When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice. What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them. When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

Missus Sommers one day found herself the unexpected owner of fifteen dollars. It seemed to her a very large amount of money. For a day or two,she walked around in a dreamy state as she thought about her choices. Her daughter Janie was wearing worn shoes and needed new ones. She would buy cloth for new shirts for the boys. Her daughter Mag should have another dress. And still there would be enough left for new stockings for her children. The idea about how to spend the dollars made her restless with excitement. On the day she planned to go shopping with the money, she ate a light meal---no!Between getting the children fed and the house cleaned, and preparing herself to go shopping, she forgot to eat at all! When she arrived at the large department store, she spotted a pile of silk stockings at the entrance. A sign nearby announced that they had been reduced in price. A young girl behind the counter asked her if she wished to examine the silky leg coverings. She smiled as if she had been asked to inspect diamond jewelry, and started to feel the soft, expensive items. Missus Sommers picked up a black pair and looked at them closely. Two red marks suddenly showed on her pale face. She looked up at the shop girl and said proudly,"Well, I will buy this pair.”Missus Sommers changed her cotton stockings for the new silk ones in the ladies' rest area. She had let herself be controlled by some machine-like force that directed her actions and freed her of responsibility. How good was the touch of the silk on her skin! Then she put her shoes back on and put her old stockings into her bag. Next, she went to the shoe department, where she tried on a pair of new boots. Her foot and ankle looked lovely. She could not believe that they were a part of herself.注意:1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;2.至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好:4.续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。

读后续写模拟训练题一、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
On a bright, warm July afternoon, Mac Hollan, a primary school teacher, was cycling from his home to Alaska with his friends. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled (骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. “Man, that's a big dog!” he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him.Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of hear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac's relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac's bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase (追赶).Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he’d be easy caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now. Paragraph 1:The car abruptly stopped in front of him._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2:A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived._______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________二、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

With shoulders shivering, her tears cannot help streaming down her face.

Be a story; Beyond a story.

Why? ”He cried to ask his mother,Lewis.Seeing Jayce was mad at God for making him that way,the poor mother felt it a huge dagger to her heart. What made her more sorrowfull was that she didn’t know what to do at that point and how to provide answers to her son’s questions which she could never find out herself. The white lie burst just like bubbles that day.A few weeks later, Lewis turned on the TV to a news story, where she was shocked to find out the answer. It was Trashaun,an eighth grader, that displayed positive energy from his head to his toe.The 14-year-old sunny boy performed his slam dunks(大灌篮)on the TV, who had been a hit on the Internet. However, like Jayce,he had missed most of his left arm since his childhood! “David, it’s time for breakfast,” Mrs. Motangi called. “There’s a birthday present for you to open.”David ran into the kitchen and saw a shiny new soccer ball on the table. He smiled and started jumping up and down with excitement. “Can I take the ball to school with me, please?” asked David. “Of course,” Mrs. Motangi said. “But you need to be careful with your first real soccer ball.”At school, David immediately put his soccer ball under his desk. During the morning lessons, he kept quietly tapping the ball with his foot to make sure it was still there. Finally, it was break time. David seized the ball and quickly ran outside. He kicked the ball skillfully across the field to a group of students.Soccer was David’s favorite sport. Since he had arrived in England and started school two months ago, he had played soccer every day during the break. Break was always his favorite time because he didn’t have to speak English, a language that was still fairly new to him. When he played soccer, he would forget that he felt like an outsider at this new school“Look!” called David. “I got a new soccer ball. We can use it for our game today.” The other students exchanged glances and just stared at David. These were the most words David had ever spoken to them.“We don’t need your ball,” said a tall boy, Jacob. “We already have one.” Jacob liked playing soccer but poorly. Jacob kicked David’s ball with all his strength. The ball soared over the school’s high fence, bounced once, and rolled to the back of a nearby house. “What a good kick!” screamed the other kids, jumping up and down and slapping Jacob on the back. David watched in horror as his cherished football went out of sight, tears coming to his eyes. What would his mother say?

