【完胜高考】高三一轮复习训练:阅读理解(17)(解析版)AJean-Francois Millet (October 4, 1814—January 20,1875) was a French painter who was famous for his scenes of farmers. After his first painting, a portrait (肖像), was accepted at the Salon of 1840, Millet returned to Cherbourg to begin a career as a portrait painter. However, the following year he married Pauline- Virginie Ono, and they moved to Paris. After being refused at the Salon of 1843 and Pauline’s death, Millet returned again to Cherbourg. In 1845 Millet moved to Le Harvre where he painted portraits for several months, before moving back to Paris. It was in Paris in the middle 1840s that Millet made friends with many famous artists who had great influences on him. Then he gradually revolutionized his painting style and created his own one. This is the most well known of Millet’s paintings, The Gleaners (拾穗者), in which poor women and children are removing the bits of grain left in the fields following the harvest. A warm golden light suggests something holy (神圣的) in this daily scene where the struggle to survive takes place. During his years of studies, Millet thought about how to best tell the sense of repetition and tiredness in the peasants’ daily lives. Lines traced over each woman’s back to the ground and then back up again and again which means their hard labor. Along the horizon (地平线), the setting sun outlines the farm with its plentiful stacks of grain, in contrast to the large shadowy figures in the foreground (前台). The dark dresses of the gleaners cut strong forms against the golden field, giving each woman a noble strength. In 1857, he presented the painting The Gleaners to the Salon to an unfriendly public.36. The passage mainly tells us __________.A. how Millent gained his fame.B. one of Millet’s pa intings, The Gleaners.C. how Millet became a portrait painter.D. Millet’s life experience and The Gleaners.【答案】D【解析】主旨大意题。

【2014】高考英语阅读理解巩固精品题练习(17)及答案
2014高考英语阅读理解巩固精品题练习(17)及答案阅读理解Violin prodigies (神童), I learned, have come in distinct waves from distinct regions. Most of the great performers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries were born and brought up in Russia and Eastern Europe. I asked Isaac Stern, one of the world’s greatest violinists the reason for this phenomenon. “It is very clear,” he told me. “They were all Jews and Jews at the time were severely oppressed and ill-treated in that part of the world. They were not allowed into the professional fields, but they were allowed to achieve excellence on a concert stage.” As a result, every Jewish parent’s dream was to have a child in the music school because it was a passport to the West.Another element in the emergence of prodigies, I found, is a society that values excellence in a certain field to nurture(培育) talent. Nowadays, the most nurturing societies seem to be in the Far East. “In Japan, a most competitive society, with stronger discipline than ours,” says Isaac Stern, children are rea dy to test their limits every day in many fields, including music. When Western music came to Japan after World War II, that music not only became part of their daily lives, but it became a discipline as well. The Koreans and Chinese as we know, are just as highly motivated as the Japanese. That’s a good thing, because even prodigies must work hard. Next to hard work, biological inheritance(遗传)plays an important role in the making of a prodigy. J. S. Bach, for example, was the top of several generations of musicians, and four of his sons had significant careers in music.53. Jewish parents in Eastern Europe longed for their children to attend music school because ________.A. it would allow them access to a better life in the WestB. Jewish children are born with excellent musical talentC. they wanted their children to enter into the professional fieldD. it would enable the family to get better treatment in their own country54. Nurturing societies as mentioned in the passage refer to societies that ________.A. are highly motivated in the education of musicB. treasure talent and provide opportunities for its full developmentC. encourage people to compete with each otherD. promise talented children high positions55. Which of the following contributes to the emergence of musical prodigies accordingto the passage?A. a natural gift.B. extensive knowledge of music.C. very early training.D. a prejudice-free society.56. Which of the following titl es best summarizes the main idea of the passage?A. Jewish Contribution to MusicB. Training of Musicians in the WorldC. Music and SocietyD. The Making of Music Prodigies参考答案53~56 ABADC8[2013·山东卷] CYou can't always predict a heavy rain or remember your umbr ella. But designer Mikhail Belyaev doesn't think that forgetting to check the weather forecast before heading out should result in you getting wet. That's why he created Lampbrella, a lamp post with its own rain-sensing umbrella. The designer says he came up with the idea after watching people get wet on streets in Russia. “Once, I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street and saw the street lamps lighting up people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy(伞篷)built into a street lamp,” he said. The Lampbrella is a standard-looking street lamp fitted with an umbrella canopy. It has a built -in electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand. Sensors(传感器)then ensure that the umbrella offers pedestrians shelter whenever it starts raining. In addition to the rain sensor, there's also a 360°motion sensor on the fiberglass street lamp which detects whether anyone is using the Lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed.According to the designer, the Lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed, so as not tocause harm to the pedestrians. Besides, it would be grounded to protect from possible lightning strike. Each Lampbrella would offer enough shelter for several people. Being installed(安装) at 2 meters off the ground, it would only be a danger for the tallest of pedestrians. While there are no plans to take the Lampbrella into production, Belyaev says he recently introduced his creation to one Moscow Department, and insists his creation could be installed on any street where a lot of people walk but there are no canopies to provide shelter.66. For what purpose did Belyaev create the Lampbrella?A. To predict a heavy rain.B. To check the weather forecast.C. To protect people from the rain.D. To remind people to take an umbrella.67.What do we know from Belyaev's words in Paragraph 2?A. His creation was inspired by an experience.B. It rains a lot in the city of Saint Petersburg.C. Street lamps are protected by canopies.D. He enjoyed ta king walks in the rain.68.Which of the following shows how the Lampbrella works?A. motor→canopy→sensorsB. sensors→motor→canopyC. motor→sensors→canopyD. canopy→motor→sensors69.What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us about the Lampbrella?A. Its moving spe ed.B. Its appearance.C. Its installation.D. Its safety.70.