翻译二级笔译综合能力分类模拟题4Ⅰ Vocabulary and GrammarPart 1 Correcting Grammatical ErrorsDirections: In each of the(江南博哥) following statements there is an underlined part that is indicated as an error. Choose the word or phrase that can replace the underlined part so that the error is corrected. The Internet originated on American soil. In 1969, the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the US Defense Department established the world's first testing packet-switched network (PSN) to connect four universities on US soil. The world saw a remarkable expansion of the scale and number of Internet users from the late 1970s to the early 1980s. In September 1989, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was founded with a grant from the US Department of Commence to administer the Internet terminal server. Over the past 40 years, the US has been dominating the world Internet as the core technique holder with an inherent advantage of being the cradle of the Internet. There are 13 terminal servers in the world to keep the Internet run 1 , with a master server and nine of the 12second 2 servers stationed in the US. In terms of technique, the network of a country will disappear from the world Internet if its domain name registry is blocked or deleted from the terminal server. This kind of conduct is not legallybinded 3 with the law of any country except ICANN. InApril 2004, Libya was seen 4 on the Internet for three days after the collapse of the domain name registry of the country "LY" caused by a domain administration dispute.Concerns about the US monopoly of the domain name server (DNS) system grew among other nations as much as their reliance on the Internet for issues ranging 5 politics and the economy to defense and the general society. Years ago, there was a proposal that the Internet is 6 administered by the United Nations or under international cooperation. The European Union insisted that the World Wide Web was 7 an international resource that should be jointly managed by all nations. Some developing countries pointed to 8 that at the early stage of Internet development, developed countries seized large amounts of domain names, leaving alimited few for them, and demanded a share with the US over Internet administration. American officials opposed to 9 the suggestion. The US Defense Strategy Review in March 2005 stated that Internet space should have the same prioritywith 10 continental, marine, aerial and outer space jurisdictions for the US to maintain a decisive superiority. A statement from Washington on June 30, 2005, made it clear that the US government would maintain its control on 11 the DNS indefinitely; stating that a transfer of its management to UN or international cooperative models would impede the free flow of information, leading 12 to easy manipulation of the Internet and make global supervision more difficult. At the same time, the US Congress passed a bill by a vote of 423 to zero urged 13 a manifesto by the White House that American control over Internet is inviolable. US Rep. John Taylor Doolittle, a Republican from California, said the United States invented the Internet and described 14 as a gift to the world based on American taxpayers' money. He said he opposed any move to transfer the country's control to the UN.The control of the Internet plays astrategical 15 role for US. Using the internet, the US can intercept information via the net, export US values and opinions, support a " Color Revolution", feed theoppositing 16 powers and rebels against anti-US governments, interfere 17 other countries' internalaffairs and make proactive attacks on enemy's communication and directing networks. James-Adams, a famous military forecaster, wrote 18 his book, The Next World War, these words: "The computer is the weapon for the future war and there is no virtual front line, while 19 the traditional battle and the byte will take the bullet's role to grab control of the air."US President Barack Obama repeatly 20 stressed the importance of the Internet during his campaign. He asked the relevant departments to assess the security of the American network, and to prepare 21 the implementation of information hegemony to continue the work of controlling the new generation of Internet Root Servers. The assessment report released by the US government on May29, 2009, said that cyberspace threats have become one of the most serious economic and military threats facing by 22 the United States. The report emphasized that the US must show the world they were seriously responding to the challenge. Against this background, Microsoft announced the closure of MSN services for Cuba, Iran, Syria, Sudan and the DPRK. But the world opinionconsiders 23 as information sanction instead of meeting a challenge.1.正确答案:run→running2.正确答案:second→secondary3.正确答案:binded→binding4.正确答案:seen→unseen5.正确答案:ranging→ranging from6.正确答案:is→be7.正确答案:was→is8.正确答案:9.正确答案:to→to去掉10. 正确答案:by→by去掉23.