Eastern Rose vs. Western Camellia: Looking at the Development of Female Power through Camellia ✓ Woman and Du Shiniang

Du Shiniang was influenced by feudal society, which ultimately led to her tragedy, while the Camellia Woman was also deeply influenced by the social ideology of that time and lost herself. They all have one thing in common, which is the desire to change their destiny. Even if it is difficult and there is no hope, they still hold hope in their hearts. They wanted to break the societal perception of them and pursue their love and life, but the society at that time did not allow them to do so. That's why in the end, although their fate experiences were different, they all headed towards death.

An Analysis on Male-centered Consciousness in The Lady of the Camellias Abstract The Lady of the Camellias was a masterpiece of world literature and even was presented on the stage for many times. And as we all know, The Lady of the Camellias was the first foreign novel that entered our country. It played an importantrole in modern Chinese literature. It was a tragic love story between Marguerite Gautier, a prostitute and a young bourgeois, Armand Duval. Marguerite was not only a prostitute but also a beautiful girl with pure heart. She sacrificed everything she had for love, even her own life. This essay analyzed the tragic story of The Lady of the Camellias from the prospective of male-centered consciousness. The paper is divided into four parts: the first part introduces the author, the writing background, story itself, and other basic information; the second part introduces the gender theory and male-centered consciousness which belongs to it; the third part analyzes the domination of Alexandre Dumas Fils’s male-centered consciousness on the Novel from different aspects, such as heroine’s identity, character, life experience, indication, women’s thoughts, the uneven relationship between woman and man, the author’s narrative technique; the fourth part sums up the paper and puts forward its practical significance. The tragic ending of the heroine was due to a multitude of reasons. But the main reason should be the domination of male-centered consciousness on the society and people’s thought. We should realize that the male-centered consciousness impacted not only literature works but also every aspects of people’s life. My thoughts about the Lady of the Camellias茶花女英文读后

My thoughts about the Lady of the Camellias茶花女英文读后

The Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas filsClass_3No.NameMy thoughts about the Lady of the Camellias The Lady of the Camellias also called La dame aux camélias in French is a novel written by Alexandre Dumas fils. This novel tells about a love story between a prostitute, Marguerite Gautier and a young provincial bourgeois, Armand Duval. Though Marguerite Gautier was a prostitute, she had a pure heart. She fell in love with Armand Duval, and then tried to escape from her questionable past. They loved each other very much, and they even imagined a picture of their bright future and happy life. However, things always do not go as expected. Unfortunately, the former life came back to haunt her and she returned to that life again and died painfully and alone. And because of many other factors , their love ended up with a tragedy. The female protagonist in this novel was a poor village girl. She was very beautiful and kind-hearted. In order to earn her living, she became a prostitute, but she still was a noble woman at heart. She longed for true love, and then she lost her heart to Armand Duval. She was not like other prostitutes, and she had her own thoughts. Outwardly, she lived a voluptuous life, bur she was depressed in her heart. She was eager to go back to a ordinary life. Just because that, when Armand Duval ran after her , she fell for him quickly.Maybe because she lived in such a insincere society for a long time that she took her love more important than any other things. She would gave her whole world for her love. She did not want the money to be involved in their love. She didn't want to spend Armand Duval's money, because she thought the money would contaminate their pure love and she did not want Armand Duval to make a mistake that she was a material woman. She just wanted a pure love without any other things. Therefore, she tried her best to support their love. After their source of income from the old duke was cut, Marguerite Gautier started to sell all her things to pay her debts and support their life without telling Armand Duval. This action expressed how important Marguerite Gautier took their love and how much she loved the man.But on the other hand, Marguerite Gautier was a little stupid. She believed that as a prostitute, it was a big favor to accept a pure love from the fate. So she should do more to repay it. How silly she was! She was wrong. She did not know the true love was not only to share happiness but also to share sorrows. She should tell her thoughts to Armand Duval and solve the problem with him instead of by herself. And if so, there was no gap and suspicion between them.Another characteristic of Marguerite Gautier was she was too kind-hearted that she lacked rebellious spirit. She always had consideration for others, but forgot herself. When Armand Duval's father persuaded her to give up their love and told her that ifthey lived together , it will ruined the future of Armand Duval and the marriage of the Armand Duval's sister, she really did so regardless of her own feelings. Because she knew she was just a prostitute, she had no right to destroy others' futures and she did not want to do that. She loved Armand Duval very much and she wished him a better life even if she could not live with him. Therefore, she decided to give up their love and bore all the consequences and pains by herself. She was such a selfless lady!To some degree, the tragedy of Marguerite Gautier was made by herself. She was so kind-hearted, selfless, and considerate. She did not to resist. But there were some other reasons. Armand Duval was skeptical and recreant. He always suspected Marguerite Gautier's love for him and even hurt her when he misunderstood her. And if Armand Duval could be determined, when facing his father, they might not separate at last. All these things were responsible for their love tragedy.Personally, I think the biggest obstacle was society. Because it was Capitalist system in that time. Everybody was money-mad and they just valued the money and the social position. The did not allow a prostitute to marry a person who had a good social position. Or they will look down on the person and despised him. Let us imagine that if Armand Duval's father was in favor of them and made them get married, they still would not be accept by society and the public. How could they live? Would they have a happy life? Of course not! So the society should took the most responsibility for their tragedy. And their tragedy was not theirs but also reflected the tragedy of society.。

