浙江专升本(英语)模拟试卷1(题后含答案及解析) 全部题型 2. Reading Comprehension 3. Cloze 5. Translation 6. WritingReading ComprehensionA greenhouse is a building made of glass which is used for keeping plants warm when the outside temperature is low. In a similar way there are several gases in the atmosphere which trap the heat produced by the sun and prevent it from escaping. These gases are known as “greenhouse gases”, and the way in which they trap heat in the atmosphere is called the “greenhouse effect”. This is not simply air pollution. Most of the main greenhouse gases exist naturally in small amounts in our atmosphere, and without them the earth would be 30 degrees colder and human life would not exist. In other words, the greenhouse effect is a natural course which is to some degree helpful to us. The problem is that in the last century and a half, we have been putting too many of these gases into the earth’s atmosphere by burning large quantities of coal and oil and by cutting down forests. The rapid increase in the greenhouse gases is making the world warmer. The world’s temperature has already gone up by half a degree this century, and the sea level has risen by 10 centimeters. If the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere doubles there will be a rise in the earth’s temperature of between 1 and 4. This may seem a small increase, but it would be enough to cause major changes in geography and agriculture. Large areas of the world would be flooded, and some areas would become dry and unable to produce crops. It is important, too, to consider that there may be a delay of about 30 years in the greenhouse effect. This means that we are probably experiencing only now the effect of the gases put into the atmosphere before the 1960s. Since then, these gases have greatly increased.1.“Greenhouse effect” means______.A.the way in which gases are used for keeping plants warmB.natural course which is to some degree helpful to usC.The way “greenhouse gases” trap heat on the earthD.The whole course in which greenhouse gases prevent heat正确答案:C解析:根据第一段第四行the way in which they trap heat in the atmosphere is called the“greenhouse effect”,可知“温室效应”是指把热量保留在大气的行为,故选C。

These cars will float along never touching the ground, and t herefore will have no need for wheels.Annoying highway vibrations, caused by the rotations of the disc-and-tire wheels, will be things of the past. The coming highway passenger cars will literally fly above the road, supported on columns of air compressed by turbine-driven (涡轮驱动) fans. The car without wheels has been called a "flying car", and, in a sense, that's just what it is; however, it will not back out of the family garage, start down the s treet, and then suddenly go quickly upward heading for some distant point. On the contrary, to avoid problems in aerial navigation, the wheel-less vehicle probably will travel no more than three inches above road surface. It will travel over fairly rough road and even over smooth water! The inevitable problems of maritime (水上的) regulations, severe weather conditions, and running out of fuel in remoteareas all will require new concepts of operation, service and vehicle regulation.21. For example, in 1988 the hourly wages of women in the U.S. were 16% less than those of men. The gap between male and female incomes varies with age. The gap between the labor incomes of young women and young men is much smaller than that between middle-aged womenand men. It is alsoclear that jobs in which women are concentrated pay less. The larger the number of workers in an industry who are women, the lower the average wages. Why do women earn less than men? Are the differences explained by the factthat women are looked down upon? If so, the government has to intervene, to force the employers to pay equal wages to equal jobs. However, there is no agreement among economists about the causes of the gap. One view argues that women on the average have chosen low-paying jobs in which workers enjoy the freedom of entering and leaving the labor force, which reduces their years of experience relative to men. Other people say the gap can also be explained by the difference in educational back ground which is shown in the difference in the marginal product between men and women.Much of the gap, however, has not been fully explained. It might be the result of some bias against women. It is this part that has produced calls for government action. What would happen if the government did intervene to increase the wages paid to women? One possibility is that incomes for women as a group might actually decline. An increase in wage decreases the quantity of labor input demanded, resulti ng in decreased employment as the rate of hiring new workers declines. The result will be a surplus of labor. Those who can find jobs might be better off while those who had jobs might find themselves out of work.31. The difference in labor incomes is most obvious between _____.A. young men and young womenB. young women in the same industryC. middle-aged men and middle-aged womenD. middle-aged women in the same industry32. Some economists believe women earn less than men partly because _____.A. women are less experienced than menB. women are only provided with low-paying jobsC. women have much freedom in selecting their jobsD. there is more than enough women in the labor force33. Which of the following cannot be inferred from the second paragraph?A. Women receive less education than men.B. Women are not as productive as men.C. Levels of education are closely related to productivity.D. Goods produced by women are not as good as those by men.34. What does the author suggest that the government should do for womenworkers?A. To ensure equal pay for women.B. To explain why women are paid less.C. To force employers to hire more women.D. No solution is clearly suggested.35. What would happen if women's wages were