April 1 In sixteenth-century France, the start of the new year was observed on April first. It was celebrated in much the same way as it is today with parties and dancing into the late hours of the night. Then in 1562, Pope Gregory introduced a new calendar for the Christian world, and the new year fell on January first. There were some people, however, who hadn't heard or didn't believe the change in the date, so they continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April first. Others played tricks on them and called them April fools. In France today, April first is called Poisson d'Avril. French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs. When the young fool discovers this trick, the prankster yells Poisson d'Avril!16 世纪的时候,法国人是在4月1号庆祝新年的。

English: April Fool's Day, also known as All Fools' Day, is a day dedicated to playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes. It is celebrated on April 1st every year, where people prank their friends, family, and even strangers. The origins of April Fool's Day are unclear, with some theories suggesting it dates back to the 16th century when France switched to the Gregorian calendar, moving New Year's Day from April 1st to January 1st. Since then, it has become a widely celebrated day across the world, with many companies and media outlets creating elaborate pranks and jokes to fool their audience. Despite its playful nature, it is important to remember to always have fun responsibly and not to cause harm or distress with pranks.

【英⽂】 April Fool's Day is traditionally a day to play practical jokes on others, send people on fool's errands, and fool the unsuspecting. No one knows how this holiday began but it was thought to have originated in France. The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. New Year's was celebrated on March 25 and celebrations lasted until April 1st. When New Year's Day as changed from March 25 to January 1st in the mid-1560's by King Charles IX, there were some people who still celebrated it on April 1st and those people were called April Fools. Pranks performed on April Fool's Day range from the simple, (such as saying, "Your shoe's untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate's alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. The news media even gets involved. For instance, a British short film once shown on April Fool's Day was a fairly detailed documentary about "spaghetti farmers" and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, "April Fool!" April Fool's Day is a "for-fun-only" observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their "significant other" out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It's simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool! Each country celebrates April Fool's differently. In France, the April Fool's is called "April Fish" (Poisson d'Avril). The French fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs and when some discovers a this trick, they yell "Poisson d'Avril!". In England, tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a "noodle". In Scotland, April Fools Day is 48 hours long and you are called an "April Gowk", which is another name for a cuckoo bird. The second day in Scotland's April Fool's is called Taily Day and is dedicated to pranks involving the buttocks. Taily Day's gift to posterior posterity is the still-hilarious "Kick Me" sign.【中⽂】 愚⼈节是⼀个传统的节⽇,⽤来捉弄别⼈,愚弄别⼈,愚弄不知情的⼈。

1:You have to be careful Fools Day 1st April is a day to be careful, or you could easily get tricked by someone. Its April fools Day, a day when people traditionally like to try to make a fool of someone else and laugh at them. There are lots of theories surrounding the origins of the day, but one explanation is connected with the change in the calendar in the 16th century, which meant that 1st April was no longer the beginning of the year. Those who still celebrated the New Year on 1st April were called fools. So what kind of pranks do people play on April fools Day? Well, there are lots of simple tricks that you can play on your friends. For example, you could wear a black sweater and pull a piece of white thread through it, so that people try to pull it off. You could change the time on someones alarm clock so that theyre late for work. Or glue a coin to the floor and see how many people try to pick it up.All these are small-scale practical jokes which you might play on one other person or a few people. But theres also a tradition of large companies attempting to fool a lot of people. For example a burger restaurant once claimed that they were introducing a left-handed burger! In particular, the media often try to make people believe something which is not true. Newspapers publish some ludicrous stories every year, although some of them are actually true. Its entertaining to try to guess which stories are true and which are fake. In the April Fools stories, they often include a clue to the fact that its a joke. For example the name of an expert quoted in the article might be an anagram of April Fool.Radio and television programmes have also fooled many people by broadcasting reports which are untrue. One programme announced the invention of an amazing new weight-loss product - water which contained minus calories! And one of the most famous hoaxes ever was broadcast by the BBC itself in 1957! A very serious news programme called Panorama reported on the poor spaghetti harvest in Switzerland, and showed pictures of farmers picking spaghettifrom trees! Hundreds of people were taken in and wrote to the BBC asking how to grow their own spaghetti. 2:All Fools Day April 1st is the holiday April Fools also known as All Fools Day. Its exact origin is not known, because there are so many stories as to why it started. The most plausible tale is that New Years Day in France used to be April 1st, but the King changed it to January 1st. Not everyone accepted this change for several years and those who didnt were scoffed as fools, thus the term April Fools.Today people from many parts of the world are recognizing and celebrating April 1st in their own unique way. Here at International school is a fruitful student body from all over the world. I decided to ask a few of our fellow classmates from IS to pass on what they did for April Fools and also pass on this tradition to this who dont know about this good hearted holiday. Maybe through Jinan University, April Fools one day will really be global. 3:What was the joke? To end our special news bulletin, said the voice of the television announcer, were going over to the macaroni fields of Calabria. Macaroni has been grown in this area for over six hundredyears. Two of the leading growers, Giuseppe Moldova and Riccardo Brabante, tell me that they have been expecting a splendid crop this year and harvesting has begun earlier than usual. Here you can see two workers who, between them, have just finished cutting three cartloads of golden brown macaroni stalks. The whole village has been working day and night gathering and threshing this years crop before the September rains. On the right, you can see Mrs. Brabante herself. She has been helping her husband for thirty years now. Mrs. Brabante is talking to the manager of the local factory where the crop is processed. This last scene shows you what will happen at the end of the harvest: the famous Calabrian macaroni-eating competition! Signor Fratelli, the present champion, has won it every year since 1991. And that ends our special bulletin for today, Thursday, April lst. Were now going back to the studio.

