Choose one best answer and blacken the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet.Debate is a valuable way to practise communicating. It can also bring long-lasting rewards, especially for people working with Western businesses. The main activity of debate is presenting one's opinion and supporting it with evidence, such as statistics or facts. It is a way of persuasive communication.Charles Lebeau helped create the "Discover Debate" method. He says debate is important to understanding how people communicate in Western business. Successful debaters learn how togive their opinion, reasons and support. "What we are trying to do is to develop a kind of thinking or approach to discussion and how to interact (交流) with someone else's opinion, rather than brush their opinion aside."Debate skills are also important in selling a product, he says. In that situation, the judges are the customers. "So on Monday, for example, one company may come in and present their case to the customer and they'll make as strong a case as they can. On Tuesday, the next day, another company will come in and present their case to the customer. Usually the party that can present the strongest case wins."Debate also strengthens critical thinking. In other words, it helps students learn to ask questions and try to understand someone's reasons and evidence.Mr. Lebeau points out that successful debaters learn to listen carefully to what other people are saying. Then, they look for the weak points in someone else's opinion or argument. He says debate teaches a systematic way of questioning.Successful debaters also learn to think from someone else's point of view. Mr. Lebeau says debate can help broaden the mind. "There's an expression in English: don't criticize another person before you have walked in their shoes. I think the wonderful thing about debate is, it puts us in another person's shoes."第36题According to Paragraph 1, what is the purpose of debate?A.To bring long-lasting material rewards.B.To present evidence such as statistics and facts.C.To respond to questions in a systematic way.D.To persuade people to accept your opinions.第37题Why is debate important?A.It helps people understand others better.B.It allows people to present their opinions.C.It develops one's thinking and communicative competence.D.It gives one the opportunity to brush others' opinion aside.第38题What does the underlined word "case" in Paragraph 3 refer to?A.Container.B.Evidence.C.Problem.D.Product.第39题What can debaters benefit from "walking in another person's shoes"?A.Becoming more broad-minded.B.Developing critical thinking.C.Finding others' weak points.D.Trying out others' methods.上一题下一题(40~43/共20题)Part ⅢReading ComprehensionDirections:There are some reading passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions. For each question there are four suggested answers marked [A]、[B]、[C] and [D]. Choose one best answer and blacken the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet. We all love a hero, and rescue dogs are some of the biggest heroes of all. You will often find them going above and beyond duty to save someone, risking—and at times losing—their lives in the process.Rescue dogs are generally found in the Sporting and Hunting Groups, or from the traditional Herding Group. These types include the Bloodhound, Labrador Retriever, Newfoundland, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and Belgian Malinois—all of which are chosen for search-and-rescue duty because of their amazing physical strength, loyalty, and their tendency for mental stability. These types also have a keen sense of hearing and smell—to better locate lost individuals—and are often able to access hard-to-reach areas. As highly trained animals, they serve in many different fields, including specialist Search, snow slide rescue, dead body location, and tracking. To overcome obstacles and succeed when performing the demanding duties of a search-and-rescue worker, a dog must display certain qualities. In addition to intelligence and strength, the dog must be swift, confident, easily trainable, adaptable, and have a high level of stamina (耐力) and endurance. A strong sense of group cooperation and an ability to engage in friendly play during "down" time is also required of search-and-rescue dogs.A rescue dog goes through many, many hours of intensive training to be fit for duty. Training is not for the faint-hearted. Certification training can take from two to three years, working three to four hours a day, three to six days a week, often in group, team-oriented sessions. Each search-and-rescue field requires different types of training. Rescue training, for instance, includes "air scenting"—where dogs are trained to smell the air for the victim's scent (气味) and then follow the scent to the person. This ability is crucial to finding victims trapped under collapsed buildings and snow slide.第40题Rescue dogs are chosen probably because ______.A.they are loyalB.they are braveC.they have amazing appearancesD.they have good eyesight第41题What does "faint-hearted" in Paragraph 5 mean?A.Courageous.B.Cowardly.C.Energetic.D.Slow.第42题Which ability is most important for dogs to rescue people trapped in snow?A.Sharp hearing.B.Swift movement.C.Extraordinary smelling.D.A strong memory. What is the passage mainly about?A.Selection process of rescue dogs.B.Qualities and training of rescue dogs.C.Risks rescue dogs are faced with.D.Types of tasks rescue dogs can perform.上一题下一题(44~47/共20题)Part ⅢReading ComprehensionDirections:There are some reading passages in this part. Choose one best answer and blacken the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet.Eating an apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away, but it does reduce the amount of trips you make to the drug store per year. That's according to a new study that investigates whether there's any truth in the old saying.A team of researchers led by Dr Matthew Davis, of the University of Michigan School of Nursing, asked 8,399 participants to answer survey questions about diet and health. A total of 753 were apple eaters, consuming at least 149g of raw apple per day. The remaining 7,646 were classed as non-apple eaters. When both groups answered questions on trips to the doctor and trips to the drug store per year, the apple eaters were found to be 27% less likely to visit the druggist for drugs.Trips to the doctor were not significantly affected by apple consumption, though. "Evidence does not support that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. However, the small number of US adults who eat an apple a day does appear to use fewer prescription medications," the study concludes.Apple eaters were also found to be less likely to smoke and be more likely to have a higher educational attainment than non-apple eaters. While apples do not compete with oranges, they do contain some immune (免疫的) system-increasing vitamin C, which may be why apple-eaters visit the druggist less. With over 8mg of vitamin C per medium-sized fruit, an apple can provide roughly 14% your daily recommended intake.Previous studies have also linked apple consumption to a lower risk of Type 2 diabetes (二型糖尿病), improved lung function and a lower risk of colon (结肠) cancer.第44题How many non-apple eaters answered survey questions in the research?A.149.B.7,646.C.753.D.8,399.第45题What is the conclusion of the study?A.Apple consumption has greatly reduced US adults' trips to the doctor.B.An apple a day does keep the doctor away.C.Apples are far more nutritious than oranges.D.A small number of US adult apple eaters tend to take less medicine. What can we learn from the passage?A.Apples are better than oranges.B.Apples do have some vitamin C to increase the immune system.C.Apples can help cure certain diseases.D.Apples can provide people with sufficient daily intake of energy.