My assumption is since I have never learned Chinese grammar, what’s the sense of learning English grammar? In fact, English grammar has always been a big headache to me.English grammar is very plicated because, unlike Chinese, there are many verb tenses. Even stranger than verb tenses, English grammar also contains something very confusing. Forexample, I don’t remember how many times my middle school teacher tried to“impose”the differences between used to and be used to on us. Sometimes he would go on with the explanation for 20 minutes or so. He even summarized the differences by listing three or four points for us to memorize. However, they could never stay in my head . I don’t remember how many times I got it wrong with the sentences containing used to or be used to on my exams . I was really confused with these two phrases, and I can never get them right. In brief, I’m allergic to learning English grammar. Curiously, I just wonder if the native speakers of English have a microputer in their brain to help them utter the two phrases promptly with just a click of their brain mouse!Ex.9 E-C Translation人们普遍认为英语是一种世界语言,经常被许多不以英语为第一语言的国家使用。

10Chinese calligraphy is a unique art and the unique art treasure in the world. The formation and development of the Chinese calligraphy is closely related to the emergence and evolution of Chinese characters. In this long evolutionary process, Chinese characters have not only played an important role in exchanging ideas and transmitting culture but also developed into a unique art form. Calligraphic works well reflect calligraphers' personal feelings, knowledge, self-cultivation, personality, and so forth, thus there is an expression that "seeing the calligrapher's handwriting is like seeing the person". As one of the treasures of Chinese culture, Chinese calligraphy shines splendidly in the world's treasure house of culture and art.补充翻译:Although many students seem allergic to English and always get lost in English learning, they still feel obliged to learn it well. Then how can teachers make students’ journey of English learning enjoyable? Effective, precise, and beneficial communication depends upon grammar and a good vocabulary. Thus, for the students with language deficit and should learn from scratch, it does make sense to teach them the essential framework of language, accurate grammar and proper vocabulary. Learning grammar and a good vocabulary is just like driving with a road map in a well-conditioned car. One should often study the road map (check grammar) and tune up the car engine (adjust vocabulary). Equipped with these two essential assets, students will surely become attached to English and have excellent control in their journey of English learning.Text B2 1.D 2.A 3.C 4.A 5.C 6.B 7.C D4 1.mysterious 2.desperate 3.devise 4.negotiate 5.recalled 6.specifically 7.depict 8.ignorance 9.expand 10.confusion5 1.apply to 2.in a bid to 3.end up 4.Speaking of 5.get hold of 6.appealed to7.Leaving… behind 8.focus on8 1.essential framework 2.proper vocabulary 3.excellent control nguage deficit 5.high standards nguage proficiency 7.acquire knowledge petent communication 9.overcome deficiencies 10.sketch thoughts 11.effective communication 12.advanced vocabularyText A3 1.promotes 2.accelerate 3.mystery 4.insight 5.boost 6.analysis 7.calculate 8.barriers 9.destruction 10.protest5 1.excess 2.bearing 3.objective 4.intensify 5.execute 6.promising 7.exclude 8. identity 9. offend 10.housing6 1.C 2. Unit 1 The Way to SuccessSection A1 Understanding the text.1 He achieved fame for his wit, wisdom, civic duty, and abundant courage.2 They were thought to be slow learners in childhood, but they overcame their childhood difficulties and made magnificent discoveries that benefit the entire world today.3 His strong will.4 It means to keep their focus on achieving a positive end result, instead of letting small problems get in the way of good results.5 Because they have the will to overcome profound obstacles and to work diligently in the pursuit of their goals, and have the passion for success.6 Because firms preferred to hire less qualified men rather than risk hiring a female lawyer, which was unprecedented.7 We should never give up on our dream, and one day we can change the world and make it a better place.8 The secret of success is built upon a burning inward desire---a robust, fierce will and focus---that fuels the determination to act, to keep preparing, to keep going even when we are tired and fail.2 Critical thinking1 You may have tried and failed many times before you finally get success. But it does not matter. What matters is whether you can summon up(鼓起)all your courage again and again to face the hardships standing in the way of success.2 Luck, talent, good relationships with your colleagues, etc.3 When I have realized that I am pursuing something that is hard to achieve, I would try to stick to the goal. But l will begin to think of what I can do to improve the situation. When it still doesn't work, I would try to analyze what the problem is and then make some changes and probably reset my goal. Yes, sometimes we are pursuing the wrong goal which can never be achieved, only to find ourselves in deep frustration and profound fatigue. In this situation, I may give up the wrong goal and set up another goal that is achievable.4 Following the guidance of senior people.