正确答案:considers→后面加thisⅡ Cloze TestDirections: In the following two passages, there are 15 blanks in each passage representing the words that are missing from the contexts. Like the PC on your desk, your mind is equipped with twobasic types of memory: "working memory" for juggling information inthe present moment, and "long-term memory" for storing it over extended periods. Contrary to popular wisdom, our brains don't record everything that happens to us and then bury it until a hypnotist or a therapist helps us dredge it up. Most of what we perceive hoversbriefly in working memory, a mental play space akin to a computer's RAM, then simply evaporates. Working memory enables you to perform simple calculations in your head or retain phone numbers long enoughto dial them. And like RAM, it lets you analyze and invent things without creating a lasting record.Long-term memory acts more like a hard drive, physically recording past experiences in the brain region known as cerebral cortex. The cortex, or outer layer of the brain, houses a thicket of 10 billion vine—like nerve cells, which communicate by relaying chemical and electrical impulses. We can will things into long-term memory simply by rehearsing them. But the decision to store ordiscard a piece of information rarely involves any conscious thought. It's usually handled automatically by the hippocampus, a small, two-winged structure nestled deep in the center of the brain. Like thekey-board on your computer, the hippocampus serves as a kind of switching station. As neurons out in the cortex receive sensory information. They relay it to the hippocampus. If the hippocampus responds, the sensory neurons start forming a durable network. But without that act of consent, the experience vanishes forever.By storing only the information we're most likely to use, our brains make the world manageable. Perfect retention may sound like a godsend, but when the hippocampus gets overly permissive, the results can be devastating. At the other end of the spectrum stands impairments of the memory, which can be caused by brain surgery aswell as normal aging. Other memory busters include depression, anxiety and a simple lack of stimulation—all of which keep us from paying full attention to our surroundings. What, then, are the best ways to protect your memory? Obviously, anyone concerned aboutstaying sharp should make a point of sleeping enough and managing stress. And because the brain is at the mercy of the circulatory system, a heart-healthy lifestyle may have cognitive benefits as well.1. Their calm in the midst of that economic storm reflected their forward-looking approach to the business—an approach that became the hallmark of Procter & Gamble.Later, they pioneered one of the nation's first profit-sharing programs and were among the first in American industry to invest in a research laboratory. By 1890, the fledgfing partnership between Procter and Gamble had grown into a multinational corporation. Nevertheless, P & G still had its eyes on the future. At that time, P & G was selling more than 30 different types of soap, including Ivory. Fueled by innovative advertising, including full color print ads in national magazines, consumers' demand for P & G soaps continued to grow. To meet this increasing demand, the Company began expanding its operations outside Cincinnati. Its research laboratory was as busy as its plants. Innovative new products were rolled out one after another—Ivory Flakes, a soap in flake form for washing clothes and dishes; Chipso, the first soap designed for washing machines; Dreft, the first household synthetic detergent—and the first all vegetable shortening that changed the way America cooked, Crisco. In 1945, P & G had become a nearly $350 million company. Its products were popular throughout the United States and Canada—and the Company had taken its first step toward developing an overseas business, with the acquisition of Thomas Hedley & Co., Ltd., in England. In 1946, P & G introduced Tide, its most important new product since Ivory. Tide was remarkably superior to other products on the market, and it quickly became an enormous success—so successful, infact, that it helped fund the Company's rapid growth not just into new product lines but also into new markets around the world.Today, Procter & Gamble is a truly global corporation. Since 1980, the company has quadrupled the number of consumers it can serve with its brands—about five billion people around the world. P & G now has operations in more than 80 countries and its products are sold in over 140 countries, making P & G one of the biggest and most successful consumer goods companies in the world.6. The accomplishment of P & G that make them stand out against their counterparts is largely due to ______.A.their future-oriented vision.B.their power to compete.C.the quality of their products.D.their harmonious cooperation.正确答案:A7. What elements are crucial to the sustained development of P & G?A.Vision, research and hard working.B.Wise investment, research laboratory and enough capital.C.Vision, profit-sharing programs and research.D.Vision, laboratory research and innovation.正确答案:D8. The phrase "the fledgling partnership" means that ______.A.very experienced business bodies work together.B.inexperienced but thriving business bodies work together.C.powerful business sectors work hand in hand.D.successful business lines make joined effort.正确答案:B9. What is more remarkable about the great success of P & G is that ______.A.they have not only turned out more varieties, but also placed much more emphasis on advertising their products.B.they have given much heed to their overseas development and placed much emphasis on advertising.C.they never stop turning out new products, nor do they stay satisfied.D.they have not only placed much emphasis on research and innovation but also keep eyes on the markets both at home and abroad.正确答案:D。

