It ’s more likely that none of us start a conversation because it ’s awkward and challenging, or we think it ’s annoying and unnecessary. But the next time you find yourself among strangers, consider that small talk is worth the trouble. Experts say it ’s an invaluable social practice that results in big benefits.Dismissing small talk as unimportant is easy, but we can’t forget that deep relationships wouldn’t even exist if it weren ’t for casual conversation. Small talk is the grease( 润滑剂 )for social communication, says Bernardo Carducci, director of the Shyness Research Institute at Indiana University Southeast. “ Almost every great love story and each big business dealbegins with small talk, ” he explains. “ The key to successful small talk is learning how toconnect with others, not just communicate with them. ”In a 2014 study, Elizabeth Dunn, associate professor of psychology at UBC, invited people on their way into a coffee shop. One group was asked to seek out an interaction( 互动 )with its waiter;the other, to speak only when necessary. The results showed that those who chatted with their server reported significantly higher positive feelings and a better coffee shopexperience. “It ’s not that talking to the waiter is better than talking to your husband, ”says Dunn. “ But interactions with peripheral( 边缘的 )members of our social network matter forour well-being also. ”Dunn believes that people who reach out to strangers feel a significantly greater senseof belonging, a bond with others. Carducci believes developing such a sense of belonging starts with small talk.“ Small talk is the basis of good manners,” he says.28.What phenomenon is described in the first paragraph?A.Addiction to smartphones.B.Inappropriate behaviours in public places.C.Absence of communication between strangers.D.Impatience with slow service.29.What is important for successful small talk according to Carducci?A.Showing good manners.B.Relating to other people.C.Focusing on a topic.D.Making business deals.30.What does the coffee-shop study suggest about small talk?A.It improves family relationships.B.It raises people’s confidence.C.It matters as much as a formal talk.D.It makes people feel good.31.What is the best title for the text?A.Conversation CountsB.Ways of Making Small TalkC.Benefits of Small TalkD.Uncomfortable SilenceD(2017 课标全国Ⅰ ,D)A build-it-yourself solar still(蒸馏器) is one of the best ways to obtain drinking waterin areas where the liquid is not readily available. Developed by two doctors in the U.S.Department of Agriculture, it’s an excellent water collector. Unfortunately, you must carrythe necessary equipment with you, since it’s all but impossible to find natural subs titutes. The only components required, though, are a 5'× 5' sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube, and a container—perhaps just a drinking cup—to catch the water. These pieces can be folded into a neat little pack and fastened on your belt.To construct a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet acrossand three feet deep. Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher’sproductivity. Place your cup in the deepest part of the hole. Then lay the tube in place sothat one end rests all the way in the cup and the rest of the line runs up—and out—the side of the hole.Next, cover the hole with the plastic sheet, securing the edges of the plastic with dirtand weighting the sheet’s center dow n with a rock. The plastic should now form a cone(圆锥体 ) with 45-degree-angled sides. The low point of the sheet must be centered directly over, and no more than three inches above, the cup.The solar still works by creating a greenhouse under the plastic.Ground water evaporates(蒸发 ) and collects on the sheet until small drops of water form, run down the material, and falloff into the cup. When the container is full, you can suck the refreshment out through thetube, and won ’t have to break down the still ev ery time you need a drink.32.What do we know about the solar still equipment from the first paragraph?A.It ’s delicate.B.It ’s expensive.C.It ’s complex.D.It ’s portable.33.What does the underlined phrase“the water catcher” in paragraph 2 refer to?A.The tube.B.The still.C.The hole.D.The cup.34.What is the last step of constructing a working solar still?A.Dig a hole of a certain size.B.Put the cup in place.C.Weight the sheet’s center down.D.Cover the hole with the plastic sheet.35.When a solar still works, drops of water come into the cup from.A.the plastic tubeB.outside the holeC.the open airD.beneath the sheet第二节 ( 共 5 小题 ; 每小题 2 分 , 满分 10 分)(2018 课标全国Ⅱ )根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

I just have rotten luck,” he wailed (哀叹), for the rest of the ship he had made began to melt too.“This can’t be just a case of bad luck,” I said, looking around for something that could have caused the destruction.“Something must have happened,” I said.Lucky’s eyes widened.“You think someone did this on purpose?”I shrugged.“Maybe.It makes more sense than bad luck.”Lucky peered around the room.“Hey,” he whispered.“That kid never left the room for the snack break.Maybe he smashed my Mayflower!”I frowned.“I don’t know, Lucky. He doesn’t really seem the type.”“Haven’t you heard the saying ‘Looks_can_be_deceiving’?” Lucky said, his voice rising.“He probably broke my ship while everyone was g one!”I stared at the ruined Mayflower and shook my head.“It doesn’t look broken, though. It looks more ... disintegrated (使分解).Lucky, don’t jump to any ...”“I’m telling on that kid!” Lucky interrupted. He charged off, his face as red as cranberry sauce.“... conclusions,” I said. With a sigh, I turned to the shipwreck and placed the melting mainsail back in its original spot.I held it there, thinking, until my fingers turned as cold as the ice.“Yeowch!” I said, dropping the mainsail and sticking my frozen fingers into my mouth. It was in that instant that the puzzle was solved.语篇解读:每年,作者和他的小伙伴Lucky都会去参加少儿冰雕展,今年也不例外。

