What does the author say in…?According to the passage, where / when / why / how / who…?What is the reason for…?Which of the following is (NOT) true?Which of the following is (NOT) mentioned? The writer mentioned all of the following EXCEPT…2.

What does the author think about…?What can be inferred / concluded from…?What do you think…according to the passag e?According to the writer, which of the following is right? 3.

阅读理解Coral reefs (珊瑚礁) are an integral part of sea life and sustain it by providing shelter and habitat to various organisms. They also supply and recycle nutrients as well as enable a growing fish population, along with other species, for a healthy and diverse ecosystem. However, the rise in average water temperatures due to climate change has resulted in more frequent and longtime coral bleaching (白化现象) events that damage their health, causing fish and other sea species to abandon them.In order to restore this delicate ecosystem, scientists from the UK and Australia conducted a study that involved using loudspeakers underwater near damaged coral reefs to make them sound healthy and attract fish, potentially kick-starting the natural recovery process of coral reefs and their dependent life forms. The location for this experiment was the Great Barrier Reef in the Coral Sea, found alongside the east coast of Queensland, Australia. The site is noted to have the largest coral reef system in the world."Healthy coral reefs are remarkably noisy places-the crackle of snapping shrimp and the whoops and grunts of fish. Young fish concentrate on these sounds when they're looking for a place to settle," said Steve Simpson, study co-author and a professor at the University of Exeter, UK.By using loudspeakers to copy such sounds, parts of dead coral reefs were found to attract twice as many fish, compared to places where no sounds were played. "These returning fish, are crucial for coral reefs to function as healthy ecosystems. Boosting fish populations in this way could help to kick-start natural recovery processes, preventing the damage we're seeing on many coral reefs around the world," said lead author, Tim Gordon.(1)What causes the phenomenon of coral bleaching?A.Diverse species.B.Noise pollution.C.Fishing industry.D.Climbing temperatures.(2)What approach is introduced to recover the coral reefs?A.Removing damaged coral reefs.ing loudspeakers to keep fish away.C.Building new homes for sea species.D.Playing certain sounds to appeal to fish.(3)Why are Steve Simpson's words quoted?A.To provide some findings of the study.B.To show the progress of the experiment.C.To explain reasons for the new approach.D.To give another solution to the problem.(4)What can we infer from the last paragraph?A.The attempts are in vain.B.Natural recovery is impossible.C.Initial success has been achieved.D.The coral reefs have returned to normal.【答案】(1)D(2)D(3)C(4)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,由于气候变化导致的平均水温上升导致了更频繁、更长期的珊瑚白化事件,而为了恢复这一脆弱的生态系统,科学家们在受损的珊瑚礁附近使用水下扩音器,让珊瑚听起来更健康,从而能够吸引鱼类。

Some men had found a yellow metal in the Arctic darkness, and thousands of other men were rushing there. These men wanted dogs that were heavy, with strong muscles for working hard and furry coats to protect them from the cold.Buck lived at a big house in a sunny valley in California which was owned by Judge Miller. He was neither a house dog nor a kennel (狗窝) dog. The whole of Judge Miller's land was his. And when he died, Buck took his father's place. He was not so large—he weighed only sixty kilogram—for his mother, Shep, had been a Scottish sheepdog. Hunting and other outdoor activities had hardened his muscle, and swimming had made himhealthy. This was Buck in the autumn of 1897, when the discovery of gold in the Klondike brought Men from everywhere to the frozen north. He had never been struck by a club in his life, and he did not understand. He was smashed down a dozen times.Buck saw that he stood no chance against the man with the club. He had learned the lesson, and for the rest of his life he never forgot it. It was his introduction into the world of primitivelaw. There was a line at the fish counter, but only one staff person was there to take care of the customers. Some customers ordered quite an amount of fish for that staff person to work on. At last I was the second in line. All I wanted was a couple of crabs and should get out of there in no time.Noticing it was very busy at the fish counter, another staff person came over to help. I was ready to be served, but the staff person went to the end of the line and began to help a couple of ladies with snail (蜗牛). The customers in front of me, being served, turned around and looked at me sympathetically and the customer behind me called to the staff person, “You should star t here,” pointing at me. He was, well, ignored. If someone asked me, "What is the most important rule to follow in America?" I would reply without hesitation. "Wait your turn at all times." Wherever you go here in this country, you will find people waiting in a line quietly to get anything: whether in the supermarkets, department stores, bus stops, or gas stations, it's just a matter of waiting your turn. In a larger sense, "wait your turn" is more than just a guideline — it is a very basic rule that reflects the fundamental value of the western cultures. But in some situations your turn does not always come based on when you get there and how long you have waited in line, just like my case at the store. Even though this did not often happen, it did make me feel upset.(1)What happened to the author at the store?A.He was ill-treated by a customer.B.He wasn't served upon his order.C.He was asked to be served later.D.He was asked to do others a favor.(2)What does the underlined word "this" in the last paragraph refer to?A.His belief.B.His culture.C.His experience.D.His rule.(3)Why did the author write the text?A.To emphasize his kindness to others.B.To introduce some western cultures to us.C.To express his belief and his feeling.D.To show his disbelief in Queuing Rule.【答案】(1)B(2)C(3)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者在买螃蟹时排队很久,受到不公平待遇的经历,借此表现了西方文化的特点——要遵守次序,同时也表明了作者的感受和建议。