In every society, some punishments or negative sanctions are established for deviant behavior. Without deviant behavior there would not be need for social control and without social control there would not be a way of recognizing the boundary between the acceptable and the unacceptable.Social control may be either formal or informal. Informalmechanisms include expressions of disapproval by significant others and withholding of positive rewards for disapproved behavior. Most people internalize norms in the course of socialization. This is any group' s most powerful protection against deviance, in that the individual J s own conscience operates as an agent of social control. When informal sanctions fail, formal agents of social control may be called upon. In contemporary society, such formal agents and agencies include psychiatry and other mental health professions; mental hospitals; police and courts of law; prisons; and social welfare agencies. All these formal agents function to limit, correct, and control violation of norms. Conflict theorists would also point out that social control agents and systems tend, in any society, to serve the interests of powerful groups and to enforce the norms most beneficial to those who make the rules and who, therefore, define unacceptable behavior.Social control, whether formal or informal, has a dual function. First, it punishes the wrongdoer and reaffirms the boundaries of acceptable behavior. Second, and less recognized, it regulates the manner in which deviants are treated.1.Social control refers to processes by which.A.norms are developedB.norms are enforcedC.people are educated and trainedD.people are rewarded and punished2.Every society has its own.A.planned systemsB.controlled normsC.recognized boundaryD.established sanctionsrmal mechanisms of social control include the following EXCEPT.A. a high level of interest in ensuring conformityB.expression of disapproval by significant othersC.withholding of positive rewards for the deviantsD.people' s internalization of norms in socialization4.The most powerful protection against deviance is.A.negative sanctionsB.severe punishmentsC.the individuaT s conscienceD.unrestrained suppression5.Formal agents of social control include the following EXCEPTA.police stationsB.mental hospitalsC.welfare agenciesD.vocational schools6.The purpose of formal agents is to.A.make beneficial rulesB.preserve social ordersC.control violation of normsD.define acceptable behavior7.Which statement about social control agents is NOT true?A.They tend to serve the interest of those who enforce the norms.B.They tend to serve the interest of those who receive a benefit.C.They tend to serve the interest of those who make the rules.D.They tend to serve the interest of those who are powerful.8.According to conflict theorists, social control agents and systems are.A.liberalB.partialC.neutralD.overall9.In the third paragraph, u a dual function n refers to.A.formal and informalB.rewards and penalitiesC.approval and disapprovalD.clarification and regulation10.The perspective from which the author discusses social control is.A. biologicalB. sociologicalC. psychologicalD. anthropological参考答案:1-5 BADCD 6-10 CBBDB维护世界和平,促进共同发展,谋求合作共赢,是各国人民的共同愿望,也是不可抗拒的当今时代潮流。

口译二级综合能力(篇章听力理解与选择)模拟试卷4(题后含答案及解析)题型有:1. 4 million tons of carbon dioxide that previously would have been released into the air. Rather than building an entirely new facility, the Petra Novo project will apply carbon capture technology to an existing coal-fired power plant —helping to advance the technologies that help enable cleaner energy production from fossil energy resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Houston-area project was awarded $ 167 million from the U. S. Department of Energy to capture emissions from 60 megawatts of generation. Project sponsor NRG Energy Inc. and JX Nippon decided they could quadrupled the size of the project —expanding the design to capture the emissions from 240 megawatts of generation —with no additional federal funding. When completed, the project has the potential to capture the same amount of CO2 each year as taking 250, 000 cars off the road. Using a process previously tested in a three-year pilot scale test in Alabama, the project will capture up to 90 percent of CO2 from the power plant. The captured carbon dioxide will then be compressed, dried and transported to an oil field where it will be used to recover previously unreachable oil —a process known as Enhanced Oil Recovery or EOR.1.What is the function of carbon capture technology?A.Replacing coal-fired power plant.B.Reusing fossil energy resources.C.Capturing carbon dioxide from the air.D.Making existing energy production cleaner.正确答案:D解析:原文指出捕碳技术将化石能源产生的二氧化碳捕获,使其更加清洁。

英语翻译二级笔译实务模拟试题及答案解析(4)

英语翻译二级笔译实务模拟试题及答案解析(4)(1/2)Section ⅠEnglish-Chinese TranslationTranslate the following two passages into Chinese.Part A Compulsory Translation第1题If a heavy reliance on fossil fuels makes a country a climate ogre, then Denmark—with its thousands of wind turbines sprinkled on the coastlines and at sea—is living a happy fairy tale. Viewed from the United States or Asia, Denmark is an environmental role model. The country is "what a global warming solution looks like," wrote Frances Beinecke, the president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, in a letter to the group last autumn. About one-fifth of the country's electricity comes from wind, which wind experts say is the highest proportion of any country. But a closer look shows that Denmark is a far cry from a clean-energy paradise. The building of wind turbines has virtually ground to a halt since subsidies were cut back. Meanwhile, compared with others in the European Union, Danes remain above-average emitters of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. For all its wind turbines, a large proportion of the rest of Denmark's power is generated by plants that burn imported coal. The