B.New Territories.C.Lantau Island. D.Outlying Islands.22.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A.New Territories has towns with a large population.B.Kowloon has many expensive hotels and a shopping district.C.Lantau Island has most of the islands surrounding Hong Kong Island.D.Hong Kong Island has the highest skyscraper of Hong Kong.23.Where can this article probably be found?A.A story book. B.A news report.C.A travel guide. D.A science magazine.BMy husband and I used to think we had all we had ever wanted.A beautiful house, three healthy children and one more on the way,two cars,a couple of four-wheelers for entertainment—We really had them all and we loved them. Then, the market turned and my husband’s job at a construction company was gone. The company was closing down forever. We both started looking for jobs right away, but there weren’t any to be found. With each passing day we were getting increasingly worried and we continued to work together in order to pull our family through. The more we pulled together, the closer we got.I felt feelings of admiration for my husband that I hadn’t felt for years. That’s why it was so hard for me to watch him blame himself for our present situation.I continually asked him to stop but he seemed to want to punish himself for not having a job. Finally, one afternoon I pulled him aside and said,“We have four healthy children and each other. That’s what’s important. That makes you a rich man.”“But what if we lose the house? They will hate me—you’ll hate me,” he replied.I smiled at him and put my hands on both sides of his face to make him look me in the eye.“No matter where we live I will be happy—as long as I have you,”I smiled again as I realized that I wasn’t just saying that.In all the struggling together I had found that deep love for him that I had on the day we said “I do”.I could see his shoulders and neck relaxed. He held me close and we were able to talk and plan and dream together in a way that we hadn’t for quite some time.It was a turning point for us as a couple and a family. We are still struggling for our better life, but I consider us well-off because we have something that money can’t buy and no one can take away from us.24.We know from the story that .A.they both found good jobs at lastB.her husband was out of work for his not working hardC.both of them felt anxious about their unemploymentD.they didn’t love each other any longer after they got married25.By saying “The more we pulled together, the closer we got.”,the wife means . A.her husband worked harder for being closerB.they had closer affection as they struggled togetherC.their house was closer to the company than beforeD.they were closer to another employment as time went by26.What is their present life like?A.Hard but warm.B.Wealthy but annoying.C.Hard and disturbing.D.Comfortable and admiring.27.Which of the following might be the best title for the text?A.Better Life Comes B.Hard Time GoesC.We Have It All D.We Lose It AllCStudents should be able to show what they know. Many folks take this as a self-evident truth. But I think it demands closer examination.Possessing a skill or piece of knowledge is not the same thing as being able to show it.This is why many smart young people hate school.Understanding, figuring out,and getting a handle on a piece of knowledge is really exciting, but having to prove to somebody else that you understand is a big fat pain in the neck.Finding proof of student learning is a huge part of a teacher’s job,and whether it is done poorly or not makes all the difference in that teacher’s effectiveness. There is a huge difference between “How do I figure out if this student understands” and “How do I make this student prove to me he gets it”. The first is a valuable approach;the second is the first step on the road toward wasting everybody’s time. And there’s the problem. If we start with the assumption that a student who knows must be able to show his knowledge to our satisfaction,we will be traveling down the wrong road. The more we demand that students prove to us that they know the stuff, the more we will design artificial tasks that demand a set of skills and knowledge entirely different from the skills and knowledge we really want to measure. As a classroom teacher,I have to remember that the burden is on me to find a way to see what my students know;the burden is not on them to put on whatever trained monkey show I design for my own ease and convenience. It may not be the worst thing ever to say “Students should be able to show what they know.”But I think it’s far more useful to say,“Teachers should be able to discover what students know.”28.What does the underlined part in the second paragraph mean?A.Very dangerous. B.Very annoying.C.Very difficult. D.Very frequent.29.According to the third paragraph,a teacher should have the ability to . A.discover whether his students knowB.avoid wasting the precious time in classC.apply various approaches while teachingD.give students the chance to prove themselves30.What does the author think of the artificial tasks designed to test students’ learning? A.They should be limited in number.B.They are a huge burden on teachers.C.They should mainly focus on effectiveness.D.They slide away from their original purpose.31.What is the main idea of the passage?A.Students should be able to show what they know.B.There are many ways to find proof of student learning.C.Teachers should be able to discover what students know.D.There should be better understanding between teachers and students.DResearchers studied the responses of the biggest living animals on the planet to stimulated mid-frequency military sonar(声呐),which is used by military to detect submarines.By studying 17 blue whales, which feed on large groups of krill(磷虾) in the ocean, the scientists found the giant sea animals would cut short dives for food after a sonar “ping”.The animals also tried to avoid areas where the sonar had been used for some time afterwards. They found that the whales stopped feeding for more than an hour after the sonar, resulting in a loss of around 1,000kg of krill for the animals. The researchers say their findings disagree with the idea that military sonar has no influence on blue whales and other related species of whale.A second