I hurried up during this process. One day, however, while at a party, I heard an artist friend telling everybody that his idea came while he was having a shower. “What about you?” he asked, “Don't you get your creative thoughts from the same place?”“I'm in and out in a hurry,” I told him proudly. “I have no time to waste!”“What a pity,” he said. “That's the place where you need to slow down; plenty of great thoughts come from there!” I tried it out. I am Riffat Monaf, and I will be your geography teacher.” Riffat Monaf, an interesting name and an even more interesting person. Her introduction took place about six years ago, and since then I have never met a more influential person in my life.Mrs Monaf not only conquered me with her vast knowledge of geography, but also won me over with her smile and warm eyes. It was in her class that I traveled to the highest mountains and to the deepest seas from the comfort of the classroom. She has been one of the most consistently good things in my life.Currently, she is fighting a battle against breast cancer, and it pains me to know that after all she has done for me; I can do nothing for her except pray. To eat only a vegan(素食的) diet might sound difficult, especially with many popular dishes containing meat or other animal products. Yet in 2017, veganism was described as “the fastest - growing lifestyle movement” in the UK, according to BBC news.A study by a UK market research organization, suggests that over 542,000 Brits went vegan during the previous decade, an increase of 360%. And the main force behind this increase was those aged 15-34 years old — 42% of recent vegans fall under that age range. So why exactly has veganism become so popular among young Brits? One reason could be that many young people want to protect the environment, as less meat consumption is known to be beneficial to the environment. Global meat manufacturing is believed to cause 18% of the world's greenhouse gas emissions(排放), even more than that of all the world's cars, trains and planes combined. Another reason is that many of today's young people believe that it's wrong to kill animals to be used as food.Jess Murray, 22, a student at University College London, said that he chose to become vegan after realizing that eating animals is a choice that people make, rather than something that we need to do to survive. “Becoming vegan was an ethica l (道德的) decision,” he told the Guardian. Social media is also believed to have given rise to the increase in veganism. Platforms such as Facebook allow young vegans to connect with each other much easier, while others such as Instagram have led to the creation of “vegan celebrities (名人)”, who share lips on vegan lifestyles. Despite the rising of veganism, Laura Wyness, an expert in diet and nutrition, said that meat is very important for people's health. “A strict vegan diet makes it difficult to ge t some minerals and vitamins that your body needs,” Wyness told BBC news. However, the popularity of veganism doesn't seem to be fading. “It feels more like this is something that is sticking.” said an expert of the Vegan Society, a UK charity that pro motes veganism.(1)What can we learn about veganism, “the fastest-growing lifestyle movement” in UK?A. It has created many popular dishes.B. It is backed up mainly by old people.C. It has led to further market research.D. It has grown steeply in the past 10 years.(2)The following may account for the increase in veganism EXCEPT .A. Young people prefer an environment-friendly life.B. But making time to get outside in the sun, even when it's cold out, could have bigger mood benefits than you might realize. While the link between sunshine and mental health is nothing new, new research from Brigham Young University(BYU) has shown that the association may be even stronger than previously realized. It finds that sunlight exposure is by far the greatest weather-related factor determining mental health outcomes. In other words: more sunshine, more happiness. For the study, a psychologist, a physicist and a statistician from BYU teamed up to compare daily environmental data from the university's Physics and Astronomy Weather Station with emotional health data archived by day for 16,452 adult therapy patients who were being treated at the BYU Counseling and Psychological Services Center.Exposure to sunlight is a significant factor in seasonal affective disorder. Research has shown that the brain produces more of the feel-good neurotransmitter serotonin on sunny days than it does on darker days. What's more, lack of sunlight is linked with lower vitamin D levels, which in turn has been correlated with depression and low energy. If you're getting enough sun, your emotions should remain relatively stable, the researchers found. But as the amount of sunlight in the day is reduced, levels of emotional pain can soar. Other weather variables including temperature, pollution and rain were not found to have an impact on mental health."We were surprised that many of the weather and pollution variables we included in the study were not significantly correlated with clients' scores on the distress measure once we had accounted for suntime," Dr. Mark Beecher, a professor of psychology at the university and the study's lead author, told The Huffington Post. "People tend to associate rainy days, pollution, and other meteorological phenomena with sadness or depression, but we did not find that."(1)What does the author suggest we do in Paragraph 1?A.Realized the benefits of sunshine.B.Avoid hibernating in springtime.C.Curl up in a blanket in cold weather.D.Enjoy sunshine even in cold weather.(2)The underlined word "soar" in Paragraph 5 most probably means " "?A.Rise sharply.B.Vary unstably.C.Drop slightly.D.Change greatly.(3)What does the passage say about the research done by BYU?A.It is done on normal adults of various ages.B.It is carried out by Dr Mark Beecher alone.C.It concludes the sunshine means happiness.D.It finds that temperature affects mental health.(4)What can be inferred from the passage?A.Lower vitamin D levels are helpful in keeping us energeticB.The research findings are inconsistent with the popular belief.C.The more sunshine we get, the less excited we are likely to feel.D.The link between sunshine and mental health was unknown before.【答案】(1)D(2)A(3)C(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,研究表明:阳光照射是影响心理健康结果的最重要的天气因素。

