President Barack Obama has called US congressional leaders to urge them to tackle the country’s budget deficit together following his re-election for a second term in office. Mr Obama faces the immediate challenge of getting both sides to agree budget reforms to avoid going over what’s been described as “the fiscal cliff”. From Washington, Jane Little.

The victory is sealed. Barack Obama has extended his place in history with a decisive win, but there’s little time to stop and celebrate. A di vided country has given him more time to fix a broken economy. It also ensured he must work with the Republican-controlled House again. The talk on both sides as it’s working together towards solutions, they need to find them quickly. A fiscal cliff of tax hikes and spending cuts is looming. If Washing ton fails to strike a deal, it’s likely to harm the very recovery Americans have been starting to believe in.胜利已是板上钉钉的事。

英语六级听力新题型模拟听写训练:第11套短文(1)Passage One文章一I'd like to tell you about my trip to Tanglewood's music festival. When I was in college, I won a music competition and the prize was a week at Tanglewood. Anyway it is one of the world's most famous music festivals and the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The festival is often held in the beautiful Berkshire Hills in New England. The summer musical season consists of about fifty concerts given over about nine weeks: from July 1st through the first week in September. Famous stars tend to show up here. The year I went I was lucky enough to see Leonard Bernstein conducting. I understand it is sometimes hard to get tickets but of course mine were a part of the prize. And I even get a front seat inside. You know, if you want to sit inside the tickets are expensive. It's much cheaper to sit outside on the lawn. But it might rain, or some nights are really cool even in the summer. Either way the sound system is excellent. So it doesn't really matter where you sit. I seem to recall that the festival got started in the 1930s. Some Berkshire residents invited a symphony orchestra to perform a few outdoor concerts. The concerts were sosuccessful that after a couple of years somebody donated a family estate as a permanent home. After that things really took off. And the festival is getting increasingly popular. Attending the festival was such a wonderful experience. I'd love to be able to go again. And I hope that all of you would be able to go too.我想跟你们讲讲我去唐格尔伍德音乐节的旅行。

湖北11校联考英语听力听力材料全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Today I wanted to tell you all about the English listening practice we've been doing to get ready for the big Hubei 11 School Joint Examination coming up soon. It's a really important test that all the 5th graders in my city have to take. The listening part is kind of tricky because we have to listen really carefully to recordings in English and answer questions about what we hear. At first it was hard for me to understand everything, but after practicing a lot I'm getting much better! My teacher Mrs. Wang has been using these really cool materials to help us prepare. One type of practice listening we do are conversations between two people. They'll be something like two friends making plans to go to the park, or a kid asking their mom for permission to have a sleepover. The conversations are easy to imagine happening in real life. After we listen, we have to answercomprehension questions like "What day are they going to the park?" or "What reasons篇2Hi! My name is Emily and I'm 10 years old. I go to Greenfield Elementary School and I'm in 5th grade. Today I want to tell you all about a really fun field trip my class went on last week!We went to a farm called Sunnydale Farms. It's a pretty big farm out in the countryside about an hour drive from our school. When we got there, the first thing I noticed was how fresh the air smelled! It was so clean and pure, not like the air in the city which can smell kind of gross sometimes. The farm had sooo many animals! As soon as we got off the bus, we could hear cows mooing, chickens clucking, and other animals making all kinds of sounds. Our tour guide Nancy introduced herself and showed us around the different parts of the farm.First we went to see the cows. Nancy told us they were dairy cows that produce milk. We got to watch while a few of the farmhands milked the cows using those big milk bucket machines. It was really cool to see where milk actually comesfrom before it gets packaged and sent to grocery stores. One of the cows even let me pet her! Her fur was really soft. After the cows, we went to the chicken coop. There were probably a hundred chickens in there, all clucking and walking around. Nancy said they lay over 200 eggs every single day! We even got to collect some eggs ourselves from their nests. I thought for sure I would drop and break them since they're so fragile, but I was really careful. The pigs were probably my favorite animals. They were SO cute and pudgy! Nancy let us feed them some slop from a bucket. At first the pigs were scared when we came up to their pen. But once they realized we had food, they came running over grunting and snorting with their little snouts going crazy. Their skin felt really rough and prickly when I petted them.We also got to see the horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, and even a couple llamas! Nancy taught us about what each animal is raised for - like horses are for riding, sheep are for wool, goats are for milk and meat, and rabbits are also for meat. She said the llamas don't really have a purpose, they just live on the farm as kind of mascots. For lunch, we had a delicious picnic out in the farm's big grassy field. We had sandwiches, baby carrots, applesauce, andmilk from the dairy cows we saw earlier! I thought that was really cool to drink milk that literally came from cows on that same farm. Everything tasted super fresh and