●Getting sound advice from our parents.●Setting a correct goal.●Achieving success step by step.●Developing good interpersonal relationships.Language focus3 Words in usel whereby 2 pursuit 3 inhibit 4 maintain 5 patriotic 6 transcended 7 endeavors 8 dedication 9 prestige 10 nominate4 Word buildingWords learned New words formed-antinhabitant inhabitparticipate participantattend attendantpollute pollutantdescend descendantcontest contestanttolerate tolerantresult resultant-fulneglect neglectfulresource resourcefulboast boastfulrespect respectful5l resultant 2 tolerant 3 pollutants 4 inhabited 5 contestants 6 descendants 7 attendants 8 respectful 9 participants 10 neglectful11 resourceful 12 boastful6 Banked cloze1 F2 G3 H4 J5 E6 A7 N8 I9 K l0 M7 Expressions in usel removed from 2 failed in 3 in the pursuit of 4 deviated from 5 precludes; from 6 triumph over 7 work their way into 8 written off9 Translation世界公民是指一个人承认自己是新兴的全球社区的一分子,而且其行动对全球社区的价值打造和实践活动有所贡献。

新视野大学英语(第三版)第二册读写教程课后答案Unit 1 Language in missionText A An impressive English lessonEx.1 Understanding the text1、Because he is tired of listening to his father and he is not interested in grammar rules.2、The civilization of Greece and the glory of Roman architecture are so marvelous and remarkable that they should be described at least in a brief account; however, what the student could do was only one single utterance :“whoa!” without any any specific comment.3、Because the schools fail to set high standards of language proficiency. They only teach a little grammar and less advanced vocabulary. And the younger teachers themselves have little knowledge of the vital structures of language.4、Because teaching grammar is not an easy job and most of the students will easily get bored if it’s not properly dealt with.5、He familiarized his son with different parts of speech in a sentence and discussed their specific grammatical functions including how to use adverbs to describe verbs.6、Because the son had never heard about the various names and functions of words in an English sentence before.7、The author uses “road map”and “car”to describe grammar and vocabulary. Here,“road map”is considered as grammar and “car”as vocabulary.8、Since the subjunctive mood his son used is a fairly advanced grammar structure, the interjection“whoa!”reflects the tremendous pride the father had toward his son; it also reflects the author’s humor in using the word because it was once used by his student, though in two different situations and with two different feelings.Ex.3 Words in use1.condense2.exceed3.deficit4.exposure5.asset6.adequatepetent8.adjusting9.precisely 10.beneficialEx.4 Word building-al/-ial: managerial/editorial/substance/survival/tradition/margin -cy : consistency/accuracy/efficient-y : recovery/ministry/assemblyEx.5 Word building1.editorial2.recovery3.accuracy4.substance5.managerial6.margin7.assembly8.Ministry9.survival 10.tradition11.consistency12.efficientEx.6 Banked cloze1-5: L C J A I 6-10: O N E H FEx.7 Expressions in use1.feel obliged to2.be serious about3.run into4.distinguish between5.thrust upon6.was allergic to7.get lost8.be attracted to9.make sense 10.looked upon asEx.8 Structured writingSome bookworms in my dormitory often spend hours reading their “Bible”, Practical English Grammar, and do a lot of exercises in that book , but I don’t care about it at all. My assumption is since I have never learned Chinese grammar, what’s the sense of learning English grammar? In fact, English grammar has always been a big headache to me.English grammar is very complicated because, unlike Chinese, there are many verb tenses. Even stranger than verb tenses, English grammar also contains something very confusing. For example, I don’t remember how many times my middle school teacher tried to“impose”the differences between used to and be used to on us. Curiously, I just wonder if the native speakers of English have a microcomputer in their brain to help them utter the two phrases promptly with just a click of their brain mouse!Ex.9 E-C Translation人们普遍认为英语是一种世界语言,经常被许多不以英语为第一语言的国家使用。

When you get to the part where I‟m expected to promise to …love, respect and obey her,‟…giving up all others,‟ and …be true to her forever,‟ I‟d be happy if you‟d just leave that part out.” He gave the minister the cash and walked away with a light heart. The wedding day arrived, and the bride and groom reached that part of the ceremony where they would make vows to each other. When it was time for the groom‟s vows, the minister looked the young man in the eye and said, “Will you promise to kneel before her, obey her every command and wish, serve her breakfast in bed every morning of your life and make a vow before God and your lovely wife that you will never even look at another woman, as long as you both shall live?”The groom was shocked, but in spite of himself, he said in