Danish experience shows how difficult it can be for countries grown rich on fossil fuels to switch to renewable energy sources like wind power. Among the hurdles are fluctuating political priorities, the high cost of putting new turbines offshore, concern about public acceptance of large wind turbines and the volatility of the wind itself."Europe has really led the way," said Alex Klein, a senior analyst with Emerging Energy Research, a consulting firm with offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Some parts of western Denmark derive 100 percent of their peak needs from wind if the breeze is up. Germany and Spain generate more power in absolute terms, but in those countries wind still accounts for a far smaller proportion of the electricity generated. The average for all 27 European Union countries is 3 percent. But the Germans and the Spanish are catching up as Denmark slows down. Of the thousands of megawatts of wind power added last year around the world, only 8 megawatts were installed in Denmark. If higher subsidies had been maintained, he said, Denmark could now be generating close to one-third—rather than one-fifth—of its electricity from windmills.下一题(2/2)Section ⅠEnglish-Chinese TranslationTranslate the following two passages into Chinese.Part A Compulsory Translation第2题This week and next, governments, international agencies and nongovernmental organizations are gathering in Mexico City at the World Water Forum to discuss the legacy of global Mulhollandism in water—and to chart a new course. They could hardly have chosen a better location. Water is being pumped out of the aquifer on which Mexico City stands at twice the rate of replenishment. The result: the city is subsiding at the rate of about half a meter every decade. You can see the consequences in the cracked cathedrals, the tilting Palace of Arts and the broken water and sewerage pipes.Every region of the world has its own variant of the water crisis story. The mining ofgroundwaters for irrigation has lowered the water table in parts of India and Pakistan by 30 meters in the past three decades. As water goes down, the cost of pumping goes up, undermining the livelihoods of poor farmers. What is driving the global water crisis? Physical availability is part of the problem. Unlike oil or coal, water is an infinitely renewable resource, but it is available in a finite quantity. With water use increasing at twice the rate of population growth, the amount available per person is shrinking—especially in some of the poorest countries.Challenging as physical scarcity may be in some countries, the real problems in water go deeper. The 20th-century model for water management was based on a simple idea: that water is an infinitely available free resource to be exploited, dammed or diverted without reference to scarcity or sustainability.Across the world, water-based ecological systems—rivers, lakes and watersheds—have been taken beyond the frontiers of ecological sustainability by policy makers who have turned a blind eye to the consequences of over-exploitation.We need a new model of water management for the 21st century. What does that mean? For starters, we have to stop using water like there's no tomorrow—and that means using it more efficiently at levels that do not destroy our environment. The buzz-phrase at the Mexico Water forum is "integrated water resource management." What it means is that governments need to manage the private demand of different users and manage this precious resource in the public interest.上一题下一题(1/2)Section ⅡChinese-English TranslationThis section consists of two parts, Part A—"Compulsory Translation" and Part B— "Choice of Two Translations" consisting of two sections "Topic 1" and "Topic 2". Bank balances are suddenly reported to have jumped from $379 into the millions, appeals for charitable contributionsare mailed over and over to people with crazy sounding names at your address, department stores send the wrong bills, utility companies write that they're turning everything off, that sort of thing. If you manage to get in touch with someone and complain, you then get instantaneously typed, guilty letters from the same computer, saying, "Our computer was in error, and an adjustment is being made in your account."These are supposed to be the sheerest, blindest accidents. Mistakes are not believed to be the normal behavior of a good machine. If things go wrong, it must be a personal, human error, the result of fingering, tampering a button getting stuck, someone hitting the wrong key. The computer, at its normal best, is infallible.I wonder whether this can be true. After all, the whole point of computers is that they represent an extension of the human brain, vastly improved upon but nonetheless human, superhuman maybe. A good computer can think clearly and quickly enough to beat you at chess, and some of them have even been programmed to write obscure verse. They can do anything we can do, and more besides. It is not yet known whether a computer has its own consciousness, and it would be hard to find out about this. When you walk into one of those great halls now built for the huge machines, and standing listening, it is easy to imagine that the faint, distant noises are the sound of thinking, and the turning of the spools gives them the look of wild creatures rolling their eyes in the effort to concentrate, choking with information. But real thinking, and dreaming, are other matters. On the other hand, the evidence of something like an unconscious, equivalent to ours, are all around, in every mail. As extensions of the