raised?A. Input of capital would be increased.B. The unemployment rate would go up.C. Those who have jobs would become better off.D. Women as a group would earn more than before.Part Ⅲ ClozeDirections: There is a passage in this part with 10 blanks in it. Like you, they studied arithmetic, spelling and geography. Unlike you, they also studied Greek and Latin. In fact, students spent more than half their time studying Greek and Latin. The same was true for most students in Europe. Until the seventh century, all educated Europeans knew Latin. It did not matter if they lived in England or Italy or France or Spain. If they were educated, they knew Latin.During the seventh century, educated Europeans began to study Greek as well as Latin. Greek and Latin had been the leading languages of the ancient Greeks and Romans. All educated Europeans were expected to know these languages. To educated Europeans, the languages of the Greeks and the Romans were important. The ideas of the Greeks and Romans were also important. People knew that many of their own ideas had come from the Greeks and the Romans. To understand their own culture, they must understand its origin. They knew that those beginnings lay in the classical world.Today we have so many things to study that few people have time to learn Greek and Latin. Few of you will study either language in school. Love apple was the name used many years ago for the tomato. The tomato is originally an American plant. It was found in South America by early Spanish explorers. The word tomato comes from the native Nahuatl word tomatl. But when it moved north, the plant earned a different name. Remarkably, the settlers in North America thought it was poisonous. They believed that to eat it was surely to die. It was said that deserted suitors would threaten to eat a tomato to cause their coldhearted lovers regret. Because of this legend, the settlers called the tomato a "love apple. " While people enjoyed other native plants such as corn and sweet potatoes, everyone avoided the tomato. No one knows who first dared to eat a tomato. Perhaps someone was brave enough, or lovesick enough, to try out the truth of the rumors. Of course, whoever ate this fruit was perfectly safe. No one died from eating a love apple. Still, it was many years before the people fully believed that the tomato was a safe, and even good food. But its use did become common, and the plant was sent across the ocean to become part of many traditional European dishes.40. The language from which we derived the word tomato isA. PortugueseB. SpanishC. NahuatlD. European41. What Happens to the BrokenheartedC. The History of the TomatoD. Vegetables in Our DietPassage ThreeNature has devised many ways to protect creatures' eyes. The most common protection is the eyelid--a fold of skin that closes over the eye, protecting it from damage. Eyelashes are useful for keeping out dust and other irritants, and tears wash away any particles that get through the other defenses. Some creatures, including most birds, have three eyelids. The upper and lower lids act like human lids and keep out twigs, dirt and sand. The third eyelid, however, is a semitransparent tissue that crosses over the eye from the inside corner to the outside corner. Because of this protective membrane, birds seldom have to blink. They close their eyes only when they go to sleep. In ducks, this third eyelid self as an underwater diving mask that helps the ducks find food. Most fish and snakes have no eyelids at all. Instead, a hard glassy covering protects their eyes. In fish, water constantly sweeps away dirt from the covering. And a snake's eyesight is usually so bad that a little dirt obscuring its vision does not disturb it greatly.Eyelashes defend the eye by shading it from glare. They also act like miniature brushes to remove dust. Camels have lashes that are four inches long to protect their eyes from windblown sand in the desert.44. A camel has long eyelashesA. to keep windblown sand out of its eyesB. that get in the way of its sightC. to help it see betterD. to attract other camels45. Protecting the EyePassage FourAs part of an ongoing campaign against polyvinyl chloride (聚氯乙烯 ), a Virginia-basedenvironmental advocacy group today called on manufacturers and retailers to phase out its use in shower curtains. The Center for Health, Environment and Justice (CHEJ) , released the results of a small study indicating that PVC ( 聚氯乙烯)-containing shower curtains are capable of emitting scores of potentially harmful materials, into people's bathrooms. A previous study, conducted by Environmental Protection Agency researchers, also found that plastic shower curtains can emit toxic compounds into the air. There's still debate among scientists about just how serious the health effects are especially at low doses. However, CHEJ urges consumers to avoid using PVC shower curtains, as well as many other PVC products. For people who are concerned about their shower curtains, there are alternatives. IKEA phased out PVC shower curtains 11 years ago, switching to ethylene vinyl acetate (乙烯醋酸共聚物). The company has said that 88 percent of its shower curtains would be PVC free by spring of 2008.Manufacturers are not required to label shower curtains, but some do list" PVC" or" vinyl" on the packaging. Numerous online retailers, sell shower curtains--primarily cotton or hemp--that are free of PVC. However, mildew(发霉) can be a problem with cotton and hemp products.48. The move by the Home Office comes four months after officials launched a concerted effort to identify and prosecute companies breaking the law. More than 200 companies have already been fined for hiring illegal labor. The Home Office says names of companies and directors are to be published on the UK Border Agency website. The agency will publish how many illegal immigrants the company was employing and how