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?A. The designer will open a company to promote his product.B. The Lampbrella could be put into immediate production.C. The designer is confident that his creation is practical.D. The Lampbrella would be put on show in Moscow.【要点综述】这是一篇说明文。
【2014】高考英语阅读理解巩固精品题练习(48)及答案
2014高考英语阅读理解巩固练习精品题(48)及答案【吉林市普通中学2012—2013高三(下)质量检测】C Children have their own rules in playing games. They seldom need a referee (裁判) and rarely trouble to keep scores. They don’t care much about who wins or loses, and it doesn’t seem to worry them if the game is not finished. Yet, they like games that depend a lot on luck, so that their personal abilities cannot be directly compare. They also enjoyed games that move in stages, in which each stage, the ch oosing of leaders, the picking-up of sides, or the determining of which side shall start, is almost a game in itself.Grown-ups can hardly find children’s game exciting, and they often feel puzzled at why their kids play such simple game again and again. However, it is found that a child plays games for very important reasons. He can be a good player without having to think whether he is a popular person, and he can find himself being a useful partner to someone of whom he is ordinary afraid. He becomes a leader when it comes to his turn. He can be confident, too, in particular games, that it is his place to give orders, to pretend to be dead, to throw a ball actually at someone, or to kiss someone he has caught. It appears to us that when children play a game they imagine a situation under their control. Everyone knows the rules, and more importantly, everyone plays according to the rules. Those rules may be childish, but they make sure that every child has a chance to win.62.What is true about children when they play games?A. They can stop playing any time they like.B. They can test their personal abilities.C. They want to pick a better team.D. They don’t need rules.63.To become a leader in a game the child has to _________.A. be a useful partnerB. wait for his turnC. be confident in himselfD. be popular among his playmates64.Why does a child like playing games?A. Because he can be someone other than himself.B. Because he can become popular among friends.C. Because he finds he is always lucky in games.D. Because he likes the place where he plays a game.65.Which is the best title for this passage?A. Rules in Ch ildren’s GamesB. Advantages of Playing Games for ChildrenC. Reasons for Children’s GamesD. How to Be a Popular Game Player62.A. 细节理解题。

AMemory is an incredibly important part of our lives, allowing us to store and retrieve information about the world around us. Unfortunately, many of us experience memory difficulties in our daily lives. Luckily, there are several techniques that can help improve memory. Here are a few:- Use Mnemonic Devices: Mnemonic devices are memory tools that help us remember certain pieces of information. For example, you might use the acronym HOMES to remember the names of the Great Lakes (Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior). Another example is the phrase “My very eager mother just served us nine pizzas” to remember the order of the planets in our solar system (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto).-Repetition: Repetition is the act of repeating a piece of information. This technique is particularly useful for remembering short-term information. If you need to remember a phone number or a name, repeating it several times to yourself can help you commit it to memory. - Visualization: Visualization is the process of creating mental images to assist with memory. For example, if you need to remember a grocery list, you might create mental images of the items on the list. You could picture an apple in your mind, then a carton of eggs, then a loaf of bread, and so on.-Organization: Organizing information can also help improve memory. This might mean grouping similar items together, as in creating categories for different types of information. For example, if you are trying to remember a list of vocabulary words, you might group them together by similar meanings.- Sleep: Getting enough sleep is important for memory consolidation, the process of transferring short-term memories to long-term storage. Without sufficient consolidation, memories may be lost over time.