study by the same researchers also showed that military sonar caused another species of whale, the Cuvier’s beaked whale,to stop feeding and swim away from the sound.Dr Brandon Southhall, from the Long Marine Laboratory at the University of California who led the project, said,“These findings help us to understand risks to these animals from humansound and inform timely protection and management decisions.”The scientists argue that the influence of “active”military sonar on blue whales must be considered in environmental assessments before military tests. They said they hoped the US Navy, which funded the work, would use the findings to search for ways of reducing the influence of sonar on whale species.Dr Stacy DeRuiter, from the University of St Andrews, who also took part in the studies, said,“While military tests have been said to be linked to whale strandings(搁浅),we don’t really understand the chain of events that lead to that. The number of strandings also does not match the number of military tests and sonar events,so the Navy wants to understand this more.”32.What did the new studies find about whales?A.They were forced to leave their habitats.B.They were starving because of military sonar.C.They would stop feeding for some time because of military sonar.D.They would find new feeding areas once hearing sonar.33.What is the researchers’ attitude towards the influence of military sonar on whales? A.Worried. B.Helpless.C.Shocked. D.Puzzled.34.According to Dr Stacy DeRuiter,.A.military tests in the sea should be stoppedB.military sonar leads to the death of many whalesC.the US Navy should take action to protect whalesD.further study should be done to find out why whales were stranded35.Where does the text probably come from?A.A book review. B.A science fiction.C.A science report. D.An official document.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

2019年高考英语阅读理解专项练习(名师押题预测+实战训练,建议下载练习)二十一、Wealth starts with a goal saving a dollar at a time. Call it the piggy bank strategy(策略). There are lessons in that time-honored coin-saving container.Any huge task seems easier when reduced to baby steps. I f you wished to climb a 12,000-foot mountain, and could do it a day at a time, you would only have to climb 33 feet daily to reach the top in a year. If you want to take a really nice trip in 10 years for a special occasion, to collect the $15,000 cost, you have to save $3.93 a day. If you drop that into a piggy bank and then once a year put $1,434 in a savings account at 1% interest rate after-tax, you will have your trip money. When I was a child, my parents gave me a piggy bank to teach me that, if I wanted something, I should save money to buy it. We associate piggy banks with children, but in many countries, the little containers are also popular with adults. Europeans see a piggy bank as a sign of good fortune and wealth. Around the world, many believe a gift of a piggy bank on New Year’s Day brings good luck and financial success. Ah, but you have to put something in it.Why is a pig used as a symbol of saving? Why not an elephant bank, which is bigger and holds more coins? In the Middle Ages, before modern banking and credit instruments, people saved money at home, a few coins at a time dropped into a jar or dish. Potters(制陶工) made these inexpensive containers from an orange-colored clay(黏土) called “pygg,” and folks saved coins in pygg jars. Th e Middle English word for pig was “pigge”. While the Saxons pronounced pygg, referring to the clay, as “pug”, eventually the two words changed into the same pronunciation, sounding the “i” as in pig or piggy. As the word became less associated with the orange clay and more with the animal, a clever potter fashioned a pygg jar in the shape of a pig, delighting children and adults. The piggy bank was born.Originally you had to break the bank to get to the money, bringing in a sense of seriousness into savings. While piggy banks teach children the wisdom of saving, adults often need torelearn childhood lessons. Think about the things in life that require large amounts of money--- college education, weddings, cars, medical care, starting a business, buying a home, and fun stuff like great trips. So when you have money, take off the top 10%, put it aside, save and invest wisely.41. What is the piggy bank strategy?A. Paying 1% income tax at a time.B. Setting a goal before making a travel plan.C. Aiming high even when doing small things.D. Putting aside a little money regularly for future use.42. Why did the writer’s parents give him a piggy bank as a gift?A. To delight him with the latest fashion.B. To encourage him to climb mountains.C. To help him form the habit of saving.D. To teach him English pronunciation.43. What does then underlined word “something”(Paragraph 3) most probably refer to?A. MoneyB. GiftsC. Financial successD. Good luck44. The piggy ban originally was _________.A. a potter’s instrumentB. a cheap clay containerC. an animal-shaped dishD. a pig-like toy for children45. The last paragraph talks about ________.A. the seriousness of educating childrenB. the enjoyment of taking a great tripC. the importance of managing moneyD. the difficulty of starting a business【考点】考察文化教育类阅读【文章大意】作者在本文中介绍了the piggy bank strategy也就是存钱策略,并介绍了the pggy bank的起源和目的,号召人们都养成储蓄的好习惯。