第47题What can be described as the writing style of this passage?A.Objective.B.Creative.C.Subjective.D.Persuasive.上一题下一题(48~51/共20题)Part ⅢReading ComprehensionDirections:There are some reading passages in this part. Each passage is followed by some questions. For each question there are four suggested answers marked [A]、[B]、[C] and [D]. Choose one best answer and blacken the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet.Sometimes I scratch my head when I read about the government's efforts to improve schools: new standards and tests to be applied, strict teacher evaluations, and threats of school closures and job losses. They frighten the school employees, not to mention the students. Instead of making people unable to solve problems or try new ideas—which is what fear does to us—research on school reform strongly suggests that policy-makers should encourage school leaders to take a more humane approach. In their study on the reform efforts of twelve Chicago public schools, Bryk and Schneider found that enabling positive social relationships between the adults was the key to successful school improvement and that trust was at the heart of those relationships.Trust in schools comes down to one thing: psychological safety or safety to speak one's mind, to discuss with openness and honesty what is and isn't working, to make collective decisions.Yet this kind of safety doesn't come easily to schools. According to Bryk and Schneider, the adults in school rely on each other to do their jobs correctly and with integrity (正直). The challenge is that our expectations are very diverse based on our unique backgrounds. At one school where I taught, each teacher had different expectations about how much extra effort teachers should put into their work—a big difference between the teachers who left after the last bell and those who worked into the evening. And when expectations are unconscious or unspoken, it becomes impossible for others to live up to them.We also make assumptions about the intentions behind a person's behavior. As we all know, assumptions are often wrong. For example, parents and teachers may think the principal made a particular decision based on his career advancement rather than what's best for the students. If we don't feel psychologically safe to question our assumptions and expectations, trust flies out the window and our relationships suffer.第48题According to Paragraph 1, why does the author scratch his head?A.Because he doesn't know what to do once schools are closed.B.Because he is not sure about the practicability of those new tests.C.Because he is concerned that many teachers will lose their jobs.D.Because he is not in favor of the government's reform efforts.第49题According to Bryk and Schneider, what was most important for successful school improvement?A.New standards and tests in schools.B.Positive social relationships.C.Strict teacher and student evaluations.D.Assistance of the government.第50题What is meant by trust in school?A.Freedom to express one's views.B.Extra effort teachers put into their work.C.Independence of the teachers in schools.D.Unconscious and unspoken expectations.第51题What does the author say about the assumptions made about the intentions behind a person's behavior?A.They should be trusted.B.They are often bold.C.They are often incorrect.D.They should be encouraged.上一题下一题(52~55/共20题)Part ⅢReading ComprehensionDirections:There are some reading passages in this part. Choose one best answer and blacken the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet. An interesting project called Blue Zones is recording the lifestyle secrets of the communities with the highest concentrations of centenarians in the world. The people in the five regions in Europe, Latin America, Asia and the US that live to be 100 have a lot going for them. Genes probably play a small role, but these folks also have strong social ties, tightly-knit families and lots of opportunities to exercise. As we were examining the dietary secrets of the Blue Zones, as described in author Dan Buettner's latest book, The Blue Zones Solution, we were struck by how essential tea drinking is in these regions. In fact, Buettner's Blue Zones Beverage Rule—a kind of guideline summarized from his 15 or so years of studying these places—is: "Drink coffee for breakfast, tea in the afternoon, wine at 5 p.m."Science has plenty to say about the healthful virtues of green tea. Researchers are most enthusiastic about the components in green tea, as well as foods like cocoa. Why might they help so many Okinawans in Japan break 100? Some components in green tea can lower the risk of stroke, heart disease and several cancers. One review study also found that drinking green tea can slightly improve metabolism (新陈代谢).If you find yourself on the island of Ikaria, the Greek Blue Zone in the middle of the Aegean, you won't be offered any tea made with tea leaves. Instead, Ikarians typically make their daily cup of tea with just one fresh herb that they have picked themselves that day—either rosemary, wild sage, oregano, marjoram, mint or dandelion, all plants that may have anti-inflammatory (消炎的) properties, which may help lower blood pressure. This could explain Ikaria's very low dementia (痴呆) rate, since high blood pressure is a risk factor for the disease.第52题What does the underlined word "centenarians" in Paragraph 1 refer to?A.People who have secret lifestyles.B.People who enjoy physical exercise.C.People who are one hundred years old or older.D.People who carry, the gene for being slim.第53题According to Paragraph 3, what is the recommended time for tea drinking?A.In the morning.B.Any time of a day.C.In the early evening.D.In the afternoon.第54题What may the tea Ikarians drink daily help?A.To improve metabolism.B.To lower blood pressure.C.To lower life stress.D.To improve social relationships.第55题What might be the best title of the passage?A.Tea-Drinking TipsB.Lifestyle Secrets of IkariansC.Tea-Drinking Ceremony in OkinawaD.Blue Zones Solutions上一题下一题(56~60/共5题)Part ⅤDaily ConversationDirections: Pick out the appropriate expressions from the eight Choices below and complete the following dialogues by blackening the corresponding letter on the Answer Sheet.A.Can I speak to Mr. Johnson, pleaseB.I'll tell him you've calledC.I'll give him the messageD.What can I do for youE.Can you tell him that we can meet tomorrow afternoon in my officeF.Can I take a messageG.Can you ask him to call me back as soon as possibleH.That's rightWoman: Hello, Mr. Johnson's office.Man: Good morning. 1 ?Woman: Sorry, he's in a meeting at the moment. 