-Exercise: Exercise has been shown to improve memory and cognitive function. A study conducted by the University of British Columbia found that regular aerobic exercise increases the size of the hippocampus, a brain region associated with memory.By using these techniques, you can improve your memory and ensure that important information is not forgotten.1. What is the main topic of the passage?A. The importance of sleepB. The benefits of exerciseC. Strategies to improve memoryD. The functions of the hippocampus2. What are Mnemonic Devices?A. Tools used to improve memoryB. Acronyms used to remember people's namesC. Devices used to measure memory retentionD. A type of visual aid3. What is the purpose of repetition?A. AOne Sunday a few of us decided to take advantage of the first sunny day we’d have for ages to take a trip down to the coast to visit the penguins again. Last time I went down there was a couple of months ago and it was a dull cold day. Sunday couldn’t have been more different — clear skies and sunshine made it feel like summer, although it was still -25°C.Six of us drove to the coast. It was t he first time we’d been off the base on our own without our field assistant, so it had a slightly different feeling — more like a few friends going to the seaside than an Antarctic field trip! When we reached Windy Creek, we luckily caught sight of quite a few small flying seabirds, which are seldom seen there.Once on the sea ice we found that some of the more curious penguins had wandered over from the main group to come and check us out. We’d been told that then they were nursing their chicks (刚孵出的幼雏) and they would be more careful and nervous than last time, but that didn’t seem to be the case. We walked across to the main group which were stretched for a couple of miles along the coast. We sat down for some sandwiches and soon found ourselves surrounded by many curious observers. We see ourselves on a long trip that goes across the continent. We are traveling by train. Out the windows, we think in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing , of cattle feeding on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, or row upon row of corn and wheat, of flat lands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hills, of city skylines and village halls. But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there, so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, condemning(谴责)the minutes for loitering(虚度)— waiting, waiting, waiting for the station."When we reach the station, that will be it!”we cry. "When I’m 38." "When I buy a new 450SL Mercdes Benz!""When I put the last kid through college.""When I have paid off the debt!" "When I get a promotion.""When I reach the age of rement, I shall live happily ever after!"Sooner or later, we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all.The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us."Relish(appreciate) the moment" is a good motto, actually it isn’t the burdens of today that drive man mad. It is the regret over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today. So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more icecream, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more and cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. Then the station will come soon enough.8. Why does the author write the passage?A. To teach us a good lesson.B. To tell us the right attitude to life.C. To advise us to forget our worries.D. To stop us wandering along the aisles.DDoctors’ moonlighting is becoming popular in hospitals around China. It h as not only raised a lot of heated discussions in the media, but also caught the attention of the central government in Beijing. On December 26, a spokesman of the Ministry of Health stressed that the ministry was firmly against doctors’ moonlighting, wh ile strict regulations should be applied to doctors takingpart-time jobs, the Xinhua News Agency reported.Last year, the Ministry sent out a notice to a variety of health organizations to speed up the reform of their personnel (人事)system. According to the notice, medical organizations can hire medical experts as part-time doctors but such activities should take place under the hospital’s management and regulations(规定).As for moonlighting--meaning that the doctor provides medical service without the permission of the original hospital--such activity goes against China’s Practicing Doctor Law, Xinhua reported. In China, doctors used to be controlled by hospitals and they could work for only one hospital. However, as China’s medical personnel system reform developed, it has been recognized that medical human resources, just like human resources in other areas, should be shared by the whole society. But on the other hand, doctors’ taking part-time jobs should follow the relative regulations applied in the medical field.First of all, they should follow relative government laws and regulations. They should also follow the rules and regulations set by the medical organizations they work for. In addition, they should pay taxes for their income from the part-time jobs. What matters most is that they should first finish their regular jobs as required and be responsible for patients to ensure qualified and safe medical treatment.12. The movie is set in a small town where the only movie theater is preparing to close down.Bradford said that large modern theaters in the city made it impossible for the Plaza to compete.Headded that the theater’s location(位置)was also a reason.“This used to be the center of town,”he said.“Now the area is mostly office buildings and warehouses.”Last week some city officials suggested the city might be interested in turning the old theater into a museum and public meeting place. However, these plans were abandoned because of financial problems. Bradford sold the building and land to a local development firm, which plans to build a shopping complex on the land where the theater is located. The theater audience said good-bye as Bradford locked the doors for the last time.After75years the Plaza Theater has shown its last movie. The theater will be missed.24.In what way was yesterday’s cleanup at the Plaza special?A.It made room for new equipment.B.It signaled the closedown of the theater.C.It was done with the help of the audience.D.It marked the75th anniversary of the theater.25.Why was The Last Picture Show put on?A.It was an all-time classic.B.It was about the history of the town.C.The audience requested it.D.The theater owner found it suitable.26.What will probably happen to the building?A.It will be repaired.B.It will be turned into a museum.C.It will be knocked down.D.It will be sold to the city government.27.What can we infer about the audience?A.They are disappointed with Bradford.B.They are sad to part with the old theater.C.They are supportive of the city officials.D.They are eager to have a shopping center.CAfter years of heated