Spotty Though it is one of the faded memories of my life today, there are times when I remember his face clearly, especially his eyes. As he had yellow spots on his eyes we called him Spotty. He would have been a stray (流浪) dog, until he came to me.I was seven years old. My dad had just got a new job in Nasik. We had moved into a rented house. It was raining very heavily on the day we moved. It was a cold dark night. We had our meal and went to sleep. Somehow in the midnight I heard some strange sounds outside the main door. I gathered courage and looked out through the window and I was really amused with what I saw outside. There was a small puppy lying on an old doormat which my mother had put outside the door. It was wet and trembling. At first it was difficult to see the little one. It was the yellow spots on its eyesthat made me realize its presence. It was trying to get under the doormat to avoid the cold air outside and it had managed toget in as I could see only its head outside the doormat. Was it sick or injured?I felt pity for the poor soul. I went in and came out with an old towel. I went near the innocent one and held it in my hand and wiped the puppy till he had become dry. I took him into my room and made a bed for him with a woolen blanket and a small pillow. He seemed very healthy and comfortable in his new bed as he went to sleep immediately. The next morning, everyone in the family came to know about the unusual guest “Shall wekeep him with us?" I questioned my mom.Like any other parents would, my parents first totally refused my idea but my sister and I convinced them to keep Spotty.Slowly Spotty got on with everyone and became one of the family members.参考范文Paragraph 1:One day, Spotty returned from his daily walk with a broken leg. He came to my room and sat near me. It was then that I saw his hind leg was injured and was bleeding. I called out my mother and she quickly tied a bandage around his leg and gave him food to eat. I was very upset. But the next day, Spotty was up to his usual pranks though he limped a bit. After this incident my relation with Spotty became more intense. I really admired him a lot for his courage. (82词)Paragraph 2:Almost a year later, one midnight we heard Spotty barking breathlessly. We came out and saw that he was barking continuously heading somewhere. Sooner Spotty became quiet. I patted him on his back and came inside. The next day morning, my heart skipped a beat when I didn’t see Spotty.I searched for him in every corner but he was nowhere. And this time he had gone and would never come back. I cried and waited for him. We waited for one long week. But there were no signs of him. Then one day my Dad got transferred to Mumbai. We shifted back to Mumbai. What would have happened to Spotty? Would he have died? These were the only questions in my mind, but they all remained unanswered forever. (118词)No.3(2021,01浙江)万圣节南瓜趣事Pumpkin (南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dad has a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have anadvantage-I carried an 85-pounder back last year. This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my mom filming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing my head inside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time. With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nose briefly prevented entry. Finally I managed to put my whole head into it, like a cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders. My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason helping to support its weight,I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulled hard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.参考范文Paragraph 1:I was stuck for five or six minutes though it felt much longer.Jason suggested using a knife to cut the pumpkin/ˈpʌmpkɪn/ open. I waved my hands wildly in protest at the plan. “Then you need to find a way of pulling yourself out.” My dad said in a calm, cool voice. His voice settled my nerves. I was conscious that my nose was acting as an impediment to my escape. With stretching out my face and biting into the pumpkin, I overcame the large obstacle and managed to pull my head out. A ripple of excitement ran through us but the first thing I saw was the camera. (100词)Paragraph 2:The video was posted online the Monday before Halloween. In the following week, the video went viral and was viewed over a million times. Mom was thrilled with greater astonishment. Rarely had a pumpkin’s video had so many hits as this one. Some viewers left messages describing the feelings while watching it, while others shared their own stories about Halloween. One message thanked us for “bringing her home”. The words brought warmth to my heart and tears to my eyes.I felt lucky to be a part of this playful yet loving family.