They need to developstrategies to compensate for their relative lack of resources and theirreputation of inferior quality. The larger Chinese firms now have the abilityto provide high quality products at a lower cost than their WesternCounterparts. Competing abroad requires larger R&D investments, strongermarketing programs, more extensive sales organizations and sophisticated supplychain systems, as well as careful public relations. The biggest difficulty forChinese firms investing abroad is to determine who is going to own thecommercial networks, how to develop efficient distribution schemes andsuccessful brands, and how to master human resources policies in countries unfamiliarto them. To sustain their internationalization efforts, Chinese MNCs may try tobuild the necessary skills demanded by foreign markets through organic growthin a step-by-step approach, through alliance, or through the acquisition ofselected foreign companies. Companies such as Haier and Huawei decided to buildtheir own brands, which shows that, however difficult it may be, organic growthis not totally out of reach for Chinese MNCs. “Link-type” alliance are oftenseen as a more efficient way to get rapid access toforeign markets, whereasacquisitions to strengthen presence in foreign markets should consideralliances or joint-ventures because of their relative lack of knowledge of themarkets they aim at.R&D:research and development

Much of it revolves around Disney’s effort to create the illusion for visitors that they have entered a perfect world, which more closely conforms to their desires. It creates this “perfect world”in various ways. For example,it encourages visitors to see the park through the eyes of a child and definesitself as a place t hat “brings dreams of life.”But most essentially it creates a fictionalized version of a perfect world by inviting visitors to run away from reality so that they are no longer limited by time, distance, size and physical laws.In various attractions, visitors seem to float through the human body and through DNA;they travel to the past and future, and leave the earth. On the thrill rides(惊险娱乐项目),they resist gravity, moving at speeds and in ways that seem to violate what common sense tells them should be possible.Disney World also invites visitors to escape the fallen state of society and the self.It draws visitors into a world of endless celebration, full of parades and fireworks, with costumed performers and endless invitations to fun.The effect is not unlike participating in a 365-day-a-year holiday,in which negative emotions are discarded from life. When you pull all this together,it becomes obvious that Disney World offers visitors the fictionalized realization of humanity’s deepest dream:transcendence(超越).In Disney World,we transcend the mundane(世俗).In place of the world we normally find ourselves in,in which most opportunities are closed to us and most human motives are concealed,we go on a journey through symbolic worlds that are objective and material, but seemingly as weightless, carefree and fantastic as the imagination.2.Translate the following text into English.(60 points)中国2010年上海世界博览会于5月1日至10月31日举行,吸引了200多个国家和国际组织参展,参观者累计7000多万人次。

Reading Comprehension (30 point s,2 points each)Read the following three passages, and choose the correct answer from the four choices given and then write it on the Answer Sheet.(1)Which is safer-staying at home, traveling to work on public transport, or working in the office? Surprisingly, each of these carries the same risk, which is very low. However, what about flying compared to working in the chemical industry? Unfortunately, the former is 65 times riskier than the latter! In fact, the accident rate of workers in the chemical industry is less than that of almost any of human activity, and almost as safe as staying at home. The trouble with the chemical industry is that when things go wrong they often cause death to those living nearby. It is this which makes chemical accidents so newsworthy. Fortunately, they are extremely rare. The most famous ones happened at Texas City (1947), Flixborough (1974), Seveso (1976), Pemex (1984) and Bhopal (1984).Some of these are always in the minds of the people even though the loss of life was small. Noone died at Seveso, and only 28 workers at Flixborough. The worst accident of all was Bhopal, where up to 3,000 were killed. The Texas City explosion of fertilizer killed 552.The Pemex fire ata storage plant for natural gas in the suburbs of Mexico City took 542 lives, just a month before the unfortunate event at Bhopal. Some experts have discussed these accidents and used each accident to illustrate a particular danger. Thus the T exas City explosion was caused by tons of ammonium nitrate(硝酸铵),which is safe unless stored in great quantity. The Flixborough fireball was the fault of management, which took risks to keep production going during essential repairs. The Seveso accident shows what happens if the local authorities lack knowledge of the danger on their doorstep. When the poisonous gas drifted over the town, local leaders were incapable of taking effective action. The Pemex fire was made worse by an overloaded site in an overcrowded suburb. The fire set off a chain reaction os exploding storage tanks. Yet, by a miracle, the two largest tanks did not explode. Had these caught fire, then 3,000 strong rescue team and fire fighters would all have died.11.Which of the following statements is true?A. Working at the office is safer than staying at home.B. Traverlling to work on public transport is safer than working at the office.C. Staying at home is safer than working in the chemical industry.D. Working in the chemical industry is safer than traveling by air.12.Chemical accidents are usually important enough to be reported as news becauseA. they are very rareB. they often cause loss of lifeC. they always occur in big citiesD. they arouse the interest of all the readers13.According to passage, the chemical accident that caused by the fault of management happened atA. Texas cityB. FlixboroughC. SevesoD. Mexico City14.From the passage we know that ammonium nitrate is a kind ofA. natural gas, which can easily catch fireB. fertilizer, which can't be stored in a great quantityC. poisonous substance, which can't be used in overcrowded areasD. fuel, which is stored in large tanks15. From