1. That sex ratio will be favored which maximizes the number of descendants an individual will have and hence the number of gene copies transmitted.

That sex ratio which maximizes the number of descendants an individual will have and hence the number of gene copies transmitted will be favored.

b.在which引导的从句中,有两处省略:第一处在maximize的第一个宾语the number of descendants that an individual will have中,an individual will have是修饰descendants的定语从句,但是,因为descendants在从句中作have的宾语,所以引导词that可以省略。

第二处省略是在第二个the number of 之前,省略了与前面一样的成分that sex ratio which maximizes.

That sex ratio will be favored which maximizes the number of descendants an individual will have and hence the number of gene copies transmitted.2. (This is )A desire to throw over reality a light that never was might give away abruptly to the desire on the part of what we might consider a novelist-scientist to record exactly and concretely the structure and texture of a flower .(5++)复杂+倒装+省略;(这是一种)照亮现实的欲望,此欲望从来就不会唐突的取代后面的那种欲望,后者是我们可以将其部分的理解为一个兼任小说加和科学家的人想要去准确并具体的记录下一朵花的结构和文理的那种意义上的欲望。

Lesson 2 Four Choices for Young People在毕业前不久,斯坦福大学四年级主席吉姆?

Shortly before his graduation,Jim Binns, president of the senior class at Stanford University, wrote me about some of his misgivings.

”“More than any other generation,” he said,“our generation views the adult world with great skepticism… there is also an increased tendency to reject completely that world.”

Apparently he speaks for a lot of his contemporaries.

During the last few years,I have listened to scores of young people,in college and out,who were just as nervous about the grown world.

共同关⼼的问题questions of common interest 解决问题solve a problem 问题的关键the heart of the matter 关键问题a key problem 原则问题a question/matter of principle 没有什么问题without any mishap 摩托车有点问题Something is wrong with the motorcycle. 问题不在这⾥That is not the point.

For Those Fallen for Their Country,北外出版社将《儒林外史》译为:The Scholars。

下次有人问你有对象了吗,你可以回答:“I am damn single!”3.No Z-turn不折腾在国外的交通标识里,有一种叫“No U turn”,就是“不能U型转弯”(不能掉头)。

Anyone who’s ever made room for a big milestone of adult life----a job, a marriage, a move----has likely shoved a friendship to the side. After all, there is no contract locking us to the other person, as in marriage, and there are no blood bonds, as in family. We choose our friends, and our friends choose us. That’s a really distinctive attribute of friendships.

But modern life can become so busy that people forget to keep choosing each other. That’s when friendships fade, and there’s reason to believe it’s happening more than ever. Loneliness is on the rise, and feeling lonely has been found to increase a person’s risk of dying early by 26%----and to be even worse for the body than obesity and air pollution.Loneliness damages health in many ways, particularly because it removes the safety net of social support. “When we perceive our world as threatening, that can be associated with an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.”

In the modern era, technology has seeped into every facet of our lives, and education is no exception. The integration of technology in the educational system has revolutionized the way we learn, teach, and interact with knowledge. This essay will explore the profound impact of technology on education, discussing both its advantages and challenges. The advent of the internet has been a game-changer for education. With a vast array of information at their fingertips, students can now delve into topics with a depth and breadth that was previously unimaginable. Online courses and educational platforms have made learning accessible to a global audience, breaking down geographical barriers and providing opportunities for those who may not have access to traditional educational institutions. Moreover, technology has facilitated personalized learning. Through adaptive learning software, students can learn attheir own pace, focusing on areas where they need improvement. This approach caters to individual learning styles and can significantly enhance the learning experience. However, the integration of technology in education is not without its challenges. One of the primary concerns is the digital divide, where unequal access to technology can exacerbate educational inequalities. Additionally, the over-reliance on technology can sometimes lead to a decrease incritical thinking and problem-solving skills, as students may become too accustomed to readily available information. In conclusion, technology has undeniably transformed the educational landscape. While it offers numerous benefits, such as accessibility and personalized learning, it also presents challenges that need to be addressed. It is crucial for educators and policymakers to work together to ensurethat technology serves as a tool for enhancing education rather than a barrier.