我被书中男女主人公的爱情故事而感动,读到伤心之处,未免掉泪。

Recently read on behalf of the famous French writer Alexandre Dumas's work: "La Traviata", read two times, will you not. I was touched by the book of love stories, read the sad place, it tears.

The modern people want to get true love, want to get specific moments in the discussion of love, but also what is love? If there is true love? "La Traviata" gives us a correct answer: between men and women in love, is a kind of dedication, is a given, is a kind of loyalty, sacrifice, selfless, not to take, but not to cheat; have a genuine and sincere desire for the sake of each other, each other to do any sacrifice everything, can to make each other happy as his greatest pleasure and satisfaction.我想每个人在通读小说,在为男女主人公悲欢离合而高兴、而担心、而落泪的同时,一下自己在情感方面的得与失,才能更加珍惜自己的爱情,善待亲情和友情。

The lady of the Camellias(茶花女英文读后感)

The lady of the Camellias(茶花女英文读后感)

The lady of the CamelliasThe Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas, is the story of Marguerite Gautier. She is a prostitute or a kept woman lived in Paris in the mid 1800's. She is famous and talented, living an extravagant and dissipated prostitute life. When we talked about The lady of the Camellias, first we might think is “the tragic prostitute”, what we thought about her was just feel pity on her tragic outcome and hate the feudalism’s apathy and ruthless. A young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800’s, She got lost herself in the emptiness, and how she falls in love with a young man, Aermang Duval, after then she tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone. But in fact, when we go further to the narrative, what we thought about the lady Marguerite is not only the sympathy or the more it should be admiration or appreciation. She got lost in a luxury and dissipation life, but she was still sure what exactly she was pursuing and was keeping her own principles, without any consideration to pursue her true love once she met up with it. Her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She strongly resist the reality of the society, but still gave up temporary happiness herself at last due to her kind of forbearance, sacrifice herself to achieve others’ aim. Therefore, she worth us to lay aside these worldly prejudices to recognize and appreciate. So to figure out Camellie, we can mainly talk about in the following aspects: her lost, rigid and forbearance. It seems that beautiful women always have tragic endings. In my view, the lovers should believe each other, only did so can they get on well with each other and have a good future. When they face some difficult problems, they can solve them together. A bit more trust, a less suspicion, if they did this, the love tragedy would not happen.。