In return, Del Oro was allowed to throw large amounts of waste in the form of orange peels (皮) on a 3-hectare piece of land within the national park at no cost. Dealing with tons of leftover peels usually involved burning them or paying to have them poured into a landfill, so the proposal was very attractive. But a year later, another juice company challenged the deal in court, arguing that their competitor was “polluting a national park”. They ended up winning, and the deal between Del Oro and the national park fell through. Then in 2013, while discussing possible research avenues with Timothy Treuer, Daniel Janzen mentioned the orange story. Feeling interested, Treuer decided to stop by that piece of land that had been covered with fruit waste 15 years earlier. What he found shocked him.“While I would walk over exposed rock and dead grass in the nearby fields, I'd have to climb through undergrowth and cut paths through walls of vines (藤) in the orange peel site itself.” said Timothy Treuer.Treuer and his team spent months picking up samples (样品), analyzing and comparing them. They found great differences between the areas covered with orange peels and those that were not. The area with orange waste had richer soil. The effect that the orange peels had on the land is probably not that surprising to people familiar with composting (施肥), but what is really shocking is that a judge actually thought the waste of orange “mined” a national park and stopped it from going forward. Now that Timothy Treuer's study has received worldwide a ttention, this type of “ruining” is being seriously considered as a way of bringing forests back to life.(1)What did Del Oro usually do with orange peels?A. Add them to fuel.B. Throw them into a national park.C. Bum or bury them.D. Make them into cakes.(2)What can we know about the deal between Del Oro and the national park?A. It lasted 15 years.B. It was signed by Treuer.C. It was made in about 1998.D. It was broken by Del Oro.(3)What was Treuer's finding?A. Orange peels contain much fibre.B. Orange peels can make soil richer.C. Orange peels rot away in a short time.D. Orange waste ruined the national park.(4)What is the author's attitude toward the judge mentioned in the last paragraph? A. Disapproving. B. Positive. C. Worried.