After all, to run a marathon, you have at run 26.2 miles by foot! Think about it this way: 26. 2 miles is the same as running the length of a football field more than460 times. It takes most people four or five hours to finish.By the age of 30, Lea Tambellini had run more than five marathons and had no plans to stop. She had always been an athlete. When she was in high school, she swam on her school's swim team and ran to stay healthy and active. Her mom and dad ran marathons, and when she was 22, they helped her train for her first marathon.Lea's first marathon took place in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was called "The Flying Pig". "I was very nervous" she said, "but I had my mom there, so that helped. "Running the race was hard, but the hardest part was when she ran past a cookie factory and smelled cookies at mile 18."I just wanted to be done, "she said. "TAL#NBSP I was spent, but my mom kept me going. It was already her 15th marathon."Today, thousands of people run marathons every year. Runners train for months to get ready. But on the weekends she ran long distances-13 miles, 15 miles, and 20 miles!"I don't mind training because I get excited about working toward something. And I love running with a group of friends and working toward the goal together. But it does take a lot of time."Running a marathon is a great achievement. Some kids in our society have almost no time left to themselves, often because their parents are overscheduled themselves, or their parents are so concerned about kids' achievements that the kids are constantly doing some structured activities. Some parents want their kids to constantly be working on their personal portfolios(文件包) so they can get into college, prep school or preschool. But if kids don't have any down time, they'll burn out quickly. You'd be amazed at how much kids mature, learn and improve when they are given time to just be. Kids need to learn what it is like to be bored and how to entertain themselves. They need time to play with all of those presents they just got from the holiday. They need to make mistakes on their own, discover new ways to do things and nurture their interests and talents. This is called learning. In our house, eating, sleeping mostly), and a few chores and schoolwork are fairly structured. There are occasional errands and playdates, appointments and scout meetings. But most days, our kids have several hours in which they choose what to do. We guide them toward positive ways to spend time, but for the most part, they get to choose. I think this is a healthy thing.I won't go so far as to say that parents who overschedule their kids are stealing their kids' childhoods. I'm sure those kids are getting to do some great things that not every other kid gets to do. But the kids are missing out on a vital piece of childhood: running amok (横冲直撞), not necessarily running all over town on their own, but having time that is theirs, that they get to organize and fill. Kids need to learn how to make choices and learn about the bad and good consequences that come along with their choices.(1) Why are the kids constantly doing some structured activities?A. They like structured activities very much.B. Their parents expect them to achieve more.C. Their parents are worried about their safety.D. Structured activities suit children's interests.(2) Which of the following sayings can convey the closest meaning of the underlined sentence in the first paragraph?A. No pains, no gains.B. Look before you leap.C. Honesty is the best policy.D. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.(3) In the writer's opinion, the kids.A. should be guided to learnB. should do some great thingsC. should have time that is theirsD. should be allowed to run all over town(4) The main purpose of the passage is to.A. concern the healthy growth of kidsB. provide evidence of how kids liveC. criticize parents on unwise parentingD. give a lecture on kids' time management3、【来源】 2019年浙江高三上学期高考模拟(C篇)第28~30题7.5分Do we organize our thoughts in different ways because of the culture we belong to? If it is so, how can we describe those differences? The idea of different "cultural thought patterns" was first put forward by an American professor, Robert Kaplan, in the 1960s. He had been looking at the writing style of non-native students at his university in California. He found that the writing style changed systematically, according to the cultural origins of the students. For example, in his opinion, native speakers of English usually went "straight to the point" However, speakers of Semitic languages(such as Arabic and He brew)kept back tracking, and then returned to the point. Speakers of oriental languages (such as Chinese)were likely to approach the topic only little by little, as if they were moving around it in circled. Speakers of Romance languages(such as French and Spanish)were likely to stay away from the point, making it harder for readers to follow. Speakers of slap languages(such as Russian)often included ideas which didn't seem to be connected in any way to the development of the article. This view attracted a lot of attention as soon as it was expressed. People said it was not based on enough evidence at all, and it was TAL#NBSP biased because it was in supports English(which seemed to offer the "most useful" way of presenting the point of view). Russian students, in particular, did not agree with the idea Kaplan had of them. But Kaplan's work at least reminded us that people from different cultural backgrounds do have different ways of presenting ideas, or telling stories, and that, even if these differences are difficult, and perhaps impossible to sort out, just knowing that they exist can help us to understand and appreciate each other better.(1) What is the author' s purpose in writing Paragraph 2?A. To present his own idea.B. To introduce Robert Kaplan.C. To draw readers to the topic.D. To provide examples of the topic.(2) What does the underlined word "biased" in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A. Wrong.B. Usual.C. Direct.D. Humorous.