yummy. After lunch, Nancy brought us to this cool spot called the Teaching Garden. It's a big garden area where the farm grows all kinds of fruits, veggies, and herbs. We picked strawberries, tomatoes, carrots, basil, and more! I had never picked my own fruits and vegetables before. I always just see them in plastic containers at the grocery store. It was hard work bending over to pick everything, but so satisfying. The last part of the field trip was definitely my favorite - we got to have a hayride! We all piled onto a tractor pulling a big flatbed trailer filled with hay bales. We rode around the whole farm, going past fields with cows and crops growing. The wind was blowing and it felt like my face was going to freeze off, but it was so exhilarating! Definitely the best hayride ever.On the bus ride back to school, I passed out from exhaustion after such a busy day. I had so much fun learning all about farm life and seeing where our food actually comes from. I'll never look at a glass of milk or some eggs the same way again! I'm so lucky my school planned such an awesome field trip. I'll remember Sunnydale Farms forever!篇3My Awesome Summer VacationHi friends! My name is Lucy and I'm 10 years old. I just got back from the best summer vacation ever and I can't wait to tell you all about it!It started off with my family taking a big road trip. We packed up our minivan with all our suitcases, pillows, blankets, snacks, and games for the drive. My little brother Tommy and I were so excited. We hadn't gone on a real vacation in over a year because of COVID. Finally we could go somewhere fun!The first stop on our road trip was to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins who live on a farm way out in the country. I love going there because they have so many cool animals. As soon as we arrived, my cousins Jessica and Sam took me out to the barn to see the new baby calves, piglets, and chicks they had. They were the cutest things ever! Jessica let me bottle feed one of the calves. It stretched its whole mouth open wide and guzzled down the milk super fast. Its rough little tongue was so funny tickling my hand. After visiting the barn animals, we went exploring in the woods and fields around their farm. Sam and Jessica know all thebest trails and secluded swimming holes. We went frog catching in the creek, picked wild blackberries that stained our fingers purple, and had a picnic lunch under a huge old oak tree. For dinner, my aunt cooked up the most delicious farm-fresh food - juicy grilled chicken, corn on the cob, homemade biscuits with fresh butter and jam. We stuffed ourselves like little piggies! The next morning it was time to say goodbye to the farm and continue on our road trip adventure. After lots more hours driving, we finally made it to our main destination - the beach! My family got a beachhouse rental right on the ocean in the cutest little beach town.Every morning we could hear the roaring waves and screeching seagulls from our windows. We'd race down to the beach as soon as we woke up to play in the salty water and hunt for seashells and shark teeth fossils in the sand. In the afternoons, the beach got so hot that we'd take a break at the pool or walk around the town to shop and get ice cream. My favorite part was the amazing seafood we got to eat - fish and chips, clam chowder, lobster rolls, shrimp tacos, you name it! My little brother Tommy couldn't get enough of the french fries and chicken nuggets from the beachside snack shacks though. On the fourth of July, the whole family went to watch the big fireworks show over the ocean. We spread out blankets and towels on the sand and made s'mores around the bonfire pit. Finally after the sun went down, the fireworks started exploding in the night sky over the waves. It was an unbelievable spectacle of bright colors and crashing booms! We oohed and ahhed at all the different shapes and patterns - smiley faces, galaxies, palm trees, and more. What a grand finale to our amazing beach vacation! After two wonderful weeks at the beach, we had to pack up and head for home again. The drive didn't feel as long this time since we were all tan, relaxed, and full of happy vacation memories to reminisce about. We listened to our favorite road trip playlists, stopped at fun roadside attractions like the World's Largest Truck Stop, and of course took plenty of silly family selfies along the way.Now that I'm back home, I'm already dreaming about next summer's big vacation plans. A dude ranch in the Old West? A cruise with waterslides and all-you-can-eat ice cream? An RV road trip to the national parks? No matter what we do, I know it'll be an adventure I'll never forget as long as my family's all together. Well, that's all for my summer vacation story. Thanksfor reading, friends! Let me know where you went on vacation or what was the most fun part of your summer.篇4Hi, my name is Emily and I'm in 5th grade. I absolutely love going to school and learning new things every day! My favorite subjects are science and English. I have the best teacher, Mrs. Thompson. She always makes lessons fun and engaging.Last week in science class, we learned all about the Solar System. Did you know that there are 8 planets that orbit around the Sun? I'll tell you their names in order from the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Mrs. Thompson showed us a really cool video about how the planets move in ellipses around the Sun. We also learned that Pluto isn't actually a planet anymore - it's now considered a "dwarf planet"!After the video, we did an experiment with tennis balls and marbles to understand why the planets have elliptical orbits instead of perfect circles. We tied the marbles to a string and swung them around our heads. The tighter we pulled the string, the more circular the orbit was. But when we loosened the string, the marble moved in an oval shape. It was so much fun!In English