Teaching aims
1. Knowledge aims
a. Help the students master the key words, phrases, and sentences of the passage.
b. Enable the students to summarize the main ideas of each paragraph and the passage
c. Help the students to summarize the benefits and difficulties of living in a foreign country.
2. Ability aim
Enable the students to discuss what they would learn when living in another country.
3. Emotional aim
Help the students learn how to deal with the problem that they could meet while traveling.
Teaching important points
Let students learn to use the structures of expressing and solve the problems. Teaching difficult points
How to deal with the problems that are likely to happen when studying abroad and how to prevent them.

Step I Warming-up
1. Enjoy an English song---It’s a small world.
设计意图:让学生有一个轻松、活泼的氛围,拉近教师与学生的距离。我选的这首歌曲是学生比较熟悉的英文歌曲,不仅可以调动学生学习的积极性,而且使其自然地进入学习主题。
2. Show the students some pictures around the world and guess the places.
设计意图:在必修一,我们已经学过和旅游有关的课文,同学们对旅游这个话题比较熟悉。通过展示世界各地著名景点的图片,让学生回忆之前所学的东西,激活他们已有的知识,进一步营造宽松活跃的课堂气氛,激发学生的思维。同时从这个话题自然过渡到出国留学。
Step II Pre-reading
Watch a video about some Chinese students studying in Harvard University.
设计意图:在激发学生原有知识的基础上,欣赏一段视频,视频中有几个中国留学生分享他们在哈佛大学学习的经历,使学生们有一种身临其境的感觉。通过观看视频,让他们了解在国外学习的利与弊,为理解课文做好铺垫。

Task 2 Divide the text into 3 parts according to the main ideas of each parts.

设计意图:让学生通过skimming,更好地了解文章的梗概,了解文章各段及整个文章的大意。培养学生快速阅读完文章后迅速匹配各段大意的能力。Detailed reading

Task 3 Fill in the blanks about the advances of living with a host family.

设计意图:由于原文篇幅太长,信息量比较大,所以在细读环节对原文进行了重新组合。通过填空题,选择题和问答题多种形式的练习方式,让学生快速捕捉和了解文章的关键信息。把文章较难理解的观点降低难度,使学生在通过解答题目的过程中正确了解谢蕾在国外学习的利与弊,又能使学生积极思考,投入课堂。Summary

设计意图:根据课文内容对总结的文章大意进行填空,目的是让学生运用关键词复述课文的内容,以此来培养学生的逻辑思维能力和语言组织能力,同时可以检查学生对课文的理解的程度,对之后的语言输出做好准备。

Discuss the topic: What are the advantages and disadvantages of studying in a foreign country?
设计意图:让学生两人一组进行讨论,目的是让学生从语言和思想两个方面对文章进行回顾。通过小组互动的方式,达到知识输出和语言输出,培养学生的口头表达能力。为了减低难度,我先列出自己非常有启发性的思想和建议,使程度较差的学生也能参与到讨论中。

1. Underline all the important and difficult phrases and sentences in the text.
2. Suppose you have a chance to go to England for further education, what suggestions will you make? Write the suggestions.
设计意图:在理解文章的基础上预习文中出现的知识点,并几条到国外学习的建议,采用写作的形式,使每个学生都有机会表达自己的观点,实现语言共有性的目的,写是读的最终目的。