2 ?Man: Yes. Each passage is followed by some questions or incomplete statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. You should decide on the best choice and then mark the corresponding letter on the ANSWER SHEET.Passage OneIn many American universities, the total work for a degree consists of thirty-six courses each lasting for one semester. A typical course consists of three classes per week for fifteen weeks. While attending a university, a student will probably attend four or five courses during each semester. Normally a student would expect to take four years attending two semesters each year. It is possible for a student to move between one university and another during his degree course, though this is not in fact done as regular practice. For every course that follows, a student is given a grade, which is recorded, and the record is available for the student to show to future employers. All this imposes a constant pressure and strain of work, but in spite of this, some students still find time for great activity in student affairs. Elections to positions in student organizations arouse much enthusiasm. A student who has held one of these positions is much respected and it will be of benefit to him later in his career. The effective work of maintaining discipline is usually performed by students who advise the academic authorities. Any student who is thought to have broken the rules, for example, by cheating, has to appear before a student court.31、 Normally a student would at least attend ______ classes each week.A. 36B. 12C. 20D. 532、 According to the first paragraph, an American student is allowed to ______.A. live in a different universityB. take a particular course in a different universityC. live at home and drive to classesD. get two degrees from two different universities33、 American university students are usually under pressure of work because ______.A. their academic record will affect their future careersB. they are heavily involved in student affairsC. they have to observe university disciplineD. they want to run for positions of authority34、 Some students are enthusiastic for positions in student organizations probably because ______.A. they hate the constant pressure and strain of their studyB. they will then be able to stay longer in the universityC. such positions help them get better jobsD. such positions are usually well paid35、 If a student was thought to have broken rules, he has to ______.A. be sent to his parentB. be criticized by the supervisorC. be called to a student courtD. be looked down upon by his classmatesPassage TwoMost airlines allow passengers to book an airline flight online. Travel sites such as Yahoo and Google, all offer search engines and online booking for an airline flight. The first thing a traveler should do when booking online is to shop around. There are numerous web sites offering this service, and some may have cheaper fares than others.A traveler also needs to check fares for the desired flight times. Fares can change, depending on when the airline flight departs, how many stops are involved, and at what airport. The traveler needs to make sure he is comparing fares so as to get the best deal. When booking online, the traveler also needs to check the travel site's policies and fees. Most travel sites charge a small booking fee and have other restrictions about canceling flights, and other types of refunds. Many travelers think about looking on a travel search engine first for the best airline flight fares. However, the individual airline web site may offer the best deal, since they often have "Internet only" deals booked through their own sites.A traveler should always have a credit card available when he or she purchases the ticket, and should make the reservation in the name appearing on the card. The traveler will then be issued an e-ticket for the airline flight, rather than the traditional paper ticket. When he receives flight confirmation, usually through e-mail, he should print out the reservation e-mail and save it with his travel documents.36、 When booking an airline flight online, the traveler should first ______.A. visit Google and book a flight immediatelyB. visit Yahoo and book a flight instantlyC. make a choice between Yahoo and GoogleD. search and compare options before booking37、 Why should a traveler shop around before booking online? ______A. Because the fares and services may vary accordingly.B. Because different travelers may tend to prefer different websites.C. Because some websites have easier access than others.D. Because some websites offer better services than others.38、 According to the passage, the flight fares may change because of ______.A. the number of tickets soldB. the speed taken by the planeC. the number of stops involvedD. the food and drinks provided39、 By checking the travel site's policies and fees, the traveler can find out whether ______.A. it is possible to book a flight in advanceB. there are additional discountsC. he is likely to get a best seatD. there are restrictions on refunds40、 What proof should the traveler hold in order to show he or she has booked an airline flight online? ______A. A traditional paper ticket.B. A printed confirmation e-mail.C. A travel document.D. A credit card.Passage ThreeThe market is a concept. If you are growing tomatoes in your backyard for sale, you are producing for the market. You might sell some to your neighbor and some to the manager of the local supermarket. But in either case, you are producing for the market. Your efforts are being directed by the market. If people stop buying tomatoes, you will stop producing them.If you take care of a sick person to earn money, you are producing for the market. If your father is a steelworker or a truck driver or a doctor or a grocer, he is producing goods or service for the market. When you spend your income, you are buying things from the market. You may spend money in stores, supermarkets, gas stations and restaurants. Still you are buying from the market. When the local grocer hires you to drive the delivery truck, he is buying your labor in the labor market. The market may seem to be something abstract. But for each person or businessman who is making and selling things, it is very concrete. If nobody buys your tomatoes, it won't be long before you get the message. The market is telling you something. But not at the EcoDorm, which houses 36 undergraduates and is the spiritual heart of Warren Wilson College, a liberal-arts school of fewer than 1,000 students in Swannanoa, N. C.In recent years, colleges like Warren Wilson took a leading role in thesustainability movement, which seeks to develop a durable human relationship with the environment. More than 600 U. S. colleges and universities have signed up for a pledge to become carbon neutral. Ninety dorms are now LEED certified, the most widely accepted national standard for green design. The EcoDorm is one of only two student residences that have LEED's highest rating. Two Warren Wilson students first proposed the dorm a decade ago. Undergraduates on the planning committee initially suggested that it be built with corncobs or straw. The design, by Asheville-based Samsel Architects, required compromises—as well as a number of creative solutions. The wood used for building the walls was harvested from campus trees that were suffering from a certain disease. The kitchen cabinets were made from recycled fence posts. Rainwater is collected into a disused railway tanker car and pumped back into the house to clean the low-flow toilets. Two toilets, which convert decaying organic matter to fertilizer, are also available on the second floor; students shovel in wood chips after they use them. The EeoDorm consumes nearly two-thirds less electricity than would a conventional building of the same size.Margo Flood, the executive director of Warren Wilson's Environmental Leadership Center, says those who apply to live there "see an integration between their actions and their values". They pledge not to use hair dryers. Their music does not have its sound made louder electronically. The residents plant and harvest scores of fruits and vegetables in their garden. The EcoDorm's residents speak of the comfort of finding a home where their values are shared. "I didn't have to worry about paper towels being wasted or feeling bad about drying my clothes outside," Jeremy Lekich, a senior who oversees the dorm's garden, says. "Basically, it has made my life easier."46、 What is the aim of the sustainability movement? ______A. To persuade university to become carbon neutral.B. There are a lot of things that I like about college that I would like to describe for you.First of all, living at college gives me a sense of responsibility and of being on my own. My parents aren't around to say, “No, you're not going out tonight.” or “D id you finish your homework?” Everything I do has to be my decision, and that makes me responsible for my own life. My room was on the first floor of New Gerard, and I knew I had to go through some glass doors, but my mother and I didn't know which ones. Some students saw me and asked, “Are you a new student?” When they found out I was looking for New Gerard, one said, “Oh, just follow us; that's where we're going.” Even now I feel comfortable in the dorm(学生宿舍) because there are friendly people around to talk with.I do like a lot of things about college, but that doesn't mean I don't think about things at home. 河南省历年专升本公共英语考试真题

