So far my favorite has been the rock climbing wall - it's really high but I made it all the way to the top! The ropes course was also really cool, with lots of obstacles, swinging steps, and zip lines through the trees. It was hard but I never felt scared because we had harnesses clipped in.The archery range was interesting too. I wasn't very good at first, but the instructor showed me the proper stance and how to use the bow and arrow and I started hitting the targets better. It's much harder than it looks! I brought home a few of my arrows as a souvenir.We also have swimming every day which is my number one favorite activity. The lake is so refreshing and beautiful here. We play games and races in the water, or we can just swim freely. I've been practicing the breaststroke and getting better every day. We even got to go canoeing and kayaking around the lake which was really peaceful.For the nature activities, we go on hikes through the woods and learn about all the trees, plants, birds and animals that maketheir homes here. We saw salamanders, squirrels, deer, and even a black bear from pretty far away! Our counselors reminded us that bears are normally afraid of humans and won't bother us unless we get too close. We also learned how to fish in the lake, bait our hooks, cast our lines, and remove the fish safely. I haven't caught anything yet but I'm going to keep trying.At night after dinner, they have all kinds of fun games, skits and performances we can optionally participate in. We set up our own tents, cooked foil pack meals over the campfire, and went on a night hike through the forest with our flashlights. We have to take turns on kitchen patrol cleaning up after each meal.I'm making lots of new friends here from all over. My best buddies so far are Michael, Jacob, and Emma. I've been playing a lot of basketball and tetherball during free periods. I even started a big tetherball tournament and made it to the finals before losing to this really tall kid named Marcus. We also get swimming time at the lake every day which is my favorite part - the water feels so refreshing on these hot summer days.In the evenings, we have all kinds of fun stuff happening. Three nights a week, we have a big campfire program with performances, skits, songs, and games. My cabin did this ridiculous lumberjack skit last night that had everyone crackingup. We also went on a night hike and learned about the constellations. And tomorrow we're doing a camp-wide capture the flag game at night using glow sticks and flashlights!On Wednesdays, we get to go on a field trip offsite. Last week, we went to this amazing waterpark that had tons of different waterslides, a wave pool, and a lazy river. This Wednesday, we're going to tour a cave system which I'm really excited about.I've made so many great new friends here too. My three best buddies are Jamie, Elliott, and Rosa.