debate, gray wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park.Fourteen wolves were caught in Canada and transported to the park.By last year, the Yellowstone wolf population had grown to more than170wolves.Gray wolves once were seen here and there in the Yellowstone area and much of the continental United States, but they were gradually displaced by human development.By the1920s,wolves had practically disappeared from the Yellowstone area. They went farther north into the deep forests of Canada, where there were fewer humans around. The disappearance of the wolves had many unexpected results.Deer and elk populations—major food sources(来源)forthe wolf—grew rapidly. These animals consumed large amounts of vegetation (植被),which reduced plant diversity in the park.In the absence of wolves, coyote populations also grew quickly. The coyotes killed a large percentage of the park’s red foxes, and completely drove away the park’s beavers. As early as1966,biologists asked the government to consider reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park. They hoped that wolves would be able to control the elk and coyote problems. Many farmers opposed the plan because they feared that wolves would kill their farm animals or pets. The government spent nearly30years coming up with a plan to reintroduce the wolvers. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service carefully monitors and manages the wolf packs in Yellowstone.Today, the debate continues over how well the gray wolf is fitting in at Yellowstone.Elk,deer, and coyote populations are down, while beavers and red fores have made a comeback. The Yellowstone wolf project has been a valuable experiment to help biologists decide whether to reintroduce wolves to other parts of the country as well.28.What is the text mainly about?A.Wildlife research in the United States.B.Plant diversity in the Yellowstone area.C.The conflict between farmers and gray wolves.D.The reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone Park.29.What does the underlined word“displaced”in paragraph2mean?A.Tested.B.Separated.C.Forced out.D.Tracked mobile laboratory named“Drive LAB”in order to understand the challenges faced by older drivers and to discover where the key stress points are.Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a fall in health and well-being among older people, leading to them becoming more isolated(隔绝)and inactive.Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team are developing in-vehicle technologies for older drivers which they hope could help them to continue driving into later life. These include custom-made navigation(导航)tools, night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations.Phil Blythe explains:“For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country, driving is important for preserving their independence, giving them the freedom to get out and about without having to rely on others.”“But we all have to accept that as we get older our reactionsslow down and this often results in people avoiding any potentially challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.”Dr Amy Guo,the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains,“The Drive LAB is help ing us to understand what the key points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technology to address these problems.“For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly,we found that in30mph zones they struggled to keep at a constant speed and so were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of getting fined. We’re looking at the benefits of systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that.“We hope that our wor k will help with technological solutions(解决方案)to ensure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.”32.What is the purpose of the Drive LAB?A.To explore newmeans of transport.B.To design new types of cars.C.To find out older driver’s problems.D.To teach people traffic 高考英语 阅读理解 暑假练习题(17)
高考英语阅读理解暑假练习题(17)ARecently more students are choosing to study abroad as they think it is worthwhile. However, some people think it is not a good idea. There are a number of disadvantages in studying abroad. The following paragraphs will explain why students have these views and the advantages of studying abroad will be discussed.Students studying abroad may suffer from racial discrimination(歧视). As they left their home country, they will become part of a minority group in the new country. The majority group may have a sense of superiority and try to bully them. It is common that Americans or the British discriminate against people from other countries since many of them think that white people are better than others. In addition, the students may lo se their own cultures. Since they have moved to a new place, all the thing there –people, lifestyle and the living environment---would be different from those in their own country. As they will have close contact with the local people and culture, they will be influenced by the new culture even without realizing it. It is ironic that a Chinese person speaks better English than Chinese and forgets about Chinese culture after studying abroad for a few years. On the other hand, studying abroad will widen the view of students. Although they may give up their own culture, they can really learn from others. As students of the modern world , they should not limit their scope to their home country, but get exposed to the world. Studying abroad can help them expand their horizon and learn many things in the host country, as they will meet and make friends with people from all over the world. So, studying abroad is good for them.Furthermore, students will learn how to be mature and independent. Students, when in their home country, usually rely on their parents. Statistics show that Chinese students usually rely heavily on their parents; they will leave problems alone and ask their parents to solve them. If they are studying abroad, on many occasions they have to learn how to cope with difficulties they meet. As a result, studying abroad benefits them. Moreover, the