the discussion among some experts we may conclude thatA. to avoid any accidents we should not repair the facilities in chemical industryB. the local authorities should not be concerned with the production of the chemical industryC. all these accidents could have been avoided or controlled if effective measure had been takenD. natural gas stored in very large tanks is always safe(2)Open up most fashion magazines and you will see incredibly thin models with impossible hair and wearing unreasonably expensive, impracticably styled clothes. But shouldn't clothes be comfortably durable and make a principle of being simple for the individual who wears them? Whyare we constantly told that we need to buy new clothes and add fresh pieces to our collection?Fashions change year after year so lots of people can make piles of money. If folks are convinced that they need a different look each season, that this year's sweater's length and shoes style are important, they can be persuaded to buy. The fashion industry would have you ignore your shortcomings and just make you feel beautiful and happy. In fact it is not only a phenomenon we can find in people's dressing.Fashion controls our lives. Fashion controls what we wear, what we eat, what we drink, the way we cut our hair, the makeup We buy and use, the color of the cars we drive. Fashion even controls our ideas. You don't believe me? How many. Of your friends are vegetarians? Why are they vegetarians? Because it is fashionable!Where does fashion come from? Often the reasons are quite logical. Scientists and historians study the fashions of the past and discover the secrets of each fashion. When girls see an attractive guy, their blood pressure rises and their lips become redder. That's why guys think that girls wearing lipstick are beautiful. Why do guys shave their heads? In the past soldiers shaved their heads to kill the insects that lived in their hair. Now guys shave their heads so that they look strong and masculine, like soldiers.People spend a lot of time and money on fashion. But are they wasting their money?Changes in fashion help to develop new technologies. Changes in style create work for people all over the world. Many people work in the fashion industry, particularly in the fashion capitals of London, New York, Paris and Milan. And finally, fashion makes you feel good, doesn't it? Whenyou are dressed in the latest style, dancing to the most fashionable music, after watching the latest hit film, you feel great, don't you.16.What's the author's viewpoint about the models and their hairstyles and clothes?A. Unbiased.B. Indifferent.C. Critical.D. Appreciative.17.It is indicated by the author that clothes should beA. comfortable and durable.B. new and fresh.C. expensive and fashionable.D. simple and unique18.The fashion industry makes profits byA. selling the products at high prices.B. creating a need in you.C. helping you get rid of your shortcomings.D. making you look more beautiful.19.The author thinks what has been found about fashions by the scientists and the historians isA. incredible.B. amazing.C. reasonable.D. creative.20.The passage mentions the advantages of fashion EXCEPT thatA.it can help promote technological development.B.it enables people to remain up-to-date.C.it can create more job opportunities for people.D.it can make people achieve a great feeling.(3)This year, like lots of other people, I'm going to try to make my own Christmas presents. It's not the first time that I've promised myself this. Being a milliner, and an al-round crafty type, I've often thought I should put my money where my mouth is. But this year I'm really going to stick to it. It's partly that I'm short of cash, but also that I've recently returned from an inspiring trip around Britain, looking into "make do and mend" for BBC2's Newsnight.I dreamed up the trip a few months ago. The thought of traveling the country--making things as I went, meeting artists and craftspeople--sounded like the perfect way to spend the summer. I'd pack a tent and a sewing machine and off I'd go. But by the time I finalized my plans and hit the road, leaves were already crunching under foot. It seemed crazy to camp with winter on the way; instead, Newsnight viewers offered me board and lodging in return for help with a craft task. There was an overwhelming response. My tasks ranged from darning a moth-eaten monk's jumper to making trousers for a stilt walker. Textile students in Harpenden offered to pay for my petrol in return for a talk about hats. In Derby, Amy needed help to transform an old pair of curtains.I was really struck by people's growing enthusiasm for making things. I asked a WI group in Sheffield how many could sew, and only a few put up their hands. But when I asked who wanted to learn, nearly everyone responded positively. At the Textile Workshop in Nottingham, the number of classes on offer has doubled in a year, and a knitting club in Leeds is growing bythe week.Craft is definitely fashionable at the moment. But over and above fashion, we' re learning to appreciate effort and quality again. Perhaps once people rediscover the pleasure to be gained from making something unique, it may stick.Sue Pilchard is curator of quilts at the V& amp; A, where next spring she'll be putting on the museum's first major quilting exhibition. Sue believes the return to crafting is wrapped up in how we are redefining ourselves." There's certainly a movement., towards a new domesticity. People, especially women, are starting to think about the way they live their lives. It's 40 years since the first women's liberation conference was held in Oxford. Since that time we've been in the workplace, and we've had the opportunity of choice. Now we' re deliberately choosing to go back into the home."Whether you agree with that or not, there's something about Christmas that brings out the artistic streak in everyone. Whether it's baking mince pies or decking the halls, we' re all prepared to have a go. So if you fancy pushing the boat out and making a few presents, try these really simple ideas, each inspired by my recent journey. They make ideal stocking fillers or small gifts, and take no longer than 30 minutes each. Play some carols, settle down with a steaming cup of cocoa, and forget the cold. You'll save yourself a bit of money and spread a little bit of love too!21.

