因此,科技文本的翻译也必须按照一定的原则进行,一要准确,就是理解和表达科技内容、科技术语、语言形式、逻辑关系、符号公式、图表数字等要准确无误,要忠实于原文;二要简洁,就是用词、造句、行文要简洁明了,精炼通顺;三要规范,就是语言、文字、术语、简称、符号、公式、语体、计量单位等都要规范统一,符合国家和国际标准。

这三条翻译标准是密切联系的,在翻译实践中应同时兼顾,根据具体情况灵活运用。

必须要把握好原语文本的语篇风格才能保证科技文本翻译之后的客观性和真实性。

寒暄型(phatic)文本
寒暄型(phatic)文本强调语言的寒暄功能。寒 暄的语言是为了与受众保持良好关系,而不是传递 新的信息。在口语中常见的有“How are you?” “Have a good day”等,它们都体现了作者想与 受众建立一定交流关系的意图。不同的名族、语 言,有不同的寒喧套话(phaticism)。
传统上我们一般以题材区别文本,如文学类、科技 类等。但纽马克感到这种区分对语言本质的揭示 不够深刻。他另辟蹊径,从新的角度看文本,借用 了几个己经存在的模式,略加改造,为他所用。
他的切入点是语言的功能,在修正布勒、雅各布逊 的功能模式的基础上,纽马克提出了一套自己的文 本功能及其分类理论。
纽马克根据语言功能来划分语篇(文本)类型。 最初,在《翻译探索》中纽马克就把语言功能分 为3种: 表情功能(expressive function),信 息功能(informative function)和感染功能 (vocative function) (Newmark, 1981:1213)

步骤可分为以下两步:(一)准确理解英文原文首先说第一个步骤,如何准确理解英文原文——这一点说白了就是考验阅读理解能力。

如果说在阅读中遇到不认识的单词或词组,尚且能够通过查阅字典的方式解决的话,那么英语中繁复多样的句式往往就不是一本字典可以打发的了。

尤其在阅读科学性较强的英语作品时,作者行云流水般的笔触通常都是借助丰富多变的句型来表现的。

这些英语作品与我们日常教科书本中选取的文章相比,往往来得更为艰深难懂。

这就需要我们运用自己的科技知识来理解原作的思想内容。

因此,英语水平和科技知识的修养,都是必不可少的,是从事科技英语翻译的重要基本功。

在这个基础上,通过广泛阅读科技文献,不断学习和研究,才能逐渐累计翻译知识和技巧。

(二)使行文变得“地道”第二步是用地道的中文表达原文的含义。

这对中文功底是一个十足的考验。

这里的“地道”指的是,译文不会让人感觉到有英语原文的痕迹,就好像它原来就是一篇中文作品一样。

很多时候,对原文的理解没有问题,但是要将这粗糙、原始、零碎的理解升华为通顺、精致、具整体性的另一种语言,并用符合该语言习惯用法的表达转述出来,往往就不是那么容易了。

尤其当原文是以精确简约著称的英语,而目标语言是惯于华美繁复的汉语时,我们往往就得花费更多的工夫去打磨译文,才能弥合两种语言之间的沟壑。

根据我的体会我觉得,有以下几点十分重要:一、常用句型例:It is+adjective+that…./to do ...It is + past participle + that .….这种句型在我翻译的文章中就有14处之多,它通常与前句有密切联系,需要上下文一起分析翻译,由于语言习惯的差异,此处“It is”所指代的前文内容,往往要出现在后面的翻译句子中。

并且,这种句式的运用,本身就起到了强调的作用,这一点在我们的翻译成果中也要有所体现。

关键词:科技翻译;文本类型和特点;翻译策略1引言随着科学技术的发展,科技翻译也逐步发展成为翻译的一个分支。

说到科技文本,首先应该理解科技英语,科技英语是科技工作者从事科学技术研究和学术交流所使用的英语,特点是用词准确、语言简练、表达客观、条理清晰、内容确切,并具有很强的专业性和实用性(2008,张玲)。