(3) Which of the following is the best title for the text?A. Thinking across culturesB. Skills for speaking wellC. Reading between linesD. aching.I was almost in tears when I turned one last curve and saw something in the distance. It was a house that I recognized.I jumped up and down and laughed out loud.It was still over a mile away but my legs felt like feathers and I hurried back to my house in no time.I walked in with a big smile on my face just in time for dinner.I remembered this recently when I saw a sign that said “All roads lead home”.It is true.In life, all roads,no matter how they twist and turn, can lead us home again. What is important, though,is how we travel them. Are we going to go forth in fear or are we going to go forth in faith? Are we going to make this life a terrible trip or are we going to make this life a joyful journey? The choice is ours.24.Why did the author hardly feel bored when he was young?A.Because he could have fun in nature.B.Because he could watch TV all day.C.Because he had many friends.D.Because he used to explore the old dirt road.25.How did the author feel when he was exploring the dirt road?A.He thought he would be scolded by his parents.B.He felt contradictory in mind.C.He thought he would be trapped in the woods.D.He was unconscious.26.What does “something” probably mean in Paragraph 3?A.Doubt.B.Hope.C.Courage.D.Fear.27.What does the author mainly intend to tell us?A.Always make choices on our own.B.All roads lead home.C.It’s our attitude that matters in our life.D.Every effort is worthwhile.CPollution’s serious effects on the environment have become more obvious in recent years. Most scientists agree that efforts are necessary to protect our environment from further harm.As we know, the construction industry consumes a large quantity of energy and resources and creates a huge amount of pollution. So green buildings are in great need. The environmental benefits of green buildings include the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity (生物多样性),improved air and water quality, less waste flowing into streams and the protection of natural resources.Green buildings can also result in lower operating costs because they typically use less energy and fewer materials and improve indoor air quality, improving the health of people who live there. The process of building green houses includes technical and artistic planning with nature protection in mind.Building designs often reflect the surrounding environment and natural resources and use renewable building materials such as bamboo and straw. In addition, recycled resources found locally are used for green buildings, reducing the cost and air pollution associated with transporting materials long distances.Careful site selection is important to minimize (使减少到最低限度) human effects on the surrounding environment. For example, placing a structure in an area that allows it to take advantage of cool breezes (微风) and sunlight can reduce energy use and expenses.More energy and expenses are needed for larger buildings as well,so it is important to build the small ones.Green roofs are another feature of green houses that reduce energy use and costs. These roofs are partially or completely covered with plants, which helps to keep heating and cooling costs low, prevent water running off and deal with pollutants.Other features of green buildings often include energy and water protection, recycling and waste reduction. In addition, renewable energy sources such as solar power, water power and wind power are used for heatand electricity, which greatly reduces costs and decreases the influence on the environment.28.What can we know about green buildings?A.Producing no waste.B.Only using clean energy.C.Being made of new materials.D.Being environment-friendly.29.What is a green building probably like according to the fifth paragraph?rge.B.Small.C.Green.D.Low.30.What is the purpose of using green roofs?A.To fit the environment.B.To keep warm.C.To collect nature water.D.To reduce costs.31.What is the text mainly about?A.Promoting energy efficiency.B.Environmental benefits.C.Green buildings.D.Ecosystems and biodiversity.D“Clothes Swapping” is an activity which has become increasingly popular among American women. At a clothes swap event the women can give away unwanted clothing and get something different in return.Recently about 300 women went to a clothes swap at a high school in Springfield,Virginia. It was the largest crowd ever for the area’s popular clothing-swapping group.Daphne Steinberg was having a good day.“For anyone who knows Ann Taylor LOFT,Ann Taylor is re ally a good women’s designer and I will totally wear this to work.So I love that, and I love that I can equip myself for work, have a good time in doing it,and not totally bankrupt (使破产)myself.”Sandy Van Dusen likes the idea that clothes are finding new homes instead of being thrown away.“Because it helps to keep the Earth green. There’s no point in my opinion in continuing to buy new clothes when we can reuse what are already here.Give them a new home —let somebody else love what you used to love and no longer love.”Kim Pratt organized the clothes swap event in Springfield. She also organized a money-raising activity for the high school’s debate team.It is one of several ways that her group gives to charitable causes.Another is by donating all of the “unswapped”clothing to shelters for victims of domestic violence.“I started doing this four years ago,and we’ve been doing it for four years, getting bigger and bigger each time we have a swap.”She used the social media website to help publicize the events. The website has helped her group grow from 30 members to 1,300.Ms.Pratt says most of the members respect the clothing swap rules. But she says competition for desirable fashion can be strong.“We have to tell people sometimes not to hover (徘徊) over the new people coming in with their clothing. As they put it out, some people tend to grab the stuff right out of their hands and it becomes like afree-for-all.We try to avoid that as much as possible.”32.Women can at a clothes swap.A.exchange unwanted clothing for something differentB.buy whatever clothing they likeC.have a social gathering and make friendsD.make some money by giving away unwanted clothing33.We can learn from what Daphne Steinberg said that .A.she had been to a clothes swap for the first timeB.she experienced the largest clothes swap ever in the areaC.she got some clothes she liked at the clothes swapD.she saved much more money than she had expected34.What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?A.What Kim Pratt did with the unswapped clothing.B.How Kim Pratt started the clothes swap event.C.What Kim Pratt did to help people in need.D.How Kim Pratt raised money to help charitable causes.35.