortable bears are and how quickly they consume their accumulated fat during hibernation (冬眠), noted Hammond in the article. 2022年浙江高考英语一轮复习阅读理解专练(四)(含解析)

阅读理解专练(四)(限时30分钟)AFrom the cold Arctic to the African plains, every society seems to have some form of music as part of their culture. Music is so common and widespread that most people don’t even question it anymore. But until recently, there were researchers who doubted it: How could we know that music was really a part of all known societies? Now, Harvard researchers, Samuer Mehr and Manvir Singh, have found further evidence to support the argument. They gathered music from different countries, media and time periods, and collected descriptions of many different pieces of music. Rather than focusing on music first and then looking at where it could be found, they started by studying a record of detailed descriptions of more than three hundred known global societies, and found that all of them have music as part of their culture. To see if people could recognize the functions of songs from around the world, the researchers also created a listening experiment in which people tried to guess the behavioral context of a song. This went surprisingly well. Particularly music that was intended for dancing or tocalm a baby was easy to recognize as either dance music or lullabies. Love songs were a bit more difficult to qualify, because they tend to be very diverse even within cultures. This systematic study of connections sounds like the way that researchers in other fields would study biological patterns. “There’s a field known as cultural phylogenetics, ” says Singh. Whereas biological characteristics are only received from parent to child, cultural characteristics (like music) are also shared between people of the same generation. That makes it much more difficult to figure out where the characteristic has come from.“Finally, ” Singh says, “We s till don’t know why music developed gradually. Our study shows that humans everywhere share cognitive mechanisms (认知机制) that make certain sounds seem appropriate in particular contexts. ”【文章大意】本文是一篇议论文, 介绍世界各地的音乐拥有的共同特点, 同时成为各种文化不可或缺的组成部分。

A“BANG!” the door caused a reverberation (回声). It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!” stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street. The street lights were shining, causing rather sad feelings. I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now … I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron door between us that can never be opened.I wandered the streets, without a destination in mind. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. As I walked on, there were fewer and fewer people on the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.I thought to myself: “Is father waiting for me, or is he still angry with me?”In fact, it was nothing. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps. Perhaps he thought they were useless. I never had the courage to tell him that I liked collecting stamps. All the lights were off except father’s.Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any pity or any moments of regret. This was how he always was. He has been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature. The light was still on. “Am I wrong?” I whispered, maybe… W ith the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks.I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. 四川2019高考英语一轮题型整合练(4)李仕才一、阅读理解。

A“BANG!”the door caused a reverberation (回声). It was just standing there, with father standing on one side, and me on the other side.We were both in great anger. “Never set foot in this house again!”stormed father. With tears welling up in my eyes, I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street. The street lights were shining, causing rather sad feelings. I wandered aimlessly.A young father who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now …I don’t know whether it is because I have grown up or because dad is getting old. Perhaps, dad was throwing away some of his old stamps.Perhaps he thought they were useless. “Am I wrong?”I whispered, maybe…With the key in my hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Love----it’s second to none.1.Which is the correct order of the following events according to the passage?a. I opened the door and entered the house.b. I ran out into the street angrily.c. I reached the place where I lived and saw my house still brightly lit.d. I recalled my happy childhood.e. I began to walk about in the street without any aim.A. e, b, d, c, aB. b, e, d, c, aC. b, e, c, d, aD. e, b, c, a, d2.According to the author, why did his father often shout at him?A. Perhaps the father was getting older and older.B. Perhaps the son had already grown up.C. Perhaps they never agreed with each other.D. Perhaps the father had been used to doing that.3.What did the author mean by the underlined sentence “My heart was frozen on this hot summer night”?A. He felt lonely because there were so few people on the street.B. He felt uncomfortable because it was a very hot night.C. He didn’t know where to go at all.D. He had a bad cold on such a hot day.4.What was the author’s attitude towards his father at the end of the story?A. He loved his father.B. He was worried about his father.C. He was afraid of his father.D. He was dissatisfied with his father.【文章大意】因思维不同和观点迥异,父子俩仿佛是来自两个不同世界的人,两个人心里隔着一道铁门。

根据倒数第二、三段中的“Dad was always like this. Maybe hedidn’t know how to express himself. After shouting at me, he never showed any pity or any moments of regret.”和“This was how he always was. He hasbeen a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do has become his second nature.”

“Perhaps the father hadbeen used to doing that.”符合语境。

选择D项。

4.A 【解析】观点态度题。

根据最后一段中的“As soon as I opened the door, tears ran downmy cheeks. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Love----it’s second to none.”可知,作者一开门,眼泪就流下来了。

他突然意识到原来想象中的那扇铁门根本就不存在,爱才是第一位的。

这说明作者理解了父亲的爱,他也爱他的父亲。

“He loved his father.”符合语境。

选择A项。

BAbout six months ago, I was working in a job where I sat at a computer in an office for 50 hours or so each week. My best friend, Dusty, also sat in an office at a computer all day. We often talked about what a waste it seemed to be, spendingour time inside in front of a computer all day long. I ended up leaving my job, and so did Dusty. Neither one of us are sitting in an office all day. Last week, Dusty came to my home and declared,“I’m going to travel.”Of course, traveling is exciting. It’s getting to experience new things, getting to be a slightly different version of ourselves, but I think the point is more about the mindset(心态) that it allows for than the actual reality that comes with it. Waking up every day with a sense of excitement for the unknown. Approaching each interaction during the day with a sense of wonder. Not thinking about yesterday or tomorrow, and just about whatever’s right in front of you. However, the thing is, we don’t need to be in transit to be able to approach our days this way. It is possible for me to be living my normal life and be excited for the unknown of the day. I meet new people and do new things every day. Yes, they might be in Santa Monica, a few blocks from my apartment, but what’s the difference between a new person here and a new person in Australia?I read an Alan Watts quote recently, and it goes as follows:“If I ask you what you did, saw, heard, smelled, touched and tasted yesterday, I am likely to get nothing more than the thin, sketchy outline of the few things that you noticed, and of those only what you thought worth remembering... But suppose you could answer,‘It would take me forever to tell you, and I am much too interested in what’s happening now.’”Our generation seems to be eager to expand our horizons(视野). But I agree with Alan Watts. There is a lot of opportunity for horizonexpansion wherever wehappen to be. I think I’ll wake up tomorrow, walk down the street, and put on my adventurer’s cap.【解题导语】旅行之所以吸引人是因为它可以让人们探索未知,但是并不一定非要去旅行才可以达到这个目的。