河南省历年专升本公共英语考试真题

河南省历年专升本公共英语考试真题全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Once upon a time, there was a province called Henan, and it was a place where lots of students lived. These students were really smart and loved to learn new things, especially when it came to a language called English. You see, English is a language spoken by people all around the world, and it's really important to know it if you want to communicate with people from different countries.Every year, the students in Henan had to take a big test called the "Tertiary Education Entrance English Test." This test was super important because it helped decide if they could go to a really good university or not. The test was all about how well they could read, write, listen, and speak in English. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Wow, that sounds really hard!" And you're right, it was really hard! But the students in Henan were so dedicated and worked really, really hard to prepare for this test. Some students would practice their English by reading books and watching movies in English. Others would join special classes where they could practice speaking and listening to native English speakers. And some students even had special tutors who would help them with their grammar and vocabulary. But the coolest part was that the test was different every year! The questions and passages were always new, so the students had to be really prepared for anything. One year, the test might have a lot of questions about science and technology, while the next year it could be all about history and culture. The test was usually held in a big room with hundreds of students taking it at the same time. Can you imagine how quiet it must have been in there? It was probably so quiet that you could hear a pencil drop! When the test was over, the students would have to wait for weeks and weeks to get their scores back. And let me tell you, those weeks felt like forever! The students would be so nervous and excited to see how they did.If a student did really well on the test, they would get to go to a really good university and study whatever they wanted. Some of them even got to go to universities in other countries, which is super cool! But even if a student didn't do as well as they had hoped, it wasn't the end of the world. They could always try again next year or find another way to achieve their dreams.Overall, the Tertiary Education Entrance English Test was a big deal in Henan Province. It was a chance for students to show off their English skills and prove that they were ready for the next big adventure in their lives. And even though it was really hard, the students never gave up because they knew that with hard work and determination, anything was possible!篇2English Tests for College in Hunan? No Biggie!Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 5th grader here in Zhengzhou, the capital of Hunan Province. You might be wondering why a kid like me is talking about college entrance exams. Well, let me tell you - us Hunanese kids start prepping for the big tests pretty early!Every year, students who have completed their 3-year junior college programs take an super important exam called the "Zhuanshengben" or Undergraduate Entrance Exam. It's their chance to get into a 4-year university program. And one of the biggest sections? You guessed it - English! Now English can seem really hard, with all those weird spellings and tongue-twisters. But you know what my mom always says? "Practice makes perfect!" The Zhuanshengben English test has been around for ages, so there are tons of past papers to look at. Let me walk you through what it's like! The Reading SectionThis part has a few different types of passages - conversations, articles, even ads and signs! You have to read each one carefully and answer comprehension questions. From what I've seen in past tests, the topics can be anything from science and technology to culture and economics. There are also words and phrases pulled right from the passages that you need to explain the meaning of. My favorite kind are the creative idioms and slang expressions. Like if the passage mentions "raining cats and dogs", you better know that means raining really hard! The Writing SectionHere's where things get exciting! The writing prompts cover all sorts of interesting situations. One year, test takers had to write a letter to the editor about environmental protection. Another time, they analyzed the traits of a great leader. The keys for writing a top-notch essay are having a clear point of view, lots of supporting details, and greatgrammar/vocabulary. It's kinda like telling an epic story, but with serious real-world topics. No problem for a creative kid like me!The Listening SectionOkay, now we're getting into my personal strength - the listening part! You put on headphones and listen to conversations, lectures, news reports and more. The tasks include filling in blanks, answering questions, and even labeling pictures or maps. The tricky part is that the recordings only play once. That means you have to be a super active listener - write down key points, identify context clues, all that good stuff. I've been practicing by tuning into English podcasts during my bus rides to school! The Translation SectionLast but not least, translation! This has two parts - English to Chinese, and Chinese to English. You have to accurately translate sentences or short paragraphs in both directions. Now this is where knowing vocabulary and grammar rules inside-out becomes crucial. One small mistake and the wholemeaning could change. It's like a code you have to carefully crack! Luckily my parents have been drilling me on common translation stumbling blocks since I was tiny.So there you have it - the not-so-scary Zhuanshengben English test! With enough practice and the right strategies, it's totally manageable. Who knows, maybe you'll see my name at the top of the score list someday. An English master before middle school? Why not!I know this was a super long overview, but I got carried away reliving all my prep work. English has become like a fun puzzle to constantly solve. Let me know if you need any other insider tips for conquering the Zhuanshengben. After all, us Hunanese look out for each other! Time for me to sign off and squeeze in some reading practice before dinner. Study hard, future test champions!