W: Good evening! Welcome to “Four Season”. Do you have

a booking?

A: Sure .I booked a table, at 7:30 p.m. Room 22

W: OK. Let me have a look…Oh Miss Lee right?

A:No, it is Miss Yu. My assistant booked it this morning .Please check it again.

W:OK! Wait a minute please .let me check it, oh I’m sorry .There is something wrong with the computer. Yes, Miss Yu, a table in Room 22 at 7:30 p.m. Right?

A: Yes!

W: This way please!

W:Good evening. Here are the menus, could you call a waiter when you want to order?

B: Sure.

A:May, today we’re going to have some Chinese food. I think you must be interested in it.

M: Oh, Chinese food. That’s great. This is my first time to eat Chinese food. I’m so expecting!

A: Ha-ha. Let’s call the waitress. Waitress~!

W: Yes .What can I do for you.

A:Yeah, We’re going to order some dishes.

W: OK

B:‘Congee Pike Maw with Roast Duck” sounds delicious. I’ll take it.

B: Hey, May. Do you know something about Chinese table manners?

M: Err ~~ I really don’t know .I just know Chinese dinner table is chopsticks instead of knife and fork.

A: Ha-ha, that’s only superficial.

M: Is it very complex?

B:Ah, a little. There are mostly concerned with the use of chopsticks. Otherwise generally Chinese table manners are rather more informal.

A: Yes, but I have to tell you that Chinese eating habits is that unlike the West, where everyone has his/her own plate of food. In China the dishes are on the table and everybody shares together.

M: Shares? How?

B: Use the chopsticks. Chopsticks must always be held in the correct manner. They should be held between the thumb and fingers of the right .As they are traditionally held in the right hand only, left-handed chopsticks use is consider as improper etiquette by some people.

M: So I need to use them with my right hand?

A: Yes. When communal chopsticks are supplied with shared plates of food, it is considered impolite to use your own chopsticks to pick up the food from the shared plate or eat using the communal chopsticks. An exception to this rule is made in intimate family dinners where family members