He told his brother: "Receive this scholar and treat him well!Don't say a word to him,and everything will be OK."The monk left the temple. Upon returning, he went to meet his guest."Did my brother receive you properly?" asked the monk."You brother is outstanding. He's a great theologian!" exclaimed the theologian with great enthusiasm."What do you mean? My brother---a theologian?" stuttered(结巴地说)the surprised monk."We had a passionate conversation," replied the scholar." We communicated professionally by means of gestures. I showed him one finger and he replied by showing me two. Logically, I answered with three fingers and then he astonished me by raising a closed fist, ending the debate. With one finger, I implied the unity of Buddha. With two fingers, he expanded my point of view by reminding me that Buddha was inseparable from his theory. Delighted by the reply, with three fingers I expressed: Buddha and his theory in the world. Then he suggested a wonderful response, showing me his fist: Buddha, his theory and the world, all together as one whole. "A little later, the monk went to look for his one-eyed brother."So how did it go earlier with the theologian?" he asked."Very simple," said the brother. "He made fun of me; he show me one finger emphasizing that I have but one eye. Not wanting to fall into the conflict, I showed that he was fortunate enough to have two eyes. They did not make me happy, however, as this was the day I was to be thrown into school for the first time."Why school?" I asked my father. "What have I done?""I'm not punishing you," he said, laughing. "School's not a punishment. It's a place that makes useful men out of boys.

Two of the saddest words in the English language are "if only". I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regret, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment. My father is famous in our family for saying, "Take the extra minute to do it right." I always try to live by the "extra minute" rule. When my children were young and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an "if only" moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter, or something that required a little more work such as taping padding (衬垫) onto the sharp corners of a glass coffee table.I don't only avoid those "if only" moments when it comes to safety. It's equally important to avoid "if only" in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say "I love you" or "I forgive you." When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday, I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn't be here. But then I thought about the fact that he's 84 years old and I realized that I shouldn't give up an opportunity to see him. I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all.I know there will still be occasions when I have to say "if only" about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection, I know that I'm doing the right thing. I'm buying myself peace of mind and that's the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being.(1)Which of the following is an example of the "extra minute" rule?A.Start the car the moment everyone is seated.B.Leave the room for a minute with the iron working.C.Wait for an extra minute so that the steak tastes better.D.Move an object out of the way before it trips someone.(2)The author decided to go to her office on Good Friday to ______.A.keep her appointment with the eye doctorB.meet her father who was already an old manC.join in the holiday celebration of the companyD.finish her work before the deadline approached(3)The underlined word "foregone" in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ______.A.abandonedckedC.avoidedD.taken(4)What is the best title for the passage?A.To Keep Emotional Well-beingB.To Prevent "If Only" MomentsC.To Follow the Most Useful RuleD.To Achieve the Peace of Mind【答案】(1)D(2)B(3)A(4)B【解析】【分析】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文,作者认为英语中最悲伤的两个词语是"if only",因为他们表达了遗憾。

What does the author say in…?According to the passage, where / when / why / how / who…?What is the reason for…?Which of the following is (NOT) true?Which of the following is (NOT) mentioned? The writer mentioned all of the following EXCEPT…2.

What does the author think about…?What can be inferred / concluded from…?What do you think…according to the passage?According to the writer, which of the following is right?3.

What does the writer mean by saying “…”?What does the word / phrase“…”in Paragraph…mean?Which of the following can replace the word / phrase “…”in Paragraph…?From the passage we can infer that the word / phrase “…”is…4.

The title of this passage should be…Which of the following can be the title of this passage? What is the main idea of this passage? What does the writer mainly tell us in this passage?5.

What is the opinion of the writer in this passage? What is the writer’s attitude towards…?What does the writer think…?What is the purpose of the writer in this passage?

Father questioned his daughter where she was heading when he saw her

He is unable to get here today理解为“他今天到这里时残疾了”就大错特错了。

She gave me an interesting book yesterday, which is written by E.E.

I didn’t know English If I had been told about this, I wouldn’t have done such a foolish thing

He must have gone to bed, for the lights in his house are all off 中的must 只能是表示推测,说明自己一个人的看法;而在She is very rebellious. When her father tells her to do something in this way, she must do it in another way 中,must 又表示“于说话人愿望相反和不耐烦”,意思是“偏要,偏偏”。

如:no more than 意为“仅,只”,相当于only;not more than 意为“至多”,相当于at most;在“a most + adj. / adv. + n.”