篇3My English Exam AdventureHi everyone! Today, I want to tell you about my exciting adventure with the Henan Province Public English Exam for College Transfer. It was a big test for me, but I learned a lot and had so much fun!The exam was held in a big hall with lots of students from different schools. We were all nervous, but the atmosphere was friendly and encouraging. The exam had different sections to test our listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Let me share some of the questions with you!In the listening section, we listened to conversations and answered questions. One question was about a trip to the zoo. We had to listen carefully and choose the correct animal that the people saw. It was tricky, but I remembered my animal names and got it right! The speaking section was my favorite. We had to talk about our hobbies and dreams. I love drawing, so I talked about how I want to be an artist when I grow up. The examiner asked me more questions, and I tried my best to answer confidently. It was like having a conversation with a friend.Next, the reading section challenged us with comprehension questions. We read short stories and answered questions to show our understanding. One story was about a girl who found a magic book. We had to answer where she found it and what happened next. I was so excited when I got the answers right! Finally, the writing section tested our creativity and grammar skills. We had to write a story about our summer vacation. Iwrote about a trip to the beach with my family. I described the blue ocean, building sandcastles, and eating delicious ice cream.I even used some new words I learned in English class! After the exam, we were all relieved and proud of ourselves. It was a challenging test, but we did our best. We made new friends and shared our experiences. I even exchanged contact information with some of them.A few weeks later, the results were announced. I was so happy to see that I passed the exam and earned a good score. It was a great achievement for me. I shared the good news with my family, and we celebrated with ice cream!Taking the Henan Province Public English Exam for College Transfer was an amazing experience. It helped me improve my English skills and gave me confidence. I learned that hard work and determination can lead to success. I am excited to continue my English learning journey and take on new challenges in the future.Remember, my friends, never be afraid to take on new adventures. Believe in yourself and always do your best. You can achieve anything you set your mind to. Good luck on your own English exams and have fun while learning!I hope you enjoyed reading about my English exam adventure. Remember, learning can be fun and exciting! Keep practicing and never give up. You can do it!篇4The Big Test for Grown-Up StudentsEvery year, there is a very important test for the big kids who want to go from vocational school to university. It's called the Henan Annual Examination for Upgrading from Vocational School to University. That's a really long name, so I'll just call it the Big Test. The Big Test has lots of subjects like math, Chinese, and English. English is a funny language with weird squiggles for letters. I'm just learning English in school, but the grown-up students have to know it really well for the Big Test. The English part of the Big Test is super hard, even for the smartest grown-ups. It has reading, writing, listening, and speaking sections. Just thinking about it makes my head hurt! In the reading section, they have to read super long passages and answer questions about the details. The passages are about boooooring topics like economics, history, and science. No fun fiction stories or anything a kid would want to read. Just dry, dense texts filled with big vocabulary words I've never heard of.For the writing section, they have to write essays and articles using proper grammar, clear arguments, and lots of evidence. No silly creative stories allowed! When I write, I can make up whatever I want. But on the Big Test, they get point off for making things up instead of sticking to the facts. My teacher says I have a "wonderful imagination," but that won't help on this test at all. Then there's the listening section where they play audio recordings and the grown-ups have to answer comprehension questions. Can you imagine how boring it would be to just sit and listen to some professor drone on and on about zoology or ancient civilizations? At least in my classes we get to look at picture books while the teacher reads the stories out loud. But not on the Big Test - no pictures at all, just spoken words they have to concentrate on with no fun visuals. Finally, the speaking section is probably the scariest of all. They have to have whole conversations in perfect English, expressing their thoughts and opinions clearly. If I tried that now, I'd just end up babbling nonsense like "the rabbit ate the apple purple forever!" But for this test, they get marked down for not being coherent, organized, and grammatically accurate. No childish rambling allowed whatsoever!Just thinking about having to take such a massive, difficult test makes me want to take a nap. I'm proud of all the grown-up students in Henan who choose to put themselves through this every year in hopes of getting into a good university. I'll be happy sticking to my simple reading, writing, and arithmetic for now. Give me picture books, creative writing time, and counting games any day over that dreadful Big Test!If I ever have to take an exam like that, I'll probably cry. Or maybe wet my pants from being so nervous. Okay, that's a little too babyish, even for a kid like me. But you get the idea - the English part of Henan's big university entrance exam is no joke! I've got mad respect for any adult who can pass that beast of a test. They must be super dedicatived to learning and hugely smart to conquer such a monstrously difficult English exam. Let's hear it for those hardworking men and women stepping up to the challenge year after year! You folks are the real heroes if you ask me.篇5My Big English Test AdventureHi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm 10 years old. I live in Henan Province with my mom, dad, and little sister Huanhuan.Today I want to tell you all about the big English test I had to take last year to try and get my bachelor's degree throughself-study. It was quite an adventure! You might be wondering - why does a 4th grader need a bachelor's degree? Well, the thing is, I'm really, really good at English. I've been studying it since I was just a tiny kid and I can read, write, and speak it almost as well as my native Chinese. My parents and teachers always told me I was a English prodigy! When I was 9 years old, my parents heard about this special program in Henan where kids like me who are super good at English can take a really hard test. If we pass, we get to get a bachelor's degree in English just like kids who go to university for four years! My parents thought it would be a great opportunity for me.At first I was a little nervous about taking such a big test. But my English teachers helped me prepare by going over old test materials from previous years. There were readings, writings, listening sections - all kinds of stuff to get ready for. I worked really hard studying. Finally the day of the test came. We had to go to the testing center in the capital city of Zhengzhou. There were students of all ages there, from little kids like me to teenagers and adults. Thetest took basically all day - it was marathon! But I just kept thinking about how I was working towards my dream of getting that degree. The reading section had all these dense academic passages to analyze and answer questions on. Thank goodness I've been reading English novels since I was 6 or I would have been lost! The writing part had us write essays on topics like environmental protection and modern technology. I tried my best to craft detailed, well-organized pieces.Listening was one of the trickier sections