human brain, they have been constructed the same property of error, spontaneous, uncontrolled, and rich in possibilities.51. The title of the writing "To Err Is Human" implies thatA. making mistakes is confined only to human beings.B. every human being cannot avoid making mistakes.C. all human beings are always making mistakes.D. every human being is born to make bad mistakes.52. The first paragraph implies thatA. computer errors are so obvious that one can hardly prevent it from happening.B. the computer is so capable of making errors that none of them is avoidable.C. computers make such errors as miscalculation and inaccurate reporting.D. Computers can't think so their errors are natural and unavoidable.53. The author uses his hypothesis that "computers represents an extension of the human brain" in order to indicate thatA. human beings are not infallible, nor are computers.B. computers are bound to make as many errors as human beings.C. errors made by computers can be avoided the same as human mistakes can be avoided.D. computers are made by human beings and so are their errors.54. The rhetoric the author employed in writing the third paragraph, especially the sentence "A good computer can think clearly and quickly enough to beat you at chess…" is usually referred to in writing asA. climaxB. personificationC. hyperboleD. onomatopoeia55. The author compared the faint and distant sound of the computer to the sound of thinking and regarded it as the product ofA. dreaming and thinkingB. some property of errorsC. consciousnessD. possibilitiesQuestions 56-60 are based on the following passage. The Frugal Gourmet Cooks Americanby Jeff SmithOur real American foods have come from our soil and have been used by many groups -- those who already lived here and those who have come here to live. The Native Americans already had developed an interesting cuisine using the abundant foods that were so prevalent. The influence that the English had upon our national eating habits is easy to see. They were a tough lot, those English, and they ate in a tough manner. They wiped their mouths on the tablecloth, if there happened to be one, and they ate until you would expect them to burst. European travelers to this country in those days were most often shocked by American eating habits, which included too much fat and too much salt and too much liquor. Not much has changed! And, the Revolutionists refused to use the fork since it marked them as Europeans. The fork was not absolutely common on the American dinner table until about the time of the Civil War, the 1860s. Those English were a tough lot.Other immigrant groups added their own touches to the preparation of our New World food products. The groups that came still have a special sense of self-identity through their ancestral heritage, but they see themselves as Americans. This special self-identity through your ancestors who came from other lands was supposed to disappear in this country. The term melting pot was first used in reference to America in the late 1700s, so this belief that we would all become the same has been with us for a long time. Thank goodness it has never worked. The various immigrant groups continue to add flavor to the pot, all right, but you can pick out the individual flavors easily. The largest ancestry group in America is the English. There are more people in America who claim to have come from English blood than there are in England. But is their food English Thanks be to God, it is not! It is American. The second largest group is the Germans, then the Irish, theAfro-Americans, the French, the Italians, the Scottish, and the Polish. The Mexican and American Indian groups are all smaller than any of the above, though they were the original cooks in this country.56. Which of the following statements is nearly identical in meaning with the sentence "they ate until you would expect them to burst" in the second paragraphA. You bet they would never stop to eat till they are full.B. What you can expect is that they would not stop eating unless there was no more food.C. The only thing you would expect is that they wouldn't stop eating till they had had enough of the food.D. the only thing is that they wouldn't stop eating till they felt sick.57. Which of the following statements is Not trueA. English people had bad table manners.B. American food was exclusively unique in its flavors and varieties.C. American diet contained a lot of fat, salt and liquor.D. Europeans were not at all accustomed to the American way of eating.58. The author's attitude towards the American food is thatA. American food is better than foods from other countries.B. American food is superior to European foods.C. the European food had helped enrich the flavors and varieties of the American foods.D. people from other countries could still identify from the American foods the food that was unique to their countries.59. Immigrant groups, when they got settled down in the United States, still have had their own sense of self-identity becauseA. their foods are easily identified among all the foods Americans eat.B. their foods stand out in sharp contrast to foods of other countries.C. they know pretty well what elements of the American food are of their own countries' origin.D. they know pretty well how their foods contribute to American cuisine.60. Which of the following statements is trueA. People from other cultures or nations start to lose their self-identity once they get settled down in America.B. The "melting pot" is supposed to melt all the foods but in reality it doesn't.C. The special sense