I want to share with all of you one of my most valuable experience during my childhood years, exactly the time in my primary school. Patriotism, once stipulated in historic books of anti-fedualism and anti-empirism,has been a hot topic recent days, particularly triggered by hypocratic statement by western media based on their twisted observation. So patriotism should be rational in order to keep us well-behaved.

郑州大学2020年硕士研究生入学试题翻译硕士英语(211)(回忆版)I.20道词义辨析题(20’)1.the___of the internetconvenient/advent/interface/aftermath2.胳膊伤好了,死于后来的___complement/compliment/complexion/complicationugh off/put off/pay off/lay off4.a very___expressionassured/assuring/reassuring/reassured5.resultant/utter/resourceful/eternal6.blossom/.../.../...7.8.call off/.../.../...II. Passage oneAre smart people just naturally attracted to study art or perform music, dance,or drama?Or does early education in the arts actually cause changes in the brain that develop important components of cognition?Recent findings show that there may be some significant causal relationships between arts training and the brain's ability to learn. The Dana Foundation,an organization with interests in neuroscience, immunology, and arts education, just released a three-year study that found that early training in the arts is possibly good for your brain.Neuroscientists and psychologists at several universities have now enhanced understanding of just how the arts might improve thinking, memory, and language skills.Music education is linked with the ability to control both short-term and long-term memory, geometric representation, and development of reading skills.Dance training improves thinking through mimicry and acting classes seem to expand language.Visual arts lessons outside the classroom during childhood are linked to improved math calculations;in retrospect,I wish I had more art lessons before I took on that advanced math class in high school. It's not a new idea that the arts can make us smarter. The notion caught fire in the 1990s when researchers showed that college students did better on certain math tests after listening to a little bit of Mozart. And while the current report from the DanaFoundation did not provide definitive theories as to how arts make us smarter, what it does do is end the popular notion that people are either right-or left-brain learners. Apparently artists and scientists are not that fundamentally different and perhaps there is even an underlying connection between the cognitive processes that give rise to both arts and sciences.21.At the beginning of the passage, two questions are raised to explore the relation between______.A.early education and the futureB.intelligence and emotional quotientC.art training and cognitive developmentD.the human brain and its cognitive components22.(选项不确定)From music education to dance training to visual arts lessons, the researchers found that______.A.early training in the arts improved certain cognitive skillsB.early education in the arts enhanced the learning by heartC.art training was widely conducted during childhoodD.the artistic education took many forms for children23.What can be inferred about the author’s art lessons during childhood?A.Proficient.B.Deficient.0.Popular.D.Various.24.According to the passage, the current findings______.A.present the working mechanism of the right and left brainsB.challenge the popular division of right-or left-brain learnersC.reveal the fundamental differences between artists and scientistsD.interpret the different cognitive processes in scientists and artists25.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A.Brainy ArtB.Learning ArtC.Arts TrainingD.Cognitive Science(选项不确定) (有关art training&cognition之类的)Passage twoBullying can take a variety of forms, from the verbal to the physical as well as indirect forms, such as being excluded from social groups.Bullying is clearly unpleasant, and can make the child experiencing it feel unworthy and depressed. In extreme cases it can even lead to suicide, though this is thankfully rare.Until recently, not much was known about the topic, and little help was available to teachers to deal with bullying.Perhaps as a consequence, schools would often deny the problem."There is no bullying at this school'has been a common answer if asked, almost certainly untrue.Fortunately more schools are now saying:“There is not much bullying here, but when it occurs we have a clear policy for dealing with it.”Three factors are involved in this change.First is an awareness of the severity of the problem.Second,a number of resources to help tackle bullying have become available in Britain. For example, the Scottish Council for Research in Education produced a package of materials,Action Against Bullying, circulated toall schools in England and Wales as well as in Scotland. In Ireland,Guidelines on Countering Bullying Behaviour in Post-Primary Schools was published, too.Third, there is evidence that these materials work, and that schools can achieve something. Evidence suggests that a key step is to develop a policy on bullying, saying clearly what bullying means, and giving explicit guidelines on what