class, we've been reading the book Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. It's about a pig named Wilbur who gets saved by a super clever spider named Charlotte. Charlotte is able to spin words into her web like "Some Pig" and "Terrific" to convince the farmer not to kill Wilbur. My favorite character is probably Templeton the rat because he's always getting into funny situations when he's scavenging for food scraps.Just yesterday, our teacher had us act out different scenes from the book. I got to play the role of Charlotte which was really exciting! I made sound effects like "Salllllutations" whenever Charlotte was speaking from her web. My best friend Jacob played Wilbur and he did such a great job at oinking and snorting. We all had a blast. After we finished the book, Mrs. Thompson said we would get to go on a field trip to a local farm to see real pigs, cows, chickens and other animals! I've never been to a farm before so I can't wait. We're supposed to learn all about where our food comes from and how farmers take care of their livestock. I'll have to remember to wear my rubber boots because I've heard it can get pretty muddy.Outside of school, I really enjoy playing soccer and drawing pictures. Soccer helps me stay active and burn off all my energyfrom sitting at my desk all day. I'm not the best player on my team, but I have a lot of fun regardless. My favorite part is getting to spend time with my teammates. When I'm not playing soccer, I love to work on art projects. My bedroom walls are totally covered with my artwork! I especially like drawing animals, cartoons, and fantasy creatures like unicorns and dragons. Sometimes I'll spend hours just doodling in my sketchbook. My parents joke that I should become an artist when I grow up, but I'm not sure yet what I want to be. I change my mind all the time!Speaking of my parents, they are probably the coolest parents ever. Well, at least I think so! Every weekend, we go on fun adventures together as a family. A few weeks ago, we went hiking at a state park nearby. Even though the trails were pretty long, my parents kept me entertained the whole time by playing "I Spy" and seeing who could spot the most interesting plants and wildlife. My dad is a huge history buff, so whenever we're driving somewhere he'll point out old landmarks and buildings and tell me what they're all about. My mom is into science, so she's always explaining neat facts about nature, like how trees growtaller through photosynthesis. I feel like I'm learning new things from them every single day!Lately, they've been trying to get me more interested in cooking and helping out in the kitchen. Every Sunday, we'll look through recipe books or websites to pick out a fun dish to make together. Two weeks ago, we made homemade margherita pizzas from scratch. We had a little too much fun tossing the dough into the air! Last Sunday, we made chocolate lava cakes for dessert which were absolute heaven. I made such a mess while baking but it was worth it. Cooking is definitely not my strongest skill yet but I'm working on it.Well, I think that's about all the big updates from my life recently! School has kept me super busy as always. But I'm really looking forward to summer vacation which is right around the corner. My family is篇5My Summer Vacation AdventureHi there! My name is Lucy and I'm 10 years old. I just had the best summer vacation ever and I can't wait to tell you all about it!It all started when my parents told me and my little brother Charlie that we were going on a big trip. They didn't say where at first, just that it would be an adventure. Charlie and I tried to guess for weeks - maybe we were going to Disneyland or the beach or to visit our grandparents on the farm. Finally, the day came when we found out...we were going camping in the mountains!I had never been camping before, so I was really excited but also a little bit nervous. My mom and dad bought us all this cool camping gear though - a big tent, sleeping bags, flashlights, and backpacks to carry everything in. The day we left, we loaded it all up in the car along with a bunch of food, games, and books. It was a pretty long drive to get to the campground, but Charlie and I passed the time by looking out the windows at all the amazing scenery and playing I Spy and 20 Questions. When we finally arrived, I couldn't believe how beautiful it was! Tall trees and wildflowers everywhere, a sparkling blue lake, and mountains towering all around us. After pitching our tent, the first thing I wanted to do was go for a swim. The water was freezing cold at first, but it felt amazing once I got used to it. Charlie and I spent hours just splashing around having fun. That night, we all gathered around the campfire my dad built and roasted marshmallows for s'mores. Have you ever had as'more before? They're so sticky and gooey and delicious! While we ate our treats, my mom told us scary stories that made the woods seem extra spooky. I have to admit, I did get a little bit freaked out when I heard strange noises outside the tent later that night. But my dad just laughed and said it was probably a raccoon or squirrel rummaging around. We spent six whole days at that campground, and we stayed busy every single one. We went on amazing hikes to see rushing waterfalls and spot cool wildlife like deer and eagles. My brother and I had competitions to see who could skip rocks the farthest across the glassy lake. We played endless rounds of Go Fish and Old Maid when it got too hot outside. And we even went fishing one day and caught (and released) a bunch of tiny trout. My favorite part though, was stargazing at night. Since there were no city lights around, you could see a billion stars blanketing the inky black sky. My dad pointed out all the constellations he knew - Orion, the Big Dipper, Cassiopeia. One night there was even a meteor shower and we spotted at least a dozen shooting stars! I've never seen anything so magical in my life. All too soon, it was our last day at the campground. As we packed up our tents and coolers, I felt sad to be leaving our little piece of nature behind. But I also felt so lucky to have had such an awesome experience. Not every kid gets to go camping and commune with the great outdoors like that. It's a trip I'll never, ever forget. On the ride home, Charlie and I recounted all our favorite moments and picked out the millions of silly souvenirs we wanted to buy with our allowance money. We even started trying to convince our parents to make camping an annual family tradition. I really, really hope they say yes, because those six days were just the start - I have a feeling there are many more outdoor adventures awaiting us!Well, that's the story of my summer vacation! I know I'm lucky that my family is able to take trips like that. My friend Molly said she just stayed home all break and worked on her reading list for school. No offense to Molly, because I love reading too...but doesn't camping under the stars with your loved ones sound approximately one million times better? I sure think so!Anyway, I better go. Thanks for letting me ramble on about my big summer adventure! I hope you all had fun too, even if you just hung around your neighborhood or visited yourgrandparents. Every kid deserves to have an amazing summer full of laughter, exploration and making special memories. That's what being a kid is all about, right? See you next time!篇6The Big Listening ChallengeHi there! My name is Lily and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School. I'm super excited to tell you all about the crazy listening challenge my class just went through for the Hubei 11 School English Exam. It was definitely not easy, but we all tried our best!A few weeks ago, our English teacher Ms. Roberts told us that we'd be doing practice listening exercises to get ready for the big exam. At first, I wasn't too worried since we do listening activities all the time in class. But then she said these practice materials were going to be really tough since they were made for the joint exam. Suddenly, I got a few butterflies in my tummy! The first listening we did was a dialogue between two kids talking about their summer camping trip. The audio had all these weird outdoor words I'd never heard before like "marshmallows" and "hiking trails." Thank goodness they showed pictures so I could kind of guess what they meant. Even then, I missed acouple of the questions at the end. Uh oh, this wasn't going to be easy! The next audio was even harder - it was just one person giving instructions on how to make an origami frog. No pictures this time, just a bunch of unfamiliar vocab like "crease" and "diagonally." I could barely follow the steps at all. My friend Jack who sits next to me looked just as lost. We were both really struggling!Over the next couple weeks, the practice listening activities just kept getting harder and harder. One was about the rules of a game I'd never played before. Another was a nice lady giving a tour of her city, using all these super advanced adjectives to describe different buildings and parks. How were we supposed to know what words like "spectacular" and "awe-inspiring" meant?By the time the actual exam day rolled around, I have to admit I was feeling pretty nervous. What if I bombed the whole listening section and failed the test? All that hard work practicing for nothing! I took a few deep breaths to calm down before it started. You've got this Lily, I told myself. Just focus and do your best. The first listening passage played through my headphones, and I was relieved to hear it was about a topic I was familiar with - baking cupcakes! Okay, this one I could probably handle. I bubbled in the answers as best I could, double checking my work. Then the second passage began - two friends discussing their favorite books and movies. Yikes, entertainment vocab like "protagonist" and "fiction" and "genres." I concentrated hard, putting down any answers I was even a little bit sure of.Finally, the last passage began playing. It was someone giving a lecture about...dinosaurs? Cool! This was right up my alley since I love dinosaurs. I hurriedly wrote down everything I could understand about "fossil evidence" and the different time periods dinosaurs lived in. Yes! I was feeling pretty confident about this last part.At last, the listening section ended and we moved onto the rest of the exam. Phew, I was so glad that was over! Honestly, I had no idea how well I did overall. There were some parts that seemed okay, but other moments where I was just completely lost. I guess I'll find out my score soon enough.Either way, I'm really proud of myself and my classmates for pushing through and trying our hardest on this super challenging listening test. We all struggled at times, but we nevergave up. Who knows, maybe a few of those practice audios helped out in the end! Keeping my fingers crossed. So that's the full scoop on my wild experience with the Hubei 11 School English listening preparation. It was definitely an awesome way to get better at understanding spoken English, even if it was crazy difficult at times. I have so much respect now for the skills it takes to do well on tests like these. Shoutout to my teacher Ms. Roberts for getting us ready!I'm feeling pretty pumped to keep working on my listening abilities after this. Maybe I'll listen to some English podcasts for kids or try watching a movie with subtitles. With enough practice, I know I can get to that next level! That's the best way to get ready for whatever listening challenges middle school throws my way next.Alright, I should probably stop rambling now and let you go. Thanks for sticking with me through this epic tale of grit and determination in the face of listening adversity! Until next time, listen on my friends!。
