But despite their problems,Brazilians can put them aside and center their awareness completely on the here and now, which is something the rest of the world could learn from.MusicBrazil is a music universe, unrivaled (无与伦比的) in diversity of musical styles, instruments and rhythms. The world knows samba,a mix of European marches and African drumming, and bossa nova, a slower samba infused (注入)with French impressionism and American jazz. But Brazil's diverse population moves to the beat of many different drummers.PartyingCelebrating is a priority for Brazilians, whether it's on a large scale or just a backyard barbecue. They throw two of the world's biggest parties,Carnival (The street carnival of Rio de Janeiro is designated by Guinness World Records as the largest carnival in the world.),and the New Year's Reveillon celebration.KissesGetting to know p eople in Brazil is a fasttrack process. They don't care too much about personal and emotional space.A kiss on both cheeks is traditional for a male who has been introduced to an adult female, and two more kisses are given w hen leaving. In most of Brazil, there are two air kisses given in greeting. The first always goes to the right cheek, the second to the left.[语篇解读] 本文是一篇应用文,主要向我们介绍了巴西的一些特点,使我们充分领略了巴西独特的人文魅力。

2019版高考英语一轮巩固达标练Unit1Festivalsaroundtheworld(含解析)新人教版

Unit 1 Festivals around the world李仕才***阅读理解。
Everyone knows that death is natural, but do you have any idea of the process of dying? Modern scientists divide the process of dying into two stages — clinical or temporary death and biological death. Clinical death occurs when the vital organs, such as the heart or lungs, have stopped functioning, but have not suffered permanent damage. The organism can still be saved. Biological death occurs when changes in the organism lead to the “breaking up” of vital ce lls and tissues. Death is then unchangeable and final.Scientists have been seeking a way to prolong the period of clinical death so that the organism can remain alive before biological death occurs. The best method developed so far involves cooling the organism, combined with narcotic (麻醉) sleep. By slowing down the body’s metabolism (新陈代谢), cooling delays the processes leading to biological death. To show how this works, scientists performed an experiment on a six-year-old female monkey called Keta. The scientist put Keta to sleep with a narcotic. Then they surrounded her body with ice-bags and began checking her body temperature. When it had dropped to 28 degrees the scientists began taking blood out from an artery (动脉). The monkey’s blood pressure decrea sed and an hour later both the heart and breathing stopped: clinical death set in. For twenty minutes Keta remained in this state. Her temperature dropped to 22 degrees. At this point the scientists pumped blood into an artery in the direction of the heart and started artificial breathing. Respecting folk traditions is a gesture of respect toward public opinion,” said Zhou Xing, a folklore(民俗) researcher.“As people gain more income and it becomes easier to buy daily goods, the New Year holiday is just like any other. After long workdays, many people use the New Year holiday to take a rest, rather than visiting friends and neighbors. The process of making and enjoying the family dinner on Spring Festival Eve is the most important thing. However, many families would like to eat out to save time and energy,” said Li Shunzhi, a resident of Harbin, Heilongjiang.“I enjoy the holidays very much in the countryside. My family has been preparing for the Spring Festival more than two weeks before the holiday, cleaning the house, buying holiday goods and decorating the house wit h paper cuttings. On New Year’s Eve, the whole family stays up to see the New Year in, and in the days to follow, a series of activities such as lion dancing, dragon lantern dancing, lantern festivals and temple fairs will be held. B(2018·合肥高三质检)May Day, the first day of May, is celebrated as a spring festival in many countries. It marks the approach of summer. The English developed their May Day festival from the Roman festival called Floralia. In the festival of Floralia, the Romans gathered flowers to honor the goddess of spring, Flora. In the Middle Ages, May Day became the favorite holiday of many English villages. People gathered flowers to decorate their homes and churches, sang spring songs and chose a king and a queen of May. Villagers dancedaround a tall pole fixed upright in the ground, called a maypole, each holding the end of a ribbon attached to the top of the pole. They tied the ribbons around the pole until it was covered with bright colors. They collected dew(露水)on May Day morning and washed their faces with it because they believed that the dew on the day had the magic power to regain youth.Nowadays in Britain people no longer attach great importance to the day, but in some towns and villages people still celebrate it by choosing the May Queen and dancing around the maypole. May Queen is a girl selected as the most beautiful girl on May Day. She is usually crowned with flowers and often driven in procession through the street. In the United States, the day has never been celebrated with the same enthusiasm as in Britain. But in many American towns and cities, children celebrate the day with dancing and singing. They often gather flowers in handmade paper baskets and hang them on the doorknobs of the homes of their friends’ and neighbor s’ on May Day morning. At May Day parties, children select May Queen, dance around the maypole, and sing May Day songs.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。