education system of the foreign country may be better than the home country’s education system. The home country’s education system is very lim ited. Many teachers just spoon-feed their students. They will ask the students to recite a lot of things and then ask them to write them down. This choice of subjects in school, especially in secondary school, is very narrow; the students cannot choose what they want most. But in some schools in Britain and America, students can choose from a wider range of subjects at school. For example, media studies and corporate communications are courses of study in some schools of those two countries. If students choose to study abroad, they may have the opportunity to learn more things under a better education system. All in all, studying abroad will change and influence a student in many aspects. Although it is uncertain if the effects will be positive or negative, I believe students should seize the opportunity to study abroad because they will meet manynew things and have new experiences in the new country. If they are clever enough, I think they can find a balance between learning about the new culture and holding onto their own one.56. Students studying abroad _____.A. will be respected by the locals.B. will forget their ancestors.C. may be treated unfair.D. may have difficulty overcoming homesickness.57. What can we learn from Paragraph 3?A. The language environment will shorten the time of learning a language.B. Students studying abroad may be influenced by the new culture unknowingly.C. Studying abroad is much more comfortable than studying in your own country.D. A Chinese studying abroad only needs a few years to speak excellent English.58. Why can studying abroad widen the view of students?A. Because they may give up their own culture.B. Because they have to solve everything on their own.C. Because they can recite a lot of things and write them down.D. Because they can meet and make friends with people from around the world.59. From the last paragraph, we can know that the writer _______.A. agrees that students should take the opportunity to study abroad.B. thinks that the effects of studying abroad will be positive and helpful.C. has been to a foreign country to see new things and have new experience.D. has found a balance between learning about a new culture and holding onto his own.60. Which of the following can best serve as a title for this passage?A. Should students study abroad and work there?B. Should students leave their own country and study abroad?C. Like so many ideas w hich have surprising effects, his was a simple one.He watched workers practicing their craft(工艺) of pi11 making. One man would heat the strip of metal, stretch it out, cut off a suitable length, shape it, cool it and finally smooth and shine it.Smith drew attention to the advantages which could be gained if these various tasks were performed by different workers.Let one be responsible for preparing the metal.Another for stretching and cutting.Another for shaping.Another for finishing. He described the technique as the Division of Labor; in this way workers repeat the same actions again and again.Smith made the world believe that specialization could solve the problem of poverty and want. What was the result? The Industrial Revolution.Productivity was greatly increased. For Britain, where the revolution started, there was a prosperity which made it the richest country in the nineteenth century.British trains and railway lines spread out like a spider’s web across the world. I was enjoying my cake, when Heather asked me where my sleeping bag was. Only then did I know this party was a sleepover. The word “sleep-over” to a six-year-old bed-wetter is like what “cancer” means to an adult. But what if I told them I was a bed-wetter? At least with cancer, people gather at your bedside instead of running from it.I thought of a way to escape. I would explain that I needed my mother's permission to spend the nights. But as I called my Mom, Heather stood beside me to listen. She granted permission! Then I would be sleeping in the same living room as the other girls. I didn't bring my own pajamas (睡衣),so Mrs. Peters offered me Heather's pajamas. As the other girls drifted into their sweet dreams, I tried to stay awake. “Do I need to go again? He may say he doesn't care, and even act in ways that are opposite of cool on purpose. But ultimately, these are simply ways to handle sadness by pretending it's not there.Helping a child feel better in school had to be careful. If you say, "Why are you worried about what other children think about you? It doesn't matter!" children know that it does matter. Instead, an active way may be best. You could say, "I'm going to do a couple of things for you to help you feel better in school."If a boy is having trouble making friends, the teacher can help him. The teacher can arrange things so that he has chances to use his abilities to contribute to class projects. This is how the other children learn how to value his good qualities and to like him. A teacher can also raise a child's popularity in the group by showing that he values that child. It even helps to put him in a seat next to a very popular child, or let him be a partner with that child in activities, etc. There are things that parents can do at home, too. Be friendly when your child brings others home to play. Encourage him to invite friends to meals and then serve the dishes they consider "super". When you plan trips, picnics, movies, and other shows, invite another child with whom your child wants to be friends. What you can do is to give him a chance to join a group that may be shutting him out. While Sara felt Betty didn't hold up her end of the conversation, Betty complained to Steve that Sara never gave her a chance to talk. The problem had to do with expectations about pacing and pausing.Conversation is a turn-taking game. When our habits are similar, there's no problem. But if our habits are different, you may start to talk before I'm finished or fail to take your turn when I'm finished. That's what was happening