for me. We had to watch videos and lectures then answer comprehension questions. There were all these different accents to follow - American, British, Australian. My little 9-year-old ears weren't quite used to that yet! By the time we got to the speaking section at the end, my brain was fried from concentrating so hard all day.A few weeks later, the results came out online. I was sooo nervous checking them. I had to get my dad to log into the system for me since I'm too little to have those kind of accounts myself. And then...I saw it! I PASSED! I got the scores needed to earn my bachelor's degree in English! My parents were overjoyed and bought me so many presents. Even my teachers at school threw me a little party to celebrate.Getting that degree was a huge accomplishment for a kid like me. I worked harder than I ever had in my life preparing for that test. While most kids my age were just focused on their times tables and spelling bees, I was taking on a grueling university-level exam. It was an incredible challenge, but I pushed through and made it happen.Even though I'm still just in elementary school, having that degree opens up so many opportunities for me. My parents say I can get jobs as an English translator or teacher one day. Or maybe I'll want to work for an international company travelling all around the world. I'm also thinking of going abroad to an English-speaking country for university when I'm older. The possibilities are endless! So there you have it - the story of how I, an ordinary10-year-old kid from Henan, managed to earn myself a bachelor's degree through hard work and determination. Maybe if you're a young English prodigy like me, you'll get the chance to take this crazy test too one day. Just believe in yourself and get ready for an amazing adventure! Let me know if you have any other questions about my experience. Study hard and happy testing!篇6My Experience with the Henan Zhuan Sheng Ben English ExamsHi everyone! My name is Xiao Ming and I'm a 10-year-old student from Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province. Today I want to tell you all about the English tests I had to take as part of the "Zhuan Sheng Ben" program. Zhuan Sheng Ben means going from a junior college to a 4-year university program. It's a really important exam that many students take every year. The English part of the exam has been super hard for me. English is my least favorite subject in school. I much prefer math and science because the answers are so clear. With English, there are so many tricky words and grammar rules to remember. It makes my head spin!Last year, I had to take my first Zhuan Sheng Ben English exam. I was really nervous leading up to the test day. My teacher could see how stressed I was, so she gave our class a pep talk. She said the English section wouldn't be as bad as we thought if we just studied hard. I did my best to follow her advice and reviewed all my vocabulary words and read lots of sample passages. Even so, I was still pretty worried. When I got the test paper and looked at the first page, I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. The reading comprehension passage was about a really confusing science topic I didn't understand at all. There were so many big vocabulary words that I struggled to get the main idea. I definitely didn't feel very "comprehensive" about that one!Next up were the cloze exercises where you have to fill in the blanks with the right words. I've always found these pretty tricky because you need to analyze the context and tone to pick the correct answer. On this test, one of the passages was about daily life and routines which is usually an easier topic for me. But the other was about economics and trade which is one of my worst subjects after English. I definitely struggled with that set of questions. After the written section, we moved on to the listening part. I was relieved to put the reading and writing behind me, but also dreading what was to come. The listening questions are my absolute worst nightmare! It's so hard for me to catch all the details when the recordings are playing at full speed. My English listening ability is still quite poor.In the first listening passage, a professor was lecturing about the history of early human civilizations. All the dates, names, andplaces just went straight over my head as I desperately tried to write notes. The questions at the end asked very specific details that I totally missed while listening. The second passage was a dialogue between two students talking about their plans for summer vacation. I actually did a bit better on that one because the language was more conversational. But I still missed some of the finer points they were discussing.Overall, I didn't feel great when I left the exam room. My hand was cramped from all the writing, my brain was fried from trying so hard, and I was mentally drained. I wished I had prepared even more, but I also knew I had really given it my all.A few weeks later, I nervously awaited my score report from the provincial education ministry. When I finally opened the envelope, I was overjoyed to see that I had passed the English section! My score wasn't extremely high, but it was enough to allow me to continue my studies at a regular university. I celebrated with my family over a big dinner of my favorite dishes. This year, I'm taking the Zhuan Sheng Ben English exam again to try and improve my score. I've been studying really hard and working on all the areas that gave me trouble before. Mylistening skills are slowly getting better from doing more exercises. I'm also expanding my vocabulary by reading more English books and watching shows with subtitles.Just a few days ago, I took a practice test put out by the Henan education ministry using real questions from previous years. This helped me get a better feel for the actual exam format and content. For the reading comprehension, I faced a passage about environmental protection policies which was pretty dense. But I've learned techniques like skimming for key details and looking for vocabulary cues. The cloze section wasn't too bad this time around. One of the passages was about the advantages and disadvantages of economic globalization. Since I've been exposed to more topics like that this year, I was able to use context to make educated guesses at many of the missing words. In the listening section, the first passage had a student interviewing his history professor about ancient Chinese dynasties. All those historical names and events are still really hard for me to keep track of when listening at full speed. But I tried squinting my eyes and concentrating extra hard this time! The second listening dialogue was actually a fun and casual conversation between friends。