of self-identity of people from other countries can't maintain once they become Americans.D. The "melting pot" finds it capable of melting all the food traditions into the American tradition.Questions 61-64 are based on the following passage."It's like being bitten to death by ducks." That's how one mother described her constant squabbles with her eleven-year-old daughter. And she's hardly alone in the experience. The arguments almost always involve mundane matters - taking out the garbage, coming home on time, cleaning up the bedroom. But despite its banality, this relentless bickering takes its adolescents - particularly mothers - report lower levels of life satisfaction, less marital happiness, andmore general distress than parents of younger children. Is this continual arguing necessaryFor the past two years, my students and I have been examining the day-to-day relationships of parents and young teenagers to learn how and why family ties change during the transition from childhood into adolescence. Repeatedly, I am struck by the fact that, despite considerable love between most teens and their parents, they can't help sparring. Even in the closest of families, parents and teenagers squabble and bicker surprisingly often - so often, in fact, that we hear impassioned recountings of these arguments in virtually every discussion we have with parents or teenagers. One of the most frequently heard phrases on our interview tapes is, "We usually get along but …"As psychologist Anne Petersen notes, the subject of parent-adolescent conflict has generated considerable controversy among researchers and clinicians. Until about twenty years ago, our views of such conflict were shaped by psychoanalytic clinicians and theorists, who argued that spite and revenge, passive aggressiveness and rebelliousness toward parents are all normal, even healthy, aspects of adolescence. But studies conducted during the 1970s on samples of average teenagers and their parents (rather than those who spent Wednesday afternoons on analysts' couches) challenged the view that family storm and stress was inevitable or pervasive. These surveys consistently showed that three-fourths of all teenagers and parents, here and abroad, feel quite close to each other and report getting along very well. Family relations appeared far more pacific than professionals and the public had believed.61. According to the passage, parents and teenagers are always at loggerheads with each other overA. the careless attitude of teenagers toward their parents' work pressure.B. who should take the lion's share of the housework.C. the finger-pointing attitude of the parents toward their children.D. disagreements on each other's behavioral patterns.62. The parents-children relationship changes from the relative positive to the relative negative whenA. the children reach 7 or 8 years of age.B. the children reach 13 or 14 years of age.C. the parents begin to have too many household responsibilities.D. the parents begin to feel there is too much burden in the house.63. Studies conducted during the 1970s on parents-children relationship indicated thatA. adolescence did not cause as much trouble as clinicians and theorists had stated.B. Children's aggressiveness and rebelliousness were growing.C. Children-parents relationship was declining.D. teenagers became even more abhorrent of their parents.64. The author's own discoveries from the day-to-day relationships of parents and young teenagers indicate thatA. storm and stress between the parents and the teenagers are normal.B. storm and conflicts are unavoidable.C. parents can never avoid the conflicts unless they love their children.D. parents' strictness lead to their children's disapproval of them.Questions 65-71 are based on the following passage.Questions of education are frequently discussed as if they bore no relation to the social system in which and for which the education is carried on. This is one of the commonest reasons for the unsatisfactoriness of the answers. It is only within a particular social system that a system of education has any meaning. If education today seems to deteriorate, if it seems to become more and more chaotic and meaningless, it is primarily because we have no settled and satisfactory arrangement of society, and because we have both vague and diverse opinions about the kind of society we want. Education is a subject which cannot be discussed in a void: our questions raise other questions, social, economic, financial, political. And the bearings are on more ultimate problems even than these: to know what we want in education we must know what we want in general, we must derive our theory of education from our philosophy of life. The problem turns out to be a religious problem. One might almost speak of a "crisis" of education. There are particular problems for each country, for each civilization, just as there are particular problems for each parent; but there is also a general problem for the whole of the civilized world, and for the uncivilized so far as it is being taught by its civilized superiors; a problem which may be as acute in Japan, in China or in India as in Britain or Europe or America. The progress (I do not mean extension) of education for several centuries has been from one aspect a drift, from another aspect a push; for it has tended to be。