(84词)No.4(2020,06浙江)给北极熊拍照One fall, my wife Elli and I had a single goal: to photograph polar bears. We were staying at a research camp outside "the polar bear capital of the world" --- the town of Churchill in Manitoba, Canada.Taking pictures of polar bears is amazing but also dangerous. Polar bears --- like all wild animals---should be photographed from a safe distance. When I'm face to face with a polar bear, I like it to be through a camera with a telephoto lens. But sometimes, that is easier said than done. This was one of those times. As Elli and I cooked dinner, a young male polar bear who was playing in a nearby lake sniffed, and smelled our garlic bread. The hungry bear followed his nose to our camp, which was surrounded by a high wire fence. He pulled and bit the wire. He stood on his back legs and pushed at the wooden fence posts.Terrified, Elli and I tried all the bear defense actions we knew. We yelled at the bear, hit pots hard, and fired blank shotgun shells into the air. Sometimes loud noises like these will scare bears off. Not this polar bear though---he just kept trying to tear down the fence with his massive paws (爪子).I radioed the camp manager for help. He told me a helicopter was on its way, but it would be 30 minutes before it arrived. Making the best of this close encounter(相遇),I took some pictures of the bear.Elli and I feared the fence wouldn't last through 30 more minutes of the bear's punishment. The camp manager suggested. I use pepper spray. The spray burns the bears' eyes, but doesn't hurt them. So I approached our uninvited guest slowly and, through the fence, sprayed him in the face. With an angry roar (吼叫),the bear ran to the lake to wash his eyes.参考范文Paragraph 1:A few minutes later, the bear came back. This time, we were so scared. He began to hit the fence hard with his head and claws, more violently than before. At last the bear tore a hole in the fence and put his head in. With Elli's help, I fought with the bear bravely. The bear opened his mouth and I grasped his fur, trying to push him away. The fight was getting fiercer and fiercer, and the bear was about to break into our camp.(78词)Paragraph 2:At the very moment, the helicopter arrived. We felt the great joy that came after fear. Elli and I got on the helicopter and we were finally safe. As we were lifted into the air, we saw the stubborn bear stop attacking and run away. When we got home and developed our pictures, we noticed this bear had broken a tooth. Like humans, polar bears can feel pain, have emotions and can be frightened. Elliand I learned a good lesson: watch out for a bear with a toothache. (82词)No.5(2021 年8省联考)我的车出故障,墨西哥一家人给予我帮助During this past year, I've had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn't bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK(千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw(锯子)from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man's hand, but he wouldn't take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.参考范文Paragraph 1:When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. I shook my head and said no, wondering why she asked such a question---was she going to treat me to lunch or something? “Wait a minute,” said the girl, and then she went back to the truck. After a few minutes, she came back with a paper bag. “Here are some Mexican snacks and you can have so me when you are hungry,” the girl smiled. I was so surprised and touched that words almost failed me. I just said a “WOW!” instead of a “Thank you!” when I took the bag.(94词)Paragraph 2:After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag. When I saw what was in the bag, I was overcome with a mixture of respect and gratefulness. In addition to the snacks, there was the $20 bill. What a kind and respectable family! They are a perfect example of what kindness really means. And I’m sure I will pay it forward. (52词)No.6(2021,04潍坊二模)David想送给家境贫寒的Jane一条围巾当做圣诞礼物I am a proud mother of three children, my last little one being delivered in the middle of this pandemic. She was born in August and her name is Aida.Shortly after having Aida, my mother-in-law Ann showed me something she learned from her friend's mother in an art class she attended weekly. She had showed me how to knit(编织)a scarf. She showed me stitches(针)and gave me her half done project.I spent a lot of time breastfeeding my sweet little girl, so I had some extra time to do something with my hands throughout the day. I enjoyed making the scarf so I purchased tons of yam(线) since it was winter. I wanted to make scarves for my three children as Christmas gifts. There was a new family that moved in down the street. The only daughter of the family was Jane, a shy girl, aged 14, the same age of my oldest son David. It seemed that she came from a financially disadvantaged family, for she always wore old clothes. Worse still, in such cold days, she had no more clothes to wear and trembled with cold.Due to the pandemic, society was thrown into crisis mode. Schools were closed, food supplies and deliveries were suspended and children were stuck at home. In such discouraging times, however, they became good companions, talking and playing at home or around the houses. It was dreadfully cold this winter. Every time David came back from outside, with red face, he always cried, “Mum, it is freezing outside! " Then, he came over to see whether I finished the scarf. I could tell how impatient he was to wear my scarf sooner! I had to speed the project to satisfy his expectation. But David comforted me saying he could wait a few days. What a kind and considerate boy he was! Then my great art project finally was accomplished on the morning ahead of Christmas. 参考范文Paragraph 1:I wrapped the scarf around David's neck. David's face lit up with joy. Stroking the scarf softly, David excitedly kissed me in the cheek, beaming at me“Thank you, Mum. Thi s is the best gift I have ever received.” Before I could say anything, he dashed out to join Jane with a spring in his step. I felt relieved and content as a mother, seeing David play happily outside, with the scarf sheltering him to brave the bone-chilling wind.Wearing a smile on my face, I continued my chores that morning. (84词)Paragraph 2:Later that day David came back saying Jane also deserved a scarf.Obviously, David noticed Jane could hardly bear the freezing weather with worn-out clothes. "Can I give this to Jane as aChristmas gift? " David ventured in a low voice. Smilingly, I nodded. Seeing David rush into Jane's house with the scarf in his hand, I felt a burst of pride. I was happy that both of them received the best gift for Christmas. For Jane----a scarf to keep warm, and for David--- a taste of happiness of giving.