It’s said that the April fool’s day is started from France. In the year of 1582, the French King Charles decided that the first day of New Year should be January 1st but not April 1st. But some people were not happy about this decision; they still send their New Year gifts to the others on April 1st. The supporters despised the protesters’ behaviors that they give the protesters fake presents and invited them to the fake parties which didn’t go to run at all. When someone has been made fun of, the people around them will cry out “Poisson D’ Avril”, which mean “April fool.” After that, the tradition of making fun of others on April 1st has remained.

1st April is a day to be careful, or you could easily get tricked by someone. It’s April Fool’s Day, a "for-fun-only" observance, a day when people traditionally like to try to make a fool of someone else and laugh at them.Origins(愚人节起源)There are lots of theories surrounding the origins of the day. As we look back in time, many ancient predecessors of April Fool’s Day are found. The most widespread theory about the origin of April Fool’s Day links the day to the calendar reform in France. In 1582 France became the first country to switch from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. This meant that the beginning of the year was moved from the end of March 25th and April 1st, various jokes would be played on him. This story might explain why April 1st became the date of the modern holiday. There have been quite a few attempts to provide mythological explanations for the rise of April Fool’s Day.One story dates back to Roman mythology, particularly the myth of Ceres and Proserpina. In Roman mythology Pluto, the God of the dead, abducted Proserpina called out to her mother Ceres for help. But Ceres, who could only hear the echo of her daughter’s voice, searched in vain for Proserpina. The fruitless search of Ceres for her daughter was commemorated during theRoman festival of Cerealia and believed by some to have been the mythologica l antecedent of the fool’s errands popular on April 1st.British folklore British folklore links April Fool’s Day to the town of Gotham. According to the legend, it was traditional in the 13th century for any road that the King travelled over to become public property. People in Gotham didn’t want to lose their main road and spread a false story to stop the King. A messenger was sent to Gotham after King John learned the people’s trick. But when the messenger arrived in Gotham he found the town was full of lunatics who were engaged in foolish activities such as drowning fish or attempting to cage birds in roofless fences. The King fell for the hoax and declared the town too foolish to warrant punishment. And ever since then, April Fool’s Day has supposedly commemorated their trickery. Anthropological and cultural historians provide their own explanations for the rise of April Fool’s Day. According to them, the celebration traces its roots back to festivals marking the springtime.Spring is the time of year when the weather becomes fickle, as if Nature is playing tricks on man, and festivals occurring during the spring traditionally mirrored this sense of whimsy and surprise. They often involved temporary inversions of the social order. Normal behavior no longer governed during the brief moment of transition as the old world died and the new cycle of seasons was born. Jokes, trickery, and the turning upside down of status expectations were all allowed. In addition, the linkage between April Fool’s Day and thespringtime is seen in another story that traces the origin of the custom back to the abundance of fish to be found in French streams during early April when the young fish had just hatched. These young fish were easy to fool with a hook and lure. Therefore, the French called them “Poisson d’Avril” or “April Fish”. Soon it became customary to fool people on April 1st, as a way of celebrating the abundance of “foolish” fish. In France today, April first is called "Poisson d'Avril." French children fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends' backs. When the "young fool" discovers this trick, the prankster yells "Poisson d'Avril!" (April Fish!)In Scotland, April Fool's Day is actually celebrated for two days. The second day is devoted to pranks involving the posterior region of the body. It is called Taily Day. The origin of the "kick me" sign can be traced to this observance.Mexico and many Spanish-speaking countries have Innocent's Day, on December 28, to make "innocent" a person with jokes and hoaxes. The origin for the pranking is derived from the Catholic feast day Day of the Holy Innocents for the infants slaughtered by King Herod at the time of Jesus' birth. The New York April Fools' Day Parade was created in 1986 to remedy a glaring omission in the long list of New York's annual ethnic and holiday parades. These events fail to recognize the importance of April 1st, the day designated to commemorate the perennial folly of mankind. In an attempt to bridge that gap and bring people back in touch with their inherent foolishness, the parade annually crowns a King of Fools from the parading look-alikes.。