(分数:20.00)__________________________________________________________________________________________ 正确答案:()解析:China is:·a country of time-honoured civilization;·a country having gone through many hardships;·a socialist country with Chinese characteri stics;·the world"s biggest developing country;·and one undergoing profound changes. This portrayal of China may be very concise, but it is very precise. China is the largest developing country. It is where heritage meets dynamism. In the past three decades China has been working very hard to deliver reform and development. With memories of all the hardships behind us but never forgotten, China is committed to its chosen path towards national rejuvenation. With those factors in mind, it is quite easy to understand the "China Dream".It is all about where China pictures itself in the future. It is fundamentally about prosperity and renewal of China as a nation and better lives for every Chinese. To get where the Chinese people are today, China has gone through more than its share of trials and tribulations. To be where the Chinese people want to be in the future, China has to be unwavering in the pursuit of its commitment. It is also important to understand what the China Dream is not:·It is not a Chinese version of "Manifest Destiny".·It is not a Chinese edition of "Pax Britannica".·It is not a military ambition to seek revenge on past injustices.·It is not a plan to lock in resources, markets or benefit at other"s expense. The "China Dream", being none of those, is born with peace, development, cooperation and mutual benefit written into its DNA.The "China Dream" is a concept with peace as its foundations. It is a conviction, which is muchlike air and sunshine, fundamentally existential but too often taken for granted. For the Chinese people, traumatic memories from foreign invasion and occupation make us value our peace and development today all the more. It is why China is such a champion of peace and opponent of war.Peace enables international cooperation and makes it possible for hard work to pay. That is how China has come this far during the past three decades. The "China Dream" is one of development, the wanting of which makes lasting peace untenable.2.在经济全球化背景下,亚洲各国的发展,不可能独善其身,也不应该是“零和博弈”,而是你中有我、我中有你的互利合作,能产生“一加一大于二”的叠加效应,甚至是“二乘二大于四”的乘数效应。

An undertaking aslarge as this, though wonderfully exhilarating, is not entered lightly. It demands an unflagging intellectual and physical vigour, a total immersion, which I had to be sure that I could sustain with pleasure;for instance, Ihad to put off researches that I had already begun; and I ought to explai-n what moved me to do so.There has been a deep change in the temper of science in thelast20 years: the focus of attention has shifted from the physical tothe life sciences. As a result, science is drawn more and more to the study of in-dividuality. But the interested spectator is hardly awareyet how far-reaching the effect is in changing the image of man that science moulds. Asa mathematician trained in physics, I too would have been unaware, had not a series of lucky chances taken me into the life sciences in middle age. I owe a debt for the good fortune that carried me into two seminal fields of science in one lifetime; and though I do not know to whom the debt is due, I conceived The Ascent of Man in gratitude to repay it.The invitation to me from the British Broadcasting Corporation was to present the development of science in a series of television programmes to match those of Lord Clark on Civilisation. Television isan admirable medium- for exposition in several ways: powerful and immediate to the eye, able to take the spectator bodily into the places and processes that are described, and conversational enough to make him conscious that what he witnesses are not events but the actions of people. The last of these merits is to my mind the most cogent, and it weighed most with me in agreeing to cast a personal biography of ideasin the form of television essays. The point is that knowledge in general and science in particular does not consist of abstract but of man-made ideas, all the way from its beginnings to its modern and idiosyncratic models. Therefore the underlying concepts that unlock nature must be shown to arise early and in the simplest cultures of man from his basic and specific faculties. And the development of science which joins them in more and more complex conjunctions must be seen to be equally human: discoveries are made by men, not merely by minds, so that they are aliveand charged with individuality. If television is not used to make these thoughts concrete, it is wasted.参考答案:不是因为我们害怕看到他会因失误而给他辉煌的生涯画上遗憾的一笔。

英语翻译二级口译实务模拟试题及答案解析(4)

英语翻译二级口译实务模拟试题及答案解析(4)(1/2)Part ⅠInterpret the following passages from English into Chinese. You will hear this signal to tell you when you start interpreting. Now let's begin.第1题下面你将听到一段有关非洲粮食安全问题的讲话。

I am pleased to welcome you to the United Nations for this first meeting of your contact group.Your focus on food security in Africa comes at a crucial time. The latest food crisis on the continent has brought home to us, more than ever before, the urgent need for a strategy to break the pattern of recurrent crises and bring about a Green Revolution in Africa. But achieving this will require radical approaches on multiple fronts.Africa has faced food crises in the past; it has faced deadly diseases; it has struggled to come to terms with governance challenges in states with limited capacity and resources. But rarely has the continent had to face the kind of intersecting challenges we see today. Today, Africa faces a deadly triad of related burdens —food insecurity, HIV/AIDS and an emaciated capacity to govern and provide services. We cannot freed viable solutions to the challenge of food security unless we address the challenges