(80词)No.7(2021,03潍坊一模)我和好姐妹Rishi有分歧,毕业后重归于好Our friendship runs back to our college days when I first met Rishi, We had our own share of first impression about each other. Mine was --- she's a lovely, charming and full of life personality. Hers was --- I look like an arrogant(傲慢的) personality. I don't blame her for this. Many of my close friends had the same view when they first met me. Blame it on my bitch face(臭脸)and me being a shy person to some extent. We became really close within a short period of time. Ours was group of four people divided into 2 each during our final year when we both chose advertising as our specialization and the other two chose journalism. Back then, I was a regular user of BBM messenger and hardly used Whatsapp. On one specific occasion, we had really bad argument about a failed project. The usual blame game was on. We decided to put it past us and focus on our studies. During this time, she once handed me her phone to show me a picture. While I was going through that, I came across a message from a particular Whatsapp group that comprises of her and my other two friends. I asked her permission to view the group. She had a blank expression on her face. But she allowed me to go ahead.I was in shock while going through their messages. Not really positive things were said about me in particular. It shook me. Because these were the people I considered my friends.1broke down in front of her. She apologised. But I felt cheated on. I told her about my decision of not wanting to continue this friendship further. We both missed each other. But neither of us wanted to give the last try.参考范文Paragraph 1:Then came the Rajasthan IV trip which was our official last trip.I hanged out with my other friends while she with the other two girls. I wasn't enjoying this trip at all, which she could make out. When she saw me approaching the common washroom, she followed me in and shut the door. I didn't know how to react. She gave me a tight hug and broke down. My tears were also out of control. We knew we both wanted to be in each other's company. We promised to grow mature and let it not affect our friendship.Paragraph 2:It's been almost 7 years after graduation since we picked up our friendship. She's one of the fewpeople I really count on in my life. She's been with me through all my struggles, helping me constantly to grow into a better individual. So have I. Actually, Jack was a good partner, quick-minded and no-panic in trouble. An adventure waited for us ahead. It was only a little after 12:00 o'clock and it couldn't hurt to go on a little exploration time. Could it?We didn't want to play games at home anyway so I asked Mum, "Can we go to Panisha Island to explore? ”“Oh alright! I guess i t’s only a short boat ride away. Be back by 5:00 o'clock!" Mum answered us.Thanked Mum and got on our blue bike. We got to the pier(码头)and bought a two-way ticket to Panisha and back. The sea air blew on our face like silk. I stared out into the sea. I must have stared for a while because soon I heard, “ PANISHA ISLAND”The moment we got off the boat, we were fascinated with everything around, the clear water, the blue skies, the singing of the birds. .. but we had no time to appreciate these. We impatiently rushed to what was called Tiger Jungle, surrounded by vast expanses of jungle with various puzzles and traps waiting for us to explore. Lizards, birds, and lots and lots of bugs... Suddenly a rabbit sprung out, staring at us. Seeing a snake winding its way in the bushes farther, I let out a scream! Jack smiled slyly (顽皮地)and commanded me to be calm.A tough passageway led us to natural pools, shallow waters with fishing spots, overgrow bushes and even a plane crash site. “Why not catch some fish here?”I excitedly suggested. Jack was hesitating when a roar(吼叫),like a true tiger, came out from the farther jungle! Jack thought hard and decided to get back quickly.参考范文Paragraph 1:Suddenly I missed a step and fell into the pool. I was extremely scared, struggling in the water. Seeing what had happened, Jack swiftly reached out his right hand, but unfortunately beyond my reach. Then he immediately picked up a stick from behind and gave the other end to me. However, thebank of the pool was too slippery and I was too scared to move.“Calm down! Grab at it firmly!" Jack encouraged in a loud voice. With his help and all my strength, I successfully got out.(80词)Paragraph 2:There was not much time left for the return trip. Afraid of missing the boat back, Jack dragged me to the pier in a hurry. Meanwhile, I was looking back once in a while for fear that a beast might catch us up. We managed to catch the return boat finally but I had not yet got over the scare. Frightened and tired as I was, I congratulated myself on returning safe and sound. My brother and I harvested a meaningful exploration and really spent a brand new weekend.