1.april fools' day or all fools' day, though not a holiday in its own right, is a notable day celebrated in many countries on april 1. the day is marked by the commission of hoaxes and other practical jokes of varying sophistication on friends and neighbors, or sending them on fools' errands, the aim of which is to embarrass the gullible. in some countries, april fools' jokes (also called "april fools") are only made before midday. [1] it is also widely celebrated on the internet.2.originthe origin of this custom has been much disputed. many theories have been suggested.what seems certain is that it is in some way or other a relic of those once universal festivities held at the vernal equinox, which, beginning on old new year's day, the 25th of march, ended on the 1st of april.it has been suggested that europe derived its april-fooling from the french [2]. france was one of the first nations to make january 1 officially new year's day (which was already celebrated by many), by decree of charles ix. this was in 1564, even before the adoption of the gregorian calendar (see julian start of the year). thus the new year's gifts and visits of felicitation which had been the feature of the 1st of april became associated with the first day of january, and those who disliked or did not hear about the change were fair game for those wits who amused themselves by sending mock presents and paying calls of pretended ceremony on the 1st of april. french and dutchreferences from 1508 and 1539 respectively describe april fools' day jokes and the custom of making them on the first of april.though the 1st of april appears to have been anciently observed in great britain as a general festival, it was apparently not until the beginning of the 18th century that the making of april-fools was a common custom. in scotland the custom was known as "hunting the gowk," i.e. the cuckoo, and april-fools were "april-gowks," the cuckoo being there, as it is in most lands, a term of contempt. in france the person fooled is known as poisson d'avril. this has been explained from the association of ideas arising from the fact that in april the sun quits the zodiacal sign of the fish. a far more natural explanation would seem to be that the april fish would be a young fish and therefore easily caught.the dutch celebrate the 1st of april for other reasons. in 1572, the netherlands were ruled by spain's king philip ii. roaming the region were dutch rebels who called themselves geuzen, after the french "gueux", meaning beggars. on 1 april, 1572, the geuzen seized the small coastal town of den briel. this event was also the start of the general civil rising against the spanish in other cities in the netherlands. the duke of alba, commander of the spanish army could not prevent the uprising. bril is the dutch word for glasses, so on 1 april, 1572, "alba lost his glasses". dutch people find this joke so hilarious they still commemorate the first of april.the french traditionally celebrated this holiday by placing a dead fish on the back of friends. today the fish is substituted by a floppy kerk.chaucer's story, the nun's priest's tale, written c.1400, takes place on 32 march; that is, 1 april; it is chanticleer and the fox, a story of two fools.3.well-known hoaxesalabama changes the value of pi: the april 1998 newsletter of new mexicans for science and reason contained an article claiming that the alabama legislature had voted to change the value of the mathematical constant pi to the "biblical value" of 3.0. this claim originally appeared as a news story in the 1961 sci-fi classic "stranger in a strange land" by robert a. heinlein.spaghetti trees: the bbc television programme panorama ran a famous hoax in 1957, showing the swiss harvesting spaghetti from trees. they had claimed that the despised pest the spaghetti wevil had been eradicated. a large number of people contacted the bbc wanting to know how to cultivate their own spaghetti trees.。

April Fool’s Day is traditionally a day to play practical jokes on others, send people on fool’s errands, and fool the unsuspecting. No one knows how this holiday began but it was thought to have originated in France.
The closest point in time that can be identified as the beginning of this tradition was in 1582, in France. New Year’s was celebrated on March 25 and celebrations lasted until April 1st. When New Year’s Day as changed from March 25 to January 1st in the mid-1560’s by Ki ng Charles IX, there were some people who still celebrated it on April 1st and those people were called April Fools.
Pranks performed on April Fool’s Day range from the simple, (such as saying, “Your shoe’s untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate’s alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. The news media even gets involved. For instance, a British short film onc e shown on April Fool’s Day was a fairly detailed documentary about “spaghetti farmers” and how they harvest their crop from the spaghetti trees. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, “April Fool!”
April Fool’s Day is a “for-fun-only” observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their “significant other” out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It’s simply a fun little holiday,
but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool!
Each country celebrates April Fool’s differently. In France, the April Fool’s is called “April Fish” (Poisson d’Avril). The French fool their friends by taping a paper fish to their friends’ backs and when some discovers a this trick, they yell “Poisson d’Avril!”.
In England, tricks can be played only in the morning. If a trick is played on you, you are a “noodle”. In Scotland, April Fools Day is 48 hours long and you are called an “April Gowk”, which is another name for a cuckoo bird. The second day in Scotland’s April Fool’s is called Taily Day and is dedicated to pranks involving the buttocks. Taily Day’s gift to posterior posterity is the still-hilarious “Kick Me” sign.