That's the way most parents are living their lives, no weekends of their own, no time to visit friends, not even a chance of promotion in their jobs.Asking help from their parents might be a way out,but problems are that some aging parents arc not strong enough to take care of the kids, and that the kids may also become too spoiled by their grandparents. Then, here comes a solution: families with kids can form a small group, and parents of each family can take turns to look after all the kids in this group on weekends. Thus, other parents can have some quiet time and feel free to do something they've been planning for a long time. At the same time, the kids can make new friends and won' t be hanging around their parents all day long. But there is much that can be done to minimize damage and loss of life. Countries can use radio and television broadcasts as well as loudspeaker networks to warn the public. But an early warming system depends on how far the tsunami strikes, if it's close by, the warning system is not going to be very effective. It found that human-influenced climate change was raising the global death rates from illnesses including malnutrition (营养不良)and heal-related health problems. But even before its release, the report drew criticism from some experts on climate and risk, who questioned its methods and conclusions.Along with the deaths, the report said that the lives of 325 million people, primarily in poor countries, were being seriously affected by climate change. It projected that the number would double by 2030.Roger Pielke Jr.a political scientist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, who studies disaster trends, said the Forum's report was “a methodological embarrassment” because there was no way to distinguish deaths or economic losses related to human-driven global warming amid the much larger losses resulting from the growth in populations and economic development in vulnerable (易受伤害的)regions. Dr. Pielke said that “climate change is an important problem requiring our utmost attention. “But the report, he said, ''will harm the cause for action on both climate change and disasters because it is so deeply flawed (有瑕疵的).”However, Soren Andreasen, a social scientist at Dalberg Global Development Partners who supervised the writing of the report, defended it, saying that it was clear that the numbers were rough estimates. He said the report was aimed at world leaders, who will meet in Copenhagen in December to negotiate a new international climate treaty. In a press release describing the report, Mr. Annan stressed the need for the negotiations to focus on increasing the flow of money from rich to poor regions to helpreduce their vulnerability to climate hazards while still curbing the emissions of the heat-trapping gases. More than 90% of the human and economic losses from climate change arc occurring in poor countries, according to the report.71. What is the finding of the Global Humanitarian Forum?A. Global temperatures affect the rate of economic development.B.Rates of death from illnesses have risen due to global warming.C.Malnutrition has caused serious health problems in poor countries.D.Economic trends have to do with population and natural disasters.72. Its conclusions are based on carefully collected data.B. It is vulnerable to criticism if the statistics are closely examined.C. It will give rise to heated discussions at the Copenhagen conference.D. Its rough estimates arc meant to draw the attention of world leaders.75. What does Kofi Annan say should be the focus of the Copenhagen conference?A. How rich and poor regions can share responsibility in curbing global warming.B. How human and economic losses from climate change can be reduced.C.How emissions of heat-trapping gases can be reduced on a global scale.D.How rich countries can better help poor regions reduce climate hazards.Passage 4Reaching new peaks of popularity in North America is Iceberg Water, which isharvested from icebergs off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.Arthur von Wiesenberger, who carries the title Water Master, is one of the few water critics in North America. As a boy, he spent time in the larger cities of Italy, France and Switzerland, where bottled water is consumed daily. Even then, he kept a water journal, noting the brands he liked best “my dog could tell the difference between bottled and tap water,” He says. But is plain tap water all that bad? Not at all. In fact. New York's municipal water for morethan a century was called the champagne of lap water and until recently considered among the best in the world in terms of both taste and purity. Similarly, a magazine in England found that tap water from the Thames River tasted better than several leading brands of bottled water that were400 times more expensive.Nevertheless, soft-drink companies view bottled water as the next battle-ground for marketshare-this despite the fact that over 25 percent of bottled water comes from tap water: PepsiCo's Aquafina and Coca-Cola's Dasani arc both purified tap water rather than spring water. As diners thirst for leading brands, bottlers and restaurateurs salivate(垂涎)over the profits.A restaurant's typical mark-up on wine is 100 to 150 percent, whereas on bottled water it's often300 to 500 percent. But since water is much cheaper than wine, and many of the fancier brandsaren't available in stores, most diners don't notice or care.As a result, some restaurants are turning up the pressure to sen bottled water.According toan article in The Street Journal, some of the more shameless tactics include placing attractive bottles on the table for a visual sell, listing brands on the menu without prices, and pouring bottled water without even asking the diners if they want it.Regardless of how it’s sold, the popularity of bottled whaler taps into our desirefor better health, our wish to appear cultivated, and even a longing for lost purity.76.What do we know about Iceberg Water from the passage?A.lt is a kind of iced water.B.It is just plain tap water.C .It is a kind of bottled water.D .It is a kind of mineral water.77.By saying “My dog could tell the difference between bottled and tap water (Line 4 Para2),Von Wiesenberger wants to convey the message that_____?A .plain tap whaler is certainly unfit for drinkingB .bottled water is clearly superior to tap waterC.bottled water often appeals more to dogs tasteD.dogs can usually detect a fine difference in taste78.The-fancier brands (Line 3 Para 5) refers to____.A.tap water from the Thames RiverB.famous wines not sold in ordinary storesC.PepsiCo's Aquafina and Coca-Cola's DasaniD.expensive bottled water with impressive names79.Why are some restaurants turning up the pressure to sell bottled water?A. Bottled water brings in huge profits.B. Competition from the wine industry is intense.C. Most diners find bottled water affordable.D.Bottled water satisfied diners' desire to fashionable.80.According to passage, why is bottled whaler so popular?A. It is much cheaper than wine.B.It is considered healthier.C. lt appeals to more cultivated people.D. It is more widely promoted in the market.PartⅣ Translation ( 2 x 10 )Directions: There are 10 sentences in this section. It found that human-influenced climate change was raising the global death rates from illnesses including malnutrition (营养不良)andheal-related health problems. But even before its release, the report drew criticism from some experts on climate and risk, who questioned its methods and conclusions.Along with the deaths, the report said that the lives of 325 million people, primarily in poor countries, were being seriously affected by climate change. It projected that the number would double by 2030.Roger Pielke Jr.a political scientist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, whostudies disaster tre nds, said the Forum's report was “ a methodological embarrassment” because there was no way to distinguish deaths or economic losses related to human-driven global warming amid the much larger losses resulting from the growth in populations and economicdevelopment in vulnerable (易受伤害的)regions. Dr. Pielke said that climate change is an important problem requiring our utmost attention. “ But the report, he said, ''will harm thecause for action on both climate change and disasters because it is so deeply flawed (有瑕疵的). ”However, Soren Andreasen, a social scientist at Dalberg Global Development Partners whosupervised the writing of the report, defended it, saying that it was clear that the numbers were rough estimates. He said the report was