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that .A.clothes swaps are often out of control in the endB.inappropriate behavior at clothes swaps needs to be controlledC.clothes swapping is becoming increasingly popular with American womenD.more clothes swap events need to be 2019年高考英语阅读理解真题汇编(名师精选全国真题+详细解析答案,值得下载打印练习)AIn 1812, the year Charles Dickens was born, there were 66 novels published in Britain. People had been writing novels for a century — most experts date the first novel to Robinson Crusoe in 1719 —but nobody wanted to do it professionally. The steam powered printing press was still in its early stages; the literacy (识字) rate in England was under 50%.Many works of fiction appeared without the names of the authors, often with something like “By a lady.” Novels, for the most part, were looked upon as silly, immoral or just plain bad.In 1870, when Dickens died, the world mourned him as its first professional writer and publisher, famous and beloved, who had led an explosion in both the publication of novels and their readership and whose characters — from Oliver Twist to Tiny Tim — were held up as moral touchstones.Today Dickens’ greatness is unchallenged.Removing him from the pantheon (名人堂) of English literature would make about as much sense as the Louvre selling off the Mona Lisa. How did Dickens get to the top?For all the feelings readers attach to stories, literature is a numbers game, and the test of time is extremely difficult to pass. Some 60,000 novels were published during the Victorian age, from 1837 to 1901;today a casual reader might be able to name a half dozen of them. It’s partly true that Dickens’ style of writing attracted audiences from all walks of life. It’s partly that his writings rode a wave of social, political and scientific progress. But it’s a lso that he rewrote the culture of literature and put himself at the center. No one will ever know what mix of talent, ambition, energy and luck made Dickens such a distinguished writer. But as the 200th anniversary of his birth approaches, it is possible — and important for our own culture — to understand how he made himself a lasting one.语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。

2019年高考英语阅读理解模拟试题10篇(名师精选真题实战训练+详细解题过程,值得下载练习)[一]Many of us love July because it’s the month when nature’s berries and stone fruits are in abundance. These colourful and sweet jewels from British Columbia’s fields are little powerhouses of nutritional protection.Of the common berries, strawberries are highest in vitamin C, although, because of their seeds, raspberries contain a little more protein (蛋白质),iron and zinc (not that fruits have much protein).Blueberries are particularly high in antioxidants (抗氧化物质).The yellow and orange stone fruits such as peaches are high in the carotenoids we turn into vitamin A and which are antioxidants. As for cherries (樱桃),they are so delicious who cares? However, they are rich in vitamin C.When combined with berries or slices of other fruits, frozen bananas make an excellent base for thick, cooling fruit shakes and low fat “ice cream”. For this purpose, select ripe bananas for freezing as they are much sweeter. Remove the skin and place them in plastic bags or containers and freeze. If you like, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice on the bananas will prevent them turning brown. Frozen bananas will last several weeks, depending on their ripeness and the temperature of the freezer. If you have a juicer, you can simply feed in frozen bananas and some berries or sliced fruit. Out comes a “soft-serve” creamy dessert, to be eaten right away. This makes a fun activity for a children’s party; they love feeding the fruit and frozen bananas into the top of the machine and watching the ice cream come out below.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。

this sort of "favor war",where one of us would do something for the other, such as shoveling (铲)their driveway or helping them build a shed, and next time the other would try to top it with another favor.Yesterday morning there was maybe 2 or 3 feet of snow on the ground and I remembered he shoveled my driveway for me last snowfall. So I took out my shovel and took care of both our sidewalks and driveways because it was my turn to do a favor back.It took a while but I finished and got into my car for work. What I didn't realize was that Orlando had to work that day too.Fast forward to this morning I got a knock on my door.It was him.He immediately shook my hand and informed me that because I shoveled his driveway and sidewalk for him,he was able to get to work earlier. As soon as he started his shift,a call came through that a young boy was in a medical emergency.Luckily he and his partner were only about 2 minutes away, but the next closest ambulance was in 10 minutes. This kid did not have 10 minutes. He barely had 2 minutes.Because my neighbor got to work sooner, the young boy got to live his life. This isn't a humble brag (吹牛).This is to inform others that even the smallest University showed Aussie adults also widely supported the inclusion of technology, coding and artificial intelligence subjects to student curriculums to prepare them for future jobs.Co﹣author Professor Neil Selwyn, from Monash's new Education Futures think tank, said the survey results of more than 2,000 Australians had taken himself and Dr Deana Leahy by surprise."The life skills﹣I wasn't expecting that at all," he said. Those quizzed were asked to rate the value of a list of subjects already in the curriculum, but were also given an open space to write what they think should be included.Prof.Selwyn said people called for schools to teach financial skills, budgeting, cooking and doing taxes."You could argue that these are things people should be learning themselves,or learning from their families,"Prof.Selwyn said."But we've got to be thinking forward in terms of the skills people will need for jobs and their ways of living."One respondent said schools should introduce a "contemporary life skills" subject:"A compulsory 1﹣hour a week class on skills needed that parents seem continually unable to teach their kids." Suggestions for the class included resume writing, filing tax returns and health claims.Another respondent called for students to be taught "general life skills as unfortunately not enough kids will have parents to actually be bothered to educate them or simply parents don't know themselves".Of the subjects, maths was the highest ranked (75.5 percent),followed closely by English (74.8 percent). And while science was the third highest ranked subject (46.2 percent),it was more strongly supported by those who earned higher wages and were university educated compared to lower income earners.Aspects of school life considered least important were students having fun, learning about things that interested them and being given the opportunity to be creative.