a low voice, “Yes, I will.” Then the groom whispered to the minister, “I thought we had a deal.” The minister put the $100 into his hand and whispered back, “She made me a much better offer.”1.F2.F3.T4.T5.FTask 3: Long Distance FriendshipsAmerican weddings are not always the same. I‟d like to show you pictures of my wedding. When we got engaged, an announcement was published in the newspaper. The announcement typically includes the names of the bride, the bridegroom and their parents and the wedding is expected to be held. About a month before the wedding, we sent out wedding invitations to relatives and friends. This is the church where we had the wedding. My father gave me to my future husband. Then the minister started the wedding ceremony. He greeted the guests, and talked about the meaning of marriage. Next, we exchanged vows and gave each other rings. This is the main part of the wedding. After the vows, the minister prayed for us. Then the minister declared us husband and wife, and we kissed each other. Here is my sister, who was a bridesmaid. This is the bouquet I carried. Traditionally, the unmarried women gather after the wedding, and the bride throws her bouquet to them. The one who catches it will, according to tradition, be the next one to get married. At the reception, we cut the wedding cake and fed each other bites of the cake. Then we toasted each other with champagne. Finally the reception was over, and the minister signed the marriage certificate and we were legally married.1. A2.B3.C4.D1-3-7-5-4-2-6IV. Casual dating usually begins in the early teens, and in the late teens a pattern of steady dating develops. There is a great possibility that one goes to a dance with one person, to a football game with another, and to a picnic with a third. Sometimes two couples go out together. This is known as “double dating.”Group dating is also popular among young people. Large groups of boys and girls may go around together. Young people may go out together for a long time, which is, in effect, a public statement of their intention to marry. Men and women go out together a great deal, especially those in cities. This is “adult dating.”They ski together, dine together, either at restaurants or in each other‟s homes. The American dating system is a rather casual one. Often young Americans who hardly know each other go out on dates. It is also acceptable for them to arrange a “blind date”, that is, a date between two young people who have not met before.Dating DescriptionCausal dating Early teensSteady dating Late teensMany partners e.g. a dance, a game, a picnicDouble dating Two couplesGroup dating Large groupsGo out for a long period Intention to marryAdult dating Men and women.e.g.ski, work, dine togetherCasual dating system Those who hardly know each otherBlind dating Those who have never met beforeVI. Filial piety is the basic code of ethics in the ancient Chinese society. Chinese people consider filial piety as the essence of a person's integrity, family harmony, and the nation's well-being. With filial piety being the core of Confucian ethics, it has been the moral standard for the Chinese society to maintain the family relationship for thousands of years. It's undoubtedly a traditional Chinese virtue. The culture of filial piety is a complex concept, rich in content and wide in range. It includes not only cultural ideas but also institutional etiquettes. Generally speaking, it refers to the obligation of children to their parents required by the society, including respect, care, support for the elderly and so forth. Filial piety is fundamental to the ancient "Oriental civilization".

The Odyssey years are certainly a very complicated phase of life for young people. Not only do these young people need to overcome many difficulties, they also have to face many challenges form their parents. The differences between parents and children can be well observed in their completely different attitudes and views. First, they differ in their attitude toward life. Parents always wonder what has gone wrong with the new generation. They feel that during their time, young boys
and girls were better behaved, more obedient and had greater respect for elders. Young people, on the other hand, feel that they are capable enough to learn on their own rather than lean heavily on the older generation for guidance. Young people do not like to be spoon-fed by their parents.
The differences also appear in the way the two generations look at things. For example, the parents’ generation never understood Elvis and the Beatles. Because they couldn’t understand what was going on, they were frequently opposed to them and saw rock as “the devil’s music”. Young people, however, are crazy about the modern music and would love to listen to it for a hundred times a day. Wherever they go, they’ll have their iPod with them.
In conclusion, it’s very difficult for parents and their youngster s to get along due to their distinctive attitudes and the way they view things. To fill this gap, both parents and their grown children need to be more understanding to each other.