with Betty and Sara.It may not be coincidental that Betty, who expected relatively longer pauses between turns, is British, and Sara, who expected relatively shorter pauses, is American. Betty often felt interrupted by Sara. But Betty herself became an interrupter and found herself doing most of the talking when she met a visitor from Finland. And Sara had a hard time cutting in on some speakers from Latin America or Israel. The general phenomenon, then, is that the small conversationtechniques, like pacing and pausing, lead people to draw conclusions not about conversational style but about personality and abilities. These habitual differences are often the basis for dangerous stereotyping. And these social phenomena can have very personal consequences. For example, a woman from the southwestern part of the US went to live in an eastern city to take up a job in personnel. When the Personnel Department got together for meetings, she kept searching for the right time to break in--and never found it. Although back home she was considered outgoing and confident, in Washington she was viewed as shy and retiring. When she was evaluated at the end of the year, she was told to take a training course because of her inability to speak up.That's why slight differences in conversational style--tiny little things like microseconds of pause-can have a great effect on one's life. The result in this case was a judgment of psychological problems---even in the mind of the woman herself, who really wondered what was wrong with her and registered for assertiveness training.45. What did Sara think of Betty when talking with her?A. Betty was talkative.B. Betty was an interrupter.C. Betty did not take her turn.D. Betty paid no attention to Sara.46. According to the passage, who are likely to expect the shortest pauses between turns?A. Americans.B. The British.C. Israelis.D. The Finns.47. We can learn from the passage that ___________.A. one should receive training to build up one's confidenceB. one's inability to speak up is culturally determined sometimesC. women are unfavorably stereotyped in eastern cities of the USD. communication breakdown results from short pauses and fast pacing48. The underlined word "assertiveness" in the last paragraph probably means __A. being willing to speak one's mindB. being able to increase one's powerC. being ready to make one's own judgmentD. being quick to express one's ideas confidently参考答案 CCBD阅读理解Runners in a relay race pass a stick in one direction. However, merchants passed silk, gold, fruit, and glass along the Silk Road in more than one direction. They earned their living by traveling the famous Silk Road. The Silk Road was not a simple trading network. It passed through thousands of cities and towns. It started from eastern China, acrossCentral Asia and the Middle East, and ended in the Mediterranean Sea. It was used from about 200 B C to about 1300 A D., when sea travel offered new routes. It was s ometimes called the world’s longest highway. However, the Silk Road was made up of many routes, not one smooth path. They passed through what are now 18 countries. The routes crossed mountains and deserts and had many dangers of hot sun, deep snow and even battles. Only experienced traders could return safe. The Silk Road got its name from its most prized product. Silk could be used like money to pay taxes or buy goods. But the traders carried more than just silk. Gold, silver, and glass from Europe were much found in the Middle East and Asia. Horses traded from other areas changed farming practices in China. Indian merchants traded salt and other valuable goods. Chinese merchants traded paper, which produced an immediate effect on the West. Apples traveled from central Asia to Rome. The Chinese had learned to graft (嫁接) different trees together to make new kinds of fruit. They passed this science on to others, including the Romans. The Romans used grafting to grow the apple. Trading along the Silk Road led to world-wide business 2,000 years before the World Wide Web.The people along the Silk Road did not share just goods. They also shared their beliefs. The Silk Road provided pathways for learning, diplomacy, and religion.49. It all translates to a great change in the way we work. Already we’re partly there, the- 1 -percentage of people who earn their living by making things has fallen sharply in the Western World. Today the majority of jobs in America, Europeand Japan (two thirds or more are in many of these countries) are in theservice industry, and the number is on the rise. More women are in the workforce than ever before. There are more part-time jobs. More people are self-employed. But the breath of the great change can’t be measured by numbersalone, because it also is giving rise to new way of thinking about the natureof work itself. Long-held opinions about jobs and careers, the skills neededto succeed, even the relation between workers and employers-all these arebeing doubted. We have only to look behind us to get some sense of what may lie ahead. No one looking ahead 20 years possibly could have seen the ways in which a single invention, the chip(芯片), would change our world thanks to its uses in personal computers, and factory equipment. Tomorrow’s achievements in biotechnology or even some still unimagined technology could produce a similar wave of great changes. But one thing is certain: information and knowledgewill become even more important, and the people who own it, whether they workin factories or services, will have the advantage and produce the wealth. Computer knowledge will become as basic a requirement as the ability to read and write. The ability to deal with problems by making use of information instead of performing regular tasks will be valued above all else. If you look ahead 10 years, information service will be leading the way. It will be theway you do your job.61.Information age means _____________. A.the service industry is depending more and more on women workers B.heavy industries are rapidly increasing C.people find it harder and harder to earn a living by working in factories D.most of the job chances can now be found in the service industry. 