(89词)No.9(2020潍坊二模)劫匪遇到强悍奶奶I received an urgent call from my aunt. " Turn on the TV. Granny's on the Channel 10 news. " It turned out that Granny had made a sandwich run for her office and was stopped at a red light downtown. She had the window rolled down to enjoy the breeze when a man rushed up to the driver's side window, intending to carjack (劫车)her. Now, what the would-be carjacker couldn't have known was that this woman simply wasn't " a granny" . This was Nancy Johnson — the same woman who owned and lived on a Texas cattle farm, drove her own tractors, and dug her own post holes to lay fence. The week before, she had shot a rattlesnake and chopped off its head with a shovel . She was the proud owner of the new minivan (小型货车)she was driving. In other words, she was not your normal kind of granny. The carjacker leaned into the open window, one hand stuffed in his pocket, and said, " Get out of this car. I have a gun, and I will shoot you.” A statement like th at would have terrified anyone else. Instead, Granny saw it as a challenge." If you really had a gun in your pocket, you would've pulled it out and led with that first," she shouted at him, apparently unworried. She was right. The criminal didn't have a gun. He instead reached into the window, grabbed her, and tried to pull her out of the van. He pulled open the door, wildly catching Granny's arms. Granny leaned her shoulder inside to press the horn (喇叭) and started yelling to make people around notice what was happening. With the door now open, she held tight the steering wheel with one arm and started kicking the man anywhere her foot could make contact. This tall woman had quite a reach.参考范文Paragraph 1:After a well-placed kick, the man was done, and attempted to release her and run. But Granny wouldn’t stand for that. It was now her turn to grab onto him, her hands made strong from hours and hours of farm work. That poor didn’t have a chance. She shouted for help to bystanders, and they rushed to her aid. With Granny leading the charge, a group of strangers came together and pinned(按住) the man to the sidewalk, holding him there until the police came. A silver-haired woman had just made a citizen's arrest.Paragraph 2:Later, we asked "Granny, don’t you realize you could have got yourself killed " Granny’s answer was surprisingly amusing and simple: “I wasn't scared of that little guy. I'd had my brand-new van for less than two days and a pack of good sandwiches for my office. And there was no way he was going to get either of those! " But we all learned an important lesson from her that day - the same lesson that had been building through the years. She encouraged us to push boundaries and expectations. But even more so, she taught us fearlessness.No.10(2020潍坊一模)我和我丈夫森林迷路,终获救,经历难忘Deep in the forest, my husband and I had climbing over and crawling under the downed trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill. When we noticed our jeans we re wet up to our knees, it did not dampen our spirits. Not once did we say, “let’s turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises. The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometer hike, yet we were already walking a long distance. Our lightheartedness stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a notional park that did not officially open for another.Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; In fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cell-phone signal in this isolated(偏僻的)area. It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road, and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me: the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life, I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet with a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.参考范文Paragraph 1:My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance. In no time did we find ourselves heading for it. We were filled with hope and excitement to find such a building in the middle of nowhere. We climbed up the hill at a swinging pace as if all the pains were gone. As we approached, a sign came into sight, which read: Administration Office. However, it was not open for business. The empty hall made us nervous all at once. We stood there hopelessly, wondering what to do next.Paragraph 2:。

It was summer, and my dad wanted to treat me to a vacation like never before. He decided to take me on a trip to the Wild West.We took a plane to Albuquerque, a big city in the state of New Mexico. We reached Albuquerque in the late afternoon. Uncle Paul,my dad’s friend, picked us up from the airport and drove us up to his farm in Pecos. His wife Tina cooked us a delicious dinner and we got to know his sons Ryan and Kyle. My dad and I spent the night in the guestroom of the farm house listening to the frogs and water rolling down the river nearby. Very early in the morning, Uncle Paul woke us up to have breakfast. "The day starts at dawn on my farm," he said. After breakfast, I went to help Aunt Tina feed the chickens, while my dad went with Uncle Paul to take the sheep out to graze (吃草). I was impressed to see my dad and Uncle Paul riding horses. They looked really cool.In the afternoon, I asked Uncle Paul if I could take a horse ride, and he said yes, as long as my dad went with me. I wasn’t going to take a horse ride by myself anyway. So, my dad and I put on our new cowboy hats, got on our horses, and headed slowly towards the mountains. "Don’t be late for supper," Uncle Paul cried, "and keep to the track so that you don’t get lost!" "OK!" my dad cried back. After a while Uncle Paul and his farm house were out of sight. It was so peaceful and quiet and the colors of the brown rocks, the deep green pine trees, and the late afternoon sun mixed to create a magic scene. It looked like a beautiful woven (编织的) blanket spread out upon the ground just for us.