根据纽马克的文本类型理论,科技文本属于信息型文本,在翻译的时候也要采取忠实、通顺的原则进行翻译。

科技英语的特点可以从词汇、句法和语篇方面来看。

2词汇层面首先,科技文本词汇包括一些技术词和非技术层面的词汇,后者包括一词多义词汇,派生词和缩略词。

翻译时,需根据科技翻译的理论和原则,在准确传达信息的基础上,实现词汇的精准翻译。

例1:ST:Conventional internal combustion engines for automobiles and other purposes require an oil-based fuel source that,once con⁃sumed,does not renew.TT:常规汽车及其他用途内燃机需要燃烧石油产生动力,石油燃烧后无法再生。

在例1中,internal combustion engines为技术词,可运用直译法译为内燃机,直截了当,准确无误;其次,consume本意为消耗,consume的宾语为oil-based fuel source,所以根据前半句出现的内燃机可将其意译为燃烧,使译文更加符合实际情况。

3句法层面从句法层面来看,科技文本多采用名词化结构,被动语态,非谓语动词形式和长句复合句,例2:ST:Attempts to address this issue generally lead to the devel⁃opment of engines that do not consume oil-based fuel,such as those that use ethanol or bio-diesel.TT:解决这一问题的努力通常会促进研发出不以石油为燃料的引擎。

一、文本概说




科技文本分为专门科技文本与通俗科技文本,专门科技文 本包括专著、论文集科学报告等,而通俗科技文本则主要 指一些普及型的科技读物。 按其具体体现的形式,又可细分为:科技著述、科技论文、 科技报告、实验报告和方案;各类科技情报和文字资料; 科技使用手册,包括对仪器、机械、工具等地描述和操作 规程;有关科技文体的会谈、会议、交谈;相关的音频、 视频资料。 科技英语(EST)泛指一切论及或谈及科技的书面语和口 头语。 科技英语是伴随专业英语(ESP)的出现而萌生的,并已 发展为一种重要的英语语体。

英语科技文章在词汇方面的另一特征是使用大量 派生词,包括动词和形容词的名词化,即在动词 后加词缀-ation、-ment、-ence、-al、-sion等构成 名词,在形容词尾加-ability、-ty等构成名词。派 生名词的使用可以有效简化叙事层次和结构,减 少从句的使用频率,从而使科技英语的行文更加 直接、精炼。汉语以动词占优势,可以以动词连 用表达动作概念,英语以名词占优势,尤其是科 技文章,因此在翻译中不管是英译汉还是汉译英 都应注意顺应译入语特点。

二、语言特点



作为一种独立的文体形式,科技英语有其自身的特点,如 叙述客观、严谨周密、概念准确、逻辑性强、行文精炼、 句式严整等,不强调语言表达的艺术美。 1.词汇特点(lexical features) 专业术语的大量使用,排斥多义性,即一个术语在某个学 科中一般只能具有唯一意义。(多义势必造成歧义,从而 引起概念混乱,论点模糊) 有时,同一词语在不同学科中甚至是概念截然不同的术语, 如seed在植物学中意为“种子”,而在体育科学中则为 “种子选手”;transmission在无线电工程学中意为“发射、 播送”,在机械学中意为“传动、变速”,在物理学中为 “透射”,在医学中为“遗传”。

英语科技文章倾向于大量使用动词的非谓语式/非 限定式,即不定式、动名词、现在分词和过去分 词。这些非谓语形式在句中可以做主语、宾语、 表语、定于或状语。汉译英时应该注意。 用这种方法做实验,设备会有一些损失。 The doing of experiment by this method will entail some loss of equipment. 燃烧在纯氧中比在空气中快得多。 Burning takes place much faster in pure oxygen than in air.

As oil is found deep in the ground, its presence cannot be determined by a studyof the surface. Consequently, a geological survey of the underground rock structure must be carried out. If it is thought that the rocks of a certain area contain oil, a “drilling rig” is assembled. The most obvious part of a drilling rig is called “a derrick”. 科学术语来源: 1.赋予已有词语新意义,如memory,mouse,prompt (提示符); 2.从拉丁语或希腊语吸收而来,通常词义狭窄,不易混淆, 如atmosphere,autograph(亲笔签nia(肺炎)。据统计, 普通英语词汇中46%来源于拉丁语,7.2%来源于希腊语, 而科技英语词汇中这些比率更高; 3.新造词语,如allergy(过敏),hormone(激素), reboot(重启)。