aimed at world leaders, who will meet in Copenhagen in December to negotiate a new international climate treaty. In a press release describing the report, Mr. Annan stressed the need for the negotiations to focus on increasing the flow of moneyfrom rich to poor regions to help reduce their vulnerability to climate hazards while still curbing the emissions of the heat-trapping gases. Passage 4Reaching new peaks of popularity in North America is Iceberg Water, which is harvested from icebergs off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.Arthur von Wiesenberger, who carries the title Water Master, is one of the few water critics in North America. As a boy, he spent time in the larger cities of Italy, France and Switzerland, where bottled water is consumed daily. Even then, he kept a water journal, noting the brands he liked best “ my dog could tell the difference between bottled and tap water, ” He says. But is plain tap water all that bad? Not at all. In fact. New York's municipal water for more than a century was called the champagne of lap water and until recently considered among the best in the world in terms of both taste and purity. As diners thirst for leading brands, bottlers and restaurateurs salivate( 垂涎)over the profits.A restaurant's typical mark-up on wine is 100 to 150 percent, whereas on bottled water it's often 300 to 500 percent. But since water is much cheaper than wine, and many of the fancier brands aren't available in stores, most diners don't notice or care.As a result, some restaurants are turning up the pressure to sen bottled water.According toan article in The Street Journal, some of the more shameless tactics include placing attractive bottles on the table for a visual sell, listing brands on the menu without prices, and pouring bottled water without even asking the diners if they want it.Regardless of how i t ' s sold, the popularity of bottled whaler taps into our desire for better health, our wish to appear cultivated, and even a longing for lost purity.76. What do we know about Iceberg Water from the passage?A.lt is a kind of iced water.B.It is just plain tap water.C .It is a kind of bottled water.D .It is a kind of mineral water.77. By saying “ My dog could tell the difference between bottled and tap water (Line 4 Para2),VonWiesenberger wants to convey the message that ____ ?A .plain tap whaler is certainly unfit for drinkingB .bottled water is clearly superior to tap waterC.bottled water often appeals more to dogs tasteD. dogs can usually detect a fine difference in taste78. ______________________________________ The-fancier brands (Line 3 Para 5) refers to .A. tap water from the Thames RiverB. famous wines not sold in ordinary storesC. PepsiCo's Aquafina and Coca-Cola's DasaniD. expensive bottled water with impressive names79. Why are some restaurants turning up the pressure to sell bottled water?A. Bottled water brings in huge profits.B. Competition from the wine industry is intense.C. Most diners find bottled water affordable.D. Bottled water satisfied diners' desire to fashionable.80. I’m away from home, so I have many things to adjust to, such as being on my own and meeting many different types of people. There are a lot of things that I like about college that I would like to describe for you.First of all, living at college gives me a sense of responsibility and of being on my own. My room was on the first floor of New Gerard, and I knew I had to go through some glass doors, but my mother and I didn’t know which ones. Some students saw me and asked, “Are you a new student?” when they found out I was looking for New Gerard, one said, “Oh, just follow us; that’s where we’re going.” Even now I feel comfort able in the dorm(宿舍) because there are friendly people around to talk with.I do like a lot of things about college. But th at doesn’t mean I don’t think about things at home. Although I like college, I can still get homesick. New York is a very good place, too! And sometimes I miss it!76. It projected that the number would double by 2030.Roger Pielke Jr.a political scientist at the University of Colorado, Boulder, who studies disaster tr ends, said the Forum's report was “a methodological embarrassment” because there was no way to distinguish deaths or economic losses related to human-driven global warming amid the much larger losses resulting from the growth in populations and economic development in vulnerable (易受伤害的)regions. He said the report was aimed at world leaders, who will meet in Copenhagenin December to negotiate a new international climate treaty. In a press release describing the report, Mr. Annan stressed the need for the negotiationsto focus on increasing the flow of money from rich to poor regions to help reduce their vulnerabilityto climate hazards while still curbing the emissions of the heat-trapping gases. More than 90%of the human and economic losses from climate change arc occurring in poor countries, accordingto the report.71. What is the finding of the Global Humanitarian Forum?A. Similarly, a magazine in England found that tap water from the Thames River tasted better than several leading brands of bottled water that were400 times more expensive.Nevertheless, soft-drink companies view bottled water as the next battle-ground for market share-this despite the fact that over 25 percent of bottled water comes from tap water: PepsiCo's Aquafina and Coca-Cola's Dasani arc both purified tap water rather than spring water. As diners thirst for leading brands, bottlers and restaurateurs salivate(垂涎)over the profits.A restaurant's typical mark-up on wine is 100 to 150 percent, whereas on bottled water it's often 300 to 500 percent. To boost harmonious human-environment relationship.C. To play a leading role in protecting environment.D. To develop durable dorms for undergraduates.47、 What do we learn about Warren Wilson College? ______A. It has one of the most sustainable dormitories.B. I’m away from home, so I have many things to adjust to, such as being on my own and meeting many different types of people. There are a lot of things that I like about college that I would like to describe for you.First of all, living at college gives me a sense of responsibility and of being on my own. My pa rents aren’t around to say, “No, you’re not going out tonight,” or “Did you finish your homework?” Everything I do has to be my decision, and that makes me responsible for my own life. During the second week I was at college, I had to go out and look for a bank where I could open an account. And when I got to the bank, I had to decide whether to have a checking or savings account and whether or not to get a credit card. Decisions! Decisions!Friendly people is another thing I like about college. On the first day I came to Marymount University here in Virginia from New York, I was a bit confused about where I was going. My mother and I drove in. We did not know the building we were supposed to do to, but the guard was very nice. With a smile, he told us what building we were looking for and where we could park our car. My room was on the first floor of New Gerard, and I knew I had to go through some glass doors, but my mother and I didn’t know which ones. Some students saw me and asked, “Are you a new student?” when they found out I was looking for New Gerard, one said, “Oh, just follow us; that’s where we’re going.” Even now I feel comfortable in the dorm(宿舍) because there are friendly people around to talk with.I do like a lot of things about college. But th at doesn’t mean I don’t think about things at home. Although I like college, I can still get homesick. New York is a very good place, too! And sometimes I miss it!76.