(1)Why did the adults suggest adding "life skills" to school curriculums?A.To vary school curriculums.B.To enrich students' school life.C.To prepare students for future work and life.D.To save parents the trouble of educating kids.(2)What did Prof.Selwyn think of the adults' suggestions?A.Reasonable.B.Ridiculous.C.Interesting.D.Impractical.(3)What does Paragraph 3 focus on?A.Differences of school subjects.B.Reasons for the school survey.C.Opinions from the surveyed.D.Investigations of the respondents.(4)What can we know from the text?A.The present curriculums are to adults' taste.B.Contemporary life skills involve resume writing.C.Students' interests have been greatly promoted.D.The parents quizzed think highly of school life14.(8分)If maths is the language of the universe, bees may have just uttered their first words.New research suggests these busybodies of the insect world are capable of addition and subtraction (减法)﹣using colors in the place of plus and minus symbols. In the animal kingdom, the ability to count﹣or at least distinguish between differing quantities﹣isn't unusual:It has been seen in frogs, spiders, and even fish. But solving equations (方程式)using symbols is rare,so far only achieved by famously brainy animals such as chimpanzees and African grey parrots.Building on previous research that says the social insects can count to four and understand the concept of zero, researchers wanted to test the limits of what their tiny brains can do.Scientists trained 14 bees to link the colors blue and yellow to addition and subtraction, respectively. They placed the bees at the entrance of a Y﹣shaped maze (迷宫),where they were shown several shapes in either yellow or blue.If the shapes were blue, bees got areward if they went to the end of the maze with one more blue shape (the other end had one less blue shape);if the shapes were yellow, they got a reward if they went to the end of the maze with one less yellow shape. The testing worked the same way:Bees that "subtracted" one shape when they saw yellow,or "added" one shape when they saw blue were considered to have aced the test. The bees got the right answer 63% to 72% of the time, depending on the type of equation and the direction of the right answer﹣much better than random guesses would allow﹣the researchers report today in Science Advances.Though the results came from just 14 bees, researchers say the advance is exciting. If a brain about 20,000 times smaller than ours can perform maths using symbols,it could pave the way to novel approaches in artificial intelligence (AI)and machine learning.Just don't ask the bees to do your homework anytime soon.(1)Why do the scientists conduct the research?A.To teach them maths.B.To test the power of tiny brains.C.To explain the meaning of colors.D.To get access to machine learning.(2)What does the underlined word "aced" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?A.Given up.B.Entered for.C.Got through.D.Checked over.(3)What might the research make contributions to?A.Language acquisition.B.Arithmetic learning.C.Protection of animals.D.Development of AI.(4)What can be the best title for the text?A.Bees "Like" CountingB.Bees "Tell" Colors ApartC.Bees "Perform" Maths Using ShapesD.Bees "Get" Addition and Subtraction第二节(满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余选项.15.(10分)Some people put their bicycles away once they learn how to drive a car.For many people, bicycling is not just an easy way of getting around town but also an exciting sport.(1).One kind of race is the time trial. Each racer leaves the starting line at a different time and heads hard for the finish line. The cyclist who covers the distance in the shortest amount of time wins the race.(2),because the bicycles are spread out and are not likely to run into each other.Another kind of race is more difficult.A few city blocks are closed to traffic. Then all the racers line up in a tight pack and begin racing at the same time.(3).The race requires more than speed. It also requires skillful handling of the bicycle as it runs at full speed around other bicycles. The racer who completes all the laps first is the winner.(4).Racers have to cover anywhere from 35 miles to almost 3,000 miles. The race course may be a straight stretch of road or a long series of roads across the country. The prize goes to the first person who crosses the finish line.Between races cyclists stay in condition by doing exercise that builds their strength so that they can keep riding for long periods of time.(5),they often join bicycling groups and become licensed racers. Then they can enter special races all over the country. If you'rea cyclist, keep practicing. You could become a star.A.As cyclists become more experiencedB.A time trial is a very safe race for beginnersC.Serious cyclists often arrange to take part in racesD.Road races are usually the longest cycling contestsE.Most people will seize possible chances to get around townF.They cover many laps, going around and around the city blocksG.When cyclists Suggestions for the class included resume writing, filing tax returns and health claims.Another respondent called for students to be taught "general life skills as unfortunately not enough kids will have parents to actually be bothered to educate them or simply parents don't know themselves".Of the subjects, maths was the highest ranked (75.5 percent),followed closely byEnglish (74.8 percent). And while science was the third highest ranked subject (46.2 percent),it was more strongly supported by those who earned higher wages and were university educated compared to lower income earners.Aspects of school life considered least important were students having fun, learning about things that interested them and being given the opportunity to be creative.(1)Why did the adults suggest adding "life skills" to school curriculums?CA.To vary school curriculums.B.To enrich students' school life.C.To prepare students for future work and life.D.To save parents the trouble of educating kids.(2)What did Prof.Selwyn think of the adults' suggestions?AA.Reasonable.B.Ridiculous.C.Interesting.D.Impractical.(3)What does Paragraph 3 focus on?CA.Differences of school subjects.B.Reasons for the school survey.C.Opinions from the surveyed.D.Investigations of the respondents.(4)What can we know from the text?BA.The present curriculums are to adults' taste.B.Contemporary life skills involve resume writing.C.Students' interests have been greatly promoted.D.The parents quizzed think highly of school life【分析】略【解答】C A C B【点评】略14.(8分)If maths is the language of the universe, bees may have just uttered their firstwords.New research suggests these busybodies of the insect world are capable of addition and subtraction (减法)﹣using colors in the place of plus and minus symbols. They placed the bees at the entrance of a Y﹣shaped maze (迷宫),where they were shown several shapes in either yellow or blue.If the shapes were blue, bees got a reward if they went to the end of the maze with one more blue shape (the other end had one less blue shape);if the shapes were yellow, they got a reward if they went to the end of the maze with one less yellow shape. If a brain about 20,000 times smaller than ours can perform maths using symbols,it could pave the way to novel approaches in artificial intelligence (AI)and machine learning.Just don't ask the bees to do your homework anytime soon.(1)Why do the scientists conduct the research?BA.To teach them maths.B.To test the power of tiny brains.C.To explain the meaning of colors.D.To get access to machine learning.(2)What does the underlined word "aced" in Paragraph 5 probably mean?C。

A key first step in bettering your evaluation ability is to look carefully at your sources of health information. Reasonable evaluation includes knowing where and how to find relevant information, how to separate fact from opinion, how to recognize poor reasoning, and how to analyze information and the reliability of sources.36Go to the original source .Media reports often simplify the results of medical research. Find out for yourself what a study really reported, and determine whether it was based on good science. Think about the type of study.37Watch for misleading language. 2019年高考英语阅读理解专项突破(名师精选全国真题+详细解析答案,值得下载打印练习)(共3篇,限时20分钟)ABee see, bee do. At least that’s the conclusion of research published earlier this month in the journal PLOS Biology, showing that bumblebees learn to solve problems by watching each other. In the first study of its kind in insects, scientists constructed experiments that challenged bees to pull strings in order to access rewards of nectar (花蜜).The scientists hoped their study would throw light on a bigger picture: how social learning spreads through a population. In the study, Lars Chittka from Queen Mary University of London and his team made artificial flowers and filled them with artificial nectar made of sugar water. They put the flowers under a clear type of plastic and attached a string. Then they added bees. While most of the insects failed to reach the nectar, a few eventually figured out how to access it, by pulling the string. The team discovered that they could greatly increase the success rate of the bees by first placing them inside a transparent (透明的) box where they could observe an experienced bee pull the string. Then, when the boxed bees were released, they often knew what to do and successfully pulled the string to obtain nectar.Next, the researchers added a bee that was experienced in string pulling to each of three new groups that had never seen the experiment before. Within a short time, about half of all those bees were soon pulling the strings. That result suggests the learned behavior could spread from bee to bee, similar to the way cultural ideas spread in other animals, including people. The experiment suggests that social learning may be more widespread in the animal kingdom than people previously thought.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。

BWhen I go to a new place the first thing I like to do is walk around the streets, to exploreand get lost in the city. When I first arrived in Santiago, Chile, and took a walk around the city centre, one of the first things I noticed was how many street dogs there were.On every corner there was a sleeping dog. At every traffic light there was a dog waiting to cross. By every shop there was a dog waiting for food. At first I was nervous as I thought they might be aggressive. However, I have been here for more than a year now and every street dog I have seen has been passive, quiet and friendly. The dogs are accepted and welcomed here in Chile. I have never seen a street dog being mistreated. In fact, they are often given food and water by the public. Some people even make jackets for the dogs or put out beds or doghouses for them to sleep in.However, the dogs do not have an easy life: they are often hungry, cold or injured. The government does not provide much care for these dogs. Some people believe that the situation is getting out of control and that it is unacceptable to have so many dogs on the streets. The dogs can sometimes cause problems such as car accidents if they run into the road. There are about 2.5 million street dogs in Chile and the dog population is growing faster than the human population. Many Chileans think that all the street dogs should be sterilized (使绝育) so that they cannot breed. Others think that people should reduce the dog population by killing them. The future of street dogs is uncertain but for now it looks like they are here to stay, with their population expanding year by year.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。