62.Knowledge society brings about a great change that __________. A.the difference between the workers and employers has become smaller B.people’s old ideas about work no longer exist C.most people have to take part-timejobs D.people have to change their jobs from time to time 63.What doesthe author mean by referring to computers and other inventions? A.People should be able to act quickly to the advancement of technology. B.Future achievements in technology will bring about big changes. C.The importance of high technology has been paid no attention to. D.Computer science will playa leading role in the future information services. 64.The future willprobably belong to those who _________. A.own and know how to make use of information B.can read and write well C.devote themselves to service industries D.look ahead instead of looking back(C)One of the United States’ social problems is the breakdown of the two-parent family. Today, millions of American children grow up without fathers. Too often, these children lack the love and help they badly need and whichthey would ordinarily receive from not one but two parents. In the old days, American parents placed the needs of their children above their own. At present, however, nearly one half of all new marriages end in divorce(离婚), with often troubling results for their children. Worse, every year, thousands of teenage, unmarried Americans become mothers outside marriage, with generally terrible results for the mothers and children alike and for American society more generally. However, Chinese continue to value whole marriages. This is not to say that Chinese marriages are all perfect-they certainly are not, judging from increasing rates of divorce and extramarital affairs-but the willingness of Chinese to set aside their own needs and stay together for the sake of the children is admirable and worthy of study. Families, in whatever form they may take, are important to Americans. If one was to ask a group of Americans what is dearest to them, the majority wouldsay“family”.And yet, so many Americans spend- 2 -much more time at work-that is, beyond the formal forty-hour work week-than they do with their own families. Obviously, the USA is one of the most powerful in the world, owing in large measure to“workaholism”(工作狂).It seems to me that Chinese generally find a better balance between work and family needs than many Americans do. I don’t see the number of workaholics in China that I do in the United States(or American organizations inChina).Instead, average Chinese usually head home right after work(in the office or field),have meals together, and spend time with their family members. What’s more, Chinese try to make more time for grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins than many Americans; in many cases, multigenerational families live together. Of course, like many facts of Chinese society, this is all changing; increasing numbers of“New Chinese”are working longer hours and spending less time with their families than ever before. Still, while Americans do value their loved ones. I think we have something to learn from the Chinese about finding the proper balance between work and family. 65.The main point of the passage is . A.family plays a very important role in America.B.there is something about family for Americans to learn from China.C.a proper balance between work and family needs to be found for Chinese D.the Chinese have a proper balance between work and play66.According to the passage, the American family value in the past isthat . A.Americans love their families more than their jobs.B.Americans often set aside their children’s needs C.Americans have a strong work desireD.American parents place the needs of their children above their own67.It can be concluded from the passage that . A.in the author’s eye s, the breakdown of the two-parent family in China will be more serious than that in the U. S. in the future.B.today young Americans should reduce their material comforts in the interests of their children’sfutureC.Chinese marriage is said to be all perfectD.at present, nearly one half of all new marriages end in divorce inChina 68.What does the author think according to the passage? A.Children living in one-parent families badly need their parents’ love and helpB.Children with one-parent need their parents’ money badly.C.Chinese value whole marriage more than before. D.Work isdearest to most Chinese.(D)In many ways, the earliest periods of photography are the most satisfying. Learning to use the controls is easy and comes quickly, and you can measurethe results in terms of sharp and correctly developed pictures. Once you have mastered that, you can start on the second step of your photographic work. Using these basic skills in a wide variety of situations to give the pictures you want, noticing what you see through the viewfinder and turning that intothe most effective picture becomes totally interesting. All good photographs have one thing in common; there is no doubt what the subject of the picture is meant to be. Every photographer must use those same standards to his or her work, not only to the finished results but to the subject before he or she takes it. Always work out quite clearly what the subject of the picture is to be and why you are taking the picture. For example,“I am going to take a picture of this street to show the differentstyles and ages of the buildings and that people have been living, working and shopping in them since time began.”By doing this you have a better idea of what to include in the picture and what to leave out. How often have you been shown photographs taken by people away on a trip somewhere? The judgment is always similar, something about“the car park is out of the picture to the left”, or“you can’t quite see from thi s picture but if you go up the street”. The- 3 -photographs are usually collections of buildings, people, parked cars, possibly a distant look of an ancient church, and best of all, a figure which you are told