Once, when I was a teenager, my father and I were standing in line to buy tickets for the circus. Finally, there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money.Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants, and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as could be. The mother was holding her husband’s hand, looking up at him as if to say, “You are my knight in shining armor.”He was smiling and responding in pride, looking back at her as if to say, “You got that right.” The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded, “Please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus.”The ticket lady gave the price. The man’s wife let go of his hand, her head dropped, and his lips began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, “How much did you say?”The ticket lady again quoted the price. The man didn’t have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus?Actually we were not wealthy in any sense. So I understand how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them.Paragraph 1Seeing what was going on,_______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________Paragraph 2That day my father and I went back to our car and drove home without any tickets._______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________二.

The tiny village of Sundial never seemed to get very cold. In the ten short years of his life, Andy had only ever seen snow on three occasions. Due to the extreme heat this year, the villagers of Sundial were rather surprised when a snowman walked down from the mountains and into their tiny village. The snowman wore a thick white coat and a large blue hat over his round head. The villagers stared at the man made of snow. "Is he a monster?" They whispered among themselves, afraid that he would attack them. The snowman, however, just wandered into the library, grabbed some books, and began reading.Andy, ever a curious boy, walked up to the snowman. "Why are you wearing such thick clothes? Are you cold?" The snowman shook his head. "Want to go play?" Andy asked. The snowman nodded and they spent the day running through the woods, playing hide-and-seek. As the sun set, the snowman waved goodbye to his little friend and left Sundial, passing by Andy’s home on his way back to the mountains.Andy’s father, the village head, saw the snowman when he looked out of the window at the setting sun. Cold sweat dripped down his face. The following Sunday, he gave the villagers a very different meeting. The next time the snowman came to the village, the people of Sundial were ready, armed with rocks and torches(火把). The strike was cruel. One of his coal eyes was knocked out, rolling down into the snowfield. As the snowman desperately tried to flee,Andy’s father struck him with a little torch, setting his coat on fire. The melting snowman rolled around, struggling to put out the blazing flames. As his melting body extinguished the flames, the snowman fled the village of Sundial."Let him go,"Andy’s father said. "If he’s smart, he won’t come back." Wrinkles of confusion spread across Holly ' s forehead as she unwrapped the gift from her best friend Susan. "I (I)thought you could use it for something." Susan's explanation did nothing to help usunderstand why a twelve-by-eighteen-inch dark blue carpet remnant (零料,布头)was being presented as a birthday gift.My heart went out to my daughter. Starting over at a new school had been a difficult adjustment. Until she met Susan , Holly had experienced little success making new friends. The whispered "thanks" was barely audible (听得见的) as Holly tried not to allow her disappointmentto show. She laid the carpet on the kitchen counter , and they headed outside to play. The extent ofHolly ' d s isappointment didn ' b t ecome evident until the following evening when she came downstairs to say good night. "Well , I guess we know how much my best friend thinks of me , huh, Mom ?" she said intears. "I ' m so sorry ,honey" was all I could manage to say.The next morning , I carried the kitchen rubbish outside. My heart sank as I lifted the lid of the trash can and saw Susan's carpet lying there. Hesitating only for a moment , I took it out and brought it into thehouse."Susan invited me to come over to her house tomorrow ," Holly announced as she arrived home fromschool a week later. Although her voice carried a so-what attitude , I sensed she was pleased by theinvitation. In spite of the number of times Susan had visited us , our invitations were never returned and itwould be the first time for Holly to go.The next day I drove Holly to the destination. A tall woman stood in the doorway to greet us. The house was shabby but neatly decorated with used furniture. From the chat with the woman we knew Susan had long been separated from her parents and that she was Susan's stepmother. A warm light shone in her eyes as she revealed to me her fondness for Susan. I came to respect this generous-hearted woman who had opened her home to a young girl and attempted to make a difference in her life.