much it was fined.By May this year there had been 137 prosecutions under the new rules leading to fines totaling 500,000--almost 3,000 per firm. The total number of prosecutions was 10 times more than were carried out in 2007, and double the total for the previous decade.Immigration chiefs are also switching their focus from small-time illegal employers, such as takeaway restaurants, in an effort to major organized criminal enterprises supplying illegal labor, often relying on international networks to smuggle people into the UK.Some 7,500 immigration officers will be re-organized into more localized teams with police and customs officials in an effort to better target what the Home Office says are illegal working hotspots. These could include areas of the economy where there is a high demand for labor including agriculture, construction and hospitality. Nobody knows how many people are working without permission in the UK--although estimates put the number of illegal residents at more than 500,000.Trade Union leaders have also raised concerns about the government's strategy, arguing that it could drive the worst employers further underground, penalizing exceptionally poor workers unable to break out of a situation they did not necessarily choose.52. What they really mean is to get just enough education to provide manpower for your society, but not so much that you prove an embarrassment to your society. At least, you need to get a high school diploma, without it, you will be occupationally dead unless your name is GeorgeBernard Shaw or Thomas Alva Edison, and you can successfully drop out in grade school. If possible, get a college degree. With a B.A, you are on the launching pad. But now you have to start to put on the brakes. If you study for a master’s degree, make sure it is an MBA, and is famous law of diminishing returns begins to happen. Do you know, for example, that long-haul truck drivers earn more per year than full professors? Yes, the average 1977 salary for those truckers was $24000. While the full professors can earn just $ 23030.A Ph.D. is the highest degree you can get. Except for a few specialized fields such as physics or chemistry where the degree can quickly be turned to industrial or commercial purposes, if you pursue such a degree in any other field, you will face a dim future. There are more Ph.D.s unemployed or underemployed in this country than any other part of the world. If you become a doctor of philosophy in English or history or anthropology or political science or languages, or worst of all in philosophy, you have the risk of becoming overeducated for our national demands. Not for our needs, mind you, but for our demands. Thousands of Ph.D.s are driving cars, selling shoes, waiting on table, and filling out applications every month. They may also take a job in some high school or backwater college that pays much less than the doorkeeper earns. You can equate the level of income with the level of education only so far. Far enough, that is, to make you useful to the gross national product, but not so far that nobody can turn much of a profit on you.66. According to the writer, what the society expects of education is to turn out people who ____.A. will not be a disgrace to societyB. will become loyal citizensC. can take care of themselvesD. can meet the na tion’s demands as a source of manpower67. Many PhDs are out of job because _____.A. they are improperly educatedB. they are of little commercial value to their societyC. there are fewer jobs in high schoolsD. they prefer easier jobs that make more money68. The nation is only interested in people _____.A. with diplomasB. who specialize in physics and chemistryC. who are valuable to the gross national productD. both A and C.69. Which of the following is not true?A. Bernard Shaw didn’t finish high schools, nor did Edison.B. One must think carefully before pursuing a master degree.C. The higher your education level, the more money you will earn.D. If you are too well-educated, you’ll be over educated for society’s demands.70. The writer sees education as _____.A. a means of providing job security and financial security and a means of meeting a c ountry’s demands for technical workersB. a way to broaden one’s horizonsC. more important than finding a jobD. an opportunity that everyone should havePassage 3Not all Americans are fit, or even try to be fit. The overallpopulation is becoming heavier, because of bad eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle. Some researches estimate that less than half of Americans exercise in their leisure time. Exper ts say that it is not because Americans “don’t know what’s good f or them”? They just don’t do it. Compared to the beginning of the 1980s, 75% of Americans in the 1990s say that physical fitness is more important to them now than it was then. But the National Center for Health Statistics reports that the number of people who are at least 20% over their desirable weight has risen from one in four to one in three Americans.Full of information on nutrition and proper diet is on newspapers and magazines. Television news programs urge people to eat more vegetables and warn of the dangers of high-fat diets and high cholesterol levels, particularly heart disease and certain types of cancer. Since 1994 the government has required uniform labeling so that consumers can compare the fat and calories in the food they buy. More than half ofAmericans say that they pay attention to the nutritional content of the food they eat, but they also eat what they really want whenever they feel like it.Experts say that it is a combination of social, cultural, and psychological factors that determine the way people eat. An article on America’s weight problems refers to “the culture of over-indulgence seemingly ingrained in American life”. “The land of plenty seems destined to include plenty