Once upon a time, there was a court in ancient China where the king loved music. He especially enjoyed listening to a group of musicians playing the yu, a type of flute. Every day, a large ensemble of musicians would gather to play for the king, and among them was a man named Mr. Yu.Mr. Yu didn't really know how to play the yu. But he saw how much the king enjoyed the music and decided to join the ensemble, hoping to get a share of the rewards without doing much. So, whenever the music started, he would just pretend to play, moving his lips and fingers as if he were skilled.Months passed, and Mr. Yu's deception went unnoticed. He grew complacent, thinking he had fooled everyone. But one day, the king decided to have a smaller, more intimate concert with only the best musicians. Mr. Yu's heart sank when he heard the news.The day of the concert arrived, and Mr. Yu knew he couldn't fake it anymore. He tried to find a way out, butit was too late. As the musicians began to play, Mr. Yu stood there, frozen with fear. He knew his cover was blown.The king, noticing Mr. Yu's absence of sound, asked him what was wrong. Embarrassed and ashamed, Mr. Yu confessed his deception. The king was displeased and banished him from the court. Mr. Yu learned a valuable lesson: pretending to be something you're not won't work in the long run.。

English:"Lan Yu Chong Shu" is a Chinese idiom that means to fill in the numbers with inferior substitutes. It can be used to describe a situation where someone or something is added just to make up the numbers, without contributing much value or substance. The origin of this idiom comes from the practice of ancient Chinese courtiers to hold a musical performance in front of the emperor. In order to show off their talents and gain favor with the emperor, many courtiers would bring their own musical instruments, including the rare and expensive yu, a type of ancient Chinese flute made from bamboo. However, some courtiers who did not have the yu would bring inferior substitutes, such as everyday bamboo flutes, and try to pass them off as genuine yu. They were "lan yu chong shu" or "filling in the numbers with inferior substitutes". In modern times, this idiom is often used to criticize people who are just there to make up numbers, without contributing much value or substance to the group.
Once upon a time in the ancient kingdom of Qi,there was a king who was an avid lover of music.He had a unique taste for ensemble performances and would often gather a large group of musicians to play for him.The king was so fond of this that he decided to employ any musician who could play the yu,a traditional Chinese instrument similar to a flute.One day,a man from the common folk heard of the kings fondness for music and saw an opportunity.He had no musical talent,but he decided to try his luck by pretending to be a yu player.He dressed himself in the attire of a musician and joined the group of musicians who were to perform for the king.As the performance began,the man,who we will call Mr.Li,stood among the musicians, holding a yu.He mimicked the posture of the other musicians,but instead of playing,he simply moved his fingers as if he were playing a tune.The music was so loud and the ensemble so large that no one noticed Mr.Lis deception.The king,sitting on his throne,was mesmerized by the beautiful music.He was unaware that Mr.Li was not contributing to the melody.After the performance,the king was so pleased that he rewarded all the musicians,including Mr.Li.For a while,Mr.Li continued his charade,always careful to blend in with the other musicians.However,he knew that his luck could not last forever.He started to feel guilty for deceiving the king and his fellow musicians.One day,the king decided to have a smaller,more intimate performance.He selected a few musicians,including Mr.Li,to play for him.This time,the king wanted to hear each musician individually.Mr.Li knew that his time was up.When it was Mr.Lis turn to play,he stood before the king,holding his yu.He took a deep breath and began to play.Surprisingly,he played a beautiful and moving tune that touched the kings heart.The king was amazed and praised Mr.Li for his talent.In reality,Mr.Li had spent his nights secretly learning to play the yu.He had been inspired by the music and wanted to truly contribute to it.His hard work and dedication had paid off,and he had become a skilled musician.The king,unaware of Mr.Lis initial deception,continued to employ him as a musician. Mr.Lis story became a lesson for all that with hard work and dedication,one can overcome deception and achieve true success.This fable,known as The Pretender in the Music Ensemble,teaches us the importance of honesty and the value of genuine talent.It also reminds us that sometimes,a second chance can lead to redemption and growth.。
During the Warring States Period, the King of the State of Qi was veryfond of listening to Yu ensembles. It was often the case that up to 300 players,whom can be treated very well by the King, were summoned to form a grandmusic show.A man named Nanguo heard about that and managed to become amember of the band,even though, matter-of-factly, he wasn't good at it at all.Whenever the band played for the Kind,Nanguo just stood in the line andpretended to play, while nobody ever noticed that he was making no sound.Bythis way, he enjoyed the treatment as other musicians did.However, after thedeath of the King, his successor of the throne, who preferred the solos, beganto order musicians to play one by one, therefore,Nanguo had to flee away.The idiom "Be there just to make up the number" is used to mocksomeone who passes for a specialist. You can also hear people saying it aboutthemselves to show their modesty.So, in this essay, I'm going to talk something about modesty,which areexpressed and understood in various ways under different kinds of culturalbackgrounds.As the cultural differences concerned, it cannot be avoided that in thecommunications between two cultures, misunderstanding, which usuallyimpedes a further contact, due to something related to beliefs, values,thoughts, etc., can be seen quite often.E.g., it's been regarded as a significant diversity between Chinese andAmericans on the attitudes towards modesty. For our Chinese, modesty, inwhich greeting, welcome, asking for help, self-introduction, gifting is employed,occupies a considerably large portion in our culture. While, for Americans, onthe contrary, modesty is not a kind of merit to be praised so it's not commonlyused by them. More often,Americans intend to show themselves as much aspossible in an attempt to acquire a higher status.Hence, as a conclusion, the ancient story of Mr. Nanguo, may beexquisitely translated, but cannot be well received.。

Majesty ['mædʒɪstɪ] , our country is so strong. We should have a team

第一!
Good idea. I think we can form a team of a hundred people to play for you.
No.Two hundred at least.
Three hundred! To show how powerful my country is.
Smart king!
)
My name is Nan Guo. I am lazy never work. I will blow recoder for the king. That’s really a good job. I can’t pay recoder at all, but I know how to act.
)
Good morning!
Why do you come?
南郭: To play Y recoder,Look!(递上银子)
OK. OK. You must be very good at it.…
300 people are ready. Please check.
Let them play right now.
)
齐宣王:(大怒)Who makes this noise? He wants to hurt your ears.
Heng! How dare you do that? Kill him!

That’s my best wish for you!
My king.You’re so smart. How dare I cheat you?

(Great!wonderful!)
My king! You want more people to play recorder? I’ll work on it at once.

Me? I …I … I can’t.
What? You can’t blow Yu?
南郭:(吓的坐在地上)I, I, I blow , blow ….

I am wrong. Let me go. Please, please….
)
齐缗王:(面向大家)Will you follow him?
众臣:(拨浪鼓似的摇头)No, no ,no. (跪拜) Smart king! Long lived king!