茶花女英语 读书笔记Those Beautiful Flowers

茶花女英语 读书笔记Those Beautiful Flowers

Those Beautiful Flowers---Book Review: “Camille”I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800's, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was a noble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She felt used, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came into her life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not for what she could do for him. It must have taken great courage for Marguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing all along that it was probably too good to be true and would not last indefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him. However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armand's father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save bothArmand's reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. I think Dumas's last few lines about Marguerite being the exception, not the rule were quite true, and I also agreed with his view that while her lifestyle could not be condoned, we as a society assume that all of these type of women are cold and heartless, while this may not always be the case. A person can make the wrong choices in life when they are young, and try to redeem themselves, but sometimes past situations prevent them from changing their lives, even though they desperately wish to do so. This applies to both men and women in many different types of circumstances: involvement in crime; drug or alcohol abuse; gambling; prostitution; financial problems; poor marriage choices; etc. And this is the fact, which exists in the whole society. As far as the other characters in the book, I think Marguerite was right in saying that no one truly cared about her, but only wanted something from her, the only exceptions being Armand and Julie Duprat. Of course, theComte de G. and Comte de N. wanted her body and appearance. The Duke needed to “wake up and smell the coffee” and realize that she could never replace his dead daughter. If he truly cared, he could have helped her leave her lifestyle without “keeping” her himself. And l astly, Prudence was a blood-sucking leech who used Marguerite almost worse than the men. I also think she was jealous of the fact that Marguerite had so much more courage than herself and someone truly loved her.Last morning, when tiding my bookshelf, I took this book out of the shelf, and a dried flower flew away from the book. It was pale blue, very transparent, with thin fine veins. a dried flower flew away from the book. It was pale blue, very transparent, with thin fine veins. I held it against the morning light and blew on it. The soft breeze carried it away. Camille is just like the camellia, she could never escape from the destiny of withering. But it wasn’t her fault; it’s because of the evil of Capitalism and the hideousness of that society.Suddenly, I remembered a saying: “Women are like the flowers”. Those pretty women are like those beautiful flowers; their delicate beauty makes people feel they are the miracle of life. However, even the God envies their beauty. It seems that beautiful wo men always have tragic endings. As we are normal persons, even we can see the hideousness of humanity that results in their fate of withering, we can at most ask quietly in our hearts: Where have those beautiful flowers gone? Where have they gone?。

2. 《the lady of the camellias》is Little Dumas’ 》 first great novel which made him famous. In the novel, Little Dumas wrote a lady’s story, Which he had really went through in his life.
His father, Alexander Dumas, is a great playwright and novelist, too. Under the influence of his father, Little Dumas had a dream that one day he would be a famous writer, just like his father.
• She reluctantly returns to her former life, kno wing that some day Armand would forgive her. • But Armand thinks that she doesn’t love him any more and begins looking down on her and retaliating against Marguerite, the innocent woman. • Sadly, she dies in debt and basically alone , except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat , who helps her during her illness. • She has her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she has made the choices she had. • When Armand knows the truth, he fells so regretful and painful in heart. He buries his loved girl and puts much camellias around her grave.
Some of my feeling
• Marguerite ,the lady of camellia ,is just like the camellia for she could never escape from the destiny of withering. • But it wasn’t her fault; it’s because of the evil of Capitalism(资本主义) and the hideousness (丑 恶)of that society.
1. When Little Dumas was 20 years old, he remarked some problems in real society and found the inspiration around his life. Then he wrote some stories about ladies and marriages into his novels which reflected the dark society of French in 19th century.
• When M. Duval, Armand's father, comes to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armand's reputation and that of his you nger innocent sister. • Marguerite sees a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. • She feels that it is her duty, because she love s Armand so much, to do this even though it means giving up her own happiness and hurt ing Armand temporarily.
• The story changes one day when a man named Armand meets Marguerite. • Armand falls in love with her at the first time they meet. • Then he runs after her in spite of her work. • And soon the two young people could not go out of the loving river….

A Frenchman living in Paris A playwright and novelist One of the founders of the “problem play”
• The protagonist in the novel is Marguerite Gautier. • Marguerite Gautier, a beautiful girl whose favorite flower is camellia, was born in a poor family in the country .And she always wears camellias in her hair. • However, she has to go to Paris for life when she was very young. Under the pressure of hard life, she sells her youth and body for money and enjoys the loose life everyday, coming down to be a courtesan (高级妓女 or kept woman. 高级妓女), 高级妓女 • But with the knowledge , she was a noble woman at heart.
• I remembered a saying--“Women are like the flowers”. • Those pretty women are like those beautiful flowers; their delicate beauty makes people feel they are the miracle of life. However, maybe the God envies their beauty.
Thank you
~
• It seems that beautiful women always have tragic endings. • As we are normal perso ns, even we can see the hideousness of humanity that results in their fate of withering, • we can ask quietly in our hearts: Where have those beautiful flowers g one?