of pounds as well,” they conclude. Part of the problem is that Americans eat larger portions and often go back for second helpings, in contrast to the reasonable amount people in many other countries have.Another factor is Americans’ love of fast food. Some estimates are that 50% of Americans eat pizza once every twoweek, a percentage that is no doubt quite a bit higher among high school and college students. Americans are having more and more hamburgers, French fries, and soft drinks at restaurants, not only because they like them, but because these foods are the cheapest items.Another important factor is Americans’ busy lifestyle. Since so many women are working, families are eating a lot of fast food, frozen dinners, and restaurant “takeout”. Some experts think that Americans have really lost control of their eating; it is not possible to limit fat and calories when they eat so much restaurant and packaged food. It takes some time to prepare fresh vegetables and fish; stopping at KFC on the way home from work is a much faster choice. Often American families eat "on the run" instead of sitting down at the table together.71. More than half of Americans do not exercise in their leisure time because______.A. they want to live a comfortable lifeB. they don’t know what’s good for themC. they are busyD. they just don't do it72. The number of overweighed people is _______.A. one in fourB. one in threeC. 20 percent of the populationD. 50 percent73. Wh at does the word “over-indulgence” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?A. Eating too much.B. Extreme work.C. Exercising too much.D. Sleeping too much.74. Americans like fast food because _______.A. it is cheapB. it is available everywhereC. Americans are quite busyD. all of the above75. We infer from the passage that _______.A. Americans usually sit down at the table and enjoy their foodB. Americans often eat at restaurantsC. Americans often eat in a hurryD. Americans often eat with their familiesPassage 4Beauty has always been regarded as something praiseworthy by people. Almost everybody thinks attractive people are healthier and happier, and have better marriage and have more respectable jobs. Consultants give them better advice for finding jobs. Even judges are kinder on attractive defendants. But in the executive circle, beauty can become a liability. While attractiveness is relatively positive for a man in his way up the executive ladder, it is harmful to a woman. Handsome male executives were regarded as having more integrity than plainer men; effort and ability were considered to account for their success. While attractive female executives were thought to have less integrity than unattractive ones; their success was attributed not to ability but to factors such as luck. All unattractive women executives were thought to have more integrity and capability than the attractive female executives. It is interesting that the rise of the unattractive overnight success was attributed more to personal relationshipsand less to ability than was that of attractive overnight success. Why are charming women not thought to be capable? An attractive woman is considered to be more feminine (and an attractive man more masculine.) Thus, an attractive woman has an advantage in traditional female jobs, but an attractive woman in a traditionally masculine position appears to lack the “masculine” qualities that are required. This is true even in politics. “If the only clue is how he or she looks, people treat men and women differently,” says Anne Bowman, who recently published a study on the effects of attractiveness on political candidates. She asked 125 undergraduate students to rank two groups of photos, one of men and one of women, in order of attractiveness. The students were told the photos were of candidates for political offices. They were asked to rank them again, in the order that they would vote for them. The results showed that attractive males utterly defeated unattractive men, but the women who had been ranked most attractive invariably received the fewest votes.76. The word “liability” in Paragraph 1 most prob ably means “_______”.A. misfortuneB. instabilityC. disadvantageD. burden77. In traditionally female jobs, attractiveness _______.A. reinforces the feminine qualities requiredB. makes women look more honest and capableC. is of primary importance to womenD. often enables women to succeed quickly78. Bowman’s experiment reveals that when it comes topolitics, attractiveness _____.A. turns out to be an obstacle to menB. affects men and women alikeC. has as little effect on men as on womenD. is more of an obstacle than a benefit to women79. I t can be inferred from the passage that people’s views on beauty are often _____.A. practicalB. prejudicedC. old-fashionedD. radical80. The author writes this passage to _______.A. discuss the negative aspects of being attractiveB. give advice to job seekers who are attractiveC. demand equal rights for womenD. emphasize the importance of appearancePart Ⅳ Translation ( 2 × 10 points)Directions: There are 10 sentences in this section. teacher and other children,so that we can be sure they "know"all the words they are reading. This means that when they don't know a word, they are going to make a mistake, right in front of everyone. After having taught fifth-grade classes for four years,I decided to try at all costs to rid them of their fear and dislike of books, and to get them to read oftener and more adventurously. One day soon after school had started,I said to them,"Now I'm going to say something about reading that you have probably never heard a teacher say before.I would like you to read a lot of books this just skip over those parts and go on to the next good part."This is exactly what reading should be and in school so seldom is an exciting, joyous adventure.Find something, dive into it,take the good