is Aunt Henrietta, disappearing in the middle distance. When photographers show you their pictures, they have a clear idea of what they want to bring to your attention, but it often does not appear in the picture. If they had given just a little of their time to think about their future judgment before taking the picture, then the picture would relate its own story. Good pictures can show their subjects quickly and easily.69.What does the author mean by saying“in many ways, the earliest periods of photography are themost satisfying”? A.The skills of photography are not as satisfactory nowadays as beforeB.The earliest pictures were the best pictures people have ever taken C.The present-day photography depends more on technology than on artD.Learning to produce a sharp and correctly developed picture is only the first step in photographyand is easily learned.70.What will it bring you if you decide the purpose of the photograph in advance? A.Allows you to leave out unnecessary material B.Allows you to stand in the best placeC.Helps you to vary the subjects of your pictures D.Means you waste less time. 71.Many photographers fail because . A.their pictures include the buildings and people B.the details are not clear in their pictures C.the subjects of their pictures are not obviousD.the explanation given for their pictures is mistaken 72.What book is this passage most likely taken from? A.A book on photography for news reporters B.A book on how to photograph peopleC.A book on choosing the right camera. D.A book on improving photographic techniques.ERead the following two advertisements and answer the questions below:- 4 -73.What is the best time for drivers to get gas filled? A.Monday. B.Tuesday. 高中英语真题:2014高考英语阅读理解精品训练(17)及解析C5 [2013·广东卷] COne day, when I was working as a psychologist in England,an adolescent boy showed up in my office. It was David. He ke pt walking up and down restlessly, his face pale, and his hands shaking slightly. His head teacher had referred him to me. “This boy has lost his family,” he wrote. “He is understandably very sad and refuses to talk to others, and I'm very worried about hi m. Can you help?”I looked at David and showed him to a chair. How could I help him? There are problems psychology doesn't have the answer t o, and which no words can describe. Sometimes the best thing one can do is to listen openly and sympathetically. The first two times we met, David didn't say a word. He sat ther e, only looking up to look at the children's drawings on the wall behind me. I suggested we play a game of chess. He nodded. After that he played chess with me every Wednesday afternoon —in complete silence and without looking at me. It's not easy to c heat in chess, but I admit I made sure David won once or twice.Usually, he arrived earlier than agreed, took the chess board a nd pieces from the shelf and began setting them up before I ev en got a chance to sit down. It seemed as if he enjoyed my com pany. But why did he never look at me?“Perhaps he simply needs someone to share his pain with,” I thought. “Perhaps he senses that I respect his suffering.”Some months later, when we were playing chess, he looked up at me suddenly.“It's your turn,” he said. After that day, David started talking. He got friends in school an d joined a bicycle club. He wrote to me a few times, about his bi king with some friends, and about his plan to get into university. Now he had really started to live his own life.Maybe I gave David something. But I also learned that one—without any words—can reach out to another person. All it takes is a hug, a shoulde r to cry on, a friendly touch, and an ear that listens.36.When he first met the author, David ________.A. felt a little excitedB. walked energeticallyC. looked a little nervousD. showed up with his teacher37.As a psychologist, the author ________.A. was ready to listen to DavidB. was skeptical about psychologyC. was able to describe David's problemD. was sure of handling David's problem38.David enjoyed being with the author because he________.A.wanted to ask the author for adviceB.needed to share sorrow with the authorC.liked the children's drawings in the officeD.beat the author many times in the chess game 39.What can be inferred about David?A.He recovered after months of treatment.B.He liked biking before he lost his family.C.He went into university soon after starting to talk.D.He got friends in school before he met the author. 40.What made David change?A.His teacher's help.B.The author's friendship.C.His exchange of letters with the author.D.The author's silent communication with him.【要点综述】对于一个自闭的孩子,心理医生最好的疗法或许就是默默地和他一块感受他的痛苦……36.C 细节理解题。

Next to hard work, biological inheritance(遗传) plays an important role in the making of a prodigy. J. S. Bach, for example, was the top of several generations of musicians, and four of his sons had significant careers in music.53. Jewish parents in Eastern Europe longed for their children to attend music schoolbecause ________.A. it would allow them access to a better life in the WestB. Which of the following titles best summarizes the main idea of the passage?A. Jewish Contribution to MusicB. Training of Musicians in the WorldC. Music and SocietyD. The Making of Music Prodigies参考答案53~56 ABADC8[2013·山东卷] CYou can't always predict a heavy rain or remember your umbrella. It has a built-in electric motor which can open or close the umbrella on demand. Sensors(传感器)then ensure that the umbrella offers pedestrians shelter whenever it starts raining. In addition to the rain sensor, there's also a 360° motion sensor on thefiberglass street lamp which detects whether anyone is using the Lampbrella. After three minutes of not being used the canopy is closed.According to the designer, the Lampbrella would move at a relatively low speed, so as not to cause harm to the pedestrians. He enjoyed taking walks in the rain.68.Which of the following shows how the Lampbrella works?A. motor→canopy→sensorsB. sensors→motor→canopyC. motor→sensors→canopyD. canopy→motor→sensors69.What does Paragraph 5 mainly tell us about the Lampbrella?A. Its moving speed.B.