will be done if it occurs, what records will be kept, who will be informed and what punishments will be employed. The policy should be developed through consultation over a period of time. Pupils, parents and staff should feel they have been involved in the policy.Other actions can be taken to back up the policy. There are ways of dealing with the topic through the curriculum, using video, drama and literature. But curriculum work alone may only have short-term effects;it should be an addition to policy work. There are also ways of working with individual pupils,or in small groups.Work in the playground is important, too. One helpful step is to train lunchtime supervisors to distinguish bullying from playful fighting, and help them break up conflicts.Another possibility is to improve the playground environment,so that pupils are less likely to be led into bullying from boredom or frustration. With these developments, schools can expect that at least the most serious kinds of bullying can largely be prevented. The more effort is put in and the wider the whole school is involved, the more substantial the results are likely to be.The reduction in bullying and the consequent improvement in pupil happiness is surely a worthwhile objective.(不确定)26.A recent survey found that in British secondary schools______.A there was more bullying than had previously been the case.B there was less bullying than in primary schools.C cases of persistent bullying were very common.D indirect forms of bullying were particularly difficult to deal with.(不确定)27.Children who are bullied______.A are twice as likely to commit suicide as the average person.B find it more difficult to relate to adults.C are less likely to be violent in later life.D may have difficulty forming relationships in later life.(不确定)28.The writer thinks that the declaration'There is no bullying at this school' ______.A is no longer true in many schools.B was not in fact made by many schools.C reflected the school's lack of concern.D reflected a lack of knowledge and resources.29.What were the findings of research carried out in Norway?A Bullying declined by50%after an anti-bullying campaign.B Twenty-one schools reduced bullying as a result of an anti-bullying campaign.C Two years is the optimum length for an anti-bullying campaign.D Bullying is a less serious problem in Norway than in the UK.30.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the passage?A.Bullying:what parents can doB.Bullying:are the schools to blame?C.Bullying:the link with academic failureD.Bullying:from no way out to preventionIII. 还有一句记不清了,最后是让结合结合自己的经验例子谈一下这个问题(看待?&解决?)Over-reliance on modern technology means that people are failing to learn,or are forgetting, many basic skills.(不少于300字)。

This attitude has not changed. (5*6)In general, our society is becoming one of the giant enterprises directed by a bureaucratic management in which man becomes a small well-oiled cog in the machinery. The oiling is done with higher wages,well-ventilated factories and piped music, and by psychologists and “human relations”experts; yet all this oiling does not alter the fact that man has become powerless, that he is bored with it. In fact, the blue-collar and the white-collar workers have become economic puppets who dance to the tune of automated machines and bureaucratic management. The worker and employee are anxious not only because they might find themselves out of a job, they are anxious also because they are unable to acquire any real satisfaction of interest in life. They live and die without ever having confronted the fundamental realities of human existence as emotionally and intellectually independent and productivehuman beings. Those higher up on the social ladder are no less anxious. Their lives are no less empty than those of their subordinates. They are even more insecure in some respects. They are in a highly competitive race. To be promoted or to fall behind is not a matter of salary but even more a matter of self-respect. When they apply for their first job, they are tested for intelligence as well as for the right mixture of submissiveness and independence. From that moment on they are tested again and again by the psychologists, for whom testing is a big business, and by their superiors, who judge their behavior, sociability, capacity to get along, etc. This constant need to prove that one is as good as or better than one's fellow competitor creates constant anxiety and stress, the very causes of unhappiness and illness.Am I suggesting that we should return to the pre-industrial mode of production or to nineteenth century“free enterprise”capitalism? Certainly not. Problems are never solved by returning to a stage which one has already outgrown. I suggest transforming our social system from a bureaucratically managed industrialism in which maximal production and consumption are ends in themselves into a humanist industrialism in which man and full development of his potentialities—those of all love and of reason—are the aims of social arrangements. Production and consumption should serve only as means to this end,and should beprevented from ruling man.