of AIDS and governance at the same time.Food insecurity in Africa has structural causes. Most African farmers farm small plots of land that do not produce enough to meet the needs of their families. The problem is compounded by the farmers´ lack of bargaining power and lack of access to land, finance and technology. This further weakens farmers´ability to withstand the impact of recurrent drought and the growing HIV/AIDS epidemic.Thirty million Africans now live with HIV, and the continent has borne the brunt of more than 20 million AIDS deaths worldwide. In some areas of Africa, more than 40 percent of the population is HIV-positive, and similar proportions are going hungry. The devastating impact of HIV/AIDS on food production —with seven million African farmers already dead -- is only too obvious. Infection rates are rising among African women. The latest figures show that women make up 58 percent of Africans already infected.Because of AIDS, skills and knowledge are dying out rather than being passed from one generation to the next. Both at the household level and the government level, resources are being diverted from food production to health care. In turn, food shortages fuel the disease, through malnutrition, poverty and inequality.Clearly, breaking this destructive cycle poses a huge challenge to governance. It will re- quire strong institutions, improved skills and innovative policies. But in an irony so typical of the age of AIDS, Africa´s ability to govern and to provide services is itself being stretched to breaking point by the disease. This interlocking set of issues facing Africa is far greater than the sum of its parts. Ad- dressing the issue I have raised requires a new, integrated response from both the Governments of Africa and the international community. It requires a shift from short-term approaches to a reassessment of our entire strategy for development — or, taking long-term measures even when addressing short-term emergencies.Ladies and gentlemen,The United Nations family is already joining forces to mount the coordinated effort needed. Ihope you will work across the board with us, and with the Governments of Africa, in developing the range of revolutionary approaches we need to tackle the deadly triad and break the pattern of food crises in Africa.I opened my remarks with a message of despair; let me close with one hope. Yes, this is an unprecedented set of challenges. But your presence here today tells me that we have unprecedented consensus on the need to confront them. Together, we must mobilize the political will to succeed.Thank you very much.下一题(2/2)Part ⅠInterpret the following passages from English into Chinese. I must congratulate theAssociation of University Presidents of China on its achievements since its establishment in 1997. [TONE]∥[TONE]It is the first association of its kind, and it will be a strong force for enhancing academic cooperationbetween Hong Kong and the mainland and between China and the world. I also applaud the Associationfor organising this meaningful event which draws together so many top brains from around the world. Thesynergy it generates will point the way for the development of the global tertiary education sector into thenext century. [TONE]∥[TONE]Today, whilst innovation and technology are the driving force of the world and fuel its engine, it is thepeople that make the engines work. We wish to see in our younger generation an all-round developmentcovering ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics. We wish to see in our younger generations theability to assimilate modern technology and ideas. [TONE]∥[TONE]We wish to see in our younger generation creativity, critical thinking and a global outlook. We wishto see in our younger generation a strength of character, a spirit of enterprise, the desire for continuousimprovement and the versatility to cope with the changing needs of our community. And we wish to see inour younger generation a sense of responsibility towards one´s own family, one´s own community, one´s owncountry and indeed the world. [TONE]∥[TONE]In Hong Kong we strongly believe education enables us to cultivate these noble qualities in our nextgeneration. Education also creates and expands the pool of talents to maintain Hong Kong´s economicdevelopment and international competitiveness. That is why education is always one of our top priorities and continues to be the single biggest item of the Government´s budget, accounting for 19% of our total public recurrent expenditure. Despite the economic downturn, public expenditure on education will have about 8%growth in real terms in this fiscal year. [TONE]∥[TONE]Our best universities are among the top ten in the region, and our best students are among the best in theworld. However, the success ofHong Kong lies in our flexibility to respond to changes and our determinationfor improvement. We have to inject new life into the whole education sector. To achieve this, we areundergoing major reforms in our education system, our examination system, our education regulators, ourschools, our teachers and, above all, ourattitude towards education. [TONE]∥[TONE]Education is a continuum. The inputs into the tertiary sector are the outputs from the school sector. Wehope that several years down the road, the tertiary sector is able to reap the benefits from our reforms in thebasic education sector which we are now embarking on. But universities cannot simply wait. They have toensure that their current outputs, that is, their graduates and their research work, meet the aspirations of thecommunity.
