下⾯是整理的春节的两种说法及由来(英⽂版),欢迎阅读学习!!春节的两种说法: Chinese New Year Spring Festival春节(中国农历正⽉初⼀) 春节的由来 The Origin of Chinese New Year The Chinese New Year is now popularly known as the Spring Festival because it starts from the Begining of Spring (the first of the twenty-four terms in coodination with the changes of Nature). Its origin is too old to be traced. Several explanations are hanging around. All agree, however, that the word Nian, which in modern Chinese solely means year, was originally the name of a monster beast that started to prey on people the night before the beginning of a new year. One legend goes that the beast Nian had a very big mouth that would swallow a great many people with one bite. People were very scared. One day, an old man came to their rescue, offering to subdue Nian. To Nian he said, I hear say that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts of prey on earth instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents? So, it did swallow many of the beasts of prey on earth that also harrassed people and their domestic animals from time to time. After that, the old man disappeared riding the beast Nian. He turned out to be an immortal god. Now that Nian is gone and other beasts of prey are also scared into forests, people begin to enjoy their peaceful life. Before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare away Nian in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most. From then on, the tradition of observing the conquest of Nian is carried on from generation to generation. The term Guo Nian, which may mean Survive the Nian becomes today Celebrate the (New) Year as the word guo in Chinese having both the meaning of pass-over and observe. The custom of putting up red paper and firing fire-crackers to scare away Nian should it have a chance to run loose is still around. However, people today have long forgotten why they are doing all this, except that they feel the color and the sound add to the excitement of the celebration.。

5. Feast of the Spring FestivalFeast of the Spring Festival

Chinese New Year 和 Lunar New Year 这两个表示“春节”的说法,分别采用的是两种不同的视角维度。

Spring Festival: Unveiling the Cultural Tapestry of China. As the bustling metropolis of Shanghai transforms into a vibrant tapestry of scarlet and gold, the air thickens with the tantalizing aroma of traditional delicacies, heralding the arrival of China's most revered festival—Spring Festival, known colloquially as Chinese New Year in the West. This auspicious occasion, steeped in centuries of tradition and cultural significance, encapsulates the essence of Chinese identity and serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring bonds that unite families and communities. In the Western world, Spring Festival is often mistakenly referred to as Chinese New Year, a nomenclature that fails to capture the multifaceted nature of this grand celebration. While the festival does coincide with the Chinese New Year, marked by the start of the lunisolarcalendar, its observances extend far beyond the mere commencement of a new year.Traditional festivities commence with the onset of the Chinese New Year's Eve, a time for families to gather for a sumptuous reunion dinner, a culinary symphony of delectable dishes symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. This convivial feast is often accompanied by the exchange of red envelopes, known as "hongbao," containing auspicious amounts of money, a gesture that bestows blessings and well wishes upon recipients. In the days that follow, cities and villages across China erupt in a kaleidoscope of vibrant parades, lively lion and dragon dances, and deafening fireworks displays that illuminate the night sky, chasing away evil spirits and inviting good fortune. Each element of these performances carries profound cultural symbolism, invoking ancient myths and legends that have been passed down through generations. The Spring Festival is also a time for spiritualrenewal, with visits to temples and ancestral shrines becoming an integral part of the celebrations. Devotees offer prayers and make offerings to deities, seeking blessings for the year ahead. The festival also coincides with the Lantern Festival, held on the fifteenth day after the Chinese New Year, when people gather in parks and streets, releasing floating lanterns into the night sky as a symbol of letting go of the past and embracing the future with renewed hope. While the Spring Festival is predominantly a Chinese celebration, its influence has extended far beyond the borders of China, becoming a global phenomenon. In many countries around the world, Chinese communities organize grand parades and cultural events to commemorate the festival, sharing the joy and traditions of their heritage with the wider world.Three Common English Translations of Spring Festival. In the English-speaking world, there are three commonly used translations for Spring Festival:1. Lunar New Year. This translation is based on the festival's alignment with the Chinese lunisolar calendar, which is a combination of the solar and lunar calendars. The lunisolar calendar is used to determine the dates of important Chinese festivals, including Spring Festival.2. Chinese New Year. This translation is the most widely used in Western countries and is often used synonymously with Spring Festival. However, as mentioned earlier, this translation does not fully capture the broader cultural significance of the festival, which extends beyond the mere commencement of a new year.3. Spring Festival. This is the most accurate translation of the Chinese term "Chun Jie," as it directly refers to the celebrationof the arrival of spring, a season of renewal and rebirth in Chinese culture. This translation is gaining increasing popularity in English-speaking countries as it better reflects the true nature of the festival.Cultural Significance of Spring Festival. The Spring Festival is not merely a joyous celebration but also holds profound cultural significance for the Chinese people. It is a time to honor ancestors, strengthen family bonds, and usher in good fortune and prosperity for the year ahead. The festival's traditions and rituals have been passed down through generations, preserving the rich tapestry of Chinese culture and providing a sense of continuity and belonging. Moreover, the Spring Festival serves as a reminder of the importance of family and community in Chinese society. During this time, families make a conscious effort to reunite, often traveling great distances to gather under one roof. This emphasis on family reinforces the Confucian values that underpin Chinese culture and fosters a sense ofunity and cohesion within society.Conclusion.The Spring Festival, with its vibrant traditions, cultural significance, and global reach, is a testament to the enduring legacy of Chinese civilization. As the world continues to embrace diversity and cultural exchange, the Spring Festival has emerged as a symbol of unity, joy, and the celebration of human connections. Whether referred to as Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, this auspicious occasion remains a cherished